Louis J. Hartmangruber, 71, of Wichita Falls, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Christian wake was at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Hampton Vaughan Downtown Funeral Home. Services will be at 9 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Ivor Koch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Hartmangruber was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Electra. He and Jan Wolf were married Aug. 9, 1948, in Electra. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a ranch manager for the ‘77’ Ranch, having worked for them for 32 years. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry of Wichita Falls; two daughters, Janice Hartmangruber of Denver and Sandra Ratliff of Fort Worth; his mother, Josephine Hartmangruber of Iowa Park; four sisters, Lorene Goforth of Wichita Falls, Agnes Hunter of Dallas, Virginia Hilley of Trinity, Texas, and Mary Ann Sokora of Wichita Falls; a brother, James of Iowa Park; and six grandsons.
Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
Wallace Lee Pierce
NOCONA, Texas – Wallace Lee “Wally” Pierce, 70, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in his Nocona home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Starkey Cemetery with the Rev. C.E. Russell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Pierce was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Jolly, Texas. He was a truck driver and a Baptist. He served in the Army in World War II.
Survivors include four sons, Ray of Bowie, Texas, Wallace of Vashti, Texas, Tommy of Ringgold, Texas, and Jack of Montague, Texas; two daughters, Sylvia Hutto of Denton, Texas, and Linda Reynolds of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Nancy Robbins and Joan Winn, both of Bowie, and Pat Alberdine of Muskogee, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 this evening for visitation.
Pauline Terry
HASKELL, Texas – Pauline Terry, 78, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in a Haskell hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Slayton and the Rev. Shane Brue officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Terry was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Upshire County, Texas. She had lived in Haskell for 17 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include five sisters, Lena Mae Patterson of Soul’s Chapel, Texas, Winnie Faye Cox of Tyler, Texas, Louise Cerliano of Longview, Texas, Nathelee Caddell of Haskell and Laura Bell Thompson of Loveland, Colo.; and a brother, Billy Joe Swinney of Haskell.
Dennis Wade Orr
GRAHAM, Texas – Dennis Wade Orr, 81, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in his Graham home.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Pioneer Cemetery with Dr. David Mosser, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Graham, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mr. Orr was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Loving, Texas. He and Jonnie B. Worsham were married Sept. 20, 1934, in Graham. She died May 13, 1994. He was a veteran of the Navy and was a retired owner of Commercial Power Company. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Graham.
Survivors include a daughter, Melinda of Lincoln City, Ore.; two sons, Jerry of Richardson, Texas, and Jimmie of Dallas; a sister, Floyce Moon of Graham; a brother, Dan Ro of Graham; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Graham General Hospice.
Charles H. Naylor
HENRIETTA, Texas – Charles H. Naylor, 87, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in Dallas.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Henrietta. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mr. Naylor was born June 9, 1911, in Palestine, Texas. He and Mary Beth Raines were married Dec. 12, 1936, in Bowie, Texas. She died Sept. 1, 1985. He and Juanita Presson were married March 22, 1986, in Dallas. He attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He worked for 40 years in the oil and gas industry, starting with Magnolia Pipeline. He lived in Burkburnett and Electra before moving to Henrietta. While in Henrietta, he was a member of the City Council and was instrumental in the construction of the first community swimming pool in the area. He was also known for his creation and construction of houseboats on Possum Kingdom Lake. He moved in Wichita Falls in 1961, where he lived for 14 years. Following his retirement from Mobil, he moved to Dallas, where he became a member of Highland Park Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Charlan Beal of San Antonio; a son, Robert of Jericho, Vt.; and five grandchildren.
Virgil Glen Seay
COMANCHE, Okla. – Virgil Glen Seay, 73, of Muskogee, Okla., died Saturday, July 25, 1998, in Comanche.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenhill Cemetery with Carl Herd officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morehead-Goetz Funeral Home.
Mr. Seay was born May 3, 1925, in Muskogee. He and Betty Ann Martin were married June 9, 1950, in Muskogee. She died in February 1998. He was a car and mobile home salesman.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Glen and Virgil Glen Seay II, both of Muskogee, and Danny Ray of Ponca City, Okla.; two daughters, Debbie Brown of Comanche and Saundra; a brother, Kenneth of Muskogee; and 15 grandchildren.
George Thomas
AUGUSTA, Ga. – George Thomas died Monday, July 20, 1998, in his Hephzibah, Ga., home.
Services were at noon Saturday at the Meadowbrook Drive Church of Christ with Brother Maurice Woodard officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Williams Funeral Home in Augusta.
Mr. Thomas was a former resident of Childress, Texas. He retired from the Army as a sergeant first class after 25 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Elnora J.; four daughters, Cynthia Ellis, Elaine Johnson and Brenda Thomas, all of Augusta, and Melody Woodard of Philadelphia; three sons, George Payne, Larry and Stanley, all of Dallas; three sisters, Leola Johnson and Lue Ann Wherry, both of Wichita Falls, and Laurel of Quanah, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ora Blasius Turner
NOCONA, Texas – Ora Blasius Turner, 96, of Ringgold, Texas, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Nocona.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jerry Woods Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Koeppe officiating. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.
Mrs. Turner was born Sept. 9, 1901, in Kaufman County, Texas. She and John Melvin Turner were married Dec. 21, 1919, in Montague County, Texas. He died March 8, 1967. She was a World War II Gold Star Mother and assisted Drs. Carlton, Tyler and Greer in the delivery of 27 babies. She was a homemaker and a charter member of the First Christian Church in Ringgold, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was active in the Home Demonstration Club in the 1930s. A son, Carter Wayne, died in 1943. A son, Woody McClain, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Melvin Lee of Katy, Texas.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 this evening for visitation.

Victor Galvan
ABILENE, Texas – Victor Galvan, 50, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in his Abilene home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Maciel officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mr. Galvan was born July 27, 1947, in Brownfield, Texas. He and Theresa Molina were married Oct. 25, 1969, in Abilene. He graduated from Loraine High School and attended Texas State Technical College and Hardin-Simmons University. He retired from the Coast Guard after a 20-year career and later worked with the Abilene Independent School District as a custodian. He was a member and deacon of Ambler Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David J. of Oakland, Calif.; a daughter, Gennie of Abilene; seven brothers, Carlos of Goose Creek, S.C., Manuel of Wichita Falls, Henry of Glendale, Ariz., Peter of Arkansas, and David and Felix, both of Arlington, Texas; and three sisters, Margaret Quintela and Rita Hernandez, both of Midland, Texas, and Edna of Anchorage, Alaska.
Clara Weaver Biard
HASKELL, Texas – Clara Weaver Biard, 85, died Monday, July 27, 1998, in her Haskell home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Haskell with the Rev. Jim Turner officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Biard was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Haskell County. She and Myron Biard were married June 6, 1920, in Munday, Texas. He died in 1987. She was a graduate of Haskell High School. She and her husband owned and operated Biard’s Cleaners in Haskell for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and was an active member of Alanon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she attended the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at 1300 N. Avenue F in Haskell.
Martha Jane Letterman
Martha Jane Letterman, 79, of Petrolia died Monday, July 27, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Petrolia, Texas, with the Rev. Rick Ergle, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Petrolia Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Letterman was born May 6, 1919, in Milesburg, Penn. She was a retired cook and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. She had lived in Petrolia for 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Lee Martin of Petrolia and Robert P. of Milesburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Letterman will lie in state at 602 Walnut in Petrolia on Thursday.
Claudia Henigan
Claudia Henigan, 87, died Monday, July 27, 1998, in a Wichita Falls care center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with R.L. Castle, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young & Company Funeral Home.
Mrs. Henigan was born March 19, 1911, in Kaufman, Texas. She did domestic work in a private home and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She had lived in Wichita Falls for 56 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky Polk of Wichita Falls and Bernice Henigan of Hearne, Texas; a son, Courtland of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Viewing will be from 1-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family will be at 1624 Sunny Side.
Charlie W. Chastain
Charlie W. Chastain, 59, died Friday, July 24, 1998, in his Wichita Falls home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with the Rev. Ivor Koch, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The State Bar Association will hold a memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday at 30th District Court, Wichita County Court House.
Mr. Chastain was born July 23, 1939, in Bushnell, Fla. He was an attorney in Wichita Falls and was an instructor at Vernon Regional Junior College for 20 years. He served as a captain in the Air Force as an accounting and finance officer. He had lived in Wichita Falls since 1970.
Survivors include a son, Allen of Wichita Falls; and a daughter, Anita of Birmingham, Ala.
Elva Leroy McBride
FREDERICK, Okla. – Elva Leroy McBride, 69, died Monday, July 27, 1998, in his Frederick home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gish Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Baker, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. McBride was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Frederick. He and Mary Imogene Barnard were married July 30, 1949, in Frederick. He grew up in the Hollister, Okla., and Deep Red areas. He was a carpenter and worked in the Tillman County, Okla., area all his life. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ronnie Leroy, Danny Leon and Joe Michael, all of Frederick; two daughters, Patsy Jean McBride Stultz of Frederick and Tammy Sue McBride Sevilla of Yukon, Okla.; a brother, Bobby Gene of Denton, Texas; a sister, Zella Fidelia Walker of Sacramento, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Maj. Tony Mark Caton
ARLINGTON, Va. – Maj. Tony Mark Caton, 36, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, in his Boeblingen, Germany, home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Arlington Funeral Home with Ada Caton officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Arlington National Cemetery.
Maj. Caton was born Aug. 21, 1961, in Quantico, Va. He was earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Midwestern State University in 1983. He completed airborne and signal officer basic school in 1983, ranger school in 1984, jumpmaster school in 1985, and advanced signal officer school in 1987. He earned his commission from the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at MSU in 1982 and entered active duty in 1983. He was assigned to 2/131st Field Artillery Battalion, 49th Armor Division Artillery, Wichita Falls, from 1982-83. Following this assignment, he attended Signal Officer Basic Course at Fort Gordon, Ga. After graduation in 1983, he was assigned to the HSB 1/319th Field Artillery, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C., as communication platoon leader. During his tour with the 82nd Airborne, he also served as service platoon leader, battalion communications-electronic staff officer, platoon leader and executive officer. He next served as company commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 26th Signal Battalion, Heilbronn, Germany, from 1987-90. He was later assigned as Battalion S-2. During this period, he served as the officer in charge of the brigade port operation, both as an advanced element to receive units into Southwest Asia and redeploy units back to Germany during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. From 1991-93 he was assigned to the HHB 212th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill, Okla. Returning to Germany, he was assigned to the Headquarters 7th Special Operations Command in Boeblingen from 1993-95. From 1995-96 he served in the 52nd Signal Battalion, Patch Barracks, Germany, as Battalion S-3. He was reassigned to Defense Information Systems Agency-Europe, Stuttgart, Germany, in 1996 as branch chief of the Regional Operations and Support Center. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Survivors include three sons, Nicholas, David and Daniel of Melrose, Fla.; his mother and stepfather, Chris and Tom Rasile of Wichita Falls; a sister, Sherry Larew of Bethany, Okla.; a brother, Chuck of Wichita Falls; and his grandmother, Marion Caton of Nokesville, Va.
Louise Yarbrough
IOWA PARK – Louise Yarbrough, 85, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Iowa Park.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Faith Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Ammons, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Yarbrough was born April 3, 1913, in Texas. She and Roy Yarbrough were married May 22, 1928, in Red Spring, Texas. He died in 1964. She was a retired seamstress for Levi Strauss and a member of Faith Baptist Church. She had lived in Iowa Park for 62 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Matthews of Iowa Park; a sister, Rena Loftin of California; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Richard Atwood
SEYMOUR, Texas – Richard Atwood, 64, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in a Seymour hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church with A.B. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Atwood was born Aug. 19, 1933, in Front Royal, Va. He and Eva Hamilton were married in 1978 in Seymour. He served in Korea in the Army. He moved to Seymour in 1955 and worked as a truck driver for the Permian Corporation for 20 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7871 and the Downtown Men’s Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick of College Station, Texas; a daughter, Candace Vickers of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Ruby Mitchell of Strausburg, Va., and Barbara Riddle of Charleston, S.C.; two stepsons, Terry Hamilton and Eldon Roy Hamilton, both of Rockwall, Texas; a stepdaughter, Becky Trimuar of Royce City, Texas; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7 this evening for visitation.

Rev. Walter C. Harting
HOUSTON – The Rev. Walter C. Harting, 73, died Sunday, July 26, 1998.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home in Houston with Dr. Gerald Kieschnick and Dr. Mark Behring officiating. Burial will be in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
The Rev. Harting was the former pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Lois D. Herron of Huffman, Texas; a brother, the Rev. Paul W. Harting; two sisters, Marie Noll and Esther Niedner; and two grandchildren.
