Paul J. Petcoff Jr.
BURKBURNETT - Paul J. Petcoff Jr., 25, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, in San Angelo, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. He will lie in state at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett today and Wednesday.
Mr. Petcoff was born Nov. 10, 1972, in Greenville, Pa. He graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1991 and from Midwestern State University in 1994. He was a radiology technician at Community Medical Clinic in San Angelo. He moved to San Angelo from Burkburnett five years ago. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Burkburnett.
Survivors include a son, Kinley John of Burkburnett; his mother, Margaret Petcoff Platt of Burkburnett; and two sisters, Marlene of Wichita Falls and Patricia of New Orleans, La.
The body will lie in state today and Wednesday at the funeral home.
Paul Young Elliott Jr.
Paul Young Elliott Jr., 67, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in Houston.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Episcopal Elementary School with Dr. Michael Daves, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Van Alstyne, Texas, officiating. His ashes are to be scattered in the River Ganges in India. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Elliott was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Vernon, Texas. He attended school in Vernon and graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton and received a master's degree from Midwestern State University. He served four years in the Fourth Army Band. He was a retired baker and was a professional musician in the Wichita Falls area for more than 35 years. A son, Aaron, died Nov. 27, 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen of Houston; four sons, Paul Wilson of Corinth, Texas, Eric of Fort Worth, and Nathan and Larkin, both of Houston; and nine grandchildren.
Evelyn Esther Hoskin
Evelyn Esther Evans Hoskin, 86, of Wichita Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998.
Memorial services will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Allen officiating. Funeral services were held Saturday at Norton's Funeral Home in Wellington, Ohio, with the Rev. William Meyers officiating. Burial was in the Brighton, Ohio, Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hoskin was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Rimer, Ohio. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Work Basket, Women's Circle Four and the BOP Sunday School Class. Her husband, Stanley T. Hoskin, died in November 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane of Wichita Falls; two sons, David E. of Louisville, Ky., and Stanley T. of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Cora Huffman of Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Margaret Meyers of Pataskala, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Mildred Calkins
WALTERS, Okla. - Mildred Wagner Calkins, 80, of Walters died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, in Iowa Park.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Walters with Max Pyron officiating. Burial will be in the Temple, Okla., Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.
Mrs. Calkins was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Terral, Okla. She and Elmer Nixon Calkins were married Nov. 3, 1940. He died July 1, 1994. She grew up in Temple, where she graduated from high school. She had lived in Walters since 1954. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Walters, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was also a member of the Eastern Star. A son, Elmo, died July 4, 1964.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Calkins Grieb of Wichita Falls; a son, Alan of Walters; a sister, Oneta Clingman of Temple; and two brothers, Alton Wagner of Sterling, Okla., and Raymon Wagner of Lawton, Okla.
Berniece Shamburger
GRAHAM, Texas - Berniece Ann Wood Shamburger, 89, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Graham with the Rev. James C. Hill, pastor, and the Rev. Edgar Jones of Graham officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shamburger was born Jan. 7, 1909, in Wieland, Texas. She and Glen Shamburger were married Sept. 14, 1930, in Durant, Okla. He died Oct. 18, 1985. She received her master's degree from East Texas State University. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse and taught for 30 years. She was a Past President of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, and was a lifetime member of the Parent Teachers Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Henry of Wichita Falls; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 this evening for visitation.
Leslie A. ‘Les‘ Golson
BOWIE, Texas – Leslie A. ‘Les‘ Golson, 89, of Decatur, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in a Decatur hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie with the Rev. Dick Hennings, minister of music at First Baptist Church in Bowie, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Golson was born Dec. 9, 1908, in Loco, Okla. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. He retired in 1972 after 30 years of service as a district gauger for Standard Oil Company. He helped build Platt National Park. He had been a resident of Bowie for 35 years before moving to Decatur three years ago. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Jackson of Decatur and Leslie Jo Rollman of Newport, Wash.; a son, L.V. of Columbia, Miss.; a brother, Lee of Prescott, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Leroy Barnard
GRAHAM, Texas – Leroy Barnard, 65, of Graham died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy McNeil, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Military graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park.
Mr. Barnard was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Justin, Texas. He and Mary Jean Evans were married Feb. 10, 1966, in Fort Worth. He enlisted in the Navy in January 1952 in Fort Worth. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in July 1977 as a chief petty officer. He received his honorable discharge in Corpus Christi. He moved to Wichita Falls after his retirement and was employed by Seimens Company until moving to Lake Graham in 1991. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Wayne of Wichita Falls and Michael Lynn of Dallas; a daughter, Kristi Lea Barnard of Wichita Falls; a brother, Jimmy H. of Mansfield, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Edward James Furman
Edward James Furman, 85, of Wichita Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Paul Cunningham, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Furman was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Kaylor, Penn. He and Barbara Wynkoop were married June 12, 1945, in Geneva, Ohio. He had lived in Wichita Falls since 1944 when he moved from Altamonte Spring, Fla. He retired from Hubbard Construction Company of Orlando, Fla., in 1978 after 15 years of service. He was a member of Fain Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jean Perkins of Wichita Falls and Patricia Hastings of Papillion, Neb.; two sons, Robert ‘Bob’ of New Freedom, Penn., and Richard of Louisville, Ken.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Milam Travis Martin
GRAHAM, Texas – Milam Travis Martin, 81, of Graham died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in a local care center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Brooks, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Graham, and the Rev. Carl Gates, pastor of Grace Chapel in Graham, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Amity Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas.
Mr. Milam was born June 9, 1917, in Comanche County, Texas. He and Lela Lester Ingram were married Nov. 29, 1942, in El Paso. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the First Cavalry during World War II. He was a retired school custodian for the Graham Independent School District. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jeanie Boren of Lubbock, Texas, Linda Mosley and Sue Wood both of Graham; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
William Bruce Priddy
ARCHER CITY, Texas – William Bruce Priddy, 73, of Archer City died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in an Olney, Texas, hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Archer City Cemetery with Mike Priddy, minister of Church of Christ in Petrolia, Texas, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.
Mr. Priddy was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Bellevue, Texas. He and Roberta Chambles were married Jan. 6, 1954, in Haskell, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army and during the European Theatre. He worked as a salesman and had been employed by Coca Cola Bottling Company and Currin Candy Company in Wichita Falls. He retired in 1980 as the Food Director of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch of Amarillo, Texas. He moved to Archer City in 1980.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Flick of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Matthew Allen Moore
BOWIE, Texas – Matthew Allen Moore, 28, of Plano, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in Plano.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Bowie with the Rev. Jim Keith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore was born Sept. 26, 1969, in Dallas. He graduated from Goldburg High School after attending Bowie schools for 11 years. He attended Texas Tech University. He was a longtime resident of Bowie before moving to Plano four months ago. He was a restaurant manager and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Jim and Wanda Moore of Bowie; and a sister, Ann Tobin of Dallas.

Bennie Lou Crisp
VERNON, Texas -- Bennie Lou Crisp, 66, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Plano, Texas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Crisp and Jimmy Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park.
Mrs. Crisp was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Foard County, Texas. She and Norman Crisp were married Feb. 22, 1953, in Yuma, Ariz. She grew up in Rayland, Texas, and San Diego. She was a graduate of Lockett High School and attended Abilene Christian University. She was a Protestant and a home mortgage loan official with Bankers Life Insurance Company.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jan Crisp Hammel of Columbia, S.C.; two sons, Michael Norman of Los Angeles and Jon Charles of Plano; her parents, Ben and Lucille Hopkins of Vernon; a sister, Rita Raney of Vernon; a brother, Jimmy Hopkins of Enterprise, Ala.; and one granddaughter.

Clifford Lee Pettit
Clifford Lee Pettit, 66, of Wichita Falls died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in a local hospital.
No services will be held.
Mr. Pettit was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Ripley County, Ind. He was an aircraft mechanic with the Air Force. He had been a resident of Wichita Falls since 1965. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd, No. 501 of Enid, Okla., and Maskat Shrine.
Survivors include two sons, Mark of Wichita Falls and Christopher of Ingleside, Texas; a brother, Lloyd of Crawford, Ind.; a sister, Virginia Hicks of Crawford; and five grandchildren.

Dale Anthony Wilson
Dale Anthony Wilson, 53, of Wichita Falls died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in Wichita Falls.

He had lived in Wichita Falls for seven years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Fort Collins, Colo.

Walter Wayne Spray
BOWIE, Texas – Walter Wayne Spray, 68, of Bowie died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in Bowie.

Mr. Spray was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Matador, Texas. He and Wanda Fisher were married May 21, 1950, in Matador, Texas. She died May 19, 1986. He had been a captain at Braniff International Airlines for 25 years and chief pilot at Airlift International. He was a deputy for Montague County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bowie, the Bowie Rotary Club, and the Airline Pilots Association.
Survivors include two sons, David of Irving, Texas, and Don of Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Tracey King of Buford, Ga.; a brother, Joe of Bowie, Texas; a sister, Nelda Watson of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.
Joe Vernon Smith
CROWELL, Texas – Joe Vernon Smith, 62, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in his Crowell residence.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Crowell Cemetery with the Rev. Richard White, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 5, 1935, in Vernon, Texas. He and Doris Huskey were married Dec. 14, 1954, in Thalia, Texas. He was a graduate of Crowell High School. He was a former employee of D & T Foodway, the State of Texas, Foard County and the City of Crowell. He was a longtime engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation and an oil pumper. He was a lifetime resident of Crowell and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Christi Mayes of Quanah, Texas; two sons, Joe Mark of Crowell and Rickey of Dallas; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Vestil Stamps
CHILDRESS, Texas - Vestil Stamps, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, in Texas.

Mr. Stamps was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Childress. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, Grady of Childress; two nephews, Larry of Las Cruces, N.M., and Gerry of Clovis, N.M.; and one niece, Wanda Ward of Wellington, Texas.
Elizabeth Ann Roach
GRAHAM, Texas - Elizabeth Ann Roach, 79, of Graham died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Pioneer Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Finfrock, pastor of Oak Street Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roach was born Oct. 13, 1918, in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. She and Erskine Edward Roach were married May 9, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas. He died June 19, 1998. She was a homemaker and a retired dental hygienist. She returned to Graham in 1974 from Borneo, Indonesia.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Zimmermann of Comfort, Texas, and Janie Atwell of Fredericksburg, Texas; a son, Bob of Graham; and five grandchildren.
Travis Brians
VERNON, Texas - Travis Brians, 39, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, in San Francisco.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Eastview Cemetery in Vernon with Robert Prince of First Baptist Church of Vernon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Mr. Brians was born June 22, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas. He was a lifetime resident of Lubbock and a member of Kelview Baptist Church in Midland, Texas.

Genevie Stout
GRAHAM, Texas - Genevie Stout, 74, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Throckmorton, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday in Throckmorton Cemetery with the Rev. Edgar Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stout was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Throckmorton. Her husband, J.W. Stout, died in 1997. She had lived in Graham since 1967. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Holifield of Marble Falls, Texas; a son, Gene W. of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Mozella Welker of Azle, Texas, Brooxie Philipp of Morgan, Texas, and Jolene Mitchell of Throckmorton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
William 'Jack' Lovelace
RYAN, Okla. - William Houston 'Jack' Lovelace, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Terral Cemetery with Don Durham officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grantham-Worley Funeral Home.
Mr. Lovelace was born Aug. 4, 1909, in Ringling, Okla. He and Cora Agnus White were married Nov. 2, 1930. He was a retired carpenter and a plumber.
Survivors include four daughters, Zelda Inez Bingham of Montague, Texas, Dorothy Irene Clingenpeel of Terrel, Okla., Mary Nell Thomas of Comanche, Okla., and Cecilia Juanita Harnois of Rhode Island; two sons, Noah Pascal Lovelace of Flower Mound, Texas, and Houston Junior Lovelace of Wichita Falls; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
