Virginia E. Nunley
Virginia E. Nunley, 84, of Wichita Falls died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in a local retirement center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Ms. Nunley was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Holliday, Texas. She was a retired office manager with Kidwell General Motors Corporation. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Acuff of Houston; and a niece, Mary Ann Camp of Houston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan.
Elbert Carter
WAURIKA, Okla. - Elbert Homer Carter, 86, of Waurika died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Waurika with the Rev. Tim Bowen and the Rev. Tommy Billings officiating. Burial will be in Waurika Perpetual Care Cemetery under the direction of Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Carter was born Sept. 30, 1911, in Waurika. He and Doris Hooper were married Feb. 11, 1933, in Wilson, Okla. He spent his childhood on the family farm and attended Waurika Public Schools. He opened Carter Appliance Store in 1958. He retired in 1983. He served on the Board of Directors of Cotton Electric Co-op from 1951 until 1984 and served one term as president. He was a member of Waurika Lions Club for more than 30 years and he was an honorary member of Jefferson County 4-H Club. He was a deacon and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Waurika.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Gayle Ritchie of Wichita Falls, Sharon Duncan of San Antonio and Dee Ann Himebaugh of Waurika; five sons, Jimmy, Roger and Jay, all of Norman, Okla., Kenneth of Iowa Park and Gary of Waurika; a sister, Lois Hunt of Lawton, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Nancy Willingham
Nancy Martha Mueller Willingham, 65, of Wichita Falls died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church Chapel with the Rev. Kipp Wolfe, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Willingham was born July 15, 1933, in New York. She and Carlton Willingham were married June 1, 1974, in Houston. She worked as a retired nurse for Baptist Hospital in Beamont for 20 years. She also worked for the Wichita Falls State Hospital. She had lived in Wichita Falls since 1974 when she moved from Graham, Texas. She was a member of First Christian Church of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Hilda Mueller of Wichita Falls; a son, Rick Gorskie of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; two daughters, Robin Recko of San Antonio and Holly Wall of Plano, Texas; two step-sons, Russell Willingham of Giddings, Texas, and Steve Willingham of Arlington, Texas; a step-daughter, Lisa Patterson of Manor, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Raymond Gillen
Raymond Gillen, 80, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in his Wichita Falls residence.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Crestview Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Daniel, pastor of Sunnyside Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Gillen was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Augusta, Kan. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He was a retired machinist with Wilson Manufacturing. He retired from Dana Clutch after 36 years. He was a Baptist and had lived in Wichita Falls for 68 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Wichita Falls; three sons, Larry and Keith both of Wichita Falls and Raymond A. of Norman, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
Neva McPhail Savage
Neva McPhail Savage, 71, of Wichita Falls died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in a local nursing center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Cemetery Pavilion in Iowa Park with the Rev. Harvey McMurry, pastor of City View Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Savage was born June 1, 1927, in Wichita Falls. She was a retired executive with the hotel business. She was a member of City View Baptist Church and a former member of Doe’s Drove No. 154 of the Elk’s Lodge. She was a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Savage of Wichita Falls; a son, Earl Jones of Scotland, Texas; two sisters, Wanda Flacco of Palmdale, Calif., and Katie Smith of Glendale, Calif.; and one grandson.

Earle L. Denny
IOWA PARK – Earle L. Denny, 92, of Iowa Park died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in Iowa Park.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Flowers, of Brownfield, Texas, and the Rev. Steve Beckwith, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Mr. Denny was born Oct. 26, 1905, in Iowa Park. He and Jean Mitchell were married June 1, 1923, in Iowa Park. She died Feb. 5, 1998. He attended Iowa Park schools. He was an apprentice baker in the Iowa Park Bakery and later moved to Amarillo, Texas, and Clovis, N.M., where he continued in the bakery business. He returned to Iowa Park in 1928 and worked for Humble Pipeline Co., and in 1936 he began a career with American National Insurance Company. He purchased the Iowa Park Insurance Agency which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1962. He served in the Navy Sea Bees in the Pacific area from 1942-1945. He was a 68-year member of Iowa Park Masonic Lodge No. 713 AF and AM, a past master of Scottish Rite, and a member of First Baptist Church of Iowa Park. He was a member of Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, City Alderman, Director of State National Bank, and the volunteer fire department. He played baseball with the Iowa Park Buffaloes. A daughter, Bettye Jean Kelso, died in 1963.
Survivors include a daughter, Billye F. Newhardt of Midland, Texas; a sister, Marie Callon of Iowa Park; and two grandchildren.

Keevil Lewis Brown
Keevil Lewis Brown, 90, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be Monday in Enterprise Community Cemetery with the Rev. Carol Phillips officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mr. Brown was born July 4, 1908, in Grayson County, Texas. He moved to Wichita Falls in 1968 from Mobil Regional Headquarters in Oklahoma City to serve as superintendent of Mobil Oil Production in the Wichita Falls area. He retired in 1973. He was involved in Wichita Falls Elks Lodge, Trinity Church and the Mobile Retirees Club.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Fugler Brown; a daughter, Bonnie Arnold of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a son, Michael of Sydney, Australia; two sisters, Lois McGuire of Dallas and Beatrice Terry of Sherman, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Barbara Cameron
Barbara Cameron, of Wichita Falls died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Cameron was born in Malvern, Ark. She and Paul E. Cameron, Sr. were married Aug. 22, 1931, in Tyler, Texas. She moved from Tyler in 1937. She was a member of Wichita Falls Country Club, Junior-Senior Forum, a Hospital Volunteer and a member of the Junior Standard Study Club. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Paul E. Cameron, Jr. of Wichita Falls; a sister, Sue Mitchell Kinder of Wichita Falls; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ead B. Flores
Ead B. Flores, 87, of Wichita Falls died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in a local care center.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Hampton Vaughan Downtown Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Hector Medina officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Flores was born Aug. 10, 1911, in Rotan, Texas. He worked as a landscaper at Web Landscaping in Wichita Falls for 10 years. He retired in 1973.
Survivors include four sons Lupe, Mike and Freddie all of Wichita Falls and Ralph of Grand Prairie, Texas; two daughters, Susie Mendez of Irving, Texas, and Angelita Perez of Wichita Falls; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn ‘Nettie’ Prendergast
WAURIKA, Okla. – Evelyn ‘Nettie’ Phariss Prendergast, 77, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, in a Waurika hospital after a sudden illness.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Waurika Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Prendergast was born March 13, 1921, in Chandler, Ariz. She and her family later moved to Addington, Okla., and she graduated from Addington High School in 1939. She and Edward John Prendergast were married in 1959 in Wichita Falls. She and her husband made their home in Sugden, Okla. She was an artist and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Sharon Quonie Lindstrom and Dianne Walker both of Cedar City, Utah, and Rhonda Delaine Bryant of Malibu, Calif.; and several grandchildren.

Edward Arthur Jones
DUNCAN, Okla. – Edward Arthur Jones, 82, of Duncan died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in a Duncan hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Duncan Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Thompson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones was born July 17, 1916, in Duncan. He and Joan Mansell were married July 24, 1946, in Carlsbad, N.M. She died May 1, 1987. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army’s 90th Division. He received the Purple Heart for injuries received during the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a brother, I.B. Jones of Wichita Falls.
Edith M. Eddy
CHILDRESS, Texas – Edith M. Haralson Eddy, 87, of Childress died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Childress.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Roy Keith, of First Christian Church of Paducah, Texas, and the Rev. Jim McCurley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Eddy was born Nov. 25, 1910, in Childress. She and James Eddy were married Jan. 22, 1933. He died April 20, 1987. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Childress.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Bratton of Paducah; and two granddaughters.
Edith Donaldson
COMANCHE, Texas – Edith Loleita Donaldson, 84, of Tye, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in an Iowa Park nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Comanche Funeral Home with Earnest Young officiating. Burial will be in Stag Creek Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas.
Mrs. Donaldson was born April 9, 1914, in McCullough County, Texas. She and Oren Clifton Donaldson were married in 1936 in Comanche County. He died in January 1973. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a cook for the Knox County Hospital. A son, Vernon, died in 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Bill of Tye and Larry of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Wanda of Iowa Park; two brothers, Derrell Franklin of San Antonio and Merle Franklin of Hale Center, Texas; a sister, Ann Jones of Brownwood, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Jewel Hancock
BOWIE, Texas – Jewel McManus Hancock, 90, of Bowie died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1998, in a Bowie hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Bowie with the Rev. Bill Cleveland, pastor of First Baptist Church of Alvord, Texas, and the Rev. Ben Wiseman, a Bowie Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hancock was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Newport, Texas. She and Emmit Hancock were married in 1928. He died in 1979. She grew up in Newport. She moved to Bowie in 1939 where she was in the restaurant business for several years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Bowie, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. A daughter, Greta, died in 1960.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Hutson of Bowie, June Meece of Wichita Falls and Jean Crow of Hurst, Texas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Marieja Byram Gartside
TIPTON, Oklahoma -- Marieja Byram Gartside, 85, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in Frederick, Okla.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tipton First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Corbin, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gish Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gartside was born March 17, 1913, in Dixie, Okla. She and Stanley Gartside where married Dec. 27, 1933, in Chickasha, Okla. He died in March 1968. She lived with her family in south central Oklahoma near the towns of Ringling and Healton and graduated from high school in Maude, Okla. She worked in Duncan, Okla., where she met her husband. She moved to Kansas City, Kan., and then to Clovis, N.M., and later to Burkburnett. They moved back to Frederick around 1940 where they lived until her husband’s service in the Army. She worked at the Frederick Air Base in the commissary from 1942-1945 and did volunteer work at the service men’s club serving dinners and organizing recreation. After 1945, she briefly lived in Frederick. She moved to Tipton in 1947, where she lived on the Gartside farm on Otter Creek. She moved to Freeport, Texas, in 1953, where she worked as a seamstress and sales lady at a local dress shop. She also tailored men’s clothing independently. She lived in Freeport until 1972. She continued working part-time as a sales person until her retirement at 63 and returned to Tipton.
Survivors include daughter, Tonya Gay Farrow of Tipton; a son, Stanley B. Gartside Jr. of Spring, Texas; three sisters, Josephine Taylor, of Albany, Texas, and Clydine Holland and Ola Crabb, both of Sulphur, Okla.; two brothers, Buster ‘Buck’ Byram of Midland, Texas, and Stuart Byram of Ardmore, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jenny Louise Cecil
MESQUITE, Texas -- Jenny Louise Cecil, 35, of Balch Springs, Texas died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home in Mesquite. Burial will be in the Laurel Oaks Cemetery.
Mrs. Cecil was born May 4, 1963. She and Dennis Cecil were married Jan 1, 1995. She graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1982 and worked with her parents at Stanley’s Barbecue.
Survivors include her husband; a stepson, Steven Cecil; a sister, Alice Staley; her parents, Stanley and Joan Hill; and grandmother, Lorene Ward.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be today from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Hugh T. Glidewell
GRAHAM, Texas—Hugh T. Glidewell, 81, of Graham died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998 in Wichita Falls.
Services were private. Arrangements were under the direction of McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home.
Mr. Glidewell was born Sept. 2, 1917 in Young County, Texas. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II . He was a rancher in Paducah, Texas, and returned to Graham in 1992.
Survivors include a sister, Mary E. Phillips of Graham.
Barbara Hubbs Grigsby
DENVER, Colo. - Barbara Routh Grigsby, 71, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at her Denver residence.
Memorial services were at Mount St. Evans in Denver under the direction of A Choice Cremation & Funeral services at Lakewood, Colorado.
Miss Grigsby was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Wichita Falls. She attended Carrigan Elementery, Regan Junior High and Wichita Falls High School. She worked for the Methodist church as secretary and had been a resident of Denver for 26 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Carter of Denver; one son, Bobby Caswell of New Mexico; one brother, John Fred Hubbs of Junction, Texas; mother, Mildred Hubbs of Wichita Falls.
