Charles H. Gray
HENRIETTA, Texas – Charles H. Gray, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in a Henrietta Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Bellevue, Texas, with the Rev. Lewis Sleeth, pastor, the Rev. Valerie Mireb, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Henrietta, and the Rev. Bill LaBarr, pastor of Lake Cities, Texas, First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Bellevue Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mr. Gray was born August 23, 1920, in Bowie, Texas. He and Maxine Wynn were married April 4, 1948, in Bowie. He moved to Clay County in 1948. He was a graduate of Bowie High School. He attended Howard Payne University, North Texas Agricultural College. He was a member of the 2nd air commando group of the Army Air Forces in the India, Burma, and China Theatres during World War II. He has been in the ranching business and has served on many committees and organizations related to agriculture. He was presented with an award for his participation in an area of agriculture from Gov. Briscoe and he was a charter member of the Clay County Junior Livestock Association. He represented Bellevue/Vashti in the North Texas Rehab Cattle Auction Drive, served on the board of directors for JAC, as chairman of the Clay County Memorial Hospital Board and was trustee of Bethania Regional Health Care Center Foundation Board for a number of years. He was a delegate for the Wichita Falls District on Finance and served on the administrative board in Dallas for the North Texas Conference of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the Pioneer Association Nine-man Board as treasurer for five years and was president of the Clay County Pioneer Association in 1996.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cheryl Beth Klein of Henrietta; two sisters, Rose Carter of Arlington, Texas, and Martha Willett of Keller, Texas; a brother, Paul Gray of Collinsville, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Davis Funeral Home.

Robert Hugh Sterling
Robert Hugh Sterling, 39, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. today at Hampton Vaughan Downtown Chapel with Larry Suttle officiating.
Mr. Sterling was born Nov. 29, 1958, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had lived in Wichita Falls for two-and-a-half months.
Survivors include his mother, Faye Wilson of Wichita Falls; his stepfather, Virgil Wilson of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Cindy Matt of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and JoAnn Moulin of Hoover, Ala.; and his grandmothers, Dorothy Leflar of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, and Agnes Maserk of Regina.
Memorials may be made to Texoma Christian Care Center and 10th and Broad Church of Christ.

Eunice Fields Pickard
Eunice Fields Pickard, 91, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in her Wichita Falls residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hampton-Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Jim Zug officiating. Burial will be in the Archer City, Texas, Cemetery.
Mrs. Pickard was born Jan. 22, 1907, in Knox County, Texas. She and Bernard Pickard were married Jan. 28, 1952, in Archer City. He died Oct. 15, 1994. She retired in 1983 after 40 years of working as a department store clerk and was a member of First Baptist Church of Archer City. She had lived in Wichita Falls for four years.
Survivors include a son, Marvin of Archer City; two daughters, Joyce Crosslin of Wichita Falls and Bonnie McElhannon of Rhome, Texas; a brother, Jerry Fields of Holliday, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Archer City Cemetery fund.

Bess Etta Smith
Bess Etta Smith, 92, of Wichita Falls died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in a Wichita Falls care center.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Crestview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 28, 1905, in Smithville, Tenn. Her husband, Harry Smith, died in August 1965. She was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and had lived in Wichita Falls for 74 years. Her son, Harry Freeman Smith, died in September 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Jeanette Sampson of Las Vegas; a sister, Georgia Samarjian of Wichita Falls; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Texoma Christian Care Center.

Vivian A. Cozby
NOCONA, Texas – Vivian A. Haralson Cozby, 90, of Nocona died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in a Nocona nursing home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Nocona with the Rev. Walter Haynie and the Rev. Roland Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cozby was born Oct. 24, 1907, in Montague County, Texas. She and Robert Tom Cozby were married June 22, 1930, in Montague County. He died May 14, 1984. She was a church organist and a piano teacher for many years and was a Baptist and a homemaker.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Howard Wesley Bates
Howard Wesley Bates, 75, of Abilene, Texas, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998 in a local hospital.
Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Bates was born Oct. 30, 1922, Coryell County, Texas. He was a retired trucker with Merchants Motor Lines.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee Scheffe of Windthorst; a son, Kelly Bates of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Elva May Jackson of Winters, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Katherine Wiist Wolfe
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Katherine Wiist Wolfe, 76, of North Little Rock, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998.
Recognition services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Roller-Drummond Southwest Chapel, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, with the Rev. Tom Mullins officiating.
Mrs. Wolfe was born June 26, 1922, in Henrietta, Texas. She was raised on her family's Clay County farm and graduated from Henrietta High School in 1940. She traveled extensively while married to G. R. Wolfe, Air Force master sergeant, finally settling in Arkansas. She was a retired seamstress with more than 20 years of service to Kellwood Company, a Little Rock garment manufacturer. Survivors include a son, Harvey Wolfe of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Kathy Parks of Little Rock; six sisters, Elsie Himes of Bushnell, Fla., Alma Marshall of Texline, Texas, Anna Brunaugh of Bunker Hill, Ill., Freda Musick of Amarillo, Texas, Lydia Raub of Waxahachie, Texas, and Rose Butler of Denison, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Edith M. Nichols
VERNON, Texas - Edith M. Nichols, 83, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Eastview Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Fox of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nichols was born Nov. 24, 1914, in Gainesville, Texas. She and Wallace E. Nichols were married Aug. 1, 1936, in Denton, Texas. He died in November 1981. She had been a resident of Vernon since 1945 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Gene, Bobby, Wayne and Tommy, all of Vernon; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 2909 Martindale in Vernon.

Charles Dean Price
OKLAHOMA CITY - Charles "Chuck" Dean Price, 26, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at Bill Eisenhour N.E. Funeral Home. Burial was in Arlington Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home.
Mr. Price was born Feb. 26, 1972, in Wichita Falls. He and Tami Hale were married July 17, 1998, in Oklahoma City. He served in the Army reserve from 1994 to 1998.
Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Keldon Whittington of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Shannon Owen of Midwest, Okla., Jessica Price of Wichita Falls; three brothers, Brad Kimsey of Yukon, Okla., Tim Price, and Cody Price both of Wichita Falls; his parents, Cheryl and Bill Trendle and Dean and Cathy Price; and his grandparents, James and Bonnie Robinson and Ms. E.E. Price.

Mary Grace Elkins
CHILDRESS, Texas - Mary Grace Elkins, 88, of Childress died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in Caldwell, Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Childress Church of Christ with Doyle Wells of Lake Charles, La., and Bill Mayes of Childress officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Elkins was born March 5, 1910, in Comanche, Okla. She and Lonnie Elkins were married March 26, 1926, in Childress. She was a homemaker and a licensed vocational nurse working for Childress General Hospital. She was a member of Childress Church of Christ for 72 years, the Burlington Club and Childress Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Lon Ray of Caldwell; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Billy W. Armstrong
OLNEY, Texas -- Billy W. Armstrong, 65, of Wichita Falls died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in an Olney hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita Falls with the Rev. L.K. Lawley, pastor of Church of God Church in Borger, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home and Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
Mr. Armstrong was born Nov. 20, 1932, in Henrietta, Texas. He and Marta Va Revell were married Nov. 8, 1958, in Wichita Falls. He was employed with Sears for more than 27 years as a division manager before retiring. He was an Airman Second Class and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in the United States, England and New Foundland. He was a mechanic on medium bombers with the 51st Bomber Squadron Strategic Air Command. He received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Billy Dale of Iowa Park and John of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Marsha Smith of Wichita Falls; a brother W.B. of Bloomfield, N.M.; a sister, Evaleen Johnson of Wichita Falls; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Kathryn Marie Sundeen
Kathryn 'Kate' Marie Morgan Sundeen, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in her Wichita Falls residence.
Memorial services were at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lunn's Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Russell Detwiler of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating.
Mrs. Sundeen was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Jamestown, N.Y. She and Paul William Sundeen were married in 1935 in Jamestown. He died in April 1989. She was a secretary for United Way in Jamestown. She was retired. She was a member of Eastern Star Mount Sinai in Jamestown. She moved to Bradenton, Fla., from Jamestown in 1970. She moved to Wichita Falls in 1994 from Bradenton. She was a Lutheran.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Johnson of Wichita Falls; a son, Donald of Dallas; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Mary Jo Andrews
Mary Jo Blackwell Andrews, 72, of Wichita Falls died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Duane Perkinsons of Central Baptist in Burkburnett officiating.
Mrs. Andrews was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Holliday, Texas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Carlton L. Jr. and Tony Ray, both of Wichita Falls; a sister, Minnie Dodd of Bowie, Texas; and one grandson.

Ross Harold Corlett Jr.
Ross Harold Corlett Jr., 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Isaac Butterworth, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mr. Corlett was born June 16, 1920, in Wichita Falls. He and Doris Rose Dobbs were married April 17, 1946, in Wichita Falls. She died November 1985. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1941 with a degree in civil engineering. He joined the 53rd Signal Battalion in the Army in 1941 as a second lieutenant. He became General Douglas MacArthur's personal cryptographic officer, serving in this position throughout World War II. He returned to Wichita Falls in 1945. He joined what is now Corlett, Probst and Boyd Inc. Surveying Corporation in 1948. He retired in 1983. He was a member of Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, Wichita Club, Republican Party, and the Texas A&M Association of Former Students. He received the 'Aggie' of the Year Award in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Power and Cathy McBroom, both of Wichita Falls; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today.

Edythe Hazel Smyer
Edythe Hazel Smyer, 98, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in a local care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Zug, pastor of Highland Heights Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Smyer was born Feb. 8, 1900, in what is now Okarche, Okla. Her husband, Houston C. Symer, died in 1974. She was a Wichita Falls resident for 45 years. She began work in 1918 as a Pioneer Switchboard operator in Chickasha, Okla. She was a member of Highland Heights Christian Church and was an active member in Royal Neighbors of America Fraternal Society.
Survivors include one brother, Kenneth Barnes of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Highland Heights Christian Church in Wichita Falls.

Patricia Kay Miller
Patricia Kay Miller, 52, of Wichita Falls died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home Chapel in Burkburnett with the Rev. Dr. Tim Russell, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Burkburnett, officiating. Burial will be in Burkburnett Cemetery.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 12, 1946, in Wichita Falls. She owned a ceramics business. She was a volunteer at the Red Door Senior Citizens and was on the Hotter-N-Hell steering committee. She was a lifetime area resident.
Survivors include her husband, Philip of Wichita Falls; two daughters, Laura of San Diego and Michele of Wichita Falls; a brother, Richard Reeves of Austin; her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Reeves of Wichita Falls; and two grandsons.

Maidie Perkins
CHILDRESS, Texas - Maidie Perkins, 98, of Childress died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in Childress.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim McCurley, pastor, and Kerry Wood, minister of music, officiating. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Perkins was born March 12, 1900, in Cottle County, Texas. She and Clyde Perkins were married Dec. 12, 1920, in Paducah, Texas. He died Jan. 25, 1985. She was a postal clerk and taught school at Fairview and Tennessee Valley. She attended West Texas College and was a member of Kirkland Home Demonstration Club. She had been a member of First Baptist Church. She had lived in Childress since 1962. Survivors include three daughters, Maidelle Mitchell of Denver City, Texas, Shirley Alexander of Weatherford, Texas, and Mary Frances Lovelass of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two sons, Clyde Jr. of Childress and James of Oak Leaf, Texas; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Davis W. Vaughan
CHILDRESS, Texas - Davis 'Dave' W. Vaughan, 92, of Houston died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in Houston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Don McFarland, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church of Childress, officiating. Burial will be in Kirkland Cemetery.
Mr. Vaughan was born Nov. 4, 1905, in Farmersville, Texas. He and Myra Meece were married July 28, 1928, in Childress. She died Jan. 8, 1990. He had lived in Houston for the past eight years. He changed well charts for Skelly Oil Company.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Rowley of Houston; a sister, Nellie Royal of Childress, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Leo Edward Henley
Leo Edward Henley, 63, of Wichita Falls died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Mike Blaylock, minister of education of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mr. Henley was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Maysville, Okla. He and Wanda Ruth Henley were married Dec. 31, 1961, in Wichita Falls. She died Nov. 22, 1997. He was in the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was a driver for the Wichita Falls Fire Department for 30 years and owned his own mechanic shop.
Survivors include his mother, Lillie Trammel of Sentinel, Okla.; two daughters, Tonie Henley and Carol Mountain, both of Wichita Falls; three brothers, Doug Trammel of Sentinel, Okla., Robert of Kingston, Okla., and Jim Trammel of Sealey, Texas; and four grandsons.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.

Nancy Freeman Elliot
Nancy Freeman Elliot, 66, of Wichita Falls died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Elliot was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Montague County, Texas. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Leugemors of Wichita Falls and Merry of Lancaster, Texas; two sons, Edward "Red" and Ricky, both of Wichita Falls; a sister, Bobbie Jo Pinson of Garland, Texas; a brother, Robert; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Faith Mission.
