Hoyt S. 'Pete' Slatton
Hoyt S. "Pete" Slatton, 89, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at a local assisted living center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls with Dr. Russell Dilday officiating. Entombment will be in Crestview Memorial Mausoleum under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Slatton was born Jan. 18, 1909, at Scranton, Texas. His wife, Ellen Hooker, died Jan. 25, 1990. He was a funeral director and Realtor in Dallas before retiring to Wichita Falls. He lived in Wichita Falls for 20 years. He attended Cisco, Texas, Junior College and appeared in the Little Rose Bowl with the Cisco High School Lobos. He was active in church, professional and community organizations, participated in the choir and other chorale groups as a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Cliff and served as an officer with the Dallas Association of Realtors. He helped launch the First Baptist Church's senior Choir, the local support group for the families of Alzheimer's patients and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 237. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include a son Dr. James H. Slatton of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Linda Slatton Clark of Fort Worth; three sisters, Eunice Penn and Mary Snead, both of Eastland, Texas, and Catherine McCray of Cisco; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Greater Wichita Falls Alzheimer's Association, 801 Burnett St., Wichita Falls, Texas 76301; or the American Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Albina Kauffman
Albina T. "Bea" O'Kruhlik Kauffman, 77, of Wichita Falls died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at a local hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Lunn's Colonial Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Aidan Donlan, chaplain of United Regional Health Care Center 11th Street Campus, officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M., at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. Arrangements under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Kauffman was born Oct. 13, 1920, at Flatonia, Texas. She and Herb Kauffman were married Aug. 6, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas. He died in 1993. She was a longtime member of the Bethania Auxiliary, an auxiliary member of the Texas Retired Officers Association, the Alter Society St. Bernadette's Circle of Our Lady Queen of Peace, the S&B club of Wichita Falls, the Grief Support Groupand the Heritage Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace. She taught silk flower classes at Midwestern State University through the extension office.
Survivors include three sons, Herbert Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., Larry of Omaha, Neb., and James of Houston; a brother, Loddie O'Kruhlik of Flatonia; three sisters, Martha Clisbee of Kaufman County, Texas, and Lillian Drozd and Molly Peters, both of Houston; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to United Regional Healthcare Foundation, Tree of Life, 1600 Eight St., Wichita Falls, Texas 76301.

Don Quentin Scherler
WALTERS, Okla. - Don Quentin Scherler, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Walters with the Rev. Tony Nickel officiating. Burial will be in Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.
Mr. Scherler was born Feb. 18, 1928, in the Ahpeotone, Okla., community. He and Wanda Thomas were married Sept. 8, 1948. He graduated from Ahpeotone High School and Cameron College. He was a farmer and a member of the Walters Baptist Church for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Don Scherler of Oklahoma City and Mack David of Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Pat Tidwell of Duncan and Phyllis Prichard of Bethany, Okla.; four brothers, Mark Scherler of Faxon, Okla., Kent Scherler and Wes Scherler, both of Walters, and Jack Hudman of Chattanooga, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Walters Cemetery, Walters First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Lawton.

Mary Lucille Wright
HENRIETTA, Texas � Mary Lucille Wright, 85, died in Lancaster, Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Joy, Texas, Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wright was born June 2, 1913, in Jack County, Texas. She and M.W. Merrell Wright were married Nov. 21, 1934, in Henrietta. He died Oct. 21, 1990. She lived in Dallas for the past 50 years, was retired from the Sweetheart Cup Company and was a member of the Bernal Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Doyle Wright of Dallas and Billy Merrell Wright of Houston; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Terry Deatherage
Terry Deatherage, 55, of Wichita Falls died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Floral Heights Methodist Church with the Rev. Merwin Turner, associate minister, and the Rev. Mike Rucker, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mr. Deatherage was born June 4, 1943, in Wichita Falls. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School, served in the Navy, was an A.O.B. certified Optometrist/F.N.A.O. He founded Cycle Part Distributing and Unlimited. He was a professional motorcycle racer until 1975 then turned to stock car racing until 1993. He was the Texas State TT Motorcycle Champion from 1958 to 1961. He ran the USAC stock car circuit in 1981, managed Duffens Wholesale Optical in Houston from 1983 to 1986. In 1986, he purchased Lile and Prock Optical and also West Optical and started Deatherage Certified Opticians. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship and was a member of the Gold Coat Ambassadors. He received many awards from the State Optical Society.
Survivors include a son, Greg Deatherage of Wichita Falls; two daughters, Mishelle Shires of Lakeside City, Texas, and Shana Gonzales of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Tim Deatherage of Wichita Falls and Anthony Deatherage of Dallas; his mother, Mary Frances Deatherage of Wichita Falls; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and Shriners Burn Institute.

Ola Lee Pollock
NOCONA, Texas - Ola Lee Pollock, 87, of Cottonwood, Ariz., died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, in Cottonwood.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ with Jerome Savage and Rusty West officiating. Burial will be in Starkey Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pollock was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Montague County, Texas. She and Roy Pollock were married April 5, 1930, in Waurika, Okla. He died Nov. 23, 1996. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Adrian of Cottonwood; two daughters, Elaine Pollock of Cottonwood and Donola Hudson of Rimrock, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Clyde Thomas
VERNON, Texas - Clyde Thomas, 77, of Vernon died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eastview Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Gilliland, pastor of Second Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Community Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Enloe, Texas. He and Viola Callicoat were married Dec. 8, 1978. She died March 10, 1997. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a farmer and a Baptist.
Survivors include three brothers, Lewis Thomas of Fort Worth, Claude Thomas of Madison, Wis., and Herman Thomas of Vernon; four sisters, Virginia Chism, Lillian Hopkins, Aline Haynes and Louise Woodard, all of Vernon.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Blanche Clark Hageman
PADUCAH, Texas - Blanche Clark Hageman, 89, of Childress died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at a Childress nursing home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ of Paducah with Dr. Mike Henderson of Childress and Bill Mayes, minister of the Childress Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hageman was born July 16, 1909, in San Augustine, Texas. She and A.C. Hageman were married Dec. 25, 1927, in Paducah. He died Sept. 15, 1991. She came to Cottle County in the 1920s, and lived in Arizona and Lubbock, Texas, for many years before returning to Paducah in 1971. She moved to Childress in 1986, was a retired medical lab technician and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Charles Hageman of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Alice Ann Cheek of Childress; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Ruby Lee Everett
THROCKMORTON, Texas - Ruby Lee Everett, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at a local hospital.
Services are at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Throckmorton with the Rev. Cliff Lester officiating and the Rev. Troy Culpepper assisting. Burial will be in Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Merriman-Archer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Everett was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Throckmorton County. She and James Ardon Everett were married Dec. 23, 1928, in Throckmorton. She had worked as a nurse's aid and a cook at the Throckmorton County Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Throckmorton and was a Baptist. Her son J.L Everett died Aug. 20, 1990, and her son Jackie Everett died Aug. 27, 1997.
Survivors include her husband; a sister, Edna Earl Ash of Throckmorton; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Velma P. Cassidy
FREDERICK, Okla. - Velma P. Cassidy, 90, of Tillman County, Okla., died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998 in a Lawton hospital.
Services are at 11 a.m. today at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Wyatt officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cassidy was born March 15, 1908, in Davidson, Okla. She and Ed Cassidy were married March 17, 1927, in Tipton, Okla. He died in December 1986. She graduated from Davidson High School, was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Bridge Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Lewis of Frederick; a son, Paul of Davidson; a sister, Lillian Myers of Frederick; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Hilda Pruett
WAURIKA, Okla. - Hilda Pruett, 72, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at her home in Ryan.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Grantham-Worley Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Schwenn, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Willis Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pruett was born June 30, 1926, in Alabama. She moved from Alabama to Oklahoma in 1931 with her family and settled in Ryan. She grew up in Ryan and attended Ryan Public Schools. She worked as a nurse for over 15 years. She retired in 1988 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ryan.
Survivors include a son, Sammy Brown of Ryan; two daughters, Carol Hamel and Charlotte Gallager, both of Ryan; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Roberta Sue Smith
FREDERICK, Okla. - Roberta Sue Smith, 37, of Roosevelt, Okla., died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at a Lawton hospital.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder, Okla., with the Rev. Gail Morris officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born May 16, 1961, in Florida. She lived in the Grandfield, Okla. area in the early 1980�s until moving to the Roosevelt area. She was a Certified Medication Aid having worked in nursing homes in Hobart, Cordell and Sentinel. A son, Larry Stephen Jr., died Oct. 10, 1982 and a daughter, Stephanie Kaylene Smith, died Aug. 25, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Richard Stephen of Roosevelt; a daughter, Kissa Monique Thompson of Oklahoma City; and a grandchild.

Ruby Kate Vandergriff
GORMAN, Texas - Ruby Kate Vandergriff, 97, of Gorman died Firday, Oct. 9, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Restheaven Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas, with the Rev. James Price officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vandergriff was born June 21, 1901, in Georgetown, Texas. She and Dailey Vandergriff were married in 1922 in Clarendon, Texas. He died in 1977. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She was a longtime resident of Lubbock before moving to Cisco, Texas, and then to Gorman.
Survivors include one sister, Nannie Margaret Richardson of Wichita Falls.

Hazel Owens
HENRIETTA, Texas - Hazel Owens, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, in a Bowie, Texas, hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Crestview Mausoleum in Wichita Falls. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mrs. Owens was born Aug. 7, 1919. Her first husband, James Broussard, died June 14, 1995. Her second husband, George Owens, died May 19, 1997. She was a seamstress and was a Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, James Broussard of Bellevue, Texas, and Robert Broussard of Henrietta; a brother, Andrus Duhon of Maurice, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Jane Chaloupka
SAINT JO, Texas - Jane Elizabeth Williams Chaloupka, 66, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, in her Azle, Texas, residence.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Perryman Cemetery in Montague County, Texas, with C.E. Cole officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chaloupka was born June 2, 1932, in Forestburg, Texas. She and Joe Leroy Chaloupka were married in November 1972 in Fort Worth. She was a quality control inspector. She was originally from Forestburg and had lived in Azle for about 25 years.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Christina Horton of Fort Worth and Lisa Webster of Springtown, Texas; three sons, Joe Leroy Chaloupka Jr. of Springtown, Jeff Almonrode of Fort Worth and David Almonrode of Wyoming; his mother, Cordie Williams of Fort Worth; a sister, Jessie Williams of Fort Worth; and six grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home today from 6-8 p.m.
William 'Sam' England
GARLAND, Texas - William 'Sam' England, 48, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, in Dallas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Northlake Baptist Church in Garland with the Rev. Bob Dean officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Randlett, Okla., under the direction of Williams Funeral Directors.
Mr. England was born Oct. 14, 1949, in White Settlement, Texas. He was a machinist and a member of Northlake Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria J. England of Garland; two sons, Heath H. of Fayetteville, Ark., and Morgan L. of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Audra J. England of Garland; his mother, Ruby Mae England of Burkburnett.
Memorials may be made to the Northlake Baptist Church Handbell Choir.

Joe Wayne Gist
BURKBURNETT - Joe Wayne Gist, 48, of Houston died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, in a Houston hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owens & Brumley Chapel in Burkburnett with Stephen Wiggins, minister of Burkburnett Church of Christ, officiating.
Mr. Gist was born Nov. 23, 1949, in Wichita Falls. He was a 1968 graduate of Denver City High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Insitute. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the Texas Society of Radiological Technologists and American Society of Radiological Technologists. He was an Eagle Scout and an Explorer Scout.
Survivors include two brothers, Gary of Pottsboro, Texas, and Larry of Orlando, Fla.
The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

Lewis Wade Caussey
SEYMOUR, Texas - Lewis Wade Caussey, 70, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, in a Seymour hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with Shannon Gresham, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Seymour under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Caussey was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Seymour. He and Gennell Ward were married Oct. 28, 1948, in Seymour. She died Feb. 14, 1991. He served as a cook for the Army during World War II. He owned and operated L.W.'s Hamburgers in Seymour for 20 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church. A son, Jim Manley, died Jan. 18, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Gena Copeland of Seymour; a son, Wade of Brownwood, Texas; a sister, Betty Wilfong of Rotan, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, P.O. Box 786, Seymour, Texas 76380; or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2301 Midwestern Parkway, Suite No. 214, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308.

Diane McFadden Cresp
Diane Marie McFadden Cresp, 48, of Wichita Falls died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Richard Arndt, a deacon at Our Lady Queen of Peace, officiating. Burial will be in Moores Crematory in Arlington, Texas.
Mrs. Cresp was born April 30, 1950, in Sugar Land, Texas. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Cresp; two daughters, Jennifer and Carlene Cresp, both of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Debra McKinney of Richmond, Texas, and Kelly Wilcox of Sugar Land, Texas; and her step-father, Red Maresh of Beasley, Texas.
