Lee Roy Stepp, 94, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Max Dowling, pastor of Highland Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mr. Stepp was born Dec. 20, 1904, in Cooper, Texas. He and Stella Jo Ewing were married Sept. 22, 1934. She died Sept. 12, 1996. He moved to Hugo, Okla. and then to Wichita Falls in 1921. He was owner of Stepp’s Grocery, was a carpenter for Midwestern state University and retired in 1973. He was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Ronnie of Houston, David, Steve and Shelby, all of Wichita Falls; a sister, Lydia Watkins of Wichita Falls; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is at 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Eric Lewis Holster Jr.
Eric Lewis Holster Jr., infant son of Angie and Eric Holster of Wichita Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Crestview Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Christmas, pastor of Allendale Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Eric was born Jan. 6, 1999, in Wichita Falls.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Gunner and Conner of the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles of Wichita Falls; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Hendricks of Tuscon, Ariz.
Dixie S. Gerth
Dixie S. Gerth, 55, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Merle Pedigo, retired Air Force chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mrs. Gerth was born May 6, 1943, in San Antonio. She and William R. Gerth were married Sept. 7, 1962, in San Antonio. She had been a resident of Wichita Falls since 1975 when she moved from Kerrville, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Women’s Forum, the Christian Women’s Club and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Laura Lee Cuatt of Dean, Texas, Robin Lynn Garrett of Petrolia, Texas, and Kelly Kay Miller of Spokane, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Don Ray Tucker
FREDERICK, Texas – Don Ray Tucker, 62, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Indiahoma, Okla., School Gymnasium with Roy Jaye and Duard Givens officiating. Burial will be in Post Oak Cemetery of Indiahoma under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.
Mr. Tucker was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Hobart, Okla. He and June Mullins Hix were married Feb. 27, 1998, in Vernon, Texas. He graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1954, and later received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwestern State University in Weatherford in 1961. He was a former principal, teacher and coach in Indiahoma Public School System for many years. He later taught at the Treasure Lake Job Corp. He was presently a rancher and farmer. He owned and operated Tucker Heavy Equipment Construction Company in Davidson, Okla. He was a member of the Church of Christ. His son, Hoyt A. Tucker, died in 1990.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lori Shook of Frederick; a stepson, Don Hankins of Snyder, Okla.; his grandmother, Mollie Snow of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Joyce Chancellor of North Edwards, Calif., and Paula Lee of Oklaunion, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Betty Jean Walker
BOWIE, Texas – Betty Jean Walker, 69, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1998, in a Decatur hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Chapel with the Rev. Ron Abbott, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bowie. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Walker was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Fort Worth. She and Jack M. Walker were married Sept. 15, 1947, in Weatherford, Texas. He died Aug. 17, 1988. She was a licensed vocational nurse. She was Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Terry Laughlin of Fort Worth; three sons, Jack M. and Hobie James, both of Bowie, and David Lee of Fort Worth; a sister, Pat Habbertzle of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Martha Thomas
CROWELL, Texas -- Martha Thomas, 88, of Crowell died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in a Crowell nursing center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Crowell with the Rev. Richard White, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crowell Cemetery under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas was born Nov. 9, 1910, in Crowell. She and Floyd B. Thomas were married June 19, 1936. He died March 17, 1977. She was a lifetime resident of Crowell and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She graduated from Crowell High School, attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock and graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. She was a retired teacher and member of the Adelphian Club. Her son, Buff Nelson, died Sept. 24, 1981.
Survivors include a sister, Bernice McDaniel of Crowell; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Vaughan O’Conner
BURKBURNETT – Vaughan O’Conner, 87, of Burkburnett died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999.
Rosary and Christian Wake will be at 7 p.m. today at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Burkburnett with the Rev. Severius J. Blank of St. Jude Catholic Church officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.
Mrs. O’Conner was born Sept. 21, 1911, in Grand Forks, N.D. She and Patrick James O’Conner were married Feb. 23, 1946. He died in 1984. She was a librarian and Realtor, was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and of Kappa Alpha Theta. She moved to Burkburnett in November 1995. Her son, Robert O’Conner, died in 1973.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Smith of Burkburnett and Virginia O’Conner of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Patrick O’Conner of Buffalo Gap, Texas, and Michael O’Conner of New York; a sister, Gloria Mautz of Auburn, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
Marlon Cummins
QUANAH, Texas -- Marlon Griffin Cummins, 85, of Quanah, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jesse Dea officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Price-Jackson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cummins was born June 7, 1913, in Goodlett, Texas. She and James Tucker were married March 9, 1975. He died April 3, 1983. She and A.B. Cummins were married June 30, 1989, in Altus, Okla. He died Dec. 31, 1994. She was a graduate of Quanah High School and attended Texas State College for Women at Denton. She also attended West Texas State University. She was a homemaker and a member of 1904 Club and many civic organizations. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, James A. Currie of Abernathy, Texas; a sister, Fern Nippert of Quanah, Texas; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Katherine Jo Boger
VERNON, Texas – Katherine Jo Boger, infant daughter of Malcolm and Buffy Coger of Vernon, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Private graveside services will be today in Wilbarger Memorial Park with Stephen Ramsey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

VERNON, Texas – Mazel Elizabeth Smithwick, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in a Vernon nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Wilbarger Memorial Park with Jay Hanley of Wilbarger Street Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smithwick was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Taylor County. She and Perry H. “Pete” Smithwick were married Nov. 12, 1936, in Baird, Texas. She was a retired nurses aide. She moved to Vernon from Anson, Texas, in 1951. She was a member of Wilbarger Street Church of Christ. A daughter, Barbara Killian, died March 17, 1988.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Aubrey of Vernon; a daughter, Gloria Collier of Vernon; a brother, Finis Donelly of Clyde, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Cribbs was born Aug. 13, 1910, in Newcastle, Texas. Her husband, Aubrey T. Thompson, died in 1979. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church. She was a resident of Young County most of her life.
Survivors include a son, J.R. Thompson of Blackwell, Texas; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Yager was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Fort Worth. He and Mary M. Harris were married Feb. 6, 1946, in Weatherford, Texas. She died April 16, 1993. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre and the Philippine Islands. He was the owner and operator of Faith City Cleaners from 1946 to 1972. He had been a resident of Wichita Falls since 1946.
Survivors include his daughter, Karon Sue Milligan of Fort Worth; a son, Danny Harris of Wichita Falls; a sister, Mamie Turner of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

John Junior Isbell
GRAHAM, Texas -- John Junior Isbell, 64, of Graham died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in a Jacksboro hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Medlan Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. George Fain, pastor of Cornerstone Pentecostal Church of God in Iowa Park, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mr. Isbell was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Young County, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Graham and a retired oilfield worker.

Mrs. Bridges was born March 31, 1912, on the family farm north of Hastings. She and Arthur Bridges were married Aug. 29, 1931, in Walters. He died Dec. 8, 1979. She was the sixth of eight children and attended Belcher Hill Country School. She lived southwest of Hastings for 40 years and moved to Hastings in 1971. She was a homemaker and a member of Waurika Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Burgess of Logan, N.M., Charlotte Peck of Duncan, Okla., and Lisa Gillmore of Amarillo, Texas; six sons, Olen Bridges of Canon City, Col., Don Bridges of Hastings, Marion Bridges of Healdton, Okla., Gary Bridges of Amarillo, Farrell Bridges of Marlow, Okla., and Loren Bridges of Terral, Okla.; two sisters, Roxie Huff of Duncan and Imogene ‘Jean’ Morris of Waurika; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Mr. McCandless was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Wichita Falls. He was a retired cabinet maker. He was a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls.

Mr. Cooper was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Kemp, Okla. He was a retired oil field derrickman. He had been a longtime resident of Holliday.

GRAHAM, Texas – Eldon L. Nugent, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Graham.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Center Assembly of God Church in Graham with the Rev. Charlie Bazan officiating. Burial will be in Loving Cemetery under the direction of McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home.
Mr. Nugent was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Slaton, Texas. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a retired aircraft mechanic and a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Veila Guinn Nugent of Graham; a stepson, Jonathan Todd Grindratt of Porter, Texas; a sister; three brothers; and four stepgrandchildren.

KNOX CITY, Texas – Mary E. Grindstaff, 95, of Knox City died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in a Knox County hospital.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas, with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Grindstaff was born April 18, 1903, in Palo Pinto County, Texas. She attended business college before working in Dallas. She moved to Knox City in the early 1970s from Bowie, Texas, and returned in 1988. She also farmed, was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Dallas and of the Business Woman’s Club of Dallas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Ava Merritt of Lamar, Colo.
