Geneva May Dohon, 82, Nevada, MO passed away Thursday morning, July 5, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born June 22, 1919 in Willamson County, IL to the late George T. Pate and Lula Legrant Pate. She was married to Everett Ruble who passed away in 1969. She married Chester L. Dohon in Virginia City, NV June 9, 1977. He preceded her in death June 19, 1987. Mrs. Dohon was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nevada and taught the Goodwill Sunday School Class for years. For several years, she was employed as a factory worker for an electronics company. Survivors include one step-daughter, Glenda Alexander, State of CA. Their or no local arrangements scheduled. Mrs. Dohon’s body was cremated. A private interment
will be held at a later date at Pate Chapel Cemetery, Murphysboro, IL. Arrangements were under the direction of Milster Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.
Edith Dixon
Died On January 1, 2001
Edith Ann Dixon, 98, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday evening, January 1, 2001, at the Barone Alzheimer Care Center in Nevada. She was born February 2, 1902, in Cave City, AR, to Henry Thomas Blevens and Margrete Ellen Pierce Blevens. She married Luther E. Dixon in 1934 in Lepanto, AR, and he preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Dixon lived her whole life in Arkansas before coming to Nevada in 1980. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Nevada. She was a homemaker. Survivors include three daughters, Neoma Stevens, Nevada, MO, Juanita Trail, Artemas, PA, and Barbara Carroll, Fox, AR; two sons, W. S. Dixon, Harrison, AR, and Roy C. Dixon, Winachee, WA, 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Pearl Clem, Radford, AR, and Stell Mattox, Hartford, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Orville Slayden, one sister, and three brothers. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 4, 2001, at 3:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Leasor officiating. Interment

Gladys Dickerson

Gladys M. Dickerson, 95, Nevada, MO, formerly of Emporia, KS, passed away Sunday evening, December 17, 2000 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born May 11, 1905 in Saffordville, KS to the late Charles Albin and Tressa Nelson Albin. She was married April 29, 1929 in Emporia, KS to Jess Dickerson. He preceded her in dath, January 19, 1988. Gladys graduated from high school in Emporia, KS and attended college in Norman, OK. She and her husband owned and operated a store in Emporia for many years. Shortly after the death of her husband, she moved to Nevada to be closer to her brother. She lived here the remainder of her life. Survivors include one brother, Russell Albin and wife Rosie, Kansas City, MO. Along with her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at Hillside-Toledo Cemetery, west of Emporia, KS. Friends may call at Milster Funeral Home, 301 W. Jack DeSpain

Jack K. DeSpain, 44, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 2001, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 20, 1957, in St. Joseph, MO, to Richard David DeSpain and Marjorie Irene Key DeSpain. He married Kathy R. Graham on March 13, 1987, in Austin, TX, and she survives of Nevada. Jack was born and raised in St. Joseph, MO. He spent most of his life as an automobile mechanic. He came to Nevada from Texas in 1994. Jack had worked with his brother Richard at Ricky D’s Auto Sales and Repair since 1994. Survivors in addition to his wife, Kathy, include six children, Sherri DeSpain, Nevada, MO, Andrea and Ashley DeSpain, both of St. Joseph, MO, Derek, Savannah, and Jennifer DeSpain, all of Nevada, MO; parents, Richard and Irene DeSpain, Nevada, MO; three brothers, Richard DeSpain, Nevada, MO, Fred DeSpain, St. Joseph, MO, and Doug DeSpain, Nevada; two sisters, Debra DeSpain and Connie Melendez, both of Austin, TX, and maternal grandmother, Rose Collins, Theodosia, MO. Luther Dennis

Luther Lee Dennis, 57, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday night, September 6, 2001, at Christian Health Care in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born November 28, 1943, in Nevada, MO, to Earl Eugene Dennis and Feba Maurine Dally Dennis. He married Betty E. Gordon on September 2, 1989, in Lamar, MO, and she survives of the home. Luther graduated from Walker High School in 1961. He attended college at Southern Missouri State University, Springfield, MO, and Central Missouri State, Warrensburg, MO. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1965 and served at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. He returned to Nevada where he worked at the Nevada State Hospital for 23 years leaving in 1991. He then worked for Service Masters at the Nevada Habilitation Center until his retirement on November 13, 2000. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Nevada. Survivors in addition to his wife, Betty, include his parents, Earl E. and Maurine Dennis, Walker, MO; one son, Brandon L. Dennis, Liberty, MO; one daughter, Aimee D. Dennis, Bronaugh, MO; one sister, Carolyn M. Wallace, Walker, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Reily Dawson, 66, a maintenance supervisor and musician, formerly of Nevada, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2001 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in Salinas, CA. He was born September 28, 1935 in Fulton, MO, and lived in Monterey County for 26 years. Mr. Dawson served in the U.S. Air Force and later worked as a maintenance supervisor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Research Station in Salinas CA for many years. He was an avid musician, having played guitar with the Blue Blazes Band and the James Boys Band in Nevada. He played pedal steel guitar in California with the Greg Morrison Band, Tobacco Road and Dakota Bands. He also played with the Salinas, California Rodeo Band. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Ireland Dawson, of the home; four daughters, Tanya Dawson, Tucson, AZ, Paula Andra, Sahuarita, AZ, Stephanie Foley, Milo, MO, Wendy Dawson, Kansas City, MO; one son, Reiley Dawson, Peoria, AZ; one grandson and four granddaughters; his mother, Mary Pickrel, Seneca SC and father, Orval “Jim” Dawson, Globe, AZ; two sisters, Yvonne Beckner, Peoria, IL, Judy Dawson, Fulton, MO; two brothers, James Dawson, Seneca SC, Reginald Dawson, Peoria, IL; numerous nieces and nephews. Fern Marie Davis, 96, Nevada, MO, passed away Saturday night, December 8, 2001, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born April 22, 1905. She married Vern Edgar Davis on February 2, 1923, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1993. Mrs. Davis spent most of her life in Vernon County as a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Nevada. Survivors include one nephew, Bill Parry, Cleveland, CA; two daughters-in-law, Vanita Davis, Nevada, MO, and Billie Davis, Ellinwood, KS, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James and Gilbert Davis, six brothers, and four sisters. John Frederick Dalton, 53, Coffeyville, KS, formerly of Nevada, MO, died Saturday, January 6, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Kansas City, MO, following an illness of several months. He was born June 10, 1947, in Nevada, MO, to Leland Frederick Dalton and Rose Elaine Caldwell Dalton. John was born and raised in Nevada and graduated from College High in Pittsburg, KS. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Nevada, MO. He served in the U.S. Army. Following his time in the service, he received a degree from Southern Methodist University. He worked for many years as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor in southeast Kansas. Survivors include his parents, Leland and Rosie Dalton, Nevada, MO; one brother, Jim Dalton, Columbia, MO; two sisters, Dana Methvin, San Antonio, TX, and Anne Kreifels, Gotha, FL, and one niece. Maxine E. Dally, 78, Nevada, MO, formerly of Bronaugh, MO passed away Thursday evening, November 8, 2001 at Barone Alzheimer Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born December 16, 1922 in Des Moines IA. Her parents where the late David Haas and Velore Shanholtzer Haas. She was married August 15, 1940 in Nevada, MO to Lane C. Dally. He preceded her in death December 8, 1999. After her marriage, Mrs. Dally and her husband moved to Bronaugh, MO in 1942. She was a very active member of the Bronaugh Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a homemaker and a loving mother. Survivors include one son, William L. Dally, Bronaugh, MO; two daughters, Linda Sours, Pittsburg, KS, Shirley Dally, Pleasant Hill, MO; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one half sister, Helen Pepe, the state of Washington. Betty Josephine Dailey, 73, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday morning, June 1, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born September 8, 1927, in Dederick, MO, the daughter of Bennie Finis Shaffer and Edith Marie Shirley Shaffer. She married Roy J. Dailey on August 1, 1975, in Miami, OK, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Dailey was born in Dederick, MO, and spent all of her life in this area. She worked for many years at Nevada State Hospital retiring in 1993. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was chairman of the poppy sales fundraiser for many years. She was also a member of the Westminster Club. Survivors in addition to her husband include four sons, Joseph Clinton Olson, Joplin, MO, William Eugene Olson, Plymouth, WI, Bennie Wayne Olson, Nevada, MO, David Nelson Olson, St. Louis, MO; one stepdaughter, Connie Fleener, El Dorado Springs, MO; one brother, Gerald Shaffer, Raymore, MO; one sister, Pearl Hoffman, Anchorage, AK, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Eula Grace Dahmer, age 87 of Nevada passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a short illness. She was born on February 18, 1914 in Nevada, MO to Jesse H. and Laura B. Gates Skinner. On August 21, 1932 she was married to Maurice Lee Dahmer in Lamar, MO and he preceded her in death in 1996. Grace was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. She and her husband lived on the family farm west of Milo for many years. She was a longtime member of the Milo Help Your Neighbor Club. Grace is survived by three sons, Maurice Lee Dahmer, Jr. of Nevada, Charles Dean Dahmer of Sheldon, and David Patrick Dahmer of Denver, CO; three daughters, Dianne Morris of Kansas City, MO, Kay Wells of Grove, OK, and Sue Crawford of Blue Springs, MO; fourteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Maurice, she was preceded in death by one brother Gilbert Skinner. Olga Frances Dahmer, 100, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday night, April 29, 2001, at the Christian Health Care in Nevada following a brief illness. She was born December 12, 1900, in Milo, MO, the daughter of Gilbert Fuller Palmer and Susan Melinda Scholl Palmer. She married Virgil Monroe Dahmer and he preceded her in death in September 1954. Mrs. Dahmer was born and raised in Vernon County and spent her entire lifetime here. She taught in area schools for 45 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the 39er’s Club. Survivors include two grandchildren, Jeff Dahmer, Coppell, TX, and Jennifer Crabb, Tulsa, OK, and one great-grandchild, Sarah Crabb, Tulsa, OK. In addition to her husband, Virgil, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donley Dahmer, five brothers, and six sisters. Mildred Mae Dahmer, 81, Nevada, MO, died Thursday morning, October 25, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born May 11, 1920, in Holly, CO, to Jack Robert Tally and Almeda Elizabeth Kincaide Tally. She married Duane L. Dahmer on March 8, 1941, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1989. Mrs. Dahmer was born in Holly, CO, but moved to this area at age nine. She graduated from Walker High School, Walker, MO. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Nevada, and was last of the charter members at the church. She worked for 13 years at Tate Nursing Home, Nevada, and later at Nevada State Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1983. Survivors include one daughter, Almeda Fleming and her husband, Delbert, Wichita, KS; one brother, Vernon Tally, Clinton, MO, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Norma Culbertson

Norma Glasgow Culbertson, 72, of rural El Dorado Springs departed this life November 7, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a 30-year fight with cancer. She was born April 19, 1929, the second daughter of George Walter and Bertha Mae Benge Glasgow in Fairfield, IA. She was educated in Davis County schools. At the age of 12, she committed her life to Jesus Christ and served in Baptist churches the rest of her life. She married Dale E. Culbertson of El Dorado Springs December 23, 1946, and they lived at the present location for 54 years. He preceded her in death in April of 1997. She worked outside the home for 42 years; for International Shoe Co., Nelly Don, Inc., and Consolidated PWSD#1 of Vernon County while also being a full partner with Dale on the farm. She is survived by her son, Steven Kent Culbertson, his wife Linda, and son, Taylor of Omaha, NE; grandson, Steven Kent Culbertson, Jr., his wife, Debbie, and daughters, Olivia, Victoria, and Madeline of the home; also by close friends, Richard, Janice and Ashley Jacquinot, St. Paul, KS; three sisters, Anita Leininger and husband, Lester, Lincoln, NE; Marcine Porter, Iowa City, IA, and Norcita Seals, Bloomfield, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her final exhortation to all her loved ones is to examine their hearts and make sure of their relationship to God and so prepare to meet her once again on the other side. Russell Croxell

Russell Lewis Croxell, 71, Rockville, MO, passed away Monday evening, November 5, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, following an illness of several months. He was born February 25, 1930, in Correctionville, IA, to Ivan Croxell and Eva Mae Claude Croxell. He married Donna Mae Mundt on February 25, 1957, in Dennison, IA. She preceded him in death in 1999. Survivors include one son, Virgil Croxell, Overland Park, KS; two daughters, Evelyn Carter, K.C., MO, and Penny Croxell, Rockville, MO; three grandchildren, Ronald Croxell and Tauscha Vogt, both of Kansas City, MO, and Johnathan Croxell, Rockville, MO, two brothers, and four sisters. He was preceded in death by one sister. Mr. Croxell was a Tank Commander in the Army serving both in Korea and Viet Nam. He received the Bronze Star and was honorably discharged after 22 years of service at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his service, he had lived most of his life in the Kansas City area until recently moving to Rockville, MO. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2001, at White Chapel Cemetery, Gladstone, MO. Roy M. Crouse

Roy M. Crouse, the son of Ivan and Clara Nielson Crouse, was born September 13, 1911 in Arthur, Nebraska and died July 6, 2001 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 23 days. He was united in marriage to the former Lorene A. Locke on March 29, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death December 8, 1992. Mr. Crouse was employed at the Nevada State Hospital for a number of years as a Psychiatric Aide. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was awarded three bronze stars for service during the Rhineland, Aredennes and Central Europe Campaigns. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the VFW. Survivors include one brother, Charles Crouse of New Cumberland, PA, one brother-in-law, Joe Locke of Winfield, KS, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 11, 2001 at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas with Rev. James Crosswhite

James Willard Crosswhite, 81, Nevada, MO, formerly of Walker, MO passed away Tuesday morning, August 28, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born March 22, 1920 in Walker, MO to the late Willard Perry Crosswhite and Tilla Ozenberger Crosswhite. He was married in June of 1982 in Miami, OK to Sharon Ann Gill Crosswhite who survives of the home. Mr. Crosswhite was raised in Walker, MO and graduated from Walker High School. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II. After the war he worked as a truck driver for Dealers Transport hauling Ford automobiles. After his retirement he returned to Nevada where he continued to farm for many years. He was a member of the Nevada Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2175, American Legion, Post # 2 and the Nevada Eagles Lodge. Along with his wife Sharon, survivors include one son, Ronald Crosswhite, Nevada, MO; one step-son, Rusty Mullenix, Ft. Morgan, CO; one step-daughter, Gail Wyckoff, Nevada, MO; five step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; two sisters, Wilma Robb, Ingles, FL, Edna Place, Nevada, MO; one brother, Ralph Crosswhite, Fullerton, CA. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Orpha Copenhaver, Nellie Baggett and Mildred Cowee. Mr. Crosswhite is to be cremated and per his request no services are planned. Ralph C. Cropp

Ralph C. Cropp, the son of Bruce M. and Lydia O. Oertlein Cropp, was born May 6, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away October 30, 2001 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 24 days. He was a graduate of the Parks Air College in St. Louis, MO where he received a B.S. Degree in Airport Management. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during WWII as a Naval Aviator and received the American Theater Victory Medal. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve after 18 years of additional service. He was united in marriage to the former Ruth B. Grossheider on November 18, 1950 in St. Louis. Following WWII he was employed at the Chart Plant in St. Louis, MO. He then worked in Civil Service for 34 years in the Army Aviation Material Command. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ferguson, MO where he was a member of the church choir until illness prevented him from continuing in early 2001. Denman, Rph and her husband, Bill, of Nevada, MO, two sons, Kenton Cropp, P.E. and his wife, Sally, of Edgerton, KS, Dr. Lance Cropp, D.O. and his wife, Kelly, of Mansfield, Ohio, two sisters, Charlene Wessel of Somerville, N.J., Gale Field of Tallahassee, FL and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Duane Cropp and one grandson, Douglas Kleinbeck. Graveside services will be 1:00 Saturday November 3, 2001 at Newton Burial Park with The Rev. Kimberlee A. William Clay Crockett, the son of Terrill and Beverly Bell Crockett, was born January 16, 2001 in Nevada, Missouri and passed away January 17, 2001 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of one day. Survivors include his parents, Terrill and Beverly Crockett, one brother, Cody, paternal grandparents, Elmer and Linda Miller of Stockton, Missouri, paternal great grandmother, Wanda Truxal of Joplin, Missouri, maternal grandparents, Robert and Irene Bell of Stockton, Missouri, maternal great grandmothers, Marge Bell and Ruth Roberts of Rosco, Missouri and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by great grandfathers William Truxal, Robert Bell Sr., Claude Roberts and a great great grandfather, Clay Bilke. Graveside services will be Saturday January 20, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at the Click Cemetery with Dr. Eldon Shaw officiating. A procession will leave from Evergreen Memorial Chapel at 1:45 P.M. Billy Bob Crawford, 86, long time resident of Nevada, passed away Saturday evening, October 14, 2000, at Moore-Few Care Center following a brief illness. He was born September 2, 1914 in Nevada, MO to the late Rush Wagner Crawford and Ada Beatrice Holland Crawford. He was married in Nevada, November 12, 1944 to Anna Hogan Crawford who survives of the home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada. He was employed with the City of Nevada for thirty years, ten as a Nevada Fire Fighter and twenty as Nevada Parks Superintendent. He retired in 1974. He was also a licensed land surveyor. Along with his wife Anna, he is survived by five sons, Bill Crawford, Nevada, MO, Bobby Crawford, Liberty, MO, Forrest Crawford, Neosho, MO, Todd Crawford, Nevada, MO, Tracy Crawford, Webb City, MO; three daughters, Joanna Perkins, Nevada, MO, Sedda Crawford, Nevada, MO, Cathy Hyder, Nevada, MO; 15 grandchildren; one brother, Burl Crawford, Nevada, MO; three sisters, Mary Fern Crawford Des Moines, IA, Adlee Northington, Des Moines, IA and Earlene Stout, Nevada, MO; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Holland Crawford and Wagnor Crawford, one sister, LaVesia Muller. Graveside Services will be 2:00 P.M. Nelson C. Craft, 86, Milo, MO, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 14, 2000, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Mr. Craft was born December 1, 1914, in Belleville, KS, to Ira G. Craft and Myrtle Mae Haskett Craft. He married Ruby M. Wright Williams on October 1, 1970, in Milo, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Craft was a graduate of Belleville, KS, High School in 1932. He came to Milo in the late 1930’s with his family and has farmed his whole life on his farm near Milo. He was a member of the Milo Baptist Church, Osage Lodge #303, Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Nevada Chapter #53, and president of the Milo Cemetery Association. Survivors in addition to his wife, Ruby, include five sons, Doug Williams, Moselle, MS, Danny Williams, Baxter Springs, KS, Ed Williams, Nevada, MO, Kevin D. Williams and Ron Williams, both of Milo, MO; three daughters, Elaine Mitts, Sparta, MO, Margie Carpenter, Milo, MO, and Donna Conway, El Dorado Springs, MO, 23 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friend and classmate, Paul Wilbert. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Williams; one grandson, Jonathan Williams, his parents; two brothers, Charles Craft and Glen Craft; one grandson, Jonathan Williams, and two sisters Ivy Kuhlman and Irene Craft.. Funeral services will be Monday, December 18, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home with John Jeffries and John Nichols officiating. Interment

Helen Gertrude Cox, 89, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday morning, October 9, 2000, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born September 7, 1911, in Nevada, MO, to Roscoe Velor Rabon and Gracie Glee Albert Rabon. She married Samuel M. Cox on January 17, 1930, in Nevada. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1996. Mrs. Cox was a Baptist. Survivors include one son, Donald Lee Cox, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Carol Jean Heckadon, Willamina, OR; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lee, Reed, Joe, and Estil Rabon; two sisters, Beulah Duncan, and a baby sister, Katherine. Private burial services will be held at Moore Cemetery in Nevada with Rev. Jerry Pyle officiating. Arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home. George Cox

George R. Cox, 48, Nevada, MO passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2001 at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born in Franklin County, MO September 24, 1952 to Charles Raymond Cox and Patricia (Wade) Cox. George moved to Nevada May 1985 and lived the remainder of his lifetime here. He was a great lover of the outdoors and enjoyed meeting people. A private memorial service will be held at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the Benton Hall Group Home, Nevada, MO with Chaplain Sharon Fisher officiating. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Milster Funeral Home, 301 W. Austin, Nevada, MO.
