Patsy Ruth Covington, 68, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday evening, February 18, 2001, at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born June 12, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, to Fay Junior Herbst and Bessie Viola Wheeler Herbst. She married Orville L. Covington on September 6, 1953, in El Dorado Springs, MO. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1963. Mrs. Covington graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1950. She farmed with her family her entire lifetime. She was a member of the Community Christian Church in Nevada. Survivors include three sons, Lewis Covington, Douglas, WY, Lee Covington, and Larry Covington, both of Nevada, MO; one daughter, Bobby Faye Covington, Belton, MO; five grandchildren, Robert and Ashley Copple; Kady, Adam, and Ryan Covington; four brothers, Junior, Bob, Bill, and Jim Herbst, all of El Dorado Spgs., MO; one sister, Betty Gibson, Douglas, WY; one stepbrother, Brice Taylor, Alabama, and one stepsister, Leila Ellis, Stockton, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Orville L. Covington. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 22, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Richard W. Conway, 61, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a short illness. He was born January 15, 1940, in Kansas City, MO, to Howard Morris Conway and Elizabeth Vesta McGennis Conway. He married Janet E. Bufka on September 11, 1960, and she resides in Independence, MO. Mr. Conway was a graduate of Schell City High School in 1958 and attended two years at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He began working in 1963 as an engineer and worked his entire life for Butler Manufacturing in Kansas City, MO, retiring in 1992. He has lived in Nevada the past 12 years. Survivors include two sons, Scott Conway, Lee’s Summit, MO, and Jeff Conway, Independence, MO, and four grandchildren. Harry "Neil" Comstock

Harry Neil Comstock, 83, Bronaugh, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, September 18, 2001, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a brief illness. He was born March 8, 1918, in Irwin, MO, to Harry Comstock and Elizabeth Brown Comstock. He married Nona Mae Baker on September 17, 1939, in Vernon County, MO, and she survives of the home. Neil and his wife, Nona, settled in Bronaugh, MO. He was a coal miner for 45 years and worked for the Ellis Coal Company, which later became Palmer Midwest Coal Company. He was also a part time farmer. He retired in 1991. In addition to his wife, Nona, survivors include one daughter, Billie Jo Clevenger and husband, Ray, Kansas City, MO; one son, Gary Comstock and wife, Mary Ellen, Bronaugh, MO; three grandchildren, Jason Comstock and wife, Tracey, Nevada, MO, Janeil Comstock, Springfield, MO, and Julie Clevenger Perkins and husband, Mike, Lee’s Summit, MO; two great-granddaughters, Lexus and Michela Perkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two nephews. Dorothy D. Collins, 81, Nevada, MO passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 2, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO following a brief illness. She was born November 27, 1919 in Kansas City, MO to the late Virgil L. Earls and Ola Banks Earls. She was married January 17, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to Claude S. Collins. He preceded her in death July 23, 1999. Mrs. Collins and her husband moved to Nevada in 1967 from Manhattan Beach, CA. She worked at Beverly Health Care, Nevada, MO and Cedar Co. Memorial Hospital as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Nevada and the Nevada Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for many years. Survivors include one son, Roy Allen Collins II, Sullivan, MO; one daughter, Claudia Thorns, Nevada, MO; four grandsons, three great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters; one brother, Richard B. Alfred R. Cole Jr., 98, Nevada, MO passed away Sunday evening, July 1, 2001 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a brief illness. He was born August 16, 1902 in rural Muscotah, KS to the late Alfred Romanzo Cole, Sr. and Frances Elinore Jones Cole. He married Gladys J. Kammer in Eden, KS April 2, 1925. She preceded him in death November 10, 1959. He married Florence D. Baker in Leavenworth, KS July 8, 1961. She preceded him in death June 7, 1989. He was raised and went to school in Eden, KS and graduated from Huron high school, Huron, KS. He attended Atchison business college for one year in Atchison, KS. Mr. Cole farmed until 1940 in the Denton, KS area. In 1940 he moved to Atchison, KS where he worked at L.F.M. machine shop for 5 years and then for the National Life Insurance Co. for 5 years. In 1956 he worked at the Cole Locker plant in Landcaster, KS. He and his wife, Florence, moved to Nevada, MO in 1962. Together they operated Cole meat processing plant in Nevada until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Nevada, MO. Survivors include one daughter, Judyth K. Cole, Nevada, MO; one step-daughter, A. Maureen Gibson, Cascade, ID; five step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and both spouses, one brother and one sister preceded him in death. Mary Ellen Coffey, 77, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday morning, October 15, 2000, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born October 19, 1922, in Strasburg, MO, to Frederick M. Brown and Lurena Longacre Brown. She married Donald Coffey on April 3, 1969, in Reno, NV, and he preceded her in death September 3, 1992. Mrs. Coffey moved to Metz from Butler with her family at a young age. She lived in and around Metz & Horton the remainder of her lifetime. Survivors include one sister, Ferba Wagner, Buckeye, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at Balltown Cemetery, Horton, MO. Jason Allen Coale, 20, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident south of Nevada, MO. He was born July 28, 1980, in El Dorado Springs, MO, to Clayton Allen Coale and Bonnie Mae Smith Coale. Jason was a graduate of Nevada High School in 1999 where he lettered in track and wrestling. Jason was an accomplished artist and had assisted with the Tiger Mural in the high school gymnasium. He was currently employed by Digital Lighthouse in Ft. Scott, KS. He was a liscensed stockbroker and was prepared to attend Pittsburg State University to pursue a business degree. Survivors include his parents, Clay and Bonnie Coale, of the home; one sister, Melissa Coale, of the home; maternal grandparents, Robert and Mae Smith, Milo, MO; paternal grandfather, Bill Coale, Nevada, MO; great-grandmothers, Mary Fenton, Wilma Coale, and Doris Smith, all of Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Betty Coale. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2000, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Orpha M. Clinton

Orpha M. Clinton, the daughter of Floyd and Anna Bell Harper Smith, was born January 16, 1905 in Vernon County, Missouri and died July 19, 2001 at Moore Few Care Center at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 3 days. She was united in marriage to George Bush Clinton October 15, 1931 in Nevada, Missouri; he preceded her in death. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse employed by the Nevada State Hospital and local nursing homes. She was a lifetime Vernon County resident. She was very talented at playing the harmonica, dancing and working with her flowers. Survivors include one son, Bob L. Clinton Sr. and his wife, Laura, of Walker, Missouri, one granddaughter, Julie Mae Clinton, one grandson, Bob Lee Clinton and his wife, Lavina, two great granddaughters, Tracy and Jodee Clinton, and one niece, Betty Ann Smith Pisciotta and her husband, Vince, of Milo, Missouri. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hiner and Willie Smith and her parents. Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday July 21, 2001 at Newton Burial Park with Larry Brown officiating. Services are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Lucille Claspill, 85, of Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday morning, September 6, 2001, at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She was born February 5, 1916, in Montevallo, MO, to LeRoy Davis and Margaret Regina Hackleman Davis. She married Roy Allen Claspill on March 19, 1934, in Mound City, KS. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1971. Mrs. Claspill grew up in Montevallo and lived in Vernon County most of her life. She attended school in Montevallo and Sheldon. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Nevada, MO. She retired from Nevada State Hospital after 15 years as a psychiatric aide. Survivors include four sons, Tommy A. Claspill and his wife, Sarah, Nevada, Carol L. Claspill and his wife, Loretta, of Nevada, Darrel S. Claspill and his wife, Doris, Clinton, MO, Ronald D. Claspill and his wife, Frances, Lake Havasu, AZ; one daughter, Sandra K. Foreman, and her husband, William, Harrisonville, MO, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lyle Claspill; and three brothers, Everett, Clifford S., and Lee R. “Pete” Davis. James Lavern Chrisenbery, the son of Franklin and Ellen Long Chrisenbery, was born March 10, 1913 in Vernon County, Missouri and passed away June 2, 2001 at Moore-Few Care Center at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to the former Mary Dukes on May 19, 1948 in Amoret, Missouri and she preceded him in death April 28, 1991. He was employed as a truck driver and farmer until his retirement in 1975. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army. During WWII he served in the Phillipines. He was a member of the Rinehart Christian Church. He was baptized into Christ December 8, 1973. Survivors include one son, Frank Chrisenbery and his wife, Yvonne of Richards, Missouri, one daughter, Ellen Schmidt and her husband, Lynn, of Richards, Missouri, five grandchildren, Carrie, Misty and Anthony Lawson and Matthew and Corey Schmidt, five great grandchildren, Chance, Dakota and Christian Davis and Tyler and Caleb Schmidt. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and his parents. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 6, 2001 at Newton Burial Park with Evangelist Lynn Schmidt officiating. Leah Jean Charles, the daughter of Dr. R.B. and Clara Douglas was born February 8, 1920 in Connersville, Indiana and died April 25, 2001 at Christian Health Care in Nevada, Missouri at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 17 days. She was a graduate of Tech High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1938. She was united in marriage to Rex W. Charles on October 4, 1944 in Shelbyville, Indiana. She was first employed as an abstractor for Vernon County Abstract Company and later for Bowman's Vernon County Title Company, retiring in 1977. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was a choir member and also served on the board. She served as past District Deputy and past Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Nevada Chapter 53. Survivors include her husband, Rex, of the home, two sons, Joseph A. Charles and his wife, Georgia, Thomas L. Charles and his wife, Diana, two daughters, Linda S. Scammell and her husband, Charles, Elizabeth A. Perrin and her husband, Paul, all of Nevada, Missouri. Ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two nieces also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be April 28, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tom Haynes officiating. Burial will be at the Balltown Cemetery in Horton, Missouri. Larry Allen Center, 49, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2001, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, MO. He was born January 30, 1952, in Nevada, MO, to Clarence “Slim” Everett Center and Marian Eileen Davis Center. Larry made his home at the Covenant House, Higginsville, MO. He worked for 26 years at the Lafayette County Workshop in Higginsville, where he will be greatly missed for his many years of dedicated and loyal service. Larry accepted and liked the challenges of the more difficult tasks at the workshop. Larry enjoyed working on many different woodworking projects in his workshop set up at his home, Covenant House where he made many treasures for his family and friends. Larry enjoyed a close friendship with his brother-in-law, Pole, who helped him accomplish many things that Larry enjoyed. Survivors include his mother Marian Center, Clinton, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Linda Center, Ft. Scott, KS; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nadine and Pole Easter, Clinton, MO, Kathy and Monty Dade, Golden City, MO, three nephews, seven nieces as well as many great nephews and nieces. Craig L. Caviness, age 40 of Nevada, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2000 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness., He was born on February 10, 1960 to Jerry M. Caviness and Agatha M. Theobald Caviness. He was married on June 10, 1984 to Irene Dudley and she survives of the home. Survivors in addition to his wife Irene include two daughters, Robyn and Krista, one son Adam, one granddaughter Destiny of the home and one grandson Jacob of the home, two sisters, Katie Brockway and Pat Perkins, six brothers, John, Joe, Bob, Dennis, Jim, and Leroy Caviness, numerous nieces, nephews , cousins and a host of friends. John Bernard Caviness, 62, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday morning, December 6, 2001, at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born December 21, 1938, in Iowa City, IA, to Jerry Myer Caviness and Agatha Mary Theobald Caviness. He married Margaret Ann Longman in 1963 in Spirit Lake, IA. John was born and raised in Iowa and came to Nevada in 1988. Most of his working life was spent as a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors in addition to his wife, Margaret Caviness, Schell City, MO, include one daughter, Teresa Marie Tuttle, Schell City, MO; one son, Charles Gerald Caviness, Lake Park, IA, two grandsons, two granddaughters; five brothers, Bob Caviness, Keosauqua, IA, Joseph, Dennis, and James Caviness, all of Nevada, MO, and Leroy Caviness, Kingman, AZ; two sisters, Kathleen Brockway, Sheldon, MO, and Patricia Perkins, state of California, numerous nieces, and nephews. Dorothy Agnes Kathryn Cartwright, 75, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday night, November 7, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following an illness of several weeks. She was born August 28, 1926, in Nevada, MO, to James Alvin Thorburn and Mary Magdalene Beason Thorburn. She married Jesse Ray Cartwright on November 27, 1944, in Ft. Scott, KS, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Cartwright was born and raised in Nevada and spent her entire lifetime here. She graduated from Nevada High School. She was a member of Community of Christ Church, Nevada, and played the organ there for a number of years. She was also a member of the Daughter of Zion at the church. She worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator for many years, retiring in 1978. She was a volunteer at Nevada City Hospital. Survivors in addition to her husband, Jesse, include one son, Ken Cartwright, Nevada, MO; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary King and Linda Hurst, both of Nevada, MO, and Roberta Miller, Blue Springs, MO. She was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Ray Cartwright, and one brother, Roy Alvin Thorburn. Earl Theodore Carpenter, 35, Bentonville, AR, formerly of Nevada passed away suddenly Sunday morning, June 3, 2001, in Pea Ridge, AR. He was born on September 22, 1965, in Nevada, MO, the son of Floyd Harvey Carpenter, Sr. and Julia Belle Miler Carpenter. He married Crystal Marie Blanchard in 1991 in Deerfield, MO. She survives of Nevada, MO. Earl lived most of his life in Nevada. He attended Walker and Nevada schools. He worked all of his life in construction. He had lived the past two years in Bentonville, AR. Survivors, in addition to his wife Crystal, include two daughters, Felicia and Jessica Carpenter, both of Nevada; one son, Ethan Carpenter, Nevada; mother, Julia Carpenter, Nevada; seven brothers, Brad Carpenter, Milo, MO, Hal Carpenter, Centerton, AR, Darrel, Harvey, Daniel, Terry, and Larry Carpenter, all of Nevada; four sisters, Kathie Keith, Joplin, MO, Janice Williams, Moselle, MS, Margie Wardin, Nevada, MO, and Sarah Wyrick, El Dorado Springs, MO. Lawrence Carpenter, the son of Martin E. and Mary Jane Ensminger Carpenter, was born October 2, 1939 in Americus, Kansas and passed away September 2, 2001 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of 61 years and 11 months. He was united in marriage to the former Hazel C. Pringle June 20, 1970 in Harlingen, Texas. Mr. Carpenter was employed as a truck driver and most recently employed by All Freight Trucking Company. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Marine Corps. Survivors include his wife, Hazel, of the home, his mother, Mary Jane Carpenter of Nevada, Mo, two sons, Thomas Silvola of El Dorado Springs, Mo,John Silvola of Winona, Ms, three daughters, Deanna Chadd of Nevada, Mo, Charlotte Gooch of Greenwood, Mo, Melissa Hendrix of Nevada, Mo, five brothers, Bobbie Carpenter of El Dorado Springs, Mo, Jerry Carpenter of El Dorado Springs, Mo, Alan Carpenter of Lebanon, Mo, George Carpenter of Shelbina, Mo, Cecil Carpenter of Humboldt, Ks, two sisters, Lillie Olson of Nevada, Mo, Kay Hurshman of Lees Summit, Mo. and 18 grandchildren also survive. Jane L. Carlson, 76, Hermitage, MO, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2001, at Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar, MO, following an illness of several months. She was born December 8, 1924, in Fullerton, NE, to David Elmer Reed and Freda Irene Durkee Reed. Jane was born and raised in Fullerton, NE. She was a graduate of Lee’s Summit High School in 1942. She worked for AT&T in Kansas City for 11 years. She was a member of the Moundville Methodist Church, Moundville, MO. She lived in Nevada for six years prior to moving to Climax Springs in 1996. She had resided in Hermitage the past year. Survivors include three daughters, Penny Eliott, state of Florida, Pandy West, Kansas City, MO, and Brenda Hutchenson, Deepwater, MO; nine grandchildren including Richard Carlson, Ozark, MO, whom she raised, six great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carroll Reed, Nevada, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Lester Thornton officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family receives friends Tuesday 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Moundville Methodist Church.
Robert Cargill

Robert Cargill, 85, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday morning, March 19, 2001 at Barone Care Center, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. He was born November 3, 1915 in Cedar County, MO to the late Robert Cargill Sr. and Cora Pike Cargill. He was married January 29, 1936 in Nevada, MO to Hazel May Brundridge Cargill. She preceded him in death March 29, 1999. Survivors include one son, Eddie Cargill, Walker, MO; three daughters, Roberta Beauchamp, Deloniga, GA, Norma Short, El Dorado Springs, MO, Maxine Polk, Nevada, MO; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one sister Morine Chadd, Nevada, MO. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Robert Cargill Jr.; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Sloan; one grandson, David Cargill and one brother, Russell Cargill. A private family committal will be held at a later date.
Beth Campbell
Died On November 23, 2000
Beth Clare Campbell, 86, New Braunfels, TX, formerly of Sheldon, MO, passed away November 23, 2000, in New Braunfels, TX. She was born January 15, 1914, in Sheldon, MO, to Clarence C. Campbell and Agnes Peck Campbell. Beth was born and grew up in Sheldon and went through high school there. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1932. She next graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS, and started her teaching career in Vernon County. She taught at Valley Park in the St. Louis area in 1942-1943 and then went to Arizona to teach in the fall of 1943. She taught at Prescott, AZ, until her retirement in June of 1977. After retirement, she traveled in the United States including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. She lived in Prescott until 1996 when she moved to a retirement apartment facility in New Braunfels to be near her brother and wife, John and Tess Campbell. Survivors include one brother, John Allen Campbell, New Braunfels, TX; three nieces, Terri Berry, Friendswood, TX, Lana Genthe, Kingwood, TX, and Joan Campbell, Bellaire, TX, and two cousins, Alice Donaldson, Kirkwood, MO, and Margaret Phipps Darr, Oak Brook, IL. Committal services will be Monday, March 12, 2001, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO, with Rev. Ed Bayless officiating. Local arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home.
Margaret Byrnes

Margaret Eleanor Byrnes, 93, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday morning, December 22, 2000, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a short illness. She was born January 20, 1907, in Butler, MO, to Michael J. Dwyer and Eleanor Lizzie Jackson Dwyer. She married Clarence F. Byrnes on May 31, 1928, in Nevada, MO. He preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Byrnes was a graduate of Nevada High School in 1924. She lived her whole life in Nevada. She worked for many years at Montgomery Wards, retiring in 1965. Memberships include the First Baptist Church, Business and Professional Women, and Elks Does. Survivors include two sons, Robert O. Byrnes, Spokane, WA, and William J. Byrnes, Nevada, MO, five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Clarence, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Harris, four brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment

Harold "Vernon' Burris

Harold “Vernon” Burris, 81, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, Ft. Scott, KS, following a short illness. He was born December 10, 1919, in Deerfield, MO, to Harry Burris and Mary Elizabeth Slater Burris. He married Vivian C. Newland on April 14, 1946, in Carthage, MO, and she survives of the home. Vernon was born and raised in Vernon County. He was a graduate of Nevada High School in 1938. He owned and operated heavy machinery most of his working years and was also a harness maker for many years. He raised horses and mules all of his life. In addition to his wife, Vivian, he is survived by one brother, Floyd Burris, Lemon Grove, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Burris, and one infant sister, Mona Arlene Burris. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Revs. Steve Barth and Lester Thornton officiating. Interment

Claud Burris

Claud D. Burris, 92, Nevada, MO, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 29, 2001, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 25, 1908, in Nevada, MO, the son of Charles Thomas Burris and Nora Lee Buzzard Burris. He married Helen F. Jones on February 21, 1979, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Burris was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. He farmed nearly all of his working life. He also worked at various other jobs such as Nevada State Hospital, the Catholic Convent, Tough’s Market in Nevada for a number of years, and owned and operated Burris Lake and Bait Shop for over 45 years. In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Frances Decker, Versailles, MO, Donna Hulse, Bronaugh, MO; one son, David Simon, Milo, MO; seven grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Burris, Nevada, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Norman Highley officiating. Interment

Gladys Burris

Gladys Laura Burris, 87, Lamar, MO, formerly of Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday evening, December 31, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness. She was born June 30, 1913, in Nevada, MO, to the late F. G. Riggs and Bertha C. Hunt Riggs. She was married May 7, 1932, in Vernon County, MO, to Dick Burris. He preceded her in death December 16, 1977. Gladys was born and raised in Nevada. She was a member of the Methodist church. She worked for many years as a cook in the Nevada schools. She moved to Lamar in 1978 and spent the remainder of her life there. Survivors include one grandson, Robert Rushing, Lamar, MO; two stepchildren, Paul Gene Burris, Grand Junction, CO, and Maxine Smith, Sioux Falls, SD. Along with her parents and spouse, one daughter, Joyce Suggs, and one brother, Herbert Riggs also preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Kenneth Musgrove officiating. Interment
