Ruby R. Burnett, Amoret, MO, formerly of Nevada passed away Wednesday morning, November 8, 2000 at Bates County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born July 16, 1909 in Elkador, KS to the late Jay Monroe Beaver and larura Bell Hallam Beaver. She was married November 27, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to Elbert C. Burnett. He preceded her in death February 5, 1978. Ruby was a long-time resident of Nevada. She was an active memer of Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. She spent her lifetime as a homemaker, mother and grandmother. Survivors include three sons, Ronald E. Burnett, Lee's Summit, MO, Donald D. Burnett, Belton, MO, Edward L. Merchant, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Kathleen Berry, Amoret, MO; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester Beaver, Nevada,MO; one sister Sarah Jane Baily, Nevada, MO. Along with her parents and spouse, one brother preceded her in death. Private funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 11, 2000 at Milster Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with the reverend Paul Patterson officiating. Interment

Margaret Ann Bunker, 68, Sheldon, MO, passed away Thursday morning, January 18, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, Harrisonville, MO, following a sudden illness. She was born December 2, 1932, in Nevada, MO, to Stephen Bernard Karhoff and Grace Mary Brewer Karhoff. She married Alphonzo L. Bunker, Sr. on June 16, 1954, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1990. Margaret was born and raised in the Sheldon area and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1951. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nevada, MO, and belonged to the church Altar Society. She worked for many years as a nurses’ aide at Nevada State Hospital and Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. She lived in Des Moines for a brief time and returned to Kansas City, MO, in 1973. She returned to the Sheldon area in 1994 and has resided there since. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Sheldon. Survivors include one son, Alphonzo Bunker, Jr, Kansas City, MO; three daughters, A. Elaine Letze, and husband, Terry, Des Moines, IA, Alice Maria Bunker, Independence, MO, and Tammy Fay Barnett, and husband, David, Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Alice Wilson, (twin sister), Sheldon, MO, and Frances Beisly, Nevada, MO, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and nine sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 22, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nevada, MO, with Father Anthony Pileggi officiating. Rosary will be Sunday night, January 21, 2001, at 6:30 p.m. with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, MO. Bernice Bryson

Bernice Lee Bryson, 84, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday morning, January 26, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following an illness of several months. She was born June 19, 1916, in Trenton, MO, to Joseph Addison Wagster and Mabel Edith Dunn Wagster. She married Lloyd F. Bryson on February 4, 1945, in Kansas City, KS, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Bryson and her husband came to Nevada in 1962 and they have operated the Nevada Municipal Airport since that time. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Trenton, MO, and attended Heritage Baptist Church in Nevada, MO. Survivors in addition to her husband, Lloyd, include two sons, Craig Bryson and wife, Tami, and Jody Bryson and special friend, Anita Jackson, all of Nevada, MO; one granddaughter, Kimberlee Bryson, Nevada, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Janet Nelson and Mary Wagster. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at 3:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Dorothy M. Bruns, 90, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, October 18, 2000, at Moore-Few Care Center. She was born February 10, 1910, in Sedro Wooley, WA, to Fred Augustus Daniels and Bertha Maud Brasted Daniels. She married Ross Osmond Bruns on February 10, 1929, in Lynden, WA, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Bruns was very active in the Senior Center in Lynden, WA, and a member of the Lynden Methodist Church. She came to Vernon County from Arkansas with her daughter in 1996. She had lived her whole life in Washington prior to that time. Survivors include three daughters, Marlene Alta Fish and husband Warren, Harwood, MO, Birdie Mildred Crawford and husband, Ron, Port Angeles, WA, and Leanna May Hardin and husband, Jack, Maple Valley, WA; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four great-great-granddaughters, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Walter Daniels; one sister, Edna Hess, her parents; her husband, Ross, and one grandson. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, October 27, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Pastor Eldon Allen and Larry Fish officiating. Dale Vernon Brooks, 70, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday night, February 19, 2001, at Christian Healthcare, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 9, 1931, in Oswego, KS, to Ora Brooks and Rachael Needham Brooks. He married Mary Louise Brown on June 21, 1967, in Miami, OK, and she survives of the home. Mr. Brooks was born in Oswego, KS. He was a Baptist. He came to Vernon County in mid 1960 and lived here the remainder of his life. He made his living in construction. He was a member of the Metal Lathers Union. Survivors in addition to his wife, Mary Lou, include one daughter, Donna Jean Weeks, Saint Marie, MI; two grandchildren, three sisters, Opal Gallop, Kansas City, MO, Mabel Parsons, Altamont, KS, and Grace Schuler, Streator, Il. Dorothy Lee Brockman, 85, Nevada, MO passed away Thursday evening, January 25, 2001 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born June 25, 1915 in Nevada, MO to the late Harvey Dowell and Lorene Thompson Dowell. She was married in Butler, MO to Taylor Brockman. He preceded her in death in 1991. Dorothy grew up in Nevada. She graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO. She moved to Atlanta, GA after WW II where she worked for an insurance agency. In 1973 she moved to Bentonville, AR and returned to Nevada, MO in 1993, where she lived the remainder of her lifetime. Dorothy was a Baptist, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Survivors include one daughter, Patty Edwards, Rogers AR; two grandchildren, Jennifer Weaver, Bentonville, AR, Sam Edwards, Bentonville, AR; one great-grandchild, Bradley Weaver, Bentonville, AR; two nephews, David Dowell, Sequin, TX, Kelly Bradham, Nevada, MO; one niece Cam Owen, Nevada, MO. She was preceded in death by one brother, Sid Dowell. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2001 at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Nevada with Father Anthony Pileggi officiating. Jean Caroline Brenner, 85, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday morning, November 22, 2001, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born January 25, 1916, in Kansas City, MO, to George Lawrence Tamblyn and Elsie May Allen Tamblyn. She married Harvey A. Brenner on March 5, 1942, in Parkville, MO, and he survives of Nevada. Mrs. Brenner graduated from Parkville High School and attended William Woods College and Scharchon-Hooley Business School. She and her husband made their home near Parkville until 1959 when they moved to Nevada where they have resided for 42 years. She served as executive secretary of the United Community funds for many years. She also worked beside her husband on the farm. She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, an active member of the Wayside Club, the Ellis Domestic Science Club and the Red Cross Volunteers. She served on the board of directors for the Vernon County Farm Bureau for many years. Survivors in addition to her husband, Harvey, include one daughter, Harva Miller and her husband, Mark; three grandchildren, Marty Miller and his wife, Christi, Myles Miller and his wife, Kristin, all of Nevada, and Melanie Guthrie and her husband, Scott, Macon, GA; two great-grandchildren, Hailee and Hanna Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Lawrence F. and Robert A. Tamblyn. Elizabeth Jane Breckenridge, 81, Nevada MO passed away Saturday morning, April 14, 2001, at Barone Health Care, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. She was born December 25, 1919 in Nevada, MO to the late Jesse Osborn and Mary George Osborn. She was married February 14, 1942 in Nevada to Keith C. Breckenridge. He preceded her in death February 2, 1963. Mrs. Breckenridge was born and raised in Nevada and spent virtually her entire lifetime here. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1937 and Cottey College in 1939. She worked for many years at the Birdseye Abstract Company, Farm and Home Saving and Loan and for a number of years with her husband at O & B Market. Following her husband’s passing she worked for the Franklin School, The American Red Cross and the Social Security Administration. She retired in 1984. Mrs. Breckenridge was a member of the Lares Club and the Nevada Country Club and was an avid golfer. Survivors include two sons, Bryan Breckenridge, Nevada, MO, Robert Breckenridge, St. Louis, MO and three grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, two sisters, Gladys Stringer and Lucille Scarborough preceded her in death. Margaret Bowlin

Margaret G. Bowlin, 88, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born July 20, 1913, in Meadow Grove, NE, to Micah Dickerson James and Sarah Elizabeth Bartee James. She married Harry Benjamin Bowlin in 1945 in Omaha, NE. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Bowlin was born and raised in Nebraska. She graduated from high school in Tildon, NE. She graduated from nursing school as a registered nurse from the Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, NE. From 1940-1945 during WW II she was administrator of the Glen L. Martin Health Care Facility located at what is now Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. She later served as administrator of hospitals in Aledo, IL, and Sigourney, IA. She lived in El Dorado Springs for a number of years before coming to Nevada in 1972. She worked at Nevada State Hospital as Health Care Coordinator for 35 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Nevada, MO, and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the church. She was also a past member of the BPW, past president of the District 13 Missouri Nurses Association, served on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Missouri Mental Health Association. She was a member of the Nevada Garden Club and the Nevada Quilting Club. Survivors include one son, Richard Carl Bowlin, Nevada, MO; four sisters, Eva Bell Epp, Augusta, KS, Betty Beckley, Central City, NE, Virginia Tufte, Beverly Hills, CA, and Sally Glidden, Sagus, CA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Millard Wheeler James and John William James, and three sisters, Oneita Mae Larson, Mary Ann Boucher, and Kathryn Elizabeth Miller. She was born September 28, 1922, in Sheldon, MO, to George Henry Ford and Sylvia Ider Hoover Ford. She married Robert F. Bogart on May 1, 1941, in Lamar, MO. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1987. Mrs. Bogart was born and raised in the Sheldon area and spent virtually her entire life there. She was a member of the Bronaugh Methodist Church, Bronaugh, MO. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener and seamstress. John Bloesser, 61, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, October 16, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born February 16, 1940, in Kansas City, MO, to Ralph Bloesser and Anareta Irene Johnson Bloesser. He married Anna Lee Klotz on December 20, 1958, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. John grew up in the Walker area and graduated from Walker High School in 1957. He went into the insurance business in 1964. He became an independent insurance agent in 1971 and has been owner and operator of the Bloesser Insurance Agency since that time. He also farmed most of his life. He spent eight years in the National Guard. His memberships include St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Nevada, MO, of which he served on the church council and Chairman of the Building Committee, member and past master of the Walker Masonic Lodge #605, Mirza Shrine Temple, York Rite and Scottish Rite, and Nevada Eastern Star #53. Survivors in addition to his wife, Anna Lee, include one daughter, Deanna Ness and husband, Don, Nevada, MO; one son, Perry Bloesser and wife, Peggy, Nevada, MO; five grandchildren, Bethany Good, Brant Ness, Cinda, Marc, and Jill Fritter, all of Nevada, MO; mother, Irene Bloesser, Nevada, MO; brother, Tom Bloesser, and wife, Leta, Walker, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Center, and his father. Joann Biles, the daughter of Louis W. and Marie Mitts Logston, was born July 16, 1937 in Nevada, Missouri and passed away October 24, 2001 at Camden Health Center in Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 8 days. She was united in marriage to Don Biles on September 15, 1952 in Belton, Missouri. Mrs. Biles was formerly employed for a number of years as a cook for the Nevada R-5 School District. Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home, one son, Ken Biles of Nevada, MO, two daughters, Susan Miller of Little Rock, ARK, Donna Poe of Omaha, NEBR, one brother, Lee Logston of Nevada, Missouri and one sister, Judy Nichols of Lamar, MO. Seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be Friday October 26, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at the El Bethel Baptist Church in Belton, Missouri with Pastor Charles Moore officiating. She was born November 25, 1962, in St. Louis, MO, to Billy Dale Pyles and Wilma Faye Trumble Pyles. She was born and raised in St. Louis. She moved to Vernon County in 1980 and spent the remainder of her life here. L. Gerald Beeny, 81, Nevada, MO, formerly of Sheldon passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon, April 24, 2001, at his home. He was born August 18, 1919, in Sheldon, MO, the son of Calvin W. Beeny and Ethel Almeda Higgins Beeny. He married Aileen Belle Nutter on December 21, 1940, in Arcadia, KS, and she survives of the home. Mr. Beeny graduated from Sheldon High School. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Sheldon. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Later, he attended Mortuary College in Kansas City, MO. He and his brother, Bernard, took over the ownership and management of Beeny Brothers Furniture Hardware and Funeral Home, Sheldon, MO, from their father, uncle, and grandfather in 1952. Gerald retired in 1981. He resided in Sheldon, MO, for several years and in 1997 moved to the Stockton Lake area until November 2000 when they moved to Nevada, MO. Gerald was an avid fisherman. He loved to fish and boat on Stockton Lake. He enjoyed having fish fries for his relatives and friends. His retirement was enhanced by his close friendship that he enjoyed in the community where they lived in Courtney Villa outside of Greenfield, MO. He enjoyed and loved being with his grandchildren. He enjoyed people, never met a stranger, and considered every acquaintance a friend. Gerald and Aileen had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December. Survivors in addition to his wife, Aileen, include one daughter, Dennie Williams, and husband, Earl, Blue Springs, MO; one son, Gary B. Glenn Elson Barker, age 77, of Nevada, passed away on Friday June 22, 2001, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 15, 1923, in Vernon County to Arthur Howard Barker and Sadie Jewel Thurston Barker. He was married to Betty Lou Shumaker on February 27, 1946, in Ft. Scott, KS, and she survives of the home. Mr. Barker was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. He served in the Army from 1943-1946 during which time he was involved in the invasion of Normandy during WWII. He owned and operated Glenn’s Tree Service in Nevada for over 50 years. Glenn was a longtime member of the BPO Elks #564 in Nevada. Survivors in addition to his wife, Betty, include two sons, Bill Barker of Bullhead, AZ, and Ed Barker of Nevada; three grandchildren, Travis Barker and his wife Jennie, Casey Rae Barker, and Jesse Taylor all of Nevada; one brother, Thomas W. Barker, Nevada; three sisters, Laverne Henderson, Rich Hill, MO, Ruth Jones, Milo, MO, and Nadine West, El Monte, CA. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Merl Barker, Ernest Barker, and Elmer Barker, and one sister Lottie June Barker. Elmer Lee Barker, 76, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 2001, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born January 14, 1925, in Metz, MO, to Arthur Barker and Sadie Jewell Thurston Barker. After spending his early years around Nevada, Mr. Barker moved to California to become a tree trimmer. He spent several years in Alaska working in and around logging camps. He later moved back to Nevada to spend his remaining years. Survivors include three sons, Elmer Wayne Vaughan and Victor Lee Vaughan, both of Peoria, AZ, and Michael David Barker, Osceola, MO; two daughters, Thelma Frazier, Archie, MO, and Lynda Lee Craig, Warsaw, MO; 10 grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn and Thomas Barker, both of Nevada, MO, and three sisters, Laverne Henderson, Rich Hill, MO, Ruth Jones, Milo, MO, and Nadine West, El Monte, CA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Merl and Ernest Barker. Funeral services will be Friday, March 9, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Wesley Balk

Wesley Dick Balk, 81, Nevada, MO, formerly of Ketterman, MO, passed away Sunday morning, May 6, 2001, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a valiant fight with cancer. He was born May 22, 1919, in Ketterman, MO, to Dick Balk and Kate Adams Balk. Mr. Balk attended Green Valley School. His entire life was spent farming and in the livestock operations on the family farm at Ketterman in Vernon County, MO, except during the time he was in the military from April 1945 to December 1946, where he occupied Japan. After that, he returned to the place he loved best, the farm. He was a member of Berea Christian Church, VFW Post #2175, and Eagles Lodge, Nevada, MO. Survivors include his faithful friend and companion, Laurebel Harrison, Wenatchee, WA; two sisters, Gladys Kelley in her 93rd year of life, Wenatchee, WA, and Evelyn Wallace and husband, Orville, Walker, MO; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Walter Balk, and numerous nephews, nieces and their families and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Walter, Melvin, and John Balk. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Don Renkin officiating. Interment

Gregory Arthur

Gregory Lynn Arthur, 49, of 225 E. Atlantic, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday, January 1, 2001, in Cassville, MO, after a short illness. He was born August 22, 1951, in Nevada, MO, to James K. Arthur and Wanda E. Phipps Arthur. He married Maria Herman on December 31, 1985, and she survives of the home. Greg was a 1969 graduate of Nevada High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts from Missouri Southern State College, Joplin, MO. After graduation, he worked for Black and Veatch Engineering, Kansas City, MO, and actively participated in the development of the Great Falls, MT Rural Water District. In addition, he held teaching positions with the Nevada, Walker, and Sheldon school districts teaching construction design. Upon the death of his father, he assumed a lead position in the family business, Arthur Tax Accounting. Later, he established EFI Group, with his wife, at 317 Subway Blvd., Nevada, which he operated until the time of his death. As a boy, Greg was active in Boy Scouts and became an avid outdoorsman. Duck hunting was his favorite sport and he was known for sharing his skills and enthusiasm with younger hunters. Also, Greg worked actively in the 4-H program, as an advisor to the woodworking project. In addition, he provided the design and supervised the construction of many houses and buildings for family and friends. Greg was a 28 year member of BPOE Lodge #564, Nevada, as well as a member of Ducks Unlimited, Missouri State Teacher’s Association, International Association of Carpenter’s and Millrights, National Association of Accountants, the United States Army Reserve, and a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Nevada. Survivors include in addition to his wife, Maria, one son, John Crowl, Lamar, MO; mother, Wanda Arthur, Nevada; two sisters, Twila Earll and Renee Hampton, both of Nevada; two brothers, Jim Arthur, Cassville, MO, and Terry Arthur, Carthage, MO; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Following cremation, memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January, 6, 2001, at the First Christian Church, Nevada, with Pastor Eldon Shaw officiating. Friends may call now and until 1:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO. Family visitation and dinner will precede the services in the church parlor at 12:00 noon. Private committal services will be held at a later date. Helen Arnold

Helen Lee Arnold, age 90 of Nevada, formerly of Sheldon, passed away Thursday morning, December 13, 2001, at Moore- Few Care Center following an illness of several months. She was born January 20, 1911, in Sheldon, MO, to John E. Bartlett and Sarah Ann Smith Bartlett. She married Hugh Arnold on November 22, 1930, in Columbus, KS, and he preceded her in death on December 17, 1992. Mrs. Arnold was a graduate of the Sheldon High School Class of 1929 and was a lifelong resident of Sheldon. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, and active in senior citizen activities in Sheldon. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Survivors include two sons, Bob Arnold and his wife Joann, Jack Arnold and his wife, Phyllis, all of Nevada, MO; one daughter, Kay Sue Logan, Harrisonville, MO, five granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. Maxine Allen

Maxine E. Allen, 86, Coventry RI, formerly of Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, March 13, 2001 at Brookside Villa, Coventry, RI following a lengthy illness. She was born September 1, 1914 in Forrest City, AR to the late Thomas E. Cox and Elizabeth Danehower Cox. Mrs. Allen spent her childhood in Forrest City, AR and lived most of her adult life, from 1943 to 1991, in Nevada, MO. In 1991 She moved to RI and spent the remainder of her life there. While living in Nevada she was an active volunteer and member in numerous civic groups and organizations such as the 1955 Nevada Centennial committee, the former Nevada Youth Club board, PTA and Athenas, GFWC. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Nevada and served for two years as the coordinator of the midweek fellowship dinners. She had worked for Farm & Home Savings and Loan Association in Nevada as coordinator for the very popular employee lunch cafeteria. She retired from Farm & Home with accolades. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia F. Allen Writer, Charlestown, RI and Toni E. Allen Bosler, Nashville, TN; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laverne Futrell, Wynne, AR and Frances McPhail, Calhoun City, MS and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, one infant son, C. J. Allen II and six siblings preceded her in death. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill, MO with Dr. William Cox officiating. Jane Adams

Jane M. Adams, age 82 of Olathe, KS and formerly of Nevada passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at the Center for Long Term Care in Olathe ,KS following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 5, 1919 in Albert Lea, MN to Charles D. Hill and Violet Ruble Hill. She was married to Howard Runyan in 1937 and out of the union were born one son Tom Runyan who lives in Olathe, KS and one daughter Jan Larrabe of Wichita, KS. She later was married to Edward R. Adams on October 30, 1971 in Nevada and he preceded her in death in 1994. Jane was raised in Minnesota. Following High School she attended Cotty College and lived in Nevada until 1995. She has lived in Olathe, KS for the past six years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada. She managed the Vehicle Liscense Bureau in Nevada for 25 years. In addition to her two children, she is survived by five grandchildren, Laura Nichols, Wichita, KS, Dan Novak, Lawrence, KS, Lee Ann Lessent, Olathe, KS, Lisa Jane Harding, Paonia, CO, and Phillip Runyan of Mission, KS; three great grandsons, Tyler Lessent and Matthew Lessent of Olathe, and Justin Nichols of Wichita; and one sister, Virginia Sether, Billingham, WA. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with John Nichols officiating. Friends may call from now until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday before the service. Calvin Abele

Calvin Carl Abele, 76, Vernon County farmer and stockman, passed away 8:10 P.M. Friday , October 6, 2000 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Calvin was born in Urich, MO, April 27, 1924 to Otto W. Abele and Anna Schriefer Abele. When he was two years old, the family moved to Vernon County, MO. He attended El Dorado Springs High School, El Dorado Springs, MO. In early 1943 he entered the army and served as a paratrooper in the 17th and 101st Airborne Divisions across France, Germany and Belgium. He was injured in the Battle of the Bildge while in Germany and was awarded a number of medals including the Purple Heart. Calvin was married to Wanda Faye Smith April 26, 1946 in Appleton City, MO. Their more than 50 years together were spent on the family farm until 1996 when they moved to Nevada, MO due to his ill health. In his early years Calvin worked in Iowa on a farm and in Salina, KS on construction of the Smokey Hill Air Base. In later years he was a field man for the A.S.C.S., was on the Producers Grain Board of Directors for 10 years and on the County F.H.A. Committee. He was a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nevada and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities over the years. Calvin is survived by his wife, Wanda, of the home; one daughter, Myra Doehla and her husband Jim, Shawnee, KS; two sons, Ted and his wife Miriam, Belton, MO and Kent and his wife Kathy, rural Nevada, MO; their nine grandchildren, Joel Doehla and his wife, Sandy, Joy and Jamie Doehla; Justin, Ashley, Kelsey Able; and Erica, Tyler and Cole Abele; one step-granddaughter, Kim Simms and her husband Jerry and one great-grandson Casey; one brother,Vernon Abele, Lincoln, NE and his daughters Helen Snook and Glenna Graupman and their families; one brother-in-law, Raymond McVicker, Deerfield, MO and his three children Ardis Legleiter, Wiley McVicker and Karen Brockmeyer and their families. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elenora McVicker and a nephew, Arthur Abele. Calvin forever loved the Lord and his church, his family, the land and farming, his cattle and his neighbors and friends. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M.
