Stella Gordon, 82, died today. She was an executive government manager
and a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun.
She is survived by her son, Robert J. Gordon; a brother, Joe Corben of
Siesta Key, Florida; a sister, Florence Silver of New York, New York; seven
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral and burial were in New York.

Pearl Kahn Wolfson, died Sunday at Four Courts Senior Center. She was
a native of Russia and a member of: Keneseth Israel Congregation; Keneseth
Israel Sisterhood; Hadassah and Amit Women.
She is survived by: daughter, Rita Wolfson Goldstein; son, Stewart Wolfson;
daughter-in-law, Leona Wolfson; sister, Rose Schechter; brothers, David Kahn
and Edward Kahn of Michigan; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today at 2:00 pm with the interment

Manning J. "Jerry" Goldstein, 69, died Sunday at his residence.
He was formerly a sales associate with Waddell and Reed.
He is survived by his mother, Anne Hanelin Goldstein and a sister
Barbara R. Bailey.

Evelyn Beam, 91, died Thursday , October 24, in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was the former Evelyn Silver, a retired insurance secretary, a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star and The Temple and a
volunteer at Jewish Hospital.
She is survived by: a daughter, Sylvia Beam Harnesberger of Atlanta;
two sisters, Sylvia Chernoff of Minneapolis, Minnesota. and Hannah
Miller or Los Angeles, California; and a nephew, Dick Axilrod of Santa
Barbara, California.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 pm with burial in The Temple
Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin after 1:30 pm.

Jefferson Place Nursing home. She was a native of Brooklyn, New York..

Rochelle Najmy of Midland, Michigan and Cheryl Gilchrist of Louisville; brother,
Jack Gotlinsky of Bronx, New York; sister, Ann Graves of Goshen, New York; 5
grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Samuel S. Turk, 81, of Louisville died Wednesday, October 16, 2002. He was the
founder of Kentuckiana Refrigeration Company and for over 50 years was the owner.
He was a member of St. George Masonic Lodge #239 F&AM, Scottish Rite and Kosair
Temple.
Survivors include: his wife Gertrude Kleinman; son Dr. Lee Turk of Saltillo, Mississippi;
daughters, Phyllis Goldberg of St. Louis, Missouri and Sandra Berman of W. Bloomfield,
Michigan; sister, Sylvia Turk Weinberg; and 11 grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place at noon today at Keneseth Israel Cemetery.

Dr. Harold G. Eskind, 83, of Louisville died Friday at Jewish Hospital. He
was born in Providence, Kentucky and received his B.A. from Washington Univer-
sity, St. Louis, Missouri in 1941 and his M.D. from the University of Louisville
School of Medicine in 1944. He served in the Army in World War II at the 98th
General Hospital in Munich, Germany. He returned to Louisville in 1948 to start
a practice on Bardstown Road, until he retired in 1989. He "loved the practice of
medicine and all the people I cared for enormously." He was president of the Medical
Staff of the Jewish Hospital in 1965 and again in 1974. In retirement, he enjoyed
the company of his grandchildren and playing the violin.
He is survived by: his wife, the former Rosalie Harris; sons Andrew Harris Eskind
and his wife Danica, of Rochester, New York and Robert Wall Eskind and his wife,
Debora Kodish of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; daughter, Jean Eskind Kral and her
husband, Dr. Kenneth Kral; sister Mary Rose Kaplan of Miami Beach, Florida;
grandchildren, Meredith Kral, Adrienne Kral, Michelle Kral, Benjamin Eskind, Sarah
Kodish Eskind and Ruth Kodish Eskind.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

was a founding member.

Evette G. Joffe, 69, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Sunday October 6, 2002
at her residence. She was born in New York, New York and moved to Florida
from Costa Mesa, California in 1991. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by: her husband of 50 years, Jack Joffe; son, David of St.
Petersburg; two daughters, Mindy Walker of Louisville and Debbie Masters of
Lexington; a brother, Herbert Goldberg of Yonkers, New York; four grandchildren;
and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Florida on Tuesday, October 8 in St. Petersburg.
A graveside service will be held at Cave Hill Cemetery, 701 Baxter Avenue, today
at 1:00pm.

David L. Waterman, 84, died Monday at Jefferson Place, after a long illness.
He was a senior partner of the law firm Morris, Garlove, Waterman and
Johnson. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of The Temple and
the Standard Country Club. He served on the board of Jewish Hospital
for 25 years.
He is survived by: his wife, Marilyn Switow Waterman; a daughter, Ann S.
Waterman of Seekonk, Massachusetts; a granddaughter, Sandra Little
of Boston, Massachusetts; brothers, Irwin G. Waterman and Norton G.
Waterman.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm today at The Temple, 5101 U.S.
Highway 42. Visitation will begin after 1:00pm.

Patricia Waterman, 71, died Thursday evening at her residence. She was
a co-founder/owner of Etcetera. She was a past president of the Jewish
Hospital Auxiliary and of the Brandeis University Woman's Committee. She
was a supervisor for Jewish Hospital Guild, a member of the Jewish Hospital
Board, Vice chairman for Louisville and Jefferson County Human Relations
Commission, was a selected participant of Leadership Louisville, member of the
National Board of The Conference of Christians and Jews, the advisory board
for the Rape Relief Center, Rape Relief Advocate, a board member of Locust
Grove Historic Home and chairman of the gift shop, and a member of Alumni -
Leadership Louisville. She was a past board member of: National Council of
Jewish Women- Louisville Section; The Temple Sisterhood; Alfred Benet School
for Perceptually Handicapped; and Jefferson County Mental Health.
She is survived by: her husband, Irwin Waterman; son, Robert Waterman;
daughters, Linda Humphrey and Susan Sales of Boston, MA; sister, Judith Shipsky
of Fort Wayne, IN; Barree Hopfenmaier of Washington DC, Margo H. Allman
of Denver, CO; and grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Waterman, Ethan Sales,
Ben Humphrey, Emma Sales and Sophie Humphrey.
Funeral services will be held today at The Temple, 5101 US Highway 42 at 2:30pm

Alec Fox, 79, died Tuesday evening at Jewish Hospital. For 22 years he was a
salesman at Sun TV. He then worked at Winner Furniture as a salesman. He
was known to all his customers as "Sly Fox." He was also a member of Keneseth
Israel Congregation, Keneseth Israel Men's Club as well as a longtime past
president of the Men's Club.
He is survived by: his wife, Jean Fox; daughters, Joan Fox and Sherry Fischer;
sons, Kenny Fox and Larry Fox of Lexington, Kentucky; and brother, Bensie Fox;
and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm today, with interment
following in the

Sarah P. Erlich, 74, died Tuesday morning at Norton Hospice and Palliative
Care of Louisville Inpatient Unit. She was the former Sarah Podgursky. And
a native of Warsaw, Poland. She was a member of Keneseth Israel Congregation
and a seamstress.
Survivors include: daughter, Judy Erlich; brothers, Charles, Henry, Solomon
Josef Podgursky of Rio De Janiero and Louis Malinas; 5 nephews and 5 nieces.
Funeral services will be at 1:00pm today with visitation beginning after 12:00
noon. Interment

Norman Blieden, 93, died Thursday at Norton's Suburban Hospital. He was
the former manager of Richman Bros. Clothing Store. He was also a member of
B'nai Brith and The Temple.
He is survived by: his wife, Helen Blieden; daughter, Barbara Goldberg; 3 grand-
children and 6 great grandchildren.
A graveside funeral will be held at 3:00pm today at The Temple Cemetery, 2716
Preston Highway.

Isadore (Iggy) Ignatow, 87, died Sunday at Alliant Medical Pavilion.
He was the owner and operator of Mutual Market for thirty years. There-
after, he was a car salesman, often winning "salesman of the year" honors for:
V. V. Cooke Chevrolet, Payette Buick and Jim Cooke Buick , until he retired
at the age of 80.
He was a life-long member of Congregation Anshei Sfard, serving for many
years as its president and treasurer. He was also a member of B'nai Brith.
He is survived by: one daughter, Sondra (Herbert) Berman of Deerfield, IL;
one son, Dr. Stanley (Evelyn) Ignatow of Cincinnati, OH; five grandchildren,
Michael (Terri) Berman, Frances (Eric) Diamond, Jennifer Berman, Dr. Marcy
Ignatow, and Andrew Ignatow; two great grandchildren, Samuel Diamond and
Alisa Berman; and his friend, Reva Rosenberg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada, who died in 1995.
Funeral services will be held today at 4:00pm with visitation beginning after
3:00pm. Interment
will be in the Anshei Sfard Cemetery, 721 Locust Lane.
Contributions may be given to either the J. Graham Brown Cancer Research

The family will be receiving friends at 5100 U.S. Highway 42, after the funeral

Sylvia Schutz, of Louisville, Kentucky and Miami, Florida passed away
peacefully on September 5, 2002. She was a beautiful woman who just
celebrated her 94th birthday.
Beloved wife of the late William Schutz M. D., cherished mother of Benita
Berman (Gerald) and Frances Glick (Henry). A very special grandmother of
Gregory Berman (Ellyn) and Cara Berman Jacobson (Michael), Stephen (Clare)
Andrew (Helene), Michael (Deborah) Glick and Suzanne Glick First. Great
grandmother to her eleven cherished great grandchildren, Phoebe, Emily, Rachel,
Zoe, Alison, Jacob, Eli, Dylan, Amanda, Samuel and Zachary.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00am with visitation beginning after
10:00am. Burial will follow in The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway.

Ben Steinberg, 87, died Tuesday at Norton Healthcare. He was a retired co-
owner of the Abe Salas Furniture House. During World War II, Mr. Steinberg
served with pride and distinction in the United States Army. He was a member
of Keneseth Israel Congregation, St. George Masonic Lodge #239 F & AM, and
Keneseth Israel Men's Club.
He is survived by: his son, Jerald Steinberg; his "adopted" son, Harvey Kogan of
Skokie, Illinois; a sister, Esther Winick of Basalt, Colorado; and three grandchildren,
Justin, Meghan and Libby Steinberg. His wife, Sally Sadye Steinberg preceded him
in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm today with visitation beginning after
12:00 noon. Interment
will follow in the Keneseth Israel Cemetery, 719 Locust
Lane.
