Nathan Katz, 83,of Louisville, formerly of New York, died Monday, February 9, 2004
at Jewish Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1920 in Bronx NY to Lena and Aaron Katz, and had
been a resident of Louisville since 1993. A retired retail management consultant, Nathan was the founder-
president of the Nathan Katz Company in New York, NY. He was a graduate of City College of New
York. an Army veteran of World War II and with his wife, Helen worked as an economist for the Office
of Price Administration in Washington DC, during the administration of President Franklin Delano
Roosevelt. Mr. Katz was an avid golfer and stone sculptor whose work was featured in a show by
older artists at the Louisville Visuals Arts Association in 2001. He was a member of The Temple,
B'nai Brith and the Standard Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Helen
Meteliz; a daughter Edith Katz of Amsterdam, Netherlands; a son Dr. David Katz; daughter in-law
Barbara Myerson Katz; grandchildren Jonathan and Rebecca Katz; and many nieces, nephews, cousins
and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Herman Meyer & Son, 1338
Ellison Ave with burial in The Temple Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Janet and Joseph Myerson Performing Arts Fund at The
Temple, or to the Jewish National Fund (800-542-TREE).

Dr. Sheldon B. Schiller, 70, a Louisville Ophthalmologist and bandleader, died Monday, February
9th in south Florida after a courageous 27 year battle with coronary artery disease. Dr. Schiller underwent
his first of three open heart surgeries at Jewish Hospital on Louisville in 1976 at the age of 43. Dr. Schiller
was born on April 26, 1933, in Toronto Ontario, Canada. He was a 1954 graduate of the University of
Toronto Medical School. He moved to Louisville permanently in 1965 to practice ophthalmology and
raise his family. During his career, Dr. Schiller gave generously of his time and talent to others through
numerous medical missions to third world and under-privileged populations in Guatemala, Guyana and
Romania. He was especially proud of the volunteer 20-piece swing band called "The Doctors Band"
which he formed in 1967, entirely of physicians. He had a profound love of the game of squash and
a bold determination to enjoy his life, his family and his friends, which he developed and nurtured
joyfully throughout his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Denise; his three adoring
children, Robert, Pamela and Andrew; five grandchildren Jonah, Kevin, Samuel, Katie and Ethan,
who each had the opportunity to be touched by him. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Martin G.
Schiller of Louisville; sister Dorothy Badner of Toronto, Canada; and a multitude of loving nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Herman Meyer & Son 1338 Ellison
Ave. Interment Adath Jeshurun Cemetery. Visitation after noon Thursday. Memorial contributions

Joseph L. Lyon, 87, of Louisville died today at his Residence. He was a retired salesman
with Audubon Wholesale Liquors, an army veteran of World War II and a member of Keneseth
Israel Congregation, Jewish Community Center and Amit Women. He is survived b several cousins
The funeral will be held at 1 p. m. Sunday at Herman Meyer & Son 1338 Ellison Ave., with burial in
Keneseth Israel Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon Sunday. Memorial gifts may be made to
Keneseth Israel Congregation.

Boris Sheftelevich, 80, of Louisville died at Norton Suburban Hospital. He was a retired
mechanical engineer and a member of The Temple. He is survived by his wife , Nina;
son Eugene and Arkady of Minsk, Belarus; brother Uri of Israel and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday at Herman Meyer & Son, 1338 Ellison Ave. with
burial in The Temple Cemetery. visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday. Memorial gifts me be made
to The Temple.

Florence Shersky Stoler, 91, died Thursday at Jefferson Place.
She was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun and Hadassah.
Her survivors include: sons, Alan A. Stoler and his wife, Diana and Dr. Barry S. Stoler
and his wife, Sandra; sisters, Esther Kahn of Omaha, Nebraska and Minnie O'Koon; a
brother, David Shersky; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held today (Sunday) at 11:30 a.m. at the Adath Jeshurun
Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. today, at the
funeral home.
Memorial donations may be given to the donor's favorite charity.

Harold Rosen, 88, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2004.
He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on September 20, 1915, and was a resident of
Louisville for more than 60 years. Mr. Rosen, retired from his commercial real estate business
since 1980, was an active volunteer in many organizations and activities in the Louisville
community throughout his life. He was a past president and board member of The Temple and
a board member of the Ohio Valley Regional Council. He was instrumental in establishing the
Sister Cities program with five cities and also served as a campaign director for the Red Cross.
He was the founder and executive director of Pro-Power, an agency created to provide non-profit
organizations with retired persons' expertise. On the national level, he served as the assistant to
the president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He helped establish
KidCare ID in Kentucky and developed the model for many programs in all 50 states leading to
the identification of thousands of children throughout the US. He expanded the "Code Adam"
program to nearly 50,000 stores to provide a method of immediately recovering children abducted
in those stores. He received special recognition from the US Congress and also from the US
Attorney General's office for Excellence in Volunteerism due to his work with KidCare ID.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 61 years, Selma Schneider Rosen; a daughter,
Rubyanna Pollak (Richard Pollak); a son, Larry Rosen; grandchildren, Geoffrey Pollak (Gabrielle),
Lori Pollak Cox (Douglas), Stacey Caplan (Jeffrey) and Shawn Rosen; great-grandchildren,
Adam and Sophie Pollak and Ellie and Arthur Caplan; a daughter-in-law, Sue Rosen; and
a brother-in-law, Martin Schneider.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at The Temple, 5101 US Hwy. 42, where
visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,
Code Adam Fund, 699 Prince St., Alexandria, VA 22314.

Boris Elkin, 74, died Saturday morning at Jewish Hospital. He was a native of Russia
and a member of The Temple
He is survived by his son, Alex Elkin and his daughter, Inna Alexander, as well as
2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today (Monday) at 2:00pm with visitation beginning
after 1:00pm. Burial will follow in The Temple Cemetery, 2416 Preston Highway.
Memorial donations may be given to The Temple.

Miriam Caghan Davis, 85, of Louisville and Boca Raton, Florida, died in Florida
on Wednesday, January 21, 2004.
She was a member of The Temple, Hadassah and the National Council of
Jewish Women ' Louisville Section and the Temple Sisterhood.
She is survived by: her husband James G. Davis; son, Dr. Leslie Davis and his wife, Hannah
R. Davis; daughters, Bonnie Zwibelman and her husband Myron of St. Louis, Missouri and
JoAnne Johnson and her husband John, of Glencoe, Illinois; sisters, Evelyn Robbins and Leona
Genshaft, both of Canton, Ohio and Boca Raton, Florida; and grandchildren, Michael
Zwielman and Teresa Goebel, Erica and Kristopher Scott, Julie and Scott Devine, Rachel
H. Davis, Jennifer R. Johnson, Jeffrey R. Johnson, Natalie A. Davis and Julia Johnson; niece,
Judy Genshaft and her husband, Steve Greenebaum of Tampa, Florida; and nephew, Neil
Genshaft and his wife, Marie of Canton, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at The Temple, 5101 U.S. Highway
42 at 2:00p.m. Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in
The Temple Cemetery, 2416 Preston Highway.

Jane L. Weinberg, 62, died Friday. She was a resident of Louisville, Kentucky
and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She was a member of The National
Council of Jewish Women ' Louisville Section, The Temple and Standard
Country Club.
She is survived by: her husband, Martin S. Weinberg; daughter, Amy Weinberg
Olswang; brother, H. Richard Levy of Aurora, IL; sister, Margaret Levy of Los
Angeles, CA; parents, Henry and Grace Levy; and two grandchildren, Louis
Manuel Olswang and Chloe Evelyn Olswang.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at The Temple, 5101 US Highway 42.
Visitation will begin after 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in The Temple Cemetery.

Irvin M. Krebs, 96, died Thursday, January 15, 2004.
He was a retired pharmacist and owner of the old Krebs Model Drugs at 2917
Brownsboro Road. He was also a member of Alpha Zeta Omega Fraternity
and The Temple.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Krebs and his wife Shirley.
He was the beloved father of Kenneth Krebs and his wife, Sandy of Chicago,
Illinois, and loving grandfather of Mark Krebs.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Sunday) with visitation
beginning after 1:00 p.m.
Memorial gifts may go to J. Graham Brown Cancer Research Center.

Jesse Newman, 88, died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital East
He was a retired public information officer for the United States
Selective Service System, having served at its agency in Frankfort, KY,
where he published a monthly state paper. He was a founding member of
Temple Shalom and a member of Temple Shalom Men's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Reva Hymson Newman; sister-in-law, Pat Edelstein;
brother-in-law, Dan Hymson; nieces, Lucy Edelstein and Rita Steinberg of
Indianapolis, Indiana; and nephew, Alex Edelstein.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. today (Friday). There will be no visitation.
Interment will be in the Cave Hill Cemetery, Temple Shalom Section.

Selma Merenbloom died Thursday morning. She was the former Selma Goodman,
a member of The Temple and the National Council of Jewish Women-Louisville
Section and a life member of The Temple Sisterhood and Hadassah.
She is survived by her husband, Carl S. "Buddy" Merenbloom, to whom she
provided custodial care for 23 years after he suffered a disabling head injury in
a motor vehicle accident. She is also survived by her sons, Dr. Paul Merenbloom
and his wife, Bev L. and Bruce A. Merenbloom and his wife, Betsy K. of Raleigh,
North Carolina, and grandchildren, Carson H., Benjamin E., Noah G. and Jonathan A.
Merenbloom.
Her funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. today (Friday) with visitation beginning after
2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Temple Cemetery, 2416 Preston Highway.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Temple, the B'nai Tzedek Fund at the Jewish
Community Federation or to the donor's favorite charity.
