Harry H. Simon, 95, of Louisville, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Four Courts Senior
Center. He was a retired accountant, a member of Anshei Sfard Congregation and
the National Association of Accountants and a former member of the Kentucky Bar
Association.
He is survived by his nieces, Phyllis S. Fine and Beverly S. Levine of Cincinnati, Ohio,
and nephews, Barry and Mark Simon, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday (today) with interment
in Anshei Sfard
Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday.

Helen Yoffe Zachariah, 87, died Saturday. She was a member of Keneseth
Israel Congregation.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie C. Zachariah.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Martha Yoffe; brother-in-law, Bernard
"Bensie" Fox; seven nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held today (Sunday) at the Keneseth Israel Cemetery,
719 Locust Lane, at 2:00pm.

Kenneth J. Michelson, 64, died Friday. He was a retired mechanical engineer.
He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Nygren of Los Angeles, California,
and Mona Michelson; mother, Idah Michelson; sisters, Sandra Smith of Cincin-
nati, Ohio, and Arlene Cohen of Calver City, California; brother, Harry Alan
Michelson and his wife, Jordan; and one grandchild.
His funeral will be held at 3:00pm today (Sunday) with interment
in Agudath
Achim Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:00pm.

Harvey Rooks, 74, formerly of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Marblehead, MA
died on Friday of prostate cancer.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
He leaves behind his sons, David (Mark Philibert) and Benjamin (Barbara); daughter
Gaylia (Joe Rooks-Rapport); grandchildren, Yael and Lev Rooks-Rapport; mother,
Nancy; brothers, George (Ruth) and Lewis (Beverly); and a sister-in-law, Norma.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm today (Sunday) at 2:00pm at The Temple,
5101 US Highway 42. Visitation will begin after 1:00pm. Shiva will be observed from
7:00-9:00pm Sunday thru Tuesday at the home of Rabbi Gaylia Rooks.
Memorial donations may go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or to Systematic

Herman M. Waldman, 98, died on Wednesday at Baptist Hospital East.
He was a retired pharmacist and owner of Waldman Drugs at 1st and Oak. He
was also a member of Keneseth Israel Congregation.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Kaplin and her husband Eddie; one son,
Alan Waldman and his wife Carol of Cottonwood, Arizona; a sister, Bess Harris;
7 grandchildren, Robin and Tom Hedderich, Shellye Kaplin, Leslye and Dennis
Dicken, Randy Waldman and Larry Waldman; 7 great grandchildren; and care-
givers, Anna Short, Annie Williams and Betty McGonnell.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 3:00pm. Visitation will begin today
after 2:00pm. Burial will follow in the Keneseth Israel Cemetery, 719 Locust
Lane.

Hillel Lee Hammer, 69, of Louisville died Tuesday, June 15, 2004. He was an
artist, an independent carpet contractor and an Air Force veteran of the Korean
War.
Survivors include a son David Michael Hammer and his wife Susie of St.
Paul, MN; a daughter Judith Hammer Bradley and her husband, Dan; a sister,
Aliza Smith of Dallas, TX; a brother, Jacob Hammer of Annapolis, MD; and three
grandchildren.

Joseph "Papa Joe" Seligman, 98, of Louisville, died Friday June 18, 2004. He was a
retired former co-owner of the old Strode Furrier and a member of Keneseth Israel
Congregation. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Selma.
He is survived by
a daughter Carolyn Salzman and husband Farrell of Port St. Lucie, FL; a son, Edwin
Seligman of Houston, TX; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at noon Sunday with burial in Keneseth Israel Cemetery.

Sylvia W. Brooks, 89, of Louisville died Sunday. She was the retired co-owner of
Uncle Miltie's Pawn Shop, the former treasurer and a member of the Board of Trustees
of The Temple and a member of The Temple Sisterhood and the National Council of
Jewish Women-Louisville section.
She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Brooks and her sisters Ruth Stern
and Julia Klein.
She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Miller and husband David , of Chestnut Hill,
MA.
The funeral will be held ay 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Temple 5101 US Hwy. 42, with
burial in The Temple Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Temple.

Rebekkah (Beckie) Impellizzeri, 20, died on Wednesday. She was an EMT with
Mercy Ambulance Service. She was also an artist and an avid painter.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Impellizzeri.
Survivors include: her father, John Impellizzeri; sister, Helen Impellizzeri; and brother,
Joseph Impellizzeri.
A memorial service will be held today (Sunday) at 1:00pm. Visitation will begin after
12:00 noon Sunday.

Alan Ballew, 62, of Fairfield, California, passed away Monday, May 31, 2004,
while at work. He was born in Malden, MA, and grew up in Paducah, Kentucky,
where the family settled in his childhood. He attended Murray State University
and was an award-winning marksman on the MSU rifle team. Mr. Ballew served
honorably in the United States Army. He had been an active member of Congregation
Shaare Emeth in St. Louis, MO, holding various offices in the brotherhood.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.E. Ballew, and a brother, Leonard Ballew.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Crider Ballew; a son, David Ballew,
daughter-in-law, Mary, and granddaughter, Paulena, all of St. Louis; a daughter,
Jennifer Ballew of Vacaville, CA; his mother, Elsie Ballew of Louisville and formerly
of Paducah; brothers, Ervin Ballew of Dallas, TX, and Michael Ballew of St. Louis;
sisters, Suzanne Ballew of Chicago, IL, and Dr. Laurie Ballew of Louisville; and
many nieces and nephews. Other survivors in Kentucky include his mother-in-law,
Margaret Crider, and brothers-in-law and their wives, Carroll and Fay Crider and
Allen and Karen Parrent.
His funeral service was held Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Bryan-Baker Funeral Home in
Fairfield, with Rabbi Steve Vale officiating. A graveside service and burial will be
held at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday), June 8, 2004, at Temple Israel Cemetery in Paducah.

Dr. Martin Zukof, 76, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home. He was a native of
Brooklyn, NY, where he graduated from Stuyvesant High School and attended
City College of New York, graduating with a master's degree in education. He
later attended the University of Louisville Medical School and served his internship
at Philadelphia (PA) General Hospital. He served in the US Army during the
Korean War, where he served with the ambulance corps. He was a retired family
physician, having practiced medicine in the Okolona area for over 40 years. Dr.
Zukof was a founding partner of Family Practice Associates. He was a life member
of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians,
Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians, Kentucky Medical Association,
Jefferson County Medical Society and Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity.
He was a past president of the medical staff at Norton Audubon Hospital, served
on the board of the Kentucky Mental Health Association and, upon retirement,
became an active board member at The Temple. He was an avid tennis player, a
loyal U of L sports fan and an active member of the Romeos.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Harry Zukof, and a daughter,
Dr. Debra Zukof.
He is survived by his loving wife, the former Denise Ferguson; daughters, Shelley
Kahn (Marshall), Amy Haskell (Rodney) of Louisville and Julie Latzko of Atlanta,
Georgia; a son-in-law, Judge Barry Willett (Trinity); a stepson, David Self, a brother,
Dr. Walter Zukof (Helene), and a nephew, Alan Zukof, all of Louisville; and a dear
cousin, Zena Schiff of Orlando, Florida. He was extremely proud of his 12 grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Sunday), with burial following in The
Temple Cemetery, 2614 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Rosa Borowitz Pearlman, 95, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Four Courts Senior Center.
She was a passionate teacher for 35 years in the Louisville public schools and held
special fondness for McFerran Elementary, where she taught for 13 years. She was
recognized by The Courier-Journal for her positive contribution to the integration of the
Jefferson County public schools. She was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun
and served two terms as president of the Adath Jeshurun Sisterhood. She was also a
member of the National Council of Jewish Women Louisville Section, the Jewish
Hospital Guild and Four Courts Senior Center. "She had a long full life blessed by
family and many dear, lifelong friends. A gracious hostess, Rosa always loved
entertaining friends and family and inarguably made the best cherry pie in the universe.
Rosa was beloved by all who knew her and was a strong and nurturing presence in the
lives of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers and their spouses,
and her adoring nieces and nephews." She was a devoted wife, for 57 years, to her
husband, Milton, who preceded her in death.
She was a tender and loving mother to daughters, Sharon Marx (Gerald), Gail Sidney and
Janet Levitan (Alan), all of whom will miss her dearly. "Grandma Rosie" will be missed
by her grandchildren, Adam and wife Lisa, Peter and wife Ilene, Jason, Ross, Brooke and
husband Chris, Abraham and Benjamin; great grandchildren, Rian, Olivia, Amanda, Michael
and baby Charlotte; brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris and Lil Borowitz and Joseph and
Babe Borowitz; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Pearlman.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday), with interment
in Adath
Jeshurun Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway. Visitation will be after 12:30 p.m.
Rosa's daughters request that donations be made to the Lillian and Morris Borowitz
Scholarship Fund at Adath Jeshurun Synagogue or to Four Courts Senior Center.
