Bernard 'Bernie' Rubenstein, 86, died Sunday at Baptist Hospital East. He was a retired pharmacist and former owner of Bernie's Strathmoor Pharmacy and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun, B'nai Brith, St. George Masonic Lodge, Jefferson County Academy of Pharmacy, the American Legion and The Romeo's.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane Levine and Linda Fox of Skokie, IL; grandchildren, Shannon Levine and Elise and Jeffrey Fox of Skokie; and special friend, Raema Green.
A graveside service will be held on Monday at the Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway, at 4:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be given to the Jay Levine Youth Fund at The Jewish Federation of Louisville.

Sidney Davidson, 82, died Thursday, November 04, 2004. He was a retired pharmacist with the old Sherman Drugs at 18th & Market and most recently with Rite Aid. He was also a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Unrich Davidson; daughter, Betsy Monen (Mickey) of Indianapolis, IN; son, Dr. Gary Davidson (Sharon), optometrist; two grandchildren, Becky Monen and Eric Davidson.
Funeral services will be on Sunday (today) at 2:00pm, with interment in The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm Sunday.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the J. Graham Brown Cancer Research Center or to the American Heart Association.

Thursday, 11/4/2004 - 20 Heshvan 5765
Florence Monfried Kerman passed away at home on Tuesday,
November 2, 2004.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Edwin Kerman; 2 sons, Mark
Kerman (Lucy) and Dr. Kenneth Kerman (Sylvia) of Boca Raton,
Florida; sisters, Shirley Garner (Lionel), Carolyn Wolf (Simon) and
Joyce Preiser (Stanley) of Boca Raton, Florida; and grandsons, Lance
Kerman and Paulie Kerman.
The funeral will be a graveside service for family and friends on
Thursday, November 4th (today) at 1:00 p.m. at Adath Jeshurun
Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway.

David Wall, 79, of Louisville, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004. He was
a past president of Simon Furniture Store in Frankfort, Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rebecca Simon; son, Joseph Wall
(Bianca) of Louisville; daughter, Julie (Mark) Gutkin of Toronto, Canada;
three grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Thursday), at Adath
Jeshurun Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway.
Memorial gifts may be made to Celia Starr Simon Scholarship Fund at
Congregation Adath Jeshurun.

Phyllis Sigal, of Louisville, Kentucky died October 19, 2004. She was a
native of Youngstown, Ohio. She moved to Louisville several years ago to
be near her daughter and her family.
Phyllis was a graduate of the Rayen High School and received a bachelor's
degree in social work from Ohio University. She was a past member of
Rodef Sholom Temple, Hadassah, Pioneer Women and her college sorority,
Phi Sigma Sigma.
Her husband Bernard preceded her in death.
She leaves a daughter, Linda Snyder, a son-in-law, Steven Snyder and one
granddaughter.

Selma Streng, formerly of Louisville, died in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida,
on Friday Oct. 15, 2004.
She is survived by her daughter Judy (Barry) Zisook of Miami, Florida;
three grandchildren, Jay (Marie) Friedstein, Jeff (Lisa) Friedstein and John
Friedstein; three great grandchildren, Max, Carly and Brittany Friedstein;
and her special friend, Shelly Friedstein.
A graveside service will be held at noon in The Temple Cemetery, 2716
Preston Highway, today (Tuesday).

Tobye Goldberg, 92, died Wednesday at Four Courts Senior Center.
She was a retired teacher and a member of The Temple.
Her son York Goldberg preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley (David) Bailen; nephews,
Barry Bailen of Olympia, Washington and James (Sandy) Bailen; and
several great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held today (Sunday) at 1:00 p.m. at Adath
Jeshurun Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway.

Hyman "Hy" Friedlander, 95, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2004. He
was a member of The Temple, a retired tool and die maker and a native
of New York.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Friedlander; a daughter, Harriette
Friedlander and her husband Alan Bernstein; a son, David Friedlander
of Nevis, New York; sister, Sarah Barrow; and two grandchildren, Sarah
and Rebecca Bernstein.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. today (Friday), at
The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway.
Memorial donations may be given to the donor's favorite charity.

Nathan Gutfreund, 94, died on Friday, October 1. He was a former general
manager of an industrial laundry plant in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Gutfreund; a daughter, Susan (Robert)
Waterman; and grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Waterman.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Sunday) at The
Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway.
Memorial donations may be given to the Pat Waterman Nursing Scholarship
Fund at Jewish Hospital, The Temple or to the donor's favorite charity.

Adele L. Hammel, 84, died at her home on Tuesday, September 28.
She was a member of The Temple, Women of Reform Judaism and
the National Council of Jewish Women - Louisville Section.
She is survived by her son, John L. Ornstein and his wife, Marlene;
daughter, Nancy O. Berlo and her husband, James of Alpharetta, Georgia;
grandchildren, Staci and Pat Ogburn, Richard and Angie Ornstein and
Jenifer and Brent Russell, all of Louisville, and Michelle Berlo and John
and Dawn Berlo, all of Alpharetta; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at The Temple, 5101 US Highway 42
at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. at The Temple. Burial
will follow the service at The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Herbert Waller Chapel Fund at The
Temple.

Sadie Bornstein, 86, of Louisville, died Monday, September 20, 2004.
She was a retired salesperson and a member of Keneseth Israel Congregation,
its Sisterhood and its Men's Club as well as Hadassah.
She is survived by two sisters, Minnie Shavinsky and Miriam Broderson,
and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Keneseth
Israel Cemetery, 719 Locust Lane.
Memorial gifts may be made to Keneseth Israel Congregation.

Tuesday, 9/21/2004 - 6 Tishrei 5765
Evelyn G. Meyer, 94, of Louisville, died Monday.
She was a retired freelance writer for The Courier-Journal's old Rotogravure
Magazine. The late Judge Lawrence S. Grauman requested her to write various
series of articles on Kentucky statutes, with respect to the adjudication of
incompetence. After her articles were written, the statutes were amended.
She was a member and former trustee of The Temple and its sisterhood, a former
board member and past vice-president of the National Council of Jewish Women-
Louisville Section, a past president of the old Jewish Ladies Benevolent Society
of Louisville, a former board member of the old Jewish Hospital Guild and a volunteer
at Jewish Hospital for 30 years.
She was also a former board member of the old Council of Retarded Citizens. One
of her special projects was typing Braille at the Kentucky School for the Blind. She
enjoyed writing scripts and parodies for plays in various service agencies. She was
a former medical assistant for Dr. Harry S. Andrews, served as an activities hostess
for soldiers during World War II at the old Nichols Hospital and was a former
secretary for The Temple Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J. Harold Meyer.
She is survived by a son, Harry Lee Meyer and his wife, Debby E.; two sisters, Harriet
G. Kessel and Cecil L. Wayne of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Andrew Meyer
and his wife, Page Sampson, of Glenridge, New Jersey, and Thomas Meyer of Los
Angeles, California.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) at The Temple, 5101 US
Hwy. 42, with burial in The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway. Visitation will
begin after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at The Temple.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Temple, Hospice of Louisville or to the donor's
favorite charity.
