MOBILE COUNTY

Grace Britton
Grace Britton, a homemaker, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 94.
Mrs. Britton was a native of Waynesboro, Miss., and resident of Mobile.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nelda Britton; and a granddaughter, Rebecca F. Britton both of Mobile.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Philadelphus Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Methodist Cemetery.

Isaac Booth
Isaac Booth, a native of Escambia County and resident of Mobile, died Wednesday . He was 84.
Booth was a cab driver for Booth's Taxi and a member of the Church of God Prophecy.
He is survived by two sons, Willie Booth of Brewton and Robert Booth of Excel; four daughters, Edna Powers, Dorothy Rolin, Mary Simmons and Joyce Mosley, all of Atmore; one brother, Cecil Booth of Atmore, one sister, Vera Kappo of Shreveport, La.; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Bowman Cemetery.

Sydney H. Fuller
Sydney H. "Scottie" Fuller, a native of Hull, East Yorkshire, England, and a resident of Mobile, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 70.
He served in the British army, Second Battalion of the Coldstream Guards, for 14 years; served with distinction during two tours in Malaysia from 1949 to 1952, were he was wounded and received a service medal; and was a military guard at Buckingham Palace.
Fuller also was a professional butler, working in the private and corporate sectors, and residing in Europe during his career.
He is survived by his wife, Renee Joyce Woodham Fuller of Mobile; four children, Richard William Paul Fuller of Birmingham, Hugh Francis Fuller of Mobile, Stuart Russell Fuller of Semmes and Andrew David Fuller of Mobile; one brother; one sister; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. Arrangements were handled by Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.

Myra F. Pearson
Myra Fluker Pearson, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 47.
She is survived by three children, Danny Fluker and Carlos D. Pearson, both of Mobile, and Gloria Pearson of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, John Burroughs of Mobile, Lloyd Burroughs of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Eddie Fluker Jr. of Foley; seven sisters, Melva Howard, Marcella McMeans, Sandra Jenkins, all of Mobile, Teresa Thompson of Theodore, Juanita Brockinton and Helen Burton both of Baltimore, and Eva Reynolds of Altus AFB, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, followed by services at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Robert L. Scott Sr.
Robert L. Scott Sr., a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
Scott, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, was a member of the Seafarers International Union and Knights of St. Peter Claver.
He is survived by his wife, Olivette Teresa Clark Scott; and two sons, Richard Scott and Robert Scott Jr.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.

MONROE COUNTY

Sallie G. Flowers
FRISCO CITY — Sallie Griggers Flowers, a native of Goodway, Ala., and resident of Frisco City, died Monday. She was 93.
Mrs. Flowers was a member of Megargel Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by nine daughters, Frauline Harrison of Bay Minette, Dorothy Brooks of Frisco City, Voncile Frizell of Hope Hull, Ala., Wanda Stuckey of Megargel, Ala., Betty Jean Mullins, Billie Riley and June Norrell, all of Goodway, Sara Jaye of Atlanta, and Peggy Sellars of Gulf Shores; and three sisters, Nellie Ree Hendrix of Goodway, and Corean Boone and Zetta Starczewski, both of Mobile.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Megargel Assembly of God Church in Megargel, with interment in Sowell Old Field Cemetery in Goodway. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

James E. Williams
FRUITDALE — James Edward Williams, a general laborer in the timber industry, died Tuesday. He was 47.
Williams, a native of Mississippi and resident of Fruitdale, was a member of South Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sisters, Judy Wright of Butler, Ann Brown of Fruitdale and Faye Platt of Stateline, Miss.; and three brothers, Joseph Eugene Williams Jr. and Nelson Williams both of Fruitdale, and Raymond Hutchins of Quincy, Miss.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at South Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Grace-Williams Cemetery in Fruitdale. Arrangements are with Lathan Funeral Home.

MOBILE COUNTY

Arloene B. Becklund
Arloene Bowles Becklund, who had taught at local colleges, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 85.
Mrs. Becklund, a native of Groton, S.D., was a longtime Mobile resident.
She began her teaching career at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1958. She moved to Mobile in the early 1960s and began teaching at the University of South Alabama, then moved to Spring Hill College in 1979, where she remained until 1994.
She was Alabama Librarian of the Year in 1988 and was named to the Alabama Library Hall of Fame in 1993.
The 1932 valedictorian of Groton High School received her bachelor of science degree in English with high distinction from the University of Minnesota in 1936. She received her master's degree in library science in 1958 from Rosary College.
She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority at the University of Minnesota and was involved with the local chapter, Kappa Alpha Theta.
Survivors include her son, Jack B. Becklund of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Mobile Public Library.

William T. Hagans
William Thomas Hagans, a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, died Thursday at the age of 80.
A native of Anniston, Ala., Hagans was a longtime resident of the Mobile area. He was a member of H.E. Blackwell Lodge No. 899 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, June B. Hagans of Creola; four daughters, Jeanette Thompson of Wilmer, Annette Walker of Creola, Tommie Jean Lee of Semmes and Judy Gregg of Saraland; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, where services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Sue Nicholas Fund at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Luther M. Mayfield
CITRONELLE — Luther Melvin Mayfield, a salesman, died Wednesday at his home. He was 69.
Mayfield, a native of Dora, Ala., was a resident of Citronelle. He had worked for more that 20 years with the Carnation Milk Co.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Evelyn Mayfield of Citronelle; four daughters, Carol Fotopolous of Tampa, Fla., Paulette Hill and Melanie Sims, both of Citronelle, and Connie Singleton of Orlando, Fla.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday in Old town Cemetery in Evergreen, Ala.

Lee A. Myles Sr.
Lee Ardis Myles Sr., a native of Georgianna and resident of Mobile, died Saturday.
He is survived by four children, Patricia Drayton of Plainfield, N.J., Betty Myles of Orange, N.J., Lee Ardis Myles Jr. of Prichard and Jacqueline Myles of East Orange, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by services at 11 a.m., at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Stockton. Arrangements are with Reese Funeral Home in Prichard.

Eugene Williams Jr.
Eugene Williams Jr., a native of Marengo County and resident of Mobile, died June 4 at the age of 58.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Williams; four sons; three stepsons; two stepdaughters; one brother; three sisters; and 18 grandchildren.
A wake is scheduled for at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Ararat Baptist Church on Washington Boulevard in Theodore, with services set for 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Hodge's Funeral Chapel.

BALDWIN COUNTY

Aurie Howard
DAPHNE — Aurie Alma Watts Howard, who had been a caterer in the Chicago area, died Tuesday in Fairhope. She was 92.
Mrs. Howard, a native of Carney, Ala., was a resident of Daphne since 1996. For more than 40 years, she had lived in Chicago, where she worked as a cook and caterer. She worked for more than 25 years at the Beach and Tennis Club of Chicago in South Shore.
She also held a cosmetology license.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Englewood, Ill., for many years, and was the first woman elected to the church council.
Survivors include two daughters, Aretelia Watts and Aurie A. Pennick; three sisters, Velma Calhoun, Victoria Dates and Helen Bryant; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Another memorial service is set for June 27 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Englewood.

MONROE COUNTY

Wilbert L. Hurry
MONROEVILLE — Wilbert Lee Hurry, who had worked as a beaming operator for Monsanto, died June 3 at his home. He was 72.
The Monroe County native was a resident of Monroeville. He was a member of Antioch No. 3 Church and Masonic Lodge No. 904 of Monroeville.
Survivors include his mother, Sinnie Hurry of Pensacola; one son, Tom Kidd of Monroeville; one brother, Clifton Hurry of Monroeville; two sisters, Arjewl Hill and Sarbia Hunter, both of Pensacola; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch No. 3 Church, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Arrangements are with Jones Funeral Home of Monroeville.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Zonie Dearmon
FRANKVILLE — Zonie Dearmon, a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Frankville, Ala., died Thursday at a hospital in Washington County. She was 92.
Miss Dearmon was a native of Wayne County, Miss., and a resident of Washington County.
Among her survivors is her sister, Agnes Caten of Laton Hill, Ala.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Phillips Funeral Home in Millry, Ala. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Frankville, with burial in Jones Hill Cemetery in Copeland, Ala.

Catherine L. Bishope
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Catherine Lowery Bishope, a resident of Anchorage and formerly of Thomasville, Ala., died Saturday at the age of 89.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Martin of Jackson, Miss.; her son, Robert Bishope of Anchorage; two sisters, Oleta Ingram of Thomasville and Bruce Thompson of Cookeville, Tenn.; two brothers, Bobby Lowery of Lamison, Ala., and Claude Lowery of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville. Burial was in Choctaw Corner Cemetery.
