MOBILE COUNTY
Mack Dunklin
Mack "Dunk" Dunklin, a retired employee of International Paper Co., died Monday at a local hospital. He was 81.
The Calvert, Ala., native was a resident of Mobile and a member of Lily Baptist Church, where he served as senior usher.
Survivors include six children, Edward Nettles of Mount Vernon, Ala., Rose King and Gwendolyn Woods, both of Rochester, N.Y., Delores Kidd, Arshall Dunklin and Mack Dunklin Jr., all of Mobile; 27 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after noon on Saturday at Life Church of Mobile, 8701 Zeigler Blvd., with visitation from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. services. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery.
Elizabeth Gassaway
Elizabeth Ann Gassaway, a lifelong resident of Mobile County, died Wednesday at a local nursing facility at the age of 51.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Gassaway and David Gassaway, both of Mobile; three daughters, Stephanie Gassaway, Bonnie Diane Gassaway and Christina Gassaway, all of the Mobile area; and a brother, Buddy Dees of Citronelle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Serenity Funeral Home, where services are set for noon Friday. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Jesse L. Jordan
CITRONELLE — Jesse Lemuel Jordan, a retiree of Ciba Geigy, died Monday at a local hospital.
Jordan, 77, a native of Buckatunna, Miss., was a resident of Citronelle. He had worked in the maintenance department at Ciba Geigy for 22 years.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was affiliated with the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Jordan of Citronelle; three sons, H. Jesse Jordan of Bay Minette, and Michael Joe Jordan and John Burge Jr., both of Citronelle; three daughters, Susan E. Jordan, Heather M. Jordan and Vickey Burge, all of Citronelle; three brothers, Robert Frank Jordan of Starke, Fla., Sam Jordan of Jasco, Ark., and Bud Jordan of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Esther Flannigan of Hilton Head, S.C., Geneva "DD" Long of Grove Hill, Ala., and Ida Pearl Brown of Waynesboro, Miss.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle, where services are set for 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle.
Ernestine McDuffie
Ernestine McDuffie, who had served as secretary of Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 1, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 57.
A lifelong Mobilian, Ms. McDuffie spent more than 27 years as secretary of the church, where she was a lifetime member and a member of the missionary society.
Survivors include her brothers, Robert T. McDuffie Jr. and Ernest L. McDuffie, both of Mobile.
Viewing will be from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, and after 5 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 1, 409 Lexington Ave. Visitation will be at 6 p.m., and services will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 8 a.m. Saturday in Whispering Pines Cemetery.
George D. O'Shea Sr.
George Daniel O'Shea Sr., a retired officer with the Mobile Police Department, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 63.
O'Shea, a lifelong resident of Mobile County who attended McGill Institute, joined the police force in November 1985 and worked in the Uniformed Services Division. In July 1997, he retired from the Criminal Investigations Division as a burglary detective.
During his service, he received a number of commendations, including the Meritorious Service Award in 1991 and the Commander's Citation in 1995.
He also retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of sergeant first-class. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of a Bronze Star.
O'Shea was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Baxter O'Shea of Semmes; one son, George D. O'Shea Jr. of Salado, Texas; two daughters, Patricia M. Claffin of Rhinelander, Wis., and Tina M. Kirksey of Semmes; his mother, Alice O'Shea of Mobile; two brothers, Fredrick M. O'Shea Jr. of Houma, La., and Patrick J. O'Shea of Semmes; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, where the rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Minnie Sullivan
Minnie Viola Goldman Sullivan, a member of Myers Memorial Baptist Church, died Tuesday at the age of 96.
Mrs. Sullivan, a Washington County native, lived in Chickasaw. She had been a resident of the Mobile area for 64 years.
Survivors include seven daughters, Thelma G. Sullivan Sanderson of Virginia Beach, Va., Gloria J. Sullivan Touchstone of Chickasaw, Betty J. Sullivan Barnes of Wilmer, Yvonne Sullivan Hamrick of Pasadena, Texas, Elver Lee Sullivan Willard of Theodore, Minnie V. Sullivan Smith of Turnerville, and Doris M. Sullivan Black of Wilmer; six sons, Joseph Ernest Sullivan, Marvin V. "Pee Wee" Sullivan and Elmer Lee Sullivan, all of Eight Mile, Wilbert W. Sullivan of Camden, S.C., Jesse H. Sullivan of Deer Park, Ala., and Leslie Leon Sullivan of Deer Park; a brother, Eli Goldman of Saraland; 48 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, where services are set for 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Clearwater Cemetery in Wagarville.

Dorothy Mae Jones
BAY MINETTE — Dorothy Mae Jones, who had worked as a seamstress with Simplex Industries, died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 62.
Mrs. Jones, a resident of Bay Minette, was a native of Mississippi. She was a member of Wayne Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Fey of Bay Minette; three sons, Jimmy Jones of Dixons Mills, Ala., Alvin Jones of Bay Minette and O'Neal Jones of Thomasville, Ala.; a sister, Dena Fay Allen of Laurel, Miss.; three brothers, Junior Ray Harris of Laurel, Clint Harris of Mobile and William Harris of Tuscaloosa; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville. Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Friday in Shiloh Cemetery in Dixons Mills.

Effie Wilson
WAGARVILLE — Effie Jane Lynes Wilson, who spent 37 years as a teacher, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 88.
Mrs. Wilson, a Washington County native, lived in Wagarville and was a member of Wagarville Baptist Church.
She graduated from Livingston State Teachers College and the University of Alabama.
Her memberships included Delta Kappa Gamma and the Washington County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her daughter, Nyla Wilson Smith; two brothers, Wilbert Lynes of Wagarville and Ben Lynes of Clearwater, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary at Wagarville Baptist Church, with graveside services at 4 p.m. in the church cemetery. Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to local school libraries.

Ruby Clark
QUITMAN, Miss. — Ruby Clark, a native and former resident of Choctaw County, Ala., died Tuesday. She was 88.
Mrs. Clark, a resident of Quitman, was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Aubrey Clark of Laurel, Miss., and Dudley Clark of Myrtlewood, Ala.; four daughters, Dorothy Johnson of Needham, Ala., Annette Smith of Prattville, Ala., Syble Boykin of Quitman and Kathy Glover of Saraland; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler, Ala. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Bogaloosa Baptist Church, with burial in Brightwater Cemetery in Needham, Ala.

Dwight A. Jordan
Dwight A. Jordan, who was self-employed as a commercial waterproofer, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 53.
Jordan was a native of Plateau and resident of Mobile.
Survivors include his son, Robert Dwight Jordan of Semmes; two brothers, Robert Jordan and David Harrison, both of Mobile; six sisters, Clara Richardson, Marie Huggins, Francis Hazel and Delores Harrison, all of Mobile, Bessie Lacey Livingston of Chickasaw, and Grace Harrison Pipkin of Semmes; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Serenity Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
James Lindsey Sr.
FAIRVIEW - James Lindsey Sr., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, died Friday morning at his home. He was 93.
Lindsey, who had been employed at various area businesses, was a native Mobilian and a resident of Fairview. He had been a Seabee while in the Navy.
He was a member of Faith Temple Holiness Church in Wilmer, where he often preached on Wednesdays during the past several years.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Lindsey of Fairview; four children; two adopted children; four stepchildren; 28 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The wake will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Serenity Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Floyd T. McConnell
Floyd T. McConnell, a retiree of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, and one of the founders of the Mobile Botanical Gardens, died Thursday in a hospital in Baldwin County. He was 83.
McConnell, a lifelong Mobilian, had served as chief legal counsel with the Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1972. A U.S. Navy veteran, McConnell graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1939.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Michael John McConnell of Foley and John Mixon Milling of Montgomery; a daughter, Cynthia Milling Peneguy of Mobile; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. today in Pine Crest Cemetery with Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
Amos Owen Pilgrim
Dr. Amos Owen Pilgrim, a retired oral surgeon, died Friday at his home at the age of 87.
Pilgrim, a native of Gainesville, Ga., was a resident of Mobile for many years and had served as a staff member at three local hospitals. In addition, he had been an honorary member of the Mobile Infirmary staff.
He came to Mobile in July 1941 as an oral surgeon and chief of dental service at Brookley Field, where he served throughout World War II. During that period he attended an oral surgery course in the summer of 1943 at Walter Reed Hospital. He was discharged in 1945, having attained the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Pilgrim graduated from the Emory University School of Dentistry. He was awarded the first oral surgery internship ever offered by Brady Hospital in Atlanta, his family said.
Pilgrim was a charter member of Southeastern Oral and Maxilliary Facial Surgeons, the American Dental Association and the Alabama Dental Association.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Ruth Pilgrim of Mobile; three children, Carl Owen Pilgrim of Montgomery, Anne Kracke of Birmingham and J. Jerry Pilgrim of Mobile; a sister, Mary Pilgrim of Tucson, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. today in Mobile Memorial Gardens with Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road directing.

Johnnika S. Williams
Johnnika S. Williams, a native of Prichard, died Monday from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. She was 6.
The accident also claimed the lives of her mother, Denise Michelle Williams, and her sister, Siedha S. Williams.
Johnnika's survivors include two sister, Terrilyn Williams of Prichard and Queaneisha Knight; a brother, Larry Knight Jr. of Mobile; her grandmothers, Carol Williams of Mobile and Dorothy Knight; and her father, Larry Knight of Mobile.
Visitation will be today at 1 p.m. at Prayer Tabernacle Early Church of Jesus, followed by services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Prichard Memorial Cemetery, with Memorial Funeral Home of Prichard directing.

Grace L. Hamilton
MONROEVILLE - Grace Lounette Hamilton, a former nurse, died Friday at a local hospital. She was 81.
Miss Hamilton, a Clarke County native, was a resident of Monroeville.
Survivors include her brother, Louie Hamilton of Dadeville, Ala.; and her sister, Ruth Lindsey of Jacksonville, Fla.
Graveside services are set for 3 p.m. Sunday in Allen Cemetery in Grove Hill, Ala., with Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville directing.

Clara Mae Bradshaw
SLIDELL, La. - Clara Mae Bradshaw, who had been a longtime Mobile resident, died Wednesday at a local nursing facility. She was 87.
Mrs. Bradshaw was a native of Athens, Ill.
Her memberships included Central Presbyterian Church and La Lune Servante Mystic Society.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Owen of Baton Rouge, La., and Emma Jayne Mason of Athens; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. today in Pine Crest Cemetery, with Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in charge of arrangements.
