MOBILE COUNTY

J.C. Easter
J.C. Easter, a former truck driver, died July 6.
Easter, who resided in Mobile, was a native of Meridian, Miss.
Survivors include two daughters, G.J. Hart of Akron, Ohio, and Myrtice Freeman of Mobile; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. today at Reese Funeral Home in Prichard.

Oran R. Jones
Oran Reginal Jones, a former partner in J&J Furniture Co. Inc., died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 82.
Jones, a longtime resident of Mobile, was a native of Sumrall, Miss. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
During World War II, Jones served in the U.S. Army's "Fighting 69th" Division. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Bouie Lodge in Sumrall and the Abba Temple Shrine.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Green Jones; a daughter, Patsy J. Boone; four sons, William R. Jones, Richard B. Jones, O. Robert "Bob" Jones and Edward C. Jones, all of Mobile; a sister, Mala J. Polk of Siesta Key, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services took place Monday at Pine Crest Funeral Home, with burial at Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children; 7701 Hitt Road; Mobile, AL 36695.

Wilhelmina L. Lee
Wilhelmina L. Lee, who retired from the staff at Mobile County Circuit Court after 30 years, died Monday at a local nursing facility. She was 76.
Miss Lee, a lifelong Mobilian, was known affectionately as "Miss Willie" to family and friends. Prior to working with the circuit court, she had worked at the Department of Pensions and Security and the Mobile County License Commissioner's Officer.
She received the M.O. Beale Scroll of Merit in March 1982.
As a member of Sage Avenue Methodist Church, she participated in the choir. She was a member of several mystic societies.
Survivors include two cousins, Velma Schlorff of Atlanta and Allison Matocivch of Houston; and her caregiver, Denise Harvey of Mobile.
Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 8 at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Magnolia Cemetery.

Teva J. Pierce
Teva Jordan Pierce, who had served as a volunteer at Providence Hospital, died Sunday at a local hospital.
The longtime Mobile resident, who was a native of Louisiana, was a 1930 graduate of Convent of Mercy High School.
Mrs. Pierce, an avid bridge player, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Azalea Garden Club.
Survivors include her children, Edwin Patterson Pierce Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., Evalyn Pierce Ellis and Janet Pierce Roberts, both of Mobile, and Jon Page Pierce of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 1 p.m. today at Pine Crest Cemetery, with Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road in charge of arrangements.

CLARKE COUNTY

Mary A. Lawson
GROVE HILL - Mary A. Lawson, a Grove Hill homemaker and a member of Satsuma Baptist Church, died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was 70.
Mrs. Lawson was a native of Seven Hills, Ala.
Survivors include her husband, Emet J. Lawson of Grove Hill; three sons, Emet Wayne Lawson of Thomasville, Ala., Jackie Dwight Lawson of Leroy, Ala., and Malcolm Jeffery Lawson of Jackson; four daughters, Mary Angela Spiers of Mobile, Dora Darlene Lawson and Sylvia Ann Harris, both of Jackson, and Brenda Lawson Williams of Lower Peach Tree, Ala.; two brothers, Manuel Young and Tony Young, both of Satsuma; a sister, Eunice LaGraw of Mobile; 28 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial at Satsuma Cemetery.

Mary Louise Shirley
THOMASVILLE - Mary Louise Shirley, a Thomasville homemaker and a member of Thomasville Baptist Church, died Monday at an area hospital. She was 55.
Mrs. Shirley was a native of Chatom, Ala.
Survivors include her husband, George Jackson Shirley Sr. of Thomasville; a son, Jackie Shirley of Camden, Ala.; a daughter, Angela Shirley of Mobile; her mother, Fannie F. McLain of Pensacola; a sister, Lois Smith of Mobile; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville. Services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Thomasville Baptist Church, with �burial at Springbank Cemetery in Chatom.

CONECUH COUNTY

William Jeffries Jr.
EVERGREEN - William Wesley Jeffries Jr., a resident of Evergreen, died Tuesday in Montgomery. He was 73.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Miller of Montgomery; a son, Bill Jeffries of Evergreen; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Ala.

MONROE COUNTY

Betty Jane Miller
MONROEVILLE - Betty Jane Miller, a longtime Sunday school teacher, died Sunday at an area hospital. She was 70.
Mrs. Miller, a longtime resident of Monroeville, was a native of Statesville, N.C.
She joined First United Methodist Church of Monroeville in June 1955 and remained an active member until her death. She was in the church's UMW and choir. She spent 37 years teaching Sunday school. She also had helped organize the Gulf Coast Women's Retreat and was involved in many community activities.
She is survived by her husband, William L. Miller of Monroeville; two sons, Dr. William L. Miller Jr. of Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Kenneth S. Miller of East Lyme, Conn.; two daughters, Tina Coleman and Jan Feaster, both of Kennesaw, Ga.; her mother, Florence Casler of Monroeville; a brother, Raymond L. Casler of Panama City, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Monroeville. Services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial at Pineville Cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville is directing.

Obie Morris
EXCEL - Obie Morris, who had worked in the finishing department for Frisco Manufacturing Co. in Frisco City, died Tuesday at a local nursing facility. He was 79.
Morris, who resided in Excel, was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a member of Excel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hendrix Morris of Excel; a brother, Narvin Morris of Lakeland, Fla.; and a sister, Leola Martin of Brewton, Ala.
Visitation will be this evening from 5:30 to 8 at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial at Shiloh Cemetery.

Paul J. Harrington
BIRMINGHAM - Paul Jones Harrington, a native of Marengo County who resided in Birmingham, died Monday at an area medical facility. He was 60.
Harrington had worked as a campus police officer at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He retired in September 1998.
He spent 30 years in the Alabama National Guard, serving in the Alabama towns of Butler, Thomasville and Fairhope. He also served in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf and during the Berlin Crisis.
Harrington was a past chief of ballot security for the Alabama Republican Party. And he was a member of Roebuck Park Baptist Church in Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Harrington of Birmingham; two sons, Michael Paul Harrington of Birmingham and Phillip Carl Harrington of Jasper, Ala.; a daughter, Cindy Marie Harrington of Birmingham; a brother, Willard Henry Harrington of Mobile; and two grandsons.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Aimwell Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery in Sweet Water, Ala.

Sadie Dixon
Sadie Dixon, a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. Dixon, who resided in Mobile, was a native of Dixons Mills, Ala. At church, she served in the senior choir and in the mission department.
Survivors include 12 children, Willie Dixon, Addie Dixon, Marie McGrew, Jessie Dixon, Doris Dixon and Thaddeus Dixon, all of Mobile, M.V. Dixon and L.T. Dixon Jr. of Dixons Mills, Pearline Thicklin of Greenville, Ala., Rosa Jowers, Shirley Moore and Barbara Falkner, all of Aurora, Ill; five sisters, Evelyn Prayer, Minnie Wright, Eddie D. Shaw and Woodie Mixon of Mobile, and Ruthana Tensley of Dixons Mills; four brothers, Robert Moore, Alfate Moore and Ernest J. Moore, all of Mobile, and Nathaniel Moore of Los Angeles; 38 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be Friday from noon to 5 p.m. at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. A second viewing will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, 1350 Chinquapin St., with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin. Burial will be at Polly Robinson Cemetery in Dixons Mills.

Betty R. Love
Betty Ruth Love, a Mobile homemaker, died Monday at a local hospital.
Mrs. Love, 43, was a native of Mount Vernon, Ala.
She is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Johnson of Mount Vernon.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of God Pentecostal in Mount Vernon, with burial at Morning Star Cemetery there.
Mosley Funeral Home of Prichard is directing.

Dallas A. Pace Sr.
Dallas Addison Pace Sr., an employee of Ingalls Shipbuilding, died Monday at his Mobile residence. He was 56.
Pace, known as "Dickie" and "Tex" to relatives and friends, was an electrician by trade, trained in residential as well as light and heavy industrial work. He was a pipefitter and welder at Ingalls, working on military ships for primary functional operations, marine combat and computer production control.
Born in Bristol, Tenn., a town on the Tennessee-Virginia border, Pace attended Slater High School there and studied electrical engineering at Tennessee State University in Nashville.
Survivors include his wife, Eugenia Ann Pace of Mobile; five children, Tondrea Bouchelion, Sterling Pace, Nickai Dunham, Natosha Pace and Mia Enright; four sisters, Joyce Morton, Mary Gilbert, Betty Rose and Carol Benefee; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian burial begins at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Casher Cemetery on Clubhouse Road .

CHOCTAW COUNTY

Felicia Rotch
PENNINGTON - Felicia Rotch, who had worked as a postmistress, died Monday at a health care facility in Meridian, Miss. She was 83.
Mrs. Rotch, who resided in Pennington, was a native of Mobile.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol H. Harrell of Pennington and Pat McGuire of Gallatin, Tenn.; a brother, Warren Kelley of Pensacola; a sister, Lucille Digaloma of Pensacola; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler today from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. services begin, with burial at Mobile National Cemetery.

CONECUH COUNTY

Jefferson L. Moorer
EVERGEEN - Jefferson Lee "Jeff" Moorer, a high school athletics coach, died Tuesday in Pensacola. He was 65.
Moorer, an Evergreen resident, coached in Escambia County, Fla. He had played football at the University of Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Bruce Moorer of Evergreen; three daughters, Martha Tidman of Pensacola, Vivian Hurd of Navarre, Fla., and Ellen Bruce Moorer of Milton, Fla.; a brother, Ebin Moorer of Evergreen; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.

WILCOX COUNTY

Minnie Gamble
CATHERINE - Minnie Gamble, a church mother at Sidney Chapel AME Zion Church of Catherine, died Monday. She was 86.
Mrs. Gamble, a homemaker, was a native of Catherine. She was a lifelong member of Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 442, Lillie of the Valley, in Annie Maine, Ala. She also was a member of the Little Welcome Society of Catherine.
Survivors include five sons, Hudson Gamble Jr. and Willie Charles Gamble, both of Cleveland, Henderson Gamble of Jacksonville, Fla., Columbus Gamble of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Benjamin Gamble of Catherine; nine daughters, Mariah G. Kimbrough of Birmingham, Arlean G. Cooney and Aurelia G. Kimbrough, both of San Antonio, Minnie Owens Williams and Dorothy G. Dawkins, both of Prichard, Betty G. Wilson, Bernice G. Hayes and Gloria J. Gamble, all of Cleveland, and Geneva G. McQuirter of Mobile; three brothers, Charlie Kelly Jr. of Mobile, George Kelly of Cleveland and Mansley Kelly of New York; five sisters, Florence Kelly Smith of Pensacola, Gracie Kelly, Martha J. Kelly and Mary E. Kelly, all of Detroit, and Rebecca Kelly of Catherine; 57 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The wake will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Gilmer's Funeral Service on Zeigler Boulevard in Mobile. Services are set for noon Saturday at Sidney Chapel AME Zion Church in Catherine, with burial at Bethel Cemetery.

Harvey Godwin
CLEVELAND - Harvey Godwin, owner of a wrecker service, died Friday in Cleveland.
Godwin, 75, was a native of Oak Grove, Fla.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Godwin and Rickey Godwin, both of Cleveland; a sister, Mazie Godwin of Davisville, Fla; and two grandchildren.
Services took place Wednesday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, with burial at Bowman Cemetery in Wawbeek, Ala.
