MOBILE COUNTY

Edgar H. Anderson
Edgar H. Anderson, who retired as vice president of sales with Paterson Hardware and Supply Co., died Tuesday at a local nursing facility. He was 93.
Anderson, a Clarke County native, was a longtime Mobile resident. He spent 45 years with Paterson Hardware and Supply, which later became the Patterson Co.
He was a longtime member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church, where he served as deacon emeritus, superintendent of the adult Sunday school for many years, and a longtime usher. He had also served as a pastor's assistant, visiting members at home and at hospitals. The church honored him its "Living Legend" in 1994.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Lona Locke Anderson of Mobile; a son, E. Harmon Anderson Jr. of Mobile; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
After private graveside services, a memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. today at Dauphin Way Baptist Church. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, 3009 Heather St., Mobile, AL 36607.

A. Edmund Carlson
Capt. A. Edmund Carlson, a retiree of Waterman Shipping Lines, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 71.
Carlson, a native of New Bedford, Mass., had lived in Mobile for the past 48 years.
He was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II and spent his career in the Merchant Marine after the war. While with the Waterman company, he served for many years as captain of the Robert E. Lee.
After retiring, he owned and operated Grand Mariner Marina on Dog River.
He participated in local maritime and boating groups, including the Mobile Power Squadron, Master Mates and the Pilots Association.
An avid gardener, Carlson was also a member of the Mobile Daylilies Society.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Louise Neitsch Carlson; four children, Barbara Pocase, Jean Carlson, Laura Doran and Michael Carlson, all of Mobile; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Catholic Church, with burial in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Ella Mae Greb
Ella Mae Patrick Greb, a member of Lott Road Methodist Church, died Wednesday at the family residence. She was 66.
Mrs. Greb, a Stockbridge, Mich., native, was a longtime Mobile resident.
Survivors include her daughter, Sara Greb Ashcraft of Wilmer; her mother, Lucille Patrick of Bad Axe, Mich.; her sister, Beverley Rice of Port Austin, Mich.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Lott Road Methodist Church, with viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Crawford United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Lott Road Methodist Church General Fund.

Marion D. Scarcliff
Marion Douglas Scarcliff, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 71.
Scarcliff was a longtime Mobile resident.
Survivors include his children, Beverly Scarcliff Holladay, Joyce Scarcliff Day and Donald Dewayne Scarliff, all of Mobile, and Michael Douglas Scarcliff of California; a sister, Vivian Lucille Scarcliff Burns of Mobile; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, with graveside services at 10 a.m. in Magnolia Cemetery.

Earnestine T. Shows
Earnestine Terry Shows, a native of Crystal Springs, Miss., and resident of Satsuma, died Wednesday at her home. She was 77.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Charles Earl Shows of Satsuma; four children, Linda Hancock of Eight Mile, and Jane Long, Sandra Shaper and Jean Whitman, all of Satsuma; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, where services are set for 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Helen M. Vickers
Helen Marie Vickers, a Sunflower, Ala., native, and Eight Mile resident, died Tuesday at a local health care facility. She was 81.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Vickers of Saraland and Joseph Vickers of Satsuma; a daughter, Vivian Butts of Daphne; a brother, Jimmie Ward of Saraland; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with services scheduled at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Roy L. Wright
Roy Lee Wright, a retiree of National Gypsum Paper Co., died Monday at a local hospital.
Wright, 93, a native of King, Ark., was a Mobile resident for the past 46 years.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Mobile, where he had served as a Sunday school superintendent, board member and choir member for more than 40 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Wright Daniels of Mobile; two sisters, Elba Wright Skelton and Madge Wright Millwee, both of DeQueen, Ark.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the services. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

MONROE COUNTY

Julius J. Watson
BEATRICE — Julius James Watson, a member of Beatrice Baptist Church, died Tuesday at an area hospital. He was 71.
Watson was a lifelong resident of Beatrice.
Survivors include his wife, Wiltie Watson of Beatrice; a son, Mack Watson of Old Texas, Ala.; two daughters, Martha Lundy of Columbus, Ga., and Fairy Lambert of Athens, Tenn.; two brothers, Joe Watson of Chestnut, Ala., and Clifton Watson of Prattville, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville, with burial in Pineville Cemetery.

Harry Greenwood Durant Sr.
BROMLEY — Harry Greenwood Durant Sr. of Bromley, a native of Mobile, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at his home.
He was a retired forester with Scott Paper Co. and was 91 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lillian Charlton Durant of Bromley; one son, Harry G. Durant Jr., of New Carrollton, Md.; one brother, Henry Charlton of Mobile; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 until 8 tonight at Norris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Boyer officiating. Burial will take place at Bromley Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.

Emma Schultz Hawke
FAIRHOPE — Emma Schultz Hawke of Fairhope, a native of South River Park, died Monday, July 12, 1999 at Mercy Medical in Daphne.
Mrs. Hawke and her husband owned and operated West End Grocery Store in Fairhope for 20 years.
She is survived by two nephews, Robert M. Schneider of Fairhope and Sonny Ramsey of Florida and two nieces, Emma Glen Ramsey of Albany, Ga., and Marjorie Daniels of Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pine Rest Memorial Park, with the Rev. Hamilton Moore officiating.
Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.

Jessie Ray McIntosh
FAIRHOPE — Jessie Ray McIntosh of Fairhope, a native of Hardin County, Ky., died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at a local hospital. She was 72 years old.
Mrs. McIntosh was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope where she served as a deacon. She was also a member of the Baldwin Senior Travelers, she was an active volunteer at local nursing homes and a member of Sigma Beta Phi Sorority.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth R. McIntosh of Ridgeland, Miss., Rusty McIntosh, of Steamboat Springs, Co.; two brothers, Herbert Ray and Hurbert Ray; three sisters, Velar Dudgeon, Ilene Skeeters, Loraine Simmons, all of Big Clifty, Ky.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with Dr. T. Morton McMillan Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile. Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.

Ladgie Jurek
SILVERHILL — Ladgie Jurek, a native of Fort Bend County, Texas, and a resident of Silverhill, died Monday, July 19, 1999. He was 67 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn R. Jurek of Silverhill; three sisters, Lucy Abschneider of Santa Fe, Texas, Helen Abschneider of Albing, Texas, and Martha Klinger of Valley View, Pa.; three brothers, Leonard and Raymond Jurek both of Rosenberg, Texas, and Louis Jurek of Orchard, Texas.

Joseph L. Plemmons
Joseph Lee Plemmons, who had worked as an animal health technician, died Wednesday in a Mobile hospital. He was 88.
Plemmons was a native and resident of Citronelle, where he attended First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Jerry Plemmons of Citronelle; two sisters, Helen McMillan of Citronelle and Deloris Odom of Mobile; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Citronelle. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle.

Richard Allen Willett
Richard Allen Willett, a veteran of the Navy, died Wednesday.
Willett, a Mobile resident, was a graduate of Davidson High School and the University of South Alabama.
Survivors include his son, Donovan Willett of Mobile; his mother, Ona Willett of Mobile; two sisters, Diona Prim of Mobile and Dr. Judith Rosenquist of Union City, Ga.; and a brother, John R. Willett of Pascagoula.
A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. Monday at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Dan Rackley Jr.
Dan Rackley Jr., a veteran of the Army, died Wednesday at his home. He was 67.
Rackley, known affectionately as "Danny Boy" to family and friends, was a Butler, Ala., native and a Mobile resident.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Richie Rackley; three children, Mary Rackley, James Rackley Sr. and Dianna Brown, all of Mobile; two sisters, Betty Kennedy and Loretta Jackson of Mobile; a brother, Ferman Rackley of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, with visitation at 10 a.m. Monday and services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery.

Samuel Jackson
Samuel Jackson, a retired civil servant, died Tuesday at his Mobile residence. He was 79.
Jackson, affectionately known as "Uncle Sam" to family and friends, was a member of Greater Morning Star Baptist Church. He was a Bay Minette native and a former Columbus, Ohio, resident.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Leslie Rudolph of Mobile; four sisters, Pearlie Crook, Ethel Mae Crook and Marie Mix, all of Bay Minette, and Maggie Pleasant of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing also will be after 9 a.m. Monday at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, 401 Donald St., with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mutual Aid Cemetery in Bay Minette.

BALDWIN COUNTY

Jennie L. Duhe
DAPHNE — Jennie L. Duhe, a native of Montz, La., died Tuesday in a health care facility in Daphne. She was 83.
Mrs. Duhe formerly lived in Monroe, La.
She is survived by one son, "W.J." Bill Duhe of Monroe; one daughter, Joan Duhe Mullens of Mobile; one sister, Mary Dufilho; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home in Metairie, La., with services at noon. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Bayview Funeral Home of Daphne handled local arrangements.
Memorials may be made to National Shrine of St. Jude, 205 W. Monroe St., Chicago, IL 60606; or Catholic Daughters, 408 Belle Alliance Drive, La Place, LA 70068.

Elizabeth C. Sandlin

FOLEY — Elizabeth Cobb Sandlin, who had worked for 18 years with the Alabama Bureau of Tourism, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 77.
Mrs. Sandlin, a Birmingham native, was a longtime Foley resident.
She had worked as an information specialist at the Welcome Center on the Alabama-Florida state line.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Faircloth Holman of Summerdale and Brenda Faircloth Lake of Spanish Fort; two sisters, Sarah Wilder of Mobile and Chrystine Little of Birmingham; a brother, James Cobb of Anniston, Ala.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the family home, 13973 Scenic U.S. 98 in Fairhope, where an informal memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street handled arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.

CLARKE COUNTY

Sharetta L. Blanks
JACKSON — Sharetta Latrice Blanks, an employee of Dairy Queen in Jackson, died Sunday in Choctaw County from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. She was 17.
Miss Blanks was a Jackson native and resident.
Survivors include her parents, Kenneth and Belinda Beck, and James and Lisa Jenkins, all of Jackson; three brothers, Kenneth Beck II, Karl Robinson and Darnell Crayton, all of Jackson; a stepbrother, Calvin Stephens of Jackson; a stepsister, Jessica Stephens of Jackson; her grandmothers, Evelyn Campbell, Abbie Blanks and Mary Stabler, all of Jackson; and her great-grandmothers, Ruth Carmichael and Elizabeth Jackson, both of Jackson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson. Service are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson.

Spencer York Jr.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Spencer York Jr., a Mobile native and a Corpus Christi resident, died July 14 in a hospital in Corpus Christi. He was 78.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne York; 10 children, all of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Clarence York of Mobile and Leon York of Los Angeles; two sisters, Louella York of Mobile and Irma Sanders of Chicago; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, with entombment in Seaside Memorial Park Mausoleum. Seaside Funeral Home of Corpus Christi handled arrangements.
