MOBILE COUNTY
Arthur Brown
Arthur Brown, who had worked as a laborer in the asphalt business, died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 92.
Brown was a Greenville native and a Chunchula resident.
He is survived by three sons, Tommie Brown of Chunchula, Johnnie Brown of Columbus, Ga., and Robert Garner of Pascagoula, Miss.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday -NTat Starlight Full Gospel Church in Chunchula, with services to follow. Burial will be in Starlight Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Reese Funeral Home in Prichard.
Gladys Pope Collins
Gladys Pope Collins, a member of St. James Major Catholic Church in Prichard, died Friday in a local health care facility. She was 74.
Mrs. Collins was formerly employed by Haas Davis Meat Packing Co., Twin Oaks Nursing Home and Courtaulds Inc.
She is survived by her husband, Randolph S. Collins of Prichard; three brothers, Milton Pope Sr. and Leroy Pope, both of York, Ala., and Connie Pope of Albany, Ala.; and two sisters, Daisy Eady of Savannah, Ga., and Louise Alexander of York.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Major Catholic Church, with graveside services at 10 a.m. in Whispering Pines Cemetery. Reece Funeral Home in Prichard handled arrangements.
Lewis Kirksey
Lewis "Bubba" Kirksey, a retiree of Mobile Gas Co., died Wednesday at a local health care facility. He was 86.
Kirksey was a member of Bethel AME Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 41 years, and a member of St. John Lodge No. 2 F&AM.
He is survived by one son, Joe Lewis Kirksey of Mobile; one sister, Mittie Dortch of New York; one brother, Leonard Kirksey of Mobile; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel AME Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with services to follow. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
John M. McFayden
John Maxie McFayden, a World War II veteran, died Friday in a local nursing facility. He was 81.
McFayden was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile. He was a graduate of McGill Institute and a member of the McGill-Toolen Sports Hall of Fame. McFayden served in Company B of the 125th Armored Engineer Battalion during World War II. He was a longtime member of Little Flower Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.
He is survived by two sons, John B. McFayden and Chris J. McFayden, both of Mobile; one daughter, Brenda Barter of Mobile; one sister, Aline Huffman of Birmingham; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Radney Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Allen Memorial Home, 713 S. Washington Ave., Mobile, AL 36603.
Autherine E. Watson
Autherine E. "Nannie" Henderson Watson, a Mobile native, died Thursday at a local health care facility. She was 91.
Mrs. Watson is survived by one son, Herman D. Hendley of Mobile; two daughters, Katie M. Stallworth and Cynthia Bagsby, both of Mobile; seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at State Street AME Zion Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, with services to follow. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to State Street AME Zion Church and/or Mercy Medical Hospice.

Courtney Glisson Jr.
FOLEY - Courtney "Toby" Glisson Jr., a native of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday in a local hospital. He was 75.
Glisson was a longtime resident and businessman of the Foley area.
He is survived by his wife, Gene Glisson of Foley; four sons, Damon C. Glisson of Apollo Beach, Fla., John T. Glisson of Foley, Wyatt C. Glisson of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Benja Thompson of Pensacola; two daughters, Camille C. Langley of Daphne, and Sarah G. Doig of Golden, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Pine Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Foley.

Lester Brown Stepp
BUTLER - Lester Brown Stepp, a former construction worker, died Friday at an area nursing facility. He was 89.
Brown was a Centre, Ala., native and a Butler resident.
He is survived by two sons, Rex Stepp of O'Brien, Fla., and Max Stepp of Toxey, Ala.; three daughters, Carol McMillan of Callahan, Fla., Charslie Copeland of Butler, and Linda Rivenvark of Vera Beach, Fla.; one brother, David Stepp of Centre; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Providence Cemetery in Centre.
Arrangements are by Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler.
Clarence W. Sellers
GILBERTOWN - Clarence Wilmer Sellers, a self-employed farmer and craftsman, died Saturday in an area nursing center. He was 83.
Sellers was a resident of Gilbertown, Ala., and a member of Grace Chapel Assembly of God.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Lovette Sellers of Gilbertown; two sons, Curtis Sellers and Walter "Pete" Sellers, both of Gilbertown; five daughters, Argie S. Boykin of Gilbertown, Audrey S. James of Buckatunna, Miss., Sadie S. Fell of Demopolis, Weater S. Caten of Chatom, and Darlene S. Donald of Mathersville, Miss.; one brother, Donald Sellers of Gilbertown; and one sister, Dorothy James of Gilbertown.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Chapel Assembly of God in Toxey, Ala. Burial will be in Mosley Cemetery in Gilbertown.

Chelsea B. Carpenter
JACKSON - Chelsea Brianne Carpenter died Friday in a local hospital.
She is survived by her parents, James and Christy Carpenter of Jackson, Ala.; her grandparents, Willie and Janet Overstreet of Jackson and Aretta Carpenter of McIntosh, Ala.; and her great-grandparents, Woodie C. Overstreet and Dorothy C. Weaver, both of Jackson, and Etta Gartman of McIntosh.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of Praise Cemetery in Sunflower, Ala. Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson handled arrangements.
Grace Franklin Gates
GROVE HILL - Grace Franklin Gates, a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church, died Friday at her residence. She was 72.
Mrs. Gates was a native of Grove Hill and was also a member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Gates of Grove Hill; one son, Robby C. Gates of Grove Hill; one brother, Gerald Franklin of Mobile; and two sisters, Catherine Whitehead of Apalachacola, Fla., and Doris Putnam of Lake Dalewood, Miss.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill, with services at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery.

Max C. Jones Jr.
MOBILE — Max C. Jones Jr., an accounting technician for more than 33 years with GM&O Railroad before his retirement, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 76.
Jones was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile.
He owned the Skyline Restaurant in west Mobile and was a member of Masonic Loop Lodge No. 895 F&AM. He was a member of Abba Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite Bodies.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jones of Mobile; three sons, Richard Jones, Matt Jones and Keith Jones, all of Mobile; a sister, Harriet Woodham of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home. Services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Abba Shrine Temple's Children's Hospital Fund.
Marietta C. Duncan Lee
Marietta C. Duncan Lee, a homemaker, died Friday in Grovetown, Ga. She was 58.
Mrs. Lee was a native of Mobile.
She is survived by two sons, Dewayne Lee and Troy Lee, both of Mobile; three daughters, Dorothea Lee of Fort Worth, Texas, Harriette Lee of Grovetown, Ga., and Corlette Lee Newson of Mobile; three sisters, Ann Moultry of Brundidge, Ala., Louvenia Jackson and Debra Porter, both of Troy; two brothers, Clauzelle Duncan of Brundidge and Gary Evans of Troy; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the Shrine of the Holy Cross in Daphne from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m., with burial at Whispering Pines Cemetery.

Lanell R. Saltz
FAIRHOPE — Lanell Ray Saltz, a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 79.
Mrs. Saltz, who resided in Fairhope, was a native of Laska, Ala. She was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday school class.
She is survived by her husband, Ross Saltz of Fairhope; two sons, Leon Saltz and Vann Saltz, both of Fairhope; a sister, Annie Merritt of Mobile; Bonnie Merritt of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Fairhope Funeral Home. Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Fairhope, with burial at Memory Gardens.

BUTLER, Ala. — Mabel Melton Boswell, a native of Alabama, died Sunday at a local health care facility. She was 95.
Mrs. Boswell is survived by two sisters, Norma Gibson and Mary M. Elliot, both of Gilbertown, Ala., and eight nieces.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler. Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial at Butler City Cemetery.

James E. Kennedy
TIBBIE, Ala. — James Earl Kennedy, a sailor with the U.S. Merchant Marine, died Saturday at his Tibbie residence.
Kennedy is survived by a grandson, Johnny Clark of Mobile, and two grandaughters, Charlotte Howard and Vickie Watts, both of Tibbie.
Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. today at Howardtown Baptist Cemetery.

Walter V. Blaylock
GULF SHORES — Walter V. Blaylock, a native of Coffeeville, Miss., and resident of Gulf Shores, died Saturday, July 31, 1999. He was 73.
Blaylock was a real-estate broker and a veteran of World War II. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores.
He is survived by three sons, William Joseph Blaylock of Portland, Ore., Walter D. Blaylock and Warren H. Blaylock, both of Gulf Shores; two daughters, Elizabeth B. Johnson and MCourierlie B. Burr, both of Gulf Shores; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Baldwin Funeral Home in Gulf Shores.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gulf Shores First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Rest Memorial Gardens in Foley.
Louise L. Terrell
FOLEY — Louise L. Terrell, a native of Sweetwater, Ala., and longtime resident of Foley, died Friday, July 30, 1999, in a Montgomery hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Terrell held a bachelor's degree from Auburn University and taught several years at Foley High School as well as 30 years at Foley Elementary School. She was also a member of Foley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, James G. Terrell of Montgomery, and George L. Terrell of Alexander City; one daughter, Jane Terrell Lee of Seminole; two sisters, Eleanor Lewis of Sweetwater, and Laura Boller of Foley; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Foley United Methodist Church with services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery. Bayview Funeral Home in Foley is handling arrangements.
The family suggests that donations be made to the Foley United Methodist Church.
