MOBILE COUNTY
Donald P. Lewis
Donald Phillips Lewis, manager of Perdido Trucking and a coach with the Catholic Youth Organization, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 49.
Lewis, a native resident of Mobile, graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of science degree and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He attended St. Ignatius Catholic Church and Ashland Place United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillis Lott Lewis of Mobile; two sons, D. Phillips Lewis Jr. and H. Lott Lewis of Mobile; a daughter, Mary Shannon Lewis of Mobile; a brother, James Lamar Lewis Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and stepsisters Laura L. Martin of New York City and Marcia K. Martin of Mobile.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius. Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.

Milton T. Ring
Milton Thomas Ring, a farmer in Grand Bay for many years, died Sunday at his home. He was 67.
Ring, a native of Rhinelander, Wis., resided in Grand Bay for the past 33 years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Ring of Grand Bay; two daughters, Deborah R. Danley of Rhinelander and Tonya Bowles of Grand Bay; two sons, Michael E. Carroll and James A. Ring, both of Rhinelander; three sisters, Barbara Reynolds of St. Elmo, Grace Brenton of Rhinelander and Elsie Johnson of Heron Bay, Ala.; two brothers, Jimmy Ring of Grand Bay and Dennis Ring of Portage, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 8 at Serenity Funeral Home. Services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with burial at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Thomas N. Smith
Thomas Nathan Smith, a lifelong Mobilian, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Survivors include his daughter, Martha Smith of Mobile, and his brother, Bill Smith of Mobile.
Visitation will be today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin, with burial at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Barbara R. Wilkins
Barbara Rebecca Wilkins, who had worked as a group benefit supervisor with a paper company, died Saturday at a Mobile nursing facility. She was 65.
Mrs. Wilkins, a native of Lucedale, Miss., had resided in Stockton.
Survivors include her husband, Billy G. Wilkins of Stockton; two children, John William Gibson Jr. of Orange Beach and Liana Wilkins Barnett of Bay Minette; two sisters, Joan Howell of Lucedale, Miss., and Brenda Collins of Agricola, Miss.; two brothers, T.L. Rouse Jr. and Malcolm Rouse, both of Agricola; and seven grandchildren.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland ,with graveside services set for noon today at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Agricola.

Margaret Layfield
FAIRHOPE — Margaret Layfield, a resident of Fairhope, died Sunday in Daphne. She was 71.
Survivors include her son, Michael L. Layfield of Fairhope; two sisters, Mildred Bryant of Steele, Ala., and Mary Trucks of Cropwell, Ala.; and a brother, Gus Moody of Midfield, Ala.
Visitation will be today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. services begin. Entombment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
MONROE COUNTY
Lucille F. Ingram
MONROEVILLE — Services took place Monday for Lucille Faulk Ingram, 83, a resident of Monroeville, who died Sunday at a local hospital.
Mrs. Ingram is survived by her daughter, Cecelia Ingram of Monroeville, and a sister, Edna Marie Rudisill of Florida.
Burial was at Baptist Cemetery in Monroeville.
Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville was in charge of arrangements.

Jean S. Freeman
WINNSBORO, Texas — Jean Swanson Freeman, who had resided in Mobile for a number of years before moving to Texas, died Sunday at her Winnsboro home after a lengthy illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Freeman, a native of New Orleans, had resided in Texas for the past six years.
Survivors include a sister, Effie Lancaster of Loma Linda, Calif.; a son, James T. Freeman of Winnsboro; five daughters, Faith Holland of Lucedale, Miss., Hope Harvison of Wilmer, Charity Calvin of Dallas, Star Bougeois of DeKalb, Ill., and Spring Kersey of Winnsboro; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Low Funeral Home in Quitman, Texas, handled funeral arrangements.
Mary Alice Johnson
ORANGE BEACH — Mary Alice Johnson, a resident of Orange Beach for the past 14 years, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at an area hospice after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was 74 and was a native of Warren, Ill.
Mrs. Johnson formerly lived in Rockford, Ill., and Homewood, Ill.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon P. Johnson of Orange Beach; a daughter, Cynthia Bruno of Rockford; a son, Gregory Johnson of Orange Beach; two sisters, Jane Harvell and Phyllis Metropolis, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Robert Wolfram of Warsaw, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude's Lutheran Church in Gulf Shores. Cremation arrangements were handled by Mack Funeral Home of Robertsdale.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1263, Gulf Shores, AL 36547.
Mary French Guthrie
GULF SHORES — Gulf Shores resident Mary Katherine French Guthrie, 91, died Saturday, July 24, 1999.
She was retired from the state of Florida.
Survivors include her husband, Ross Guthrie of Gulf Shores; two sons, Ralph W. French Jr. of Marianna, Fla., and Albert "Skip" French of Robertsdale; a stepson, Alex Guthrie of Biloxi, Miss.; two sisters, Blanche Germanette of Los Angeles and Sophia Kelley of Sumter, S.C.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. The Rev. Gene May officiated.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Bayview Funeral Home of Foley.
James Barton Evans
FAIRHOPE — James Barton Evans died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at a veterans hospital in New Orleans.
The 80-year-old Fairhope resident was a retired U.S. Air Force major. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Evans of Fairhope; a daughter, Mary Ann Nelson of Fairhope; two sons, Anthony L. Evans of Daphne and James B. Evans II of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Major JoAnne Evans of Fort Myers, Fla; two brothers, Evan Evans of Minneapolis and Max Evans of New Jersey; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with Father Gordon Milstead and Father Charles Bordenca officiating. The burial will be at Mobile National Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church building fund.
Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.
Jessie C. Stacks
LILLIAN — Jessie C. Stacks, a native of Birmingham and a resident of Lillian, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999. She was 89 years old.
Survivors include a son, Jerome G. Stacks of Lillian; two sisters, Agnes Coats and Robina King, both of Homewood; a brother, George Coats of Pelham; a grandson and a great-grandson.
Graveside services will be 9 a.m. today at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley. Pine Rest Funeral Home of Foley is handling arrangements.
Lanell R. Saltz
FAIRHOPE — Lanell Ray Saltz, a native of Laska, Ala., and a resident of Fairhope, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at a local hospital. She was 79 years old.
Mrs. Saltz was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope and the Truth Seekers Sunday school class.
She is survived by her husband, Ross Saltz of Fairhope; two sons, Leon Saltz and Vann Saltz, both of Fairhope; a sister, Annie Merritt of Mobile; family member Bonnie Merritt of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Fairhope. Burial will take place in Memory Gardens.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Fairhope Building Fund, 300 S. Section St., Fairhope, AL 36532 or to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 545 South Mobile St., Fairhope, AL 36532.
