MOBILE COUNTY
Betty L. Byrd
Betty Louise Byrd, who had worked as a sewing machine operator for Vanity Fair Mills, died Monday. She was 78.
Mrs. Byrd, a native of Monroe County, was a resident of Mobile and a member of University Baptist Church of Mobile.
Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie Archer and Cathy S. Marston, both of Mobile; two brothers, James A. Palmer and Louis E. Palmer, both of Mobile; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville, Ala., followed by graveside services at 1:30 p.m. in Union Cemetery in Frisco City, Ala.
Blondell W. Garrick
Blondell W. Garrick, who had worked for the Mobile Housing Board for 25 years, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 88.
Garrick, a native and resident of Mobile, was a member of First Baptist of Mobile.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Garrick of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at DuCloux Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ala.
Fred Jones
Fred Jones, a retiree of International Paper Co., died Tuesday at his home. He was 70.
Jones, affectionately known as "Honey" to family and friends, was a native of Marengo County and resident of Prichard.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby L. Jones of Prichard; and three sisters, Essie Dumas, Corine Crum of Mobile and Pearline Turner of Nicholsville, Ala.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. The cortege will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for Antioch Baptist Church in Nicholsville, where visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. services. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.
Phil Lewis
Phil Lewis, a native and resident of Mobile, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 49.
Lewis graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of science degree and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He was manager of Perdido Trucking, a coach with the Catholic Youth Organization, and attended St. Ignatius Church and Ashland Place United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillis Lott Lewis of Mobile; two sons, D. Phillips Lewis Jr. and H. Lott Lewis of Mobile; one daughter, Mary Shannon Lewis of Mobile; his father, James Lamar Lewis Sr., his stepmother, Barbara Martin Lewis; one brother, James Lamar Lewis Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and stepsisters, Laura L. Martin of New York City and Marcia K. Martin of Mobile.
Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, follwed by services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Catholic Youth Organization, P.O. Box 6955 Mobile, 36660.
Arrangements were handled by Pine Crest Funeral Home.
Evelyn K. Robinson
Evelyn Keith Robinson, who formerly worked as a sitter with the sick in their homes, died Sunday at a local hospital after an illness. She was 64.
Mrs. Robinson was a lifelong Mobilian.
Survivors include six children, Johnny L. Keith, Garry K. Grant, Joseph Keith and Vohn L. Keith Sr., all of Mobile, Sharon A. Keith of Chicago and Malcolm D. Keith of Atlanta; three sisters, Eloise Jones, Thelma K. Byrd and Betty E. Keith, all of Mobile; six brothers, Paul L. Keith of Atlanta, Lorenza Keith, Henry Keith, Alvin Keith, John Keith and Reginald Keith, all of Mobile; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Creola Washington.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at El Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, with services at noon. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Azalea Funeral Home directing.
CHOCTAW COUNTY
Phillip T. Jimmerson
BUTLER - Phillip Troy Jimmerson, who worked as a roll shipper with Fort James Corp., died Sunday at his home. He was 35.
The Alabama native was a resident of Butler.
Survivors include his parents, Troy and Laverne L. Jimmerson of Butler; a daughter, Peyton Jimmerson of Butler; and a brother, Cavin Jimmerson of League City, Texas.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler, with burial in Red Springs Cemetery in Gilbertown, Ala.
CLARKE COUNTY
Norman T. Allday
GROVE HILL - Norman T. Allday, who had worked as an auto mechanic for the Alabama Highway Department, died Monday at a hospital in Grove Hill. He was 83.
Allday, a native of Winn, Ala., was a resident of Grove Hill and was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bridges Allday; two daughters, Sandra Franklin of Luverne, Ala., and Lynne Hill of La Grange, Ga.; two sons, Ivan Allday of Linden, Ala., and Sammy Allday of Grove Hill; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill.
Memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church.
Ida Berry
WALKER SPRINGS - Ida Berry, a homemaker and member of Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, died Thursday at her home. She was 86.
Mrs. Berry was a native and resident of Walker Springs.
Survivors include five sons, Johnny Berry, Earl Berry and Jerry Berry, all of Walker Springs, and Frank Berry and Sam Berry, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Lula M. Brown of Walker Springs, Lucretia B. Chetham of West Palm Beach and Lillie T. Coates of Jackson, Ala.; a brother, Robert Hannon of Walker Springs; two sisters, Margaret Scott of Walker Springs and Luberta Rivers of West Palm Beach; and many grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hotel Hill Cemetery in Walker Springs.
Arrangements are by Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson, Ala.

Ardie C. Dewberry
BEATRICE - Ardie Calvin Dewberry, a native of Conecuh County who lived most of his life in Beatrice, died Monday at a local nursing facility. He was 71.
Survivors include a brother, J.B. Dewberry of Georgiana, Ala.; and four sisters, Martha Covin of Beatrice, Ethel Ross of Century, Fla., Mary Raines of Evergreen, Ala., and Daisey House of Bay Minette.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville, Ala., with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Lyeffion, Ala.
Creola S. Watts
BEATRICE - Creola S. Watts, a former longtime teacher, died Monday at a local nursing facility. She was 83.
Mrs. Watts, a resident of Beatrice, spent more than 35 years as a teacher before retiring.
She was a member of Sylvester Baptist Church of Beatrice, where she had been a Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Watts received her high school education at the former Monroe County Training School, and graduated from Tuskegee University.
Her memberships include the NEA, AEA, ASTA and ARTA.
Among her survivors is her sister, Elnora Sheffield of Trenton, N.J.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sylvester Baptist Church in Beatrice, with services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Pineville Cemetery in Beatrice.
Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville.

Billy R. Busby
Billy Ruttledge Busby, who retired from the Mobile County road and bridge department in 1986, died Wednesday at his home in Eight Mile after a lengthy illness. He was 71.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Essie Cochran Busby; a son, Glenn R. Busby of Eight Mile; three sisters, Dean Givens and Alma B. Barnes, both of Mobile, and Ann L. Jacques of Baldwin, La.; a brother, Yancy Lee Busby Jr. of Oxford, Ala.; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, where services are set for 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Semmes.
DeMichael Jones Jr.
DeMichael Phillip Jones Jr., a veteran of the U.S. Army, died Sunday at his home.
Jones, 42, was a native and resident of Mobile.
Survivors include his son, Tora White of Mobile; two sisters, Dora L. Todd and Wanda Franklin, both of Mobile; three brothers, Faunchello Jenkins of Okolona, Miss., Cleo Pritchett of San Antonio, and Walter Jenkins of Mobile; and several grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home in Prichard, with services at 11 a.m.
Max C. Jones Jr.
Max Cyrus Jones Jr., an accounting technician for more than 33 years with GM&O Railroad before his retirement, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 76.
Jones, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, owned the Skyline Restaurant in west Mobile and belonged to the Masonic Loop Lodge No. 895 F&AM. He was also a member of Abba Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite Bodies.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jones of Mobile; three sons, Richard Jones, Matt Jones and Keith Jones, all of Mobile; one sister, Harriet Woodham of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Radney Funeral Home. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Abba Shrine Temple Childrens Hospital Fund.

Foster P. Smith
CARMICHAEL, Calif. - Foster P. Smith, a native Mobilian and resident of California, died Saturday. He was 75.
Smith, a World War II veteran, was a tax consultant in Mobile and Sacramento, Calif., for more than 45 years.
He retired as a civil servant from McClellan Air Force Base.
He was a parishioner and captain usher at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carla Smith; a daughter, Adrienne Batiste; two brothers, Thomas Smith and George Smith; three sisters, Gladys Spraglin, Rita Rodgers Jr. and Alice Simpson, all of Mobile; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, in Sacramento. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 3100 Norris Ave.
Burial will be in Sierra Hills Memorial park in Sacramento.
