Edna Sims
Edna Sims, a homemaker and resident of Mobile, died Monday at the age of 86.
Mrs. Sims was a native of Bay Minette.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Marva Gable, Henry J. Gable and Lisa Jones, all of Mobile, Yvonne Gable of Miami and Audrey Petterson of Montgomery.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, with services at 2 p.m., at Reese Funeral Home. Burial will be in Starlight Cemetery in Chunchula.

Victoria D. Hayes
Victoria Delores Hayes, who worked as a nurse at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, died Sept. 14 at a local hospital. She was 40.
Ms. Hayes, known to family and friends as "Vickie," was a Mobile native.
Survivors include her father, Roscoe Walters of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and three brothers, Burnie Hayes, Lorenzo Hayes and Charles Hayes, all of Mobile.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, with services at 11 a.m., at Reese Funeral Home. Burial will be in Prichard Memorial Cemetery.

Samuel F. York
Samuel Frank York, who had served in the Alabama National Guard, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 64.
A Mobile resident, York was a native of Birmingham, where he graduated from Woodlawn High School. He was a member of Parkway Assembly of God.
Survivors include his father, DeWitt T. York Sr. of Mobile; and his brother, DeWitt T. York Jr. of Birmingham.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway, with burial in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Camie T. Salter
Camie Tanner Salter, a homemaker, died Thursday at her home at the age of 83.
Mrs. Salter was a native and resident of the Tanner Williams community.
Survivors include her husband, Mason Salter; a son, LaRue Salter of Tanner Williams; a daughter, Anne Salter Hixson of Mobile; three stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, with services at 2 p.m., at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Burial will be in Joyner Cemetery in Tanner Williams.

BALDWIN COUNTY

Hannah Pauline Van Wezel
FOLEY - A memorial service for Hannah Pauline Van Wezel is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Oyster Bay Village Community Center in Gulf Shores.
Mrs. Van Wezel, of Foley, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Live Oaks Assisted Living. She was 90 years old.
She was a graduate of Western Reserve Nursing School in Cleveland and was a resident of south Baldwin County for 53 years.
Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia Martin of Atlanta and Elizabeth Powell of New Castle, England; a sister, Edith Speigle of Cleveland; and four grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Community Hospice of Baldwin County.
Bayview Funeral Home of Foley handled cremation arrangements.

CLARKE COUNTY

Dester Brown
GROVE HILL - Dester Brown, a homemaker and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, died Monday at her home. She was 65.
Mrs. Brown, a native of Allen, Ala., was a resident of Grove Hill.
Survivors include her husband, John Brown; and two sons, Mark Brown and Sollie Brown, all of Grove Hill; two daughters, Mary Presnall of Mobile and Marilyn Kelly of Mound Bayou, Miss.; five sisters, Willie Mae Upshaw and Evon Upshaw, both of Mobile, Theresa Upshaw and Bennie Mae Upshaw, both of Grove Hill, and Iva Dean Coates of Moss Point, Miss.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church near Jackson, Ala., with viewing at noon. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, with Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Anna L. Phillips
SUGGSVILLE, Ala. - Anna Louise Phillips, a member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church of Suggsville, died Sunday at the age of 70.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Clarke County and a resident of Suggsville.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary L. Davis of Zimco, Ala., Dorothy J. Phillips and Bettye Bettis, both of Manila, Ala., and Frances L. Jackson of Los Angeles; three stepchildren, Lillie Mae Williams of Mobile, Clarence Tunstall of Chicago and Mark Jones of Walker Springs, Ala.; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Fork Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

James Beauford Jr.
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - James W. Beauford Jr., a former Mobile resident, died Sunday at a Florida hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 45.
Beauford, a native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., was a resident of Pompano Beach. While in Mobile, he attended public schools, graduating from Williamson High School. He also had been active in Scouting and JROTC.
He briefly attended the University of South Alabama before joining the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, James W. Beauford Sr. and Bettie Stroecker; his mother, Delores Beauford; two sisters, Pamela Whitfield and Heather Beauford, both of North Carolina; and a brother, W. Alex Beauford of the Cincinnati area.
Services took place in Pompano Beach.

Tommie Riley
MOSS POINT, Miss. - Tommie Lee Rogers Riley, a former resident of Atmore, died Saturday in Ocean Springs, Miss., from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. She was 57.
Mrs. Riley was a native of Wilcox County, Ala., and a resident of Moss Point. She graduated from the Escambia County Training School in Atmore.
She was a member of Church of the Living God No. 297 in Moss Point. She served as president of the Women's Department and the Pastor's Aid Board, vice president of the 9th District Women's Work Department, and former president of the usher board. In addition, she was a charter member of the choir, adviser to the Junior Mission, praise leader and a missionary.
Other memberships included Order of the Eastern Star of Zion Chapter No. 610. She was a former member of Heroines of Jericho Court No. 140.
Survivors include her husband, Willie D. Wiley; and three daughters, Corriene North, Amy North and Irlena North, all of Moss Point; a son, Alonzo Freeman of Columbia, S.C.; three stepdaughters, Willie Mae Wiley, Denise Wiley and Yvonne Smith, all of Moss Point; three stepsons, Kenneth Wiley, Eddie Graham and Darrell Graham, all of Moss Point; her stepfather, William Stots of Atmore; five sisters, Doris Johnson of Milton, Fla., Sarah Flavors of Atmore, Elizabeth Rivers and Edna Humphrey, both of Boston, and Marion English of Bay Minette; five brothers, Calvin Stots and Daniel Freeman, both of Atmore, William Stots of Indiana, David Stots of Texas and Willie Stots of Boston; three stepsisters, Arnita Young and Sarah Fisher, both of Birmingham, and Wanda Jackson of Columbus, Ga.; three stepbrothers, Tommie Rogers, Michael Rogers and Melvin Rogers, all of Birmingham; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 7 tonight at Church of the Living God Temple No. 42 in Pascagoula. Another service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore with burial in Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore. Richmond Funeral Home of Biloxi is handling arrangements.

John W. Morgan
BIG BEAR CITY, Calif. - John William Morgan, a native and former resident of Choctaw County, Ala., died Wednesday at an area hospital. He was 75.
Morgan was a resident of Big Bear City. A veteran of World War II, he had worked as a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Ludie Mae Morgan; and a son, John L. Morgan, both of Big Bear City; a daughter, Jeanette Morgan Anderson of Davenport, Fla.; a brother, Robert Morgan of Butler, Ala.; three sisters, Nettie Turner and Eula Lee Miller, both of Vernon, Fla., and Lennie Norton of Toxey, Ala.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler, with services at 3 p.m. Saturday. Burial will take place in Loma Vista Cemetery in Brea, Calif.

Suzanne I. Crawford
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Suzanne Ivey Crawford, a resident of Asheville who had lived in Mobile for 30 years, died Wednesday in a traffic accident in High Point, N.C. She was 78.
Mrs. Crawford completed her education in Staunton, Va. She had worked for state Rep. Charles Taylor of North Carolina and served on the county Republican Executive Committee.
She was a docent for Smith McDowell House in Asheville and was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jack A. Crawford of Asheville; five daughters, Starr Flynn, Elizabeth Allenbach, Jacqualyn Daughton, Elaine Wagner and Betsy Calton; four sisters, Dorothy Webb, Frances Plunkett, Mildred Buck and Elizabeth McNairy; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in North Carolina.
Memorials may be made to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 102 Andrew Place, P.O. Box 99, Swannanoa, NC 28778.

Myrtle C. Westfaul
CONROE, Texas - Myrtle Cole Westfaul, a native of Bessemer, Ala., and a former longtime resident of Mobile, died Sunday.
Mrs. Westfaul, a homemaker, had resided in Conroe for the past several years and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
Survivors include her son, Robert Lee Westfaul Jr. of Cypress, Texas; three daughters, Barbara Kiker of Seabrook, Texas, Sandra Southern of Conroe and Joan Merchant of Kemah, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, with viewing at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Pines mausoleum chapel.

Lois T. Vicknair
BATON ROUGE, La. - Lois Tate Vicknair, a former resident of Mobile, died Wednesday at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Vicknair was a native of Denham Springs, La., and also formerly lived in Alexandria, La.
Survivors include her husband, Rene M. Vicknair Sr.; a son, Rene M. Vicknair Jr. of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Eugenie Gluth of New Orleans, Lila Glankler of Charlotte, N.C., and Carole Cordes of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Jeanette Dunn of Baton Rouge and Lila Garrison of Denham Springs; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, with Rabenhorst Funeral Home of Baton Rouge in charge.

Billie J. Beech
Billie Joyce Beech, a retired special education teacher with the Mobile County Public School System, died Friday after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 64.
Ms. Beech was a native of Pascagoula and a resident of Mobile.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Beech; two sons, David Beech and Daniel Beech all of California; a sister, Betty Dean of Albany, Ga.; and a brother, Henry W. Rhodes of Chicago.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:30 to the 3 p.m. funeral service at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.

Anne E. Brasell
Anne Elizabeth "Libba" Dial Brasell, a longtime medical assistant, died Wednesday. She was 82.
Mrs. Brasell, a native of Nanafalia and a resident of Mobile, worked during World War II for the Mobile Maritime Corp. She was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church and a former member of Toulminville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Travis Cecil Brasell Sr.; three sons, John C. Cannon Jr. of St. Elmo, Travis Cecil Brasell Jr. of Gadsden, and Raymond Matthew "Matt" Brasell of Mobile; one brother, Matt P. Dial Jr. of Fairhope; and seven grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Madge A. Carter
Madge A. Carter, a homemaker, died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. Carter was a native of Alabama and a member of Magnolia Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Rolland William Carter of Mobile; a son, James William Carter of Maryland; a daughter, Jane Warzecha of Virginia; five sisters, Sammie Pridgen, Mable Bowen, Ethel Drue Terry, Mary Moorer and Aileen Lee, all of Mobile; a brother, William E. Andress of Mobile; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services are scheduled for noon today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Regina G. Gipson
Regina Gwendolyn Gipson, a native of Prichard and resident of Chickasaw, died Thursday at a local health care facility.
She is survived by her husband, James Pat Gipson of Chickasaw; two sons, Terry Guthrie and Alvin Toenes of Mobile; one daughter, Deborah Vaughan of Chickasaw; two stepsons, Paul Gipson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Darrell Gipson of Kushla; one brother, J.E. Strickland of St. Elmo; three sisters, Mavoneen Weaver of Lake Charles, La., Maidia Rheney of Atlanta and Neala Powell of Naperville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.

Crilla M. Jordan
Graveside services were held Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery for Crilla Mansfield Jordan, a native of Monticello, Ark., and resident of Baton Rouge, La.
She is survived by four daughters, Dottie Carter of Baton Rouge, and Bettye Eaker, Susie Jeffries and Charlotte Roper of Mobile; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Radney Funeral Home in Saraland.

Irma Wyrosdic
Irma Lee Pugh Wyrosdic, a native and resident of Mobile, died Thursday at a local hospital.
Mrs. Wyrosdic, who was retired from Brookley Air Force Base, was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Samuel J. Wyrosdic of Mobile; one son, Eric Wyrosdic of Philadelphia; one daughter, Donna Lierheimer of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Virgie Akridge of Lillian and Elvia Pugh of Pensacola; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Pine Crest Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

BUTLER COUNTY

Virginia L. Cassady
FORT DEPOSIT - Virginia Louise Cassady, a retired registered nurse for the Butler County Health Department, died Wednesday at L.V. Stabler Hospital in Greenville. She was 72.
Mrs. Cassady, a native of Hot Springs, Ark., and resident of Fort Deposit, was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, W.R. "Bill" Cassady of Fort Deposit; two children, Magistrate William E. "Billy" Cassady of Mobile and Jessica "Jessie" Cassady Guyer of Lamoille, Nev.; a sister, Betty Parker Morgando of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home of Greenville. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Myrtlewood Cemetery in Fort Deposit.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.

Vera G. Guy
GROVE HILL - Vera Grace Guy, a resident of Grove Hill, died Thursday at a Jackson health care facility. She was 83.
Mrs. Guy worked as a dietary assistant at a Jackson nursing home.
She is survived by two sons, Ed Guy and Charles Guy of Grove Hill; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Overton of Grove Hill; one sister, Janie Gates of Thomasville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. today at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill, followed by services at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill.

MONROE COUNTY

Erskin L. Bailey
FRISCO CITY - Erskin L. Bailey, a native of Monroe County and resident of Frisco City, died Thursday at a Mobile hospital. He was 61.
Bailey owned his own farm and leased many acres of land around Monroe County for farming. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Bailey of Frisco City; two sons, Timothy Bailey of Uriah and Ronald Bailey of Hawkinsville, Ga.; one daughter, Teresa Bailey Waters of Excel; three brothers, Harvey Bailey of Frisco City, and Franklin Bailey and Ivey Bailey, both of Mobile; three sisters, Ethel Stinson and Ruth Melton, both of Frisco City, and Faye Guy of Mobile; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Central Church of Christ in Ollie, Ala. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30329, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
Arrangements are by Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville.

Rachelle L. Cassity
HUNTSVILLE - Dr. Rachelle Lynne Cassity, a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and resident of Huntsville, died Friday at a local hospital.
Miss Cassity, who earned her medical degree in 1991 from the University of South Alabama, was an assistant professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville School of Medicine. She was also on staff at Huntsville Hospital.
Her memberships included the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Madison County Medical Society. She was treasurer of the Tennessee Valley Branch of the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians.
She is survived by her parents, Cecil and Linda Cassity of Huntsville; two sisters, Ginger Kirsopp of New Hope and Kelly Daniels of Mobile; and her maternal grandmother, Josephine Turrittin of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville. Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at Whitesburg Baptist Church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pine Crest West Cemetery.

Benjamin S. Stover
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday for Benjamin S. Stover, a retired insurance underwriter who lived in the Mobile area for a number of years.
Stover, 85, died Sept. 15 in an Annandale, Va., nursing home. Burial was in Quantico National Cemetery.
A native of Lewisville, Texas, Stover served as a Navy Reserve lieutenant commander during World War II. He worked for insurance companies in Chicago and Mobile and retired two years ago to Alexandria, Va., where he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Raphaele Stover of Alexandria, Va.; four children, Angela Anderson and Benjamin Stover II of Alexandria, James Stover of Plano, Texas and Daniel Stover of Mobile; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria.
