MOBILE COUNTY
Glenn N. Norton
Glenn N. "Woody" Norton, who had served in the U.S. Marine Corps, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 69.
Norton was a native of Lansing, Mich., and a resident of Mobile for the past 10 years.
He was a member of the Spanish Fort Assembly of God Church and Toulmin Lodge No. 875 F&AM. He was a 33rd Degree Mason.
Survivors include two sons, Donald O. Norton of Lucedale, Miss., and Dan Allen Norton of Tennessee; and a grandson.
Memorial services will take place at a later date. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in handling arrangements.
J. J. Osborne II
Jimmie Jerald "Jerry" Osborne II, who had worked as a security guard for the Mobile Greyhound Park, died Sunday in a traffic accident. He was 25.
Osborne, a native of Mobile, was a resident of Saraland. He graduated from LeFlore High School in 1993.
Survivors include his parents, Jimmie and Teresa Osborne; and three sisters, Patricia Blackmon, Kayla Marie Blackmon and Katheryn Elizabeth Blackmon, all of Saraland; and his grandfather, Guy R. Jackson Sr. of Mount Vernon.
Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Cecilia Cemetery in Mount Vernon, with Freeman Funeral Home of Citronelle in charge.
Richard A. Philips
Richard Alan "Rap" Philips, a native and resident of Mobile, died Saturday after a lengthy illness. He was 38.
Survivors include his mother, Velma D. Philips, and his sister, Linda Carol Philips, both of Mobile.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, where services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Dawes Cemetery.
Paula J. Richardson
Paula Jean Richardson, a retired caregiver, died Sunday at a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 42.
Mrs. Richardson was a native and resident of Axis, where she was a member of St. Andrew's Chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Darryl Richardson of Axis; and a sister, JoAnn Franks of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Services are scheduled for noon Wednesday at St. Andrew's Chapel. Burial will be in Creola Cemetery.
Mary F. Taylor
Mary F. Taylor, a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church, died Saturday in a local hospital.
Mrs. Taylor was a native of Haleyville, Ala., and a resident of Mobile.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette T. Rounsaville of Dauphin Island and Linda Ward of Mobile; a sister, Clara Thompson of Guntersville, Ala.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services took place Monday at Christ United Methodist Church with burial in Mobile Memorial Gardens, Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home directing.
Memorials may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund.
ESCAMBIA COUNTY
William F. Corman
ATMORE — William Franklin "Bill" Corman, who had been the second president of the Atmore Chamber of Commerce, died Sunday. He was 83.
Corman, who had served as vice president of Touch 1, was a native of Louisville, Ky.
A graduate of the University of Oregon and Harvard University, he had been president of Southland Telephone Co. and held various positions in telephone associations.
Corman was founding director of the Atmore United Fund and Escambia Academy. He was also a former president and member of the Atmore Lions Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Atmore where he was a former ruling elder.
He served as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Jim Corman of Atmore; three daughters, Julie Johnson and Myna Hayles, both of Atmore, and Paige Jones of Pensacola; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services are set for 3 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Atmore, with visitation in the church's Fellowship Hall immediately following the services. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home of Atmore in charge.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church; or the Lions Club Community Center.
WASHINGTON COUNTY
Samuel A. Moorer
FRANKVILLE — Samuel Alfred "Sam" Moorer, who had worked as a maintenance foreman for Ciba-Geigy, died Sunday at a hospital in Chatom, Ala. He was 66.
Moorer, a native and resident of Frankville, was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the Gideons.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lou Moorer of Frankville; two sons, Mike Moorer of Rockhill, S.C., and Mark Moorer of Frankville; a daughter, Gayle M. Lindsey of Pace, Fla.; a brother, Charles H. Moorer of San Mateo, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with burial in Friendship Baptist Cemetery.
Laura E. Nichols
McINTOSH — Laura Estelle Nichols, a homemaker, died Sunday at her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Nichols, a native of Leakesville, Miss., attended Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Leck Nichols of Fairford, Ala., and Wayne Nichols of Lucedale, Miss.; four daughters, Janice Baxter, Joanne Lane and Voncille Holmes, all of McIntosh, and Ida Williams of Tibbie, Ala.; two sisters, Pearl Clarke and Mavis Lememitre, both of Leakesville; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services is set for 10 a.m. today at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.

William T. Capps Jr.
PENSACOLA — William Thomas Capps Jr., a native and resident of Mobile, died Sunday in a Pensacola hospital. He was 56.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred M. Capps of Pensacola; a daughter, Stacey Louis Capps of Westminster, Colo.; and a sister, Marilyn Coker of Citronelle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope. No services are planned.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or a favorite charity.
George M. Harbin
WINFIELD, Ala. — George Morris Harbin died Monday at his home. He was 79.
Survivors include four sons, Alton Harbin of Tuscaloosa, Dairell Harbin and Dennis Harbin, both of Northport, Ala., and Steve Harbin of Semmes; a daughter, Lana Kay Jones of Fort Hood, Texas; a brother, L.E. "Ed" Harbin of Winfield; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Miles Funeral Home in Winfield. Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday in Winfield City Cemetery.
James W. Ziglar
DAVISVILLE, Fla. — James Walter Ziglar, a native of Escambia County, Ala., and resident of Davisville, died Sunday at a Pensacola hospital. He was 83.
Ziglar retired from St. Regis "Champion" Paper Mill. He was a member of Pine Barren Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Leo Dunson Ziglar of Davisville; a son, Dwight Ziglar of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Winifred Ziglar Hollingsworth of Tallahassee, Fla.; four stepdaughters, Del Freeman of Orlando, Fla., Mary Dunson and Robbie Dunson, both of Winter Haven, Fla., and Donna Dunson of Atlanta; three sisters, Alma Grimes of Walnut Hill, Fla., Amanda Godwin and Lillie Bell Milstead, both of Oak Grove; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, Ala., where services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Serenity Gardens.
Rayford Wesley Daniel
POINT CLEAR — Rayford Wesley Daniel, 86, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999.
The Point Clear resident was a World War II veteran and a member of the Point Clear Baptist Church. He was a native of Franklin.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian D. Daniel of Point Clear; two sons, Ken Lambert of Titusville, Fla., and Bill Lambert of Montgomery; two daughters, Maxine Sulser of Greensboro and Clara Langford of Fairhope; two sisters, Ruby Lambert of Birmingham and Iola Ritter of Mobile; 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Harry Porter, Billy Lambert and Barry Hughes. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Fairhope.
Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.
Frank Orison Barber
FAIRHOPE — Frank Orison Barber, 79, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Mercy Medical in Daphne.
A long-time resident of Fairhope and Daphne, he was a native of Knoxville, Tenn. Barber was the retired owner of Gulf Coast Auto Damage Appraisal in Mobile. He served as a Marine during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria Vowell Barber of Daphne; four sons, Michael M. Barber of Daphne, Joseph F. Barber of Foley, Peter H. Barber of Mobile and Charles D. Barber of Queensland, Australia; a daughter, Gay Ann Dean of Fairhope; a sister, Rose Mary Ballard of Maryville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service and burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Daphne.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Fairhope United Methodist Church Building Fund or Mercy Medical in Daphne.
Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home in Daphne.
Paul Frank Surrey
ELBERTA — Paul Frank Surrey Sr., a native and resident of Elberta, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Surrey of Elberta; five daughters, Cindy Soloman and Shirley Tew, both of Andalusia, Carol Commander and Anita Wilkinson both of Florala and Denise Samarco of Pensacola; two sons, Paul F. Surrey Jr. of Robertsdale and Charles Stokes of Andalusia; one sister, Helen Wright of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Rudolph Surrey of Lillian; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Elberta. Burial will take place in the Elberta Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 tonight at Mack Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.
