MOBILE COUNTY

Rachel C. Anglin
Rachel C. Anglin, a native of George County, Miss., and longtime resident of Mobile, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 79.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Richard E. Anglin Sr.; a daughter, Patricia Anglin; a son, Richard E. Anglin Jr.; and a sister, Cleola Seignous, all of Mobile; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 7 at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pine Crest Cemetery.

Marie V. Dixon
Marie V. Dixon, a former board member of the U.J. Robinson Adult Center, died Thursday at a Chicago hospital at the age of 93.
Mrs. Dixon, 93, resided in Mobile. A native of Whatley, Ala., she had attended Clarke County schools and graduated from Thomasville Normal and Industrial High School.
After moving to Mobile she joined Franklin Street Missionary Baptist Church and participated in many areas of church work. She was a member of Women Bible Class No. 11 and the senior choir. She served as general president of the senior Missionary Department for more than 30 years before becoming president emeritus.
She was a former first vice president of the Mobile Sunlight District Women's Convention.
Among her many affiliations, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Eleanor Chapter No. 62, where she was a worthy matron for a number of years. In 1973, the Marie V. Dixon Chapter No. 875 Order of the Eastern Star was organized and named in her honor.
Among her survivors are a brother, Clifton Ruggs Sr. of Fort Myers, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Franklin Street Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Johnson-Allen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Seaborn Johnson Jr.
Seaborn Macey Johnson Jr., who retired as a counselor with the state of Alabama's Vocation Rehabilitation Department, died Monday. He was 63.
Johnson, a native and longtime resident of Mobile, had worked as an instructor at Hearin-Chandler YMCA and for many years had been involved with the Mobile recreation department's softball program.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he was active as a lay Eucharistic minister and a lay reader.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Cowles Johnson of Mobile; a son, Seaborn Macey Johnson III of Germantown, Tenn.; a daughter, Laura Hall Johnson of Mobile; his mother, Jesslyn Talley Johnson of Mobile; a sister, E. Leland "Lynn" Kitts of Hendersonville, N.C.; and three grandsons.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Christ Episcopal Church, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. in the church's Chapter Hall. Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or to a favorite charity.
Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street is in charge of arrangements.

Theophlius Montgomery
Theophlius Montgomery, a former mechanic with Brunson Construction Co., died Sunday at a local hospital.
Montgomery, 75, was a lifelong Mobilian.
Survivors include two sons, four sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be at Lovett's Funeral Chapel on Friday from 5 p.m. until the 6 p.m. services begin.

Easter Morgan
Easter Estelle Houseman Morgan, a Mobile homemaker, died Saturday at a local hospital She was 84.
Mrs. Morgan, who enjoyed cooking, was a native of Coffee Springs, Ala., but spent most of her life in the Mobile and Prichard areas.
Survivors include eight children, James Paul "J.P." Morgan, Christine Lee Ott, Charles Raymond "Ray" Morgan, Howard Lamont Morgan, Kenneth Wayne Morgan, Juanita Estelle Morgan Seibert, Richard Steven Morgan and Bruce Eugene Morgan; 28 grandchildren; more than 50 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services took place Tuesday at Pine Crest Cemetery.

Leroy Williams
Leroy "Pie" Williams, an L&N Railroad retiree, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 93.
Williams, a native of Coffeeville, Ala., resided in Prichard. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a member of the men's chorus.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth L. Williams of Prichard; a daughter, Agnes L. McMillan of Mobile; a stepson, Kimmie Lee Daniels of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. A second viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 131 July Avenue, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin. Burial will be at Whispering Pines Cemetery.

CHOCTAW COUNTY

Sarah J. Hendrix
TOXEY — Sarah Jeanette Hendrix, a former seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills, died Monday at her Toxey home.
Mrs. Hendrix, 76, was an Alabama native.
Survivors include her husband, McDuffie Hendrix, and three sons, Charles Hendrix, David Hendrix and Darrin Hendrix, all of Toxey; seven daughters, Marjorie Gibbs of Selma, Annette Kaiser of Mobile, Wanda Davis of Shelbyville, Tenn., Kathy Pritchett and Martha Bivens, both of Meridian, Miss., Delories Miller of Toxey and Debbie Anderson of Gilbertown, Ala.; two sisters, Sadie Donald of Gilbertown and Blanche Horn of Saraland; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Tallawampa Baptist , with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Gilbertown.
Bumpers Funeral Home of Gilbertown is handling arrangements.

CLARKE COUNTY

Henry M. Downey
THOMASVILLE — Henry Marion "Zeke" Downey, who had owned and operated Zeke's Service Station for 48 years, died Monday at his home. He was 74.
Downey, a native resident of Thomasville, was a member of Thomasville United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Downey, and a son, Scotty Downey, both of Thomasville; a daughter, Sue Downey Rocker of Sanibel Island, Fla.; two sisters, Grace Megginson of Thomasville and Mary Ann Ricketts of Millers Ferry, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Thomasville United Methodist Church, with burial at Choctaw Corner Cemetery.
O'Byrant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville is handling arrangements.

Mary Clark
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — Mary Anne Lightsey Clark, a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Ocean Springs area, died Monday in Biloxi. She was 79.
Mrs. Clark, a graduate of Biloxi High School, earned her associate's degree in home economics from Perkinston Junior College. Her many civic involvements included the Gulf Coast Genealogical Society, local and state PTA, Boy and Girl Scouts and the Postal Workers Auxiliary. She was a member of the Missionary Rose Petal Society of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
She was an avid bridge player, gardener and historian.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Oberlies of Gulfport; two sons, Dr. Alvah E. Clark Jr. of Mobile and Ted Clark of Ocean Springs; a sister, Elizabeth L. Perry of Hattiesburg, Miss.; a brother, Capt. Thomas "Buddy" Nolan Lightsey Jr. of Houston; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be Thursday night from 6 to 8 at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home's Ocean Springs Chapel. Services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Biloxi City Cemetery.

Hazel E. Pepperman
BAY MINETTE — Hazel Elizabeth Robertson Pepperman of Bay Minette died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Oakwood - North Baldwin's Center for Living. Mrs. Pepperman, 85, was a retired committee clerk for the Alabama State Legislature.
Survivors include her son, Ed Pepperman Jr. of Bay Minette; a daughter, Jeanne Pepperman Pederson of Brookfield, Wis.; a sister, Winifred Byrne of Foley; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Bay Minette. The Rev. George Sedberry will officiate and burial will take place at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service time, at the church.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church building fund, P.O. Box 338, Bay Minette, AL 36507 or to the United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 859, Selma, AL 36702-0859.
Arrangements are by Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.

Hugh Blackwood
SPANISH FORT — Hugh Blackwood, a native of Hendersonville, Tenn., and a resident of Spanish Fort, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at a local hospital. He was 90.
Blackwood was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga., and a past vice-president of the former Citizens and Southern National Bank in Atlanta.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Blackwood of Spanish Fort; two sons, Bill Blackwood of Spanish Fort and David Blackwood of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; two sisters, Leslie Borum of Ashland City, Tenn., and Lucelia Reed of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Jim Blackwood of Jackson, Miss.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Henry Funeral Home in Lithonia, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, and burial will be in Hillandale Memory Gardens.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga.
Local arrangements are by Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.

Donna M. O'Farrell
Donna Marie O'Farrell, homemaker and resident of Mobile for the past eight years, died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 59.
Mrs. O'Farrell was a native of North Chicago, Ill.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne O'Farrell of Mobile; two daughters, Vickie Miehrke of Molino, Fla., and Shawn Johnson of Augusta, Ga.; a son, John Jackson of Molino; two sisters, Virginia Starshina Liskey and Barbara Liskey; and four brothers, Ronald Liskey, Howard Liskey, Richard Liskey and William Liskey, all of Illinois; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday at Overlook Christian Church, with visitation in the church's Fellowship Hall beginning at 3 p.m. Arrangements are by Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.
Memorials may be made to Overlook Christian Church or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Franklin D. Smith Sr.
Franklin Delano Smith Sr. who retired from Sears after 28 years, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 66.
A native Mobilian, Smith was a resident of Prichard. He was a veteran of the armed forces.
Survivors include three sons, Franklin Delano Smith Jr. of Citronelle, Darran Smith of Chunchula and Kevin Smith of Prichard; a brother, Leon Smith; a sister, Eralee Lamey of Tillman's Corner; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Wolf Ridge Cemetery.

William H. Rhody
William H. Rhody a former electrician with Alabama Dry Docks, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 76.
Rhody was a native of Louisville, Ky., and a resident of Mobile. He was a veteran of the armed forces.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Lou Acree Rhody.
A memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are by Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.

Helen W. Robbins
Helen Windsor Robbins, a former educator in a number of school systems, died Tuesday at her residence. She was 77.
Mrs. Robbins, a native of Birmingham and resident of Mobile, was a renowned violinist.
She is survived by a daughter, Helen Vane Robbins of Mobile; and one grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 7 tonight at Gilmer's Funeral Home on Zeigler Boulevard.

Josephine Weaver
MOUNT VERNON — Josephine Weaver, a homemaker, died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 66.
She was a native and resident of Mount Vernon, where she attended St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Survivors include her mother, Louise Weaver of Mount Vernon; four sons, Sterling Melton Weaver of Eight Mile, Fred Edward Weaver of Atmore, Ala., Darrel Wayne Weaver of Mount Vernon and Chris L. Weaver of McIntosh, Ala.; eight daughters, Birtlee Taylor of McIntosh, Barbara N. Byrd, Cathy Weaver, Nancy Weaver and Ann Taylor, all of Mount Vernon, Sally Smith of Georgetown, Ala., Florence Campbell of Citronelle and Juanita Johnston of Creola; four brothers, Willard Weaver, Ted Weaver, Donald Weaver and Wilson Weaver, all of Mount Vernon; five sisters, Jettie Weaver of McIntosh, Lillie Weaver, Nellie Weaver and Juanita Weaver, all of Mount Vernon, and Rita Weaver of Citronelle; 28 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery.

BALDWIN COUNTY

James R. Crocker
STAPLETON — James Robert Crocker, an electronic technician with Kellogg, Brown & Root, died Sept. 23 at a Mobile hospital. He was 42.
A native of Jackson, Ala., Crocker was a resident of Stapleton. He was a member of the VFW Club in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda J. Crocker of Stapleton; his father, John W. Crocker of Jackson; two sons, James Wiatt Crocker of Stapleton and Gregory Roberts of Bay Minette; three daughters, Maggie Crocker and Ivy Crocker, both of Stapleton, and Jessica Roberts of Bay Minette; and a brother, John Edward Crocker of Canton, Mich.
Services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Stapleton.

Michael G. Smith
SPANISH FORT — Michael George Smith, a native of West Virginia and resident of Spanish Fort, died Tuesday after a sudden illness. He was 23.
Survivors include his mother, Darlene Marie Weitbrecht of Monroe County, W.Va.; his father, Dennis Junior Smith of Paducah, Ky.; a son in Peterstown, W.Va.; his companion, Debbie Packenham and her children; five brothers, Keith Jackson and Duwayne Jackson of Spanish Fort, D.J. Smith of Mebane, N.C., and Christopher Smith and Matthew Smith, both of West Virginia; and two sisters, Regina Marshall of Paducah and Rachelle Cozort of Monroe County, W.Va.
Visitation will be at 3 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. A parlor service is scheduled at 4 p.m.

Eula Mae Anderson
WHATLEY — Eula Mae Anderson, a homemaker and member of Amity Baptist Church, died Wednesday in Tuscaloosa. She was 78.
Mrs. Anderson was a Clarke County native and resident of Whatley.
Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Gates of Thomasville, Ala., and Faye Hicks of Whatley; a son, Don Anderson of Whatley; a sister, Loraine Anderson of Mexia, Ala.; a brother, James Bodie McKinley of Whatley; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 this evening at Amity Baptist Church, where services are set for 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Whatley.
Arrangements are by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville.

Minnie O. Chance
JACKSON — Minnie Ola Chance, a Jackson homemaker, died Tuesday at her home. She was 82.
Mrs. Chance, a native of Dickinson, Ala., was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She was a secretary for the Lora B. McCorquodale Circle.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Lamar Chance of Jackson; a daughter, Linda Chance Seale of Mobile; and two granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Jackson. Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson.

James R. Marshall
JACKSON — James Rayford "Rip" Marshall, a former maintenance supervisor with Vanity Fair Mills, died Monday at a hospital in Tuscaloosa. He was 71.
A native of Monroeville, Ala., Marshall was a resident of Jackson.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Marshall of Walker Springs, Ala.; a daughter, Elizabeth M. McDonald of Tuscaloosa; a brother, Clyde C. "Buck" Marshall Jr. of Monroeville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. today in Monroeville Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.

MONROE COUNTY

Mattie Luker
EXCEL — Mattie Mae Burkett Luker, a member of the Pentecostal Church of Excel, died Tuesday at a local nursing facility. She was 87.
Mrs. Luker, a homemaker, was a resident of Excel.
Survivors include a son, Theo Luker of Mobile; three daughters, Linda Stokes and Audrey Tidwell of Excel, and Diane Johnson of Lilburn, Ga.; two sisters, Clara Jenkins of Monroeville, Ala., and Gladys Black of Mobile; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville, where services are set for 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Excel Cemetery.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Freeman T. Keener
FRANKVILLE — Freeman Turner Keener, who formerly worked as a laborer, died Wednesday at a hospital in Waynesboro, Miss. He was 78.
Keener, an Alabama native, was a resident of Frankville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his son, Norman T. Turner; and a brother, Towner Keener, both of Mobile.
Graveside services are set for 4 p.m. today in Bladon Springs Cemetery in Bladon Springs, Ala. Arrangments are by Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler, Ala.

Dave Thomas
PENSACOLA 73151; The Rev. Dave Thomas, a native of Stockton and resident of Pensacola, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 58.
Thomas was pastor of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Pensacola.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Thomas; his mother, Millie Thomas of Pensacola; four daughters, Valarie Hall, Treneshia Williams, LaQuonna Thomas of Pensacola and LaKesha Thomas of Atlanta; four sons, Daryl Thomas and Joseph Thomas of Waynesville, Mo., David Thomas of Pensacola and Patrick W. Pleasant of Durham, N.C.; seven sisters, Annie Webster, Emma Flowers, Shirley House, Gwendolyn Nichols and Dorothy Andrews, all of Pensacola, Helen Pleasant of Ontario, Calif., and the Rev. Maxine McCants of Mobile; three brothers, Joe Louis Thomas, Curtis Thomas of Pensacola, and Woodrow Thomas of Clinton, Md.; and 17 grandchildren.
Services are set for 1 p.m. today at New Faith Baptist Church in Pensacola, with burial in Eastern Gate Cemetery. Arrangements are by Joe Morris Funeral Home in Pensacola.
