Doc Henry Rickerson
CONCORD, N.C. - Doc Henry Rickerson, 89, of Trinity Church Drive, died Feb. 28, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Rickerson retired as the owner of Casa Loma Restaurant and Parkwood Garage, both in DeLand. Born in Macon, Ga., he lived in West Volusia for 70 years, moving to North Carolina in 1990.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Concord.
Mr. Rickerson served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Wentz Rickerson; a son, Thad Henry of Neptune Beach; a daughter, Linda R. Clonts of Rome, Ga.; two sisters, Margaret R. Lee of DeLand and Novella R. McClellan of Vidalia, Ga.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Sanctuary Renovation Fund, 3747 Trinity Church Road, Concord, NC 28027. Carpenter Curry was in charge.

Thelma Garner Smith
DELAND - Thelma Garner Smith, 91, of Chipola Avenue, died Feb. 29, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Smith retired as a medical secretary for the veterans hospital in Johnson City, Tenn., after more than 30 years. Born in Glenn Springs, S.C., she moved to this area from Miami in 1972.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Deltona and the Sierra Club. She graduated from several civil-service institutes to further her career at the veterans hospital. She loved animals and raised Chihuahuas.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a nephew who provided for her care, Terence E. Garner of Homestead.
Deltona Memorial was in charge.

Annetta V. Stokes
DELAND - Annetta V. Stokes, 87, of South Adelle Avenue, died March 1, 2000, in Lake Helen.
Ms. Stokes retired as a schoolteacher. She moved to this area many years ago from her hometown of Live Oak.
She was a member of Greater Union First Baptist Church in DeLand, where she served on the finance committee, and as a musician and a Sunday school teacher and was active in the church's Mission Ministry. She also was the district musician for Mount Zion Northeast Coast District Missionary Baptist Association of Florida. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, American Association of University Woman, Evergreen Woman's Club and Volusia Educators Association.
Ms. Stokes earned a bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University and received a master's degree from Columbia University.
She is survived by three cousins, Carolyn Ivey of Daytona Beach, George Mixon of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Spencer Pompey of Delray Beach; her caregivers, Linda Jackson of DeLand and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Cherry Sr. of Lake Helen; her friends, Minerva Watson, Janie King, Melba Lee and Ada DeShazier; and many other friends.
Arthur Mack was in charge. Services were Sunday at the Arthur Mack Funeral Home, with Zeta Phi Sorority in charge, and Monday at Greater Union First Baptist, with the Rev. Troy A. Bradley Sr. officiating.

Horace Francis Strauss
DELAND - Horace Francis Strauss, 74, of Woodland Circle, died March 1, 2000, at Memorial Hospital-West Volusia.
Mr. Strauss retired in 1989 as a truck driver for Rich Hill Transportation in Flemington, N.J. He served as a police officer for the Washington (N.J.) Police Department. Born in Easton, Pa., he moved to this area in 1989 from Washington.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Barberville and American Legion Post 259 in Orange City.
Mr. Strauss is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Rabenold Strauss; a son, Horace E. of DeLand; three daughters, Marsha F. Smith and Linda Bower, both of DeLand, and Lisa Gonder of Port Murray, N.J.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Allen-Summerhill was in charge.

Oliver Jennings Terrell
ORANGE CITY - Oliver Jennings Terrell, 88, of Northlake Drive, died March 3, 2000, at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.
Mr. Terrell retired in 1995 as a carpenter and painter in the construction industry. Born in Victoria, Va., he moved to this area from Sanford in 1979.
He was Baptist, a member of the Moose Lodge in DeLand and taught visual-impairment classes in DeLand. He enjoyed traveling and liked reading.
Mr. Terrell is survived by a daughter, Jessanna "Tanna" Gartside of DeLand, a sister, Mary Raisner of Nashville, Tenn., and a grandchild.
Memorial donations may be made to the John Knox Employee Christmas Fund, 101 Northlake Drive, Orange City, FL 32763. Carpenter Curry was in charge.

William John Tobin
DELAND - William John Tobin, 77, of North Woodland Boulevard, died Feb. 29, 2000, at Memorial Hospital-West Volusia.
Mr. Tobin retired as a blacksmith. Born in Glenndale, R.I., he moved to this area from Paisley in 1995.
He was a member of Open Air Christian Church in DeLand.
Mr. Tobin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beatrice; two sons, Lon F. of Elizabeth, Tenn., and Daniel R. of Paisley; a sister, Corona Magner of Pascoag, R.I.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to The Duvall Home, P.O. Box 220036, Glenwood, FL 32722. Lankford was in charge.

Lewis E. Wager
DEBARY - Lewis E. Wager, 84, of Kingslake Drive, died Feb. 29, 2000, at Mariner Health of Orange City.
Mr. Wager retired as a foreman for Rensselaer County in New York after 43 years. He moved to Deltona in 1980 from his hometown of Berlin, N.Y., and to DeBary from Deltona in 1994.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Deltona and a volunteer for Berlin Fire and Rescue Squad. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Mr. Wager is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth E.; two daughters, Arlene F. Wager of DeBary and Kathleen A. Primeau of Berlin; two sisters, Emily Feinburg of Philadelphia and Eleanor Alberta Kerns of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Deltona, 1045 E. Normandy Blvd., Deltona, FL 32725. Baldauff was in charge.

Roger W. Wimmer
ORANGE CITY - Roger W. Wimmer, 85, of Inverness Lane, died March 5, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Wimmer retired as the owner and operator of Wimmer's Auto and Radiator Service in his hometown of Allentown, Pa. He moved to this area from Allentown in 1980.
He was a member of the Shriner's Lodge and the Masonic Temple, both in Allentown.
Mr. Wimmer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ida; four daughters, Barbara Queen of Ocala, Patricia Elliott of Alamagorda, N.M., Nancy Coleman of Huntsville, Ohio, and Karen Brearey of Orange City; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Lankford was in charge.

William L. Winfield
DEBARY - William L. Winfield, 69, of Buena Vista Street, died Feb. 29, 2000, at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.
Mr. Winfield was a carpenter in the construction industry. He moved to this area in 1980 from his hometown of Binghamton, N.Y.
He was Methodist.
Mr. Winfield was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora.
Altman-Long was in charge.

Arthur Curtis S.S. Winfrey
NEWPORT, South Wales, Great Britain - Arthur Curtis S.S. Winfrey, 61, a DeLand native, died March 4, 2000.
Mr. Winfrey was a registered psychiatric nurse in London and Florida, and was a genealogist and author. He attended DeLand schools, graduating from DeLand High School in 1956.
He graduated from school at Long Grove Hospital in Surrey, England, and from the General Nursing Council in London in 1963. He became a state registered nurse in London in 1968.
Mr. Winfrey was Roman Catholic and enjoyed gardening, traveling, writing and genealogical research.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Ruth Winfrey. He is survived by a son, Johannes Winfrey of Colorado Springs, a sister, Barbara Krems of DeLand, and one grandchild.

Joyce E. Zamorsky
DELAND - Joyce E. Zamorsky, 81, of North McDonald Avenue, died Feb. 26, 2000, at an area care center.
Mrs. Zamorsky retired as an administrative assistant for Florida Concrete and Products Associaiton. Born in Stillwater, Minn., she moved to this area from Winter Park in 1984.
She is survived by a brother, Donald Thoele of Denver.
Lankford was in charge.
