Irene Smiley Colding
DELAND - Irene Smiley Colding, 85, of Chipola Avenue, died Sept. 12, 2000, at a local care center.
A homemaker, Mrs. Colding was born in Crescent City and moved to DeLand in 1944 from Pierson.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of DeLand. She served as pianist and organist during her husband's many years as pastor of First Baptist Church of Pierson, Calvary Baptist Church in DeLand and Emporia Baptist Church.
Mrs. Colding was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. L.A. Colding. She is survived by a son, Dr. Jim of Cincinnati; two daughters, Janice Williams of DeLand and Marilyn Cook of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, John H. Smiley Sr. of Pierson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 725 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand FL 32720, or to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange FL 32119. Allen-Summerhill was in charge.

Halley F. Cottrill
DELAND - Halley F. Cottrill, 90, of North Stone Street, died Sept. 12, 2000, at Alterra Sterling House of DeLand.
Mr. Cottrill retired as superintendent for the U.S. Postal Service in Clarksburg, W.Va., after 40 years. Born in Wallace, W.Va., he moved to this area from Clarksburg in 1967.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of DeBary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Big Brothers. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and hunting.
Mr. Cottrill served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by two sons, David J. of Pierson and Thomas L. of Cincinnati; a daughter, Judith E. Cornell of Deltona; a sister, Lilas H. Shrader of Bridgeport, W.Va.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange FL 32119. Baldauff was in charge.

Anna M. Coyne
DEBARY - Anna M. Coyne, 86, of Spring Lake Drive, died Sept. 13, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Coyne retired as a secretary for the neurosurgery department at the Lahey Clinic in Boston. Born in Revere, Mass., she moved to this area in 1987 from Sharon, Mass.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Deltona.
Mrs. Coyne is survived by a daughter, Nancy Ann T. Coyne of DeBary, and two grandchildren.
Deltona Memorial was in charge.

Florence P. Dunne
DELTONA - Florence P. Dunne, 79, of Findlay Street, died Sept. 13, 2000, at John Knox Village Medical Center.
Mrs. Dunne retired as an accountant for the Federal National Mortgage Association in Illinois. Born in Tarrytown, N.Y., she moved to this area from Chicago in 1970.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community in Deltona, the Council of Catholic Women, the Deltona Ladies Social Club, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Deltona Civic Association. She enjoyed doing volunteer church work.
Mrs. Dunne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and received the American Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen F. Muir of Holly Hill, a companion and caregiver, Jane Clark of Deltona, and two grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 218-A E. New York Ave., DeLand FL 32724. Baldauff was in charge.

Angel Fernandez-Figuero
DELTONA - Angel Fernandez-Figuero, 77, of Keesler Street, died Sept. 14, 2000, at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.
Mr. Fernandez-Figuero retired as a sergeant from the U.S. Army after 23 years. He was missing in action during the Korean War and received the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He moved to this area in 1976 from his birthplace of Puerto Rico.
He was a foster parent.
Mr. Fernandez-Figuero is survived by his wife, Carmen E.; a son, Christian P. Fernandez of Arizona; a daughter, Aida Melendez of Orange City; a brother, Antonio Fernandez of New York; a sister, Hermania Collazo of Puerto Rico; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Deltona Memorial was in charge.

Elsie Frechette
DELAND - Elsie Frechette, 85, of Evergreen Terrace, died Sept. 12, 2000, at Oakwood Garden of DeLand.
A homemaker, Mrs. Frechette was born in Georgia and moved to this area 28 years ago from Plattsburgh, N.Y.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in DeLand.
Mrs. Frechette is survived by two sons, John and Robert, both of Plattsburgh, a daughter, Joan Adams of Burlington, Vt., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Lankford was in charge.

Earl William Hoffman
DELAND - Earl William Hoffman, 84, of North McDonald Avenue, died Sept. 8, 2000, at Florida Lutheran Health Center.
Mr. Hoffman retired as cemetery superintendent for the Town of East Windsor, Conn. He moved to this area in 1977 from his hometown of Broad Brook, Conn.
He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.
Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife, Mary S., and two sisters, Myrtle Underwood of Broad Brook and Erma Quagliaroli of Windsor Locks, Conn.
Lankford was in charge.

Frances Jean Penansky
DELTONA - Frances Jean Penansky, 44, of Baffin Street, died Sept. 12, 2000, at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.
Mrs. Penansky was a clerk for Circle K stores in Deltona. Born in Mineral Point, Wis., she moved to this area two months ago from Manteno, Ill.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E.; her father, Francis Zaffino of Chicago; two sons, Charlie and Jason, both of Deltona; a daughter, Carri of Deltona; three brothers, Michael and Butch Zaffino, both of Illinois, and Philip Zaffino of Georgia; three sisters, Diane Rogers and Rose Mary Johnson, both of Illinois, and Vicki Ruelle of Wisconsin; and one grandchild.
Deltona Memorial was in charge.

Walter H. Remillard
DEBARY - Walter H. Remillard, 78, of North Woodberry Drive, died Sept. 11, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Remillard retired as a truck driver. He moved to this area in 1989 from his hometown of Worcester, Mass.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3657 in Worcester and St. Ann's Catholic Church in DeBary. He enjoyed bowling and fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Mr. Remillard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Laura M.; a son, Walter R. of Worcester; three daughters, Gloria Lucier of Deltona, Bernadette Daigneault of Apple Valley, Calif., and Rose Letourneau of Millbury, Mass.; two brothers, David of Webster, Mass., and Donald of Leicester, Mass.; two sisters, Rita Clouthier of Dearborn, Mich., and Beatrice Barbour of Webster; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange FL 32119. FourTowns Cremation was in charge.

Theresa Emily Rico
DELAND - Theresa Emily Rico, 73, of East New York Avenue, died Sept. 13, 2000, at University Center East-Genesis Eldercare Network.
A homemaker, Mrs. Rico was born in Gibbstown, N.J., and moved to this area three years ago from Deptford, N.J.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in DeLand. She entertained troops during World War II and sat on Franklin Roosevelt's lap while singing to him.
Mrs. Rico is survived by a son, Arthur of Lindenwold, N.J.; a daughter, Ellen Morelli of DeLand; a stepson, Harry Gilbert of Philadelphia; a stepdaughter, Marsha Pasha of Philadelphia; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland FL 32751. Lankford was in charge.

Grace S. Schenck
ORANGE CITY - Grace S. Schenck, 84, of Pineview Drive, died Sept. 11, 2000, at Oakwood Garden of DeLand.
Mrs. Schenck retired as an accountant for an income-tax company. Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., she moved to Orange City in 1986 from Deltona.
She is survived by a brother-in-law who was her caregiver, William C. Wheeler of Ponte Vedra.
Deltona Memorial was in charge.

Virginia C. Steed
DELAND - Virginia C. Steed, 89, of Shady Hollow Drive, died Sept. 8, 2000, at her home.
A homemaker, Mrs. Steed was born in Maiden, N.C., and moved to this area 12 years ago from Newton, N.C.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Church in DeLand.
Mrs. Steed served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
She is survived by a son, John W. Huss of DeLand, a sister, Cleo M. Coley of Newton, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

George Homer Williams Jr.
DELAND - George Homer Williams Jr., 85, of Grand Avenue, died Sept. 10, 2000, at Memorial Hospital-West Volusia.
Mr. Williams retired as an electronics repairman. Born in Harris County, Ga., he moved to this area 1 1/2 years ago from Marietta, Ga.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Marietta and Masonic Lodge No. 53 in Georgia.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Dorothy P., a son, George H. III of DeLand, a daughter, Loretta M. Long of Huber Heights, Ohio, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lankford was in charge.
