Rev. Orville Boothe
GRANBY, Mo. -- The Rev. Orville Boothe, Granby, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark.
The Rev. Boothe was born Dec. 17, 1909, at Halltown, Mo. He was a lifetime resident of the area and pastored several area churches.
He married Clara Linder on April 30, 1928, at Carthage, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1998.
Survivors include three sons, Danny Boothe, Neosho, Paul Boothe, Blanchard, Okla., and Richard Boothe, Goodman; three daughters, Velma Clausen, Cheney, Kan., Alma Phillips, Mt. Hope, Kan., and Dorothy Adams, Greenwood, Ark.; a brother, Brad Boothe, Sarcoxie; 75 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18 at Granby Miracle Church, Granby. The Rev. Howard Raney of Howard Hill Assembly of God Church in Greenwood, Ark., and the Rev. Wayne Brust of Granby Miracle Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Granby Memorial Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.

Arthur Otto Christian Herzog
Arthur Otto Christian Herzog, 81 years, went to sleep in Jesus at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage.
Arthur was born to Sophie (Bieline) and Trougot Herzog on May 17, 1921, in Frankenmuth, Mich. He received his bachelor's degree from Concordia College, River Forest, Ill., and master's degree from both Concordia Seminary and Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. He served the Lord as a teacher for 40 years. He taught and served as principal at Lutheran Children's Home in St. Louis, Mo., for 23 years. He taught 17 years at Lutherbrook Children's Home in Addison, Ill.
A deeply religious man, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, Mich. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Carthage.
He married Marie Wildgrube on Aug. 11, 1945, in Carthage. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years.
He is also survived by four children and their spouses, John Arthur Herzog and his wife, Marlene, Detroit, Mich., Larry Allen Herzog and his wife, Lourdes, Bensonville, Ill., Mary Paulson and her husband, Bob, Bartlett, Ill., and Martha Green, Woodriver, Ill.; nine grandchildren, David and Scott Herzog, Patrick and Steven Green, Ed and Joe Dolan, Sharon Baumkirschner, Eric and Robert Paulson; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sophie and Trougot Herzog; a stepmother, Rose; three brothers, Floyd, Rudy and Hilbert Herzog; and a sister, Lorene Knoll.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Pastor John Schnakenberg will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. tonight at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.
Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Eunice Harper
Eunice Elizabeth Harper, 84, Carthage, died at 1:57 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage.
Mrs. Harper was born March 21, 1918, at Jasper County, Mo., to Frank E. Lightner and Mary Kennedy Lightner. She married Jim Harper on Sept. 22, 1941, in Columbus, Kan. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1970. She was a homemaker and lived on Route 1, Carthage, for over 40 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Marie Rush, Carthage, and Sharon Ann Garrett, Salina, Okla.; three sons, Jimmie Dean Harper, Tommie Eugene Harper and Gary Harper, all of Carthage; two sisters, Alta Lightner and Grace Roberts, both of Webb City; four grandchildren, Roger Rush and wife Brandi, Jeffrey Rush, Teresa Block and Michelle McMannis, all of Carthage; four great-grandchildren, Josh, Joey, Justin and Jonathan.
Her husband and two brothers preceded her in death.
A family visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at Hackney Cemetery, northeast of Carthage.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.

Grace I. Laythrop
SARCOXIE, Mo. -- Grace I. Laythrop, 80, Carthage, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Sarcoxie Nursing Center.
Mrs. Laythrop was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Carthage to Arch Nelson and Etta Cossey. A lifetime area resident, she was retired from the Safeway Cheese Company, Carthage.
She was a member of the Frisco Church of Webb City.
She married Raymond C. Laythrop, who preceded her in death on July 8, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Turner, Sarcoxie; and a sister, Allean Green, Carthage.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray Laythrop; brothers, Glenn Nelson, Virgil Nelson and Russell Nelson; and one sister.
Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City. Burial was in Carl Junction Cemetery. Pallbearers were family members.

Marjorie A. Whisler
Marjorie A. Whisler, 80, Carthage, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at St. Luke's Nursing Home, Carthage.
Mrs. Whisler was born Sept. 27, 1921, at Carthage to William Nichols and Tillie Roux. She owned and operated Whisler's Drive Up with her husband from 1974-1990.
She married Clarence L. Whisler on Nov. 4, 1940, at Columbus, Kan., and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Charles Whisler, Racine, Wisc.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The body has been taken for cremation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage.

Lloyd G. Pinkley
Lloyd G. Pinkley, 79, Carthage, died at 3:47 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Pinkley was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Buffalo, Mo., to Benjamin and Nellie Irene Pinkley. He attended Chicago Schools in Dallas County, Mo. He was a production worker for Leggett & Platt until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Machinists Local 1475.
He married Grace Edith Phillips on Feb. 14, 1946, in Windyville, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, James Franklin Pinkley, Fort Worth, Texas, Bob Lee Pinkley, and George Wayne Pinkley, both of Carthage; two daughters, Goldie Irene Danner, Carthage, Krista Pauline Fowler, Duenweg; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His parents, two brothers, Cecil Evans, Lee Pinkley; two sisters, Ruth Swigert, Laura Gaunt; and a daughter, Karen Leona Pinkley, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 23 at the Cross Road Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Bob Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Reeds Cemetery, Reeds.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.

Lloyd G. Pinkley
Funeral services for Lloyd G. Pinkley, 79, who died at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at McCune-Brooks Hospital were held at 2 p.m. Friday, may 23, 2003 at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Carthage.
Rev. Bob Morgan officiated. Brother Ron Bragg spoke. Musical selections were "This Old House, " "Amazing Grace," and the Cross Roads Quartet, consisting of Jason Ritchie, Nicholas Ritchie, Luke Bragg and Charlie Davis sang "What a Day that will be."
Pallbearers were Ben Pinkley, Mike Danner, Gary Danner, Gary Ray Danner, Scott Fowler and Brian Meseke. Interment was in the Reeds Cemetery in Reeds. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements under the direction of Knell Mortuary.

Zella "Billie" Mae Nolan
Zella "Billie" Mae Nolan, 85, Carthage, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at St. Luke's Nursing Center.
Mrs. Nolan was born Jan. 9, 1918, at Jasper County, Mo., to Gilbert and Anna Lambeth. She was raised in Jasper County and lived away for about 20 years, returning to Carthage in 1960. She was a homemaker and a volunteer for the Senior Citizens Center.
She married Rufus "Bud" George Nolan, and he preceded her in death in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Remington, Carthage; a brother, Lonnie Lambeth, Carthage; a sister, Dixie Bacon, Carl Junction; two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at First Baptist Church, Carthage. Visitation is set for 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery, south of Jasper.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper.

Florence E. Flemens
SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas -- Florence E. Flemens, 81, Sulphur Springs, Texas, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Flemens was born Sept. 25, 1921, at Jasper County, Mo., to Ora Earther and Mable Salina Payton Skelton. She had lived in Hopkins County since the summer of 1947. She was a homemaker and an entrepreneur. She was a graduate of Forrest Mill School, east of Carthage.
She was a member of the Gafford Chapel United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, CWF Group 4 of First Christian Church, a past worthy matron of Sulphur Springs Chapter No. 718 Order of the Eastern Star.
She married M.R. (Rowe) Flemens on June 25, 1947, in Columbus, Kan., and he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1993.
Survivors include three sons, Ray Flemens, Sulphur Springs, Norman Flemens, Tucson, Ariz., and Norris (Tex) Flemens, Parris, Calif.; a daughter, Diane (Snyder) Ross, Sulphur Springs; two brothers, Eugene Skelton, Seneca, and Ronnie Skelton, Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Myrtle Blades, Republic, Mo., and Viola Gibbe, Apple Valley, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert Lee (Bobby) Snyder, Mike Flemens and Sam Flemens; and two brothers, Fenton Skelton and Charles Skelton.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 16 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Buck and the Rev. Gene Miller officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Mike Briley, George Back, Harold Bryant, Carroll Gibson, Larry Edwards and Don Phillips.
Memorials are suggested to the Gafford Chapel United Methodist Church, Route 4, Box 44, Sulphur Springs, Texas, 75482.
Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home, Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Earl Ree Chastain
MT. VERNON, Mo. -- Earl Ree Chastain, 87, died at 5:03 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Chastain was born Nov. 21, 1915, at Laclede County to Wilford Valentine and Minnie Starks Chastain. He was a carpenter by trade and lived most of his life in the Lawrence County area.
He had been a member of the Northside Baptist Church since 1995.
He married Ruth Patton on March 2, 1940, in Miller, and she survives.
Additional survivors include six daughters, Dorothy Anderson, Carthage, Lucille Bowers and husband Jimmie, Mt. Vernon, Bernice Linder and husband Jackie, Reeds, Kathy Rickets and husband Brent, Arlene Huse; one son, Lloyd Pat Chastain, Nevada; one sister, Effie Pennington, Miller; 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Chastain; a daughter, Linda Marie Chastain Hill; two great-grandsons, Thomas "Tom Tom" Hull III and Kaden Charles Gates Davis; two brothers, Allen and Eddie Chastain; two sisters, Oma Morris and Edna Pennington.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Eldon King officiating. Burial will be in Miller Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's-Dementia Association in care of the funeral home.

Samuel D. Cowgill Sr.
Samuel D. Cowgill Sr., 69, Carthage, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after an illness.
Mr. Cowgill was born July 18, 1933. He graduated from high school and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne. He had owned and operated Woody's Rental, Carthage.
He married Loretta M. Quintard, and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Sam Cowgill Jr., Kenton Cowgill and Dan Cowgill, all of Carthage; a daughter, Brenda Cowgill, Carthage; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at the Carterville Cemetery, Carterville.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 at Housh Funeral Home, Sarcoxie.

Fred "Son" L. Isenmann
JASPER, Mo. - Fred "Son" Louis Isenmann, 84, Jasper, died at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Isenmann was born Aug. 1, 1918, to Fred Louis Sr. and Alice Billington Isenmann in Jasper County. He was co-owner of the Jasper Implement Co. as an International Harvester dealer and was a farmer. He was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church. He served several years on the Jasper R-5 School Board and was a member of the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Irene Tubaugh on July 23, 1941, in Harrisonville, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Sherry Heckman, Vancouver, Wash., Linda Foulks, Joplin, Julie Teater, Lamar; two sisters, Dorothy Zaerr, Jasper and Doris Konantz, Lamar; six grandchildren, Melinda Doyle, Jason Foulks, Bryce Teater, Mike Heckman, John Heckman and Jeff Heckman and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery, east of Jasper.
Memorials are suggested to Community Hospices of America or the Jasper United Methodist Church.

Fred "Son" Louis Isenmann
JASPER, Mo. - Services for Fred "Son" Louis Isenmann, 84, Jasper, who died Thursday, May 22, 2003, were held May 24 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper. The Revs. Cliff Crocket and John Swatosh officiated. Karalyle Flenniken was organist. Kenneth Hoenshell, vocalist, sang "One Day At A Time" and "In the Garden."
Burial was held in Mitchell Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Heckman, John Heckman, Jason Foulks, Bryce Teater, Shawn Doyle and Gary Potter.

Addie May Houser
Addie May Houser, 89, Carthage, died at 1:20 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2003, at St. Luke's Nursing Center.
Mrs. Houser was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Hannibal, Mo., to Ebenezer E. Reynolds and Addie May Silver. She was a homemaker and member of the Jehovah's Witness Church of Carthage.
She married Amon P. Houser on Sept. 10, 1937, in Bowling Green, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Gary Houser, Joplin; a daughter, Sherry Twyman, Burlington, Iowa; a brother, Milton Reynolds, Lancaster, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Houser in 1963 and five brothers.
The body will be cremated.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Carthage. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.

Minnie F. Wisely
LAMAR, Mo. - Minnie F. Wisely, 92, Lamar, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage.
Mrs. Wisely was born March 26, 1912, in Sheldon, Mo., to Charlie and Josie Allen Shepard. She was a homemaker and member of First Assembly of God Church in Lamar.
In 1927 she married Claude Doyle Starlin in Billisca, Iowa. He died in 1958. She married Logan Wisely in 1974 in Sheldon, Mo. He died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Loyd Gene Starlin, Lamar; two daughters, Dessie Slates, Carthage, and Sharon Belline, Lamar; seven step-children, Jack Wisely, Jeanie Simmons, Dorothy McCaslin, Marian Barnes, Norma Mooneyhan, Lucille Hooper and Frank Wisely; 12 grandchildren; 27 stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 28 stepgreat-grancidlren and 10 great-great-granchildren.
Two sons, Edward Starlin and Floyd Starlin, a brother, Allen Shepard, and a sister, Lorna Babcock, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at First Assembly of God Church in Lamar with Dave McLennan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sheldon Cemetery.
Memorials contributions are suggested to the Gideon's International in care of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.
