MOBILE COUNTY

Sarah Aldridge
Sarah Redfield Plumb Aldridge, a former teacher at St. Paul's Episcopal School, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Aldridge, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, was a resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio, before moving to Mobile in 1945.
She was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations. She was a past president of the Historic Mobile Preservation Society, a president of the Navy Officers' Wives Club and a member of the Gray Ladies in Charleston, S.C. She was also a member of the Junior League in Mobile and Charleston, the Parapluie Dance Company, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.
She was an American Red Cross volunteer and a former member of the "As You Like It" literary club.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church
Survivors include her husband, Garet V. Aldridge Sr. of Mobile; a son, U.S. Army chaplain Maj. Garet V. Aldridge Jr. of Katterbach, Germany; a daughter, Sarah Redfield Aldridge Grayson of Mobile; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Bellingrath Hall of Central Presbyterian Church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the noon services in the church. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery with Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in charge.
Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church Foundation Trust or the Historic Mobile Preservation Society.

Perryman Baker Jr.
Perryman Baker Jr., a retiree from Brookley Air Force Base, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 83.
Baker, a native and resident of Mobile, formerly worked with the U.S. Postal Service and at Hank Aaron Stadium. He was recently employed by Wal-Mart .
Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lovett's Funeral Chapel.

Margarette Barnes
Margarette James Barnes, a retiree of the University of South Alabama Medical Center who was former manager of the summer lunch program in the Plateau area, died Oct. 5 at a local hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Barnes, a native of Gosport, Ala., lived in the Plateau-Magazine-Happy Hill area of Mobile. She formerly had been employed with Marshall Durbin.
She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she worked with the Rose of Sharon Club, senior usher board, Sunday school and the Missionary Department, in addition to serving as a counselor for the youth ushers. She was a former member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
After her retirement, she joined the Plateau-Magazine-Happy Hill Action Council, serving as president from April 1993 until becoming president emeritus this past June.
She was a former member of the Mobile Community Organization and a founder of the Plateau Community Center. She had also been a member of the Friends of Africatown U.S.A.
Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Barnes and Rosa Barnes of Mobile; four sons, George Lee English, Rufus Barnes and Melvin Barnes of Mobile, and Lawrence Barnes of Atlanta; and a stepson, J.R. Barnes Jr. of Atlanta; two sisters, Helen James Poe and Florida Bell Collins; a brother, Melvin James; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Union Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the noon services. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Arrangements are by Reese Funeral Home.

Wallace Grogan Sr.
Wallace E. Grogan Sr., a Philadelphia, Miss., native and Chickasaw resident, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 63.
Grogan was a retired security guard.
He is survived by a son, Wallace E. Grogan Jr. of Mobile; a daughter, Freda DuBose of Loxley; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is being planned. Arrangements are by Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.

Loretta Stevens
Loretta Stevens, a native Mobilian and a graduate of Toulminville High School, died Thursday. She was 40.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Stevens and Demarcus Stevens; her mother, Cherry B. Stevens; four sisters, Gussie Cater, Willie Mae Stevens, Melissa Hurd and Jackie King; and four brothers, Thomas Williams, Charles Stevens, George Stevens and John W. Stevens.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. today at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Price Ave. in Prichard, followed by services at noon. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hodge's Funeral Chapel.

BALDWIN COUNTY

Willie M. Howard
FAIRHOPE — Willie Mae Howard, a native of Evergreen, Ala., and resident of Fairhope, died Thursday.
Survivors include six children, Bishop Willie C. Howard of Atmore, Ala., Odell Dortch of Fairhope, Earnest Howard of Woodbridge, Va., Emma Bates of Point Clear and Willie F. Dees and Shelly Howard, both of Brewton, Ala.; a sister, Drucilla Peters of Leakesville, Miss.; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. today at Deliverance Outreach Church in Fairhope, followed by services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Twin Beech Cemetery in Fairhope. Arrangements are by Hodge's Funeral Chapel.

CLARKE COUNTY

William H. Anderson
WALKER SPRINGS — William Hayden Anderson, an infant, died Saturday at a hospital in Grove Hill.
Survivors include his parents, Mark and Kellie Anderson; and a brother, Logan Anderson, all of Walker Springs; his grandparents, Sheila Anderson of Walker Springs, and Jack and Carrol Johnson of St. Stephens, Ala.; and his great-grandparents, Robert McConnell Sr. of Whatley, Ala., Emmie Johnson of St. Stephens, and William and Lois Davidson of Arkansas.
Graveside services are set for 9 a.m. today in Perry's Chapel Cemetery in Perry's Chapel, Ala., with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson, Ala., in charge.

CONECUH COUNTY

Thomas D. Williams
EVERGREEN — Thomas Douglas "Doug" Williams, a gas company employee, died Tuesday at a hospital in Greenville, Ala., after a brief illness. He was 48.
Williams was a native of Conecuh County who resided in Evergreen.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Louise Williams, and his wife, Libby F. Williams, both of Evergreen; a daughter, Monica Williams of Montevallo, Ala.; five brothers, Teddy Williams of Castleberry, Ala., James David Williams Jr. of Monroeville, Ala., Sammy Williams of Greenville, Frank Williams of Evergreen and Dwight Williams of Saraland; and four sisters, Diane Stinson of Evergreen, Becky Booker of Pine Orchard, Ala., Debbie Scrubbs of Camden, Ala., and Phylis Williams of De Land, Fla.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen, with burial in Lyeffion Baptist Cemetery.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

Arva R. Milstid
ATMORE — Arva Ruth Milstid, a retired nurse, died Saturday in Brewton at the age of 64.
Mrs. Milstid, a native of Escambia County, lived in Atmore.
Survivors include a son, Greg Milstid; and two daughters, Janet Milstid and Tina Milstid, all of Atmore; and a sister, Ester Pearl Matheny of Flomaton, Ala.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral of Atmore handled arrangements. Private memorial services will be announced later.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.

James Montgomery
ATMORE — James Montgomery, who formerly worked at high schools in Selma and Pine Apple, Ala., for several years, died Saturday at an Atmore nursing facility. He was 87.
Montgomery, a native of Wilcox County, was a resident of Atmore.
Survivors include a brother, Moses Montgomery of Chicago; and a caregiver, Frances Dailey of Atmore.
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Turner Funeral Chapel in Atmore, with visitation from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

MONROE COUNTY

Clydie B. Jay
URIAH — Clydie B. Jay, 91, died Tuesday at North Baldwin Hospital in Bay Minette.
A homemaker, Mrs. Jay was a native of Santa Rosa County, Fla., who lived in Uriah.
Survivors include three sons, Carter Brooks of Bay Minette, William Brooks of Pensacola and Larry Brooks of Uriah; three brothers, W.C. Barnhill of Cantonment, Fla., Willie Barnhill of Pensacola and Luther Barnhill of Mobile; four sisters, Pearl McGhee of Bay Minette, Leona Godwin and Lennie Whitehead, both of Atmore, and Josephine Flowers of Walnut Hill, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 tonight at Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Bay Minette Cemetery.

OTHER

Ernest Thornhill
GULF SHORES — Ernest Thornhill, a native of Elmore County and a resident of Hoover, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center. He was 85 years old.
Thornhill was a resident of Gulf Shores for more than 17 years. He was a graduate of Auburn University and was employed with Alfa Insurance Co. for 28 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores and the Gulf Shores Golf Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Rita Jean Burch of Gulf Shores, Charlotte T. Trammel of Birmingham and Syrena Beall of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., with burial following at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
Bayview Funeral Home of Foley is handling arrangements.
