MOBILE COUNTY
John R. Green
John Robert Green, a Live Oak, Fla., native and Mobile resident, died Friday at a local health care facility. He was 76.
Green, a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, served in the Pacific during World War II and in Korea and Vietnam. After retirement, he served as personnel officer at the Albert P. Brewer Center. He was a past president of the Optimist Club of Mobile.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Martin Green; one son, Dr. John C. Green Sr.; and three grandchildren, all of Demopolis.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Pine Crest Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Cassie Helveston
Cassie Helveston, a Pensacola native and Mobile resident, died Saturday at a local nursing facility. She was 86.
Mrs. Helveston was a member of Lafitte Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, William G. Helveston of San Antonio, Raymond E. Helveston of Mobile, Royal F. Helveston of New Orleans and Wilton L. Helveston of New Iberia, La.; three daughters, Virginia H. Beck of New Iberia, La., Helen H. Dees of Houston and Patricia H. Simmons of Mobile; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Radney Funeral home. Burial will be in Indian Springs Cemetery.
Marion R. Hewitt
Marion Reinhart Hewitt, a native of Birmingham, died Sunday at a local health care facility. She was 89.
She was survived by her daughter, Marion Hewitt Johnson; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Crest Cemetery.
Walter E. Purcell Sr.
FAIRVIEW - Walter Ernest Purcell Sr., a Mobile native and Fairview resident, died Sunday at his home. He was 72.
He is survived by three sons, Walter E. Purcell Jr. of Saraland, Jesse Purcell of Satsuma and Michael D. Purcell of Pearlington, Miss.; two daughters, Laurie Ann Smith of Slidell, La., and Tonya Jean Polk of Fairview; two brothers, Jesse A. Purcell of Semmes and Kenneth G. Purcell of Lucedale, Miss.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Alvin E. Carter Sr.
SPANISH FORT - Alvin E. Carter Sr., a Michigan native and Spanish Fort resident, died Saturday, October 23, 1999 at a local health care facility. He was 94.
Carter, a retiree of 30 years from Parke Davis Pharmaceutical Company, is survived by his wife, Murville I. Carter of Spanish Fort; one son, Alvin E. Carter Jr. of Daphne; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.
Michael D. Dortch
DAPHNE - Infant Michael Daniel Dortch died Monday, October 18, 1999, in a local hospital. He was one day old.
He is survived by his parents, Daniel and Kyra Dortch; three brothers, Kevin Vanterpool Jr., Doniel Dortch and Destin Dortch; and two sisters, Letitia Sullivan and Denise Pace, all of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS - Philip David Brown, an Indianola, Iowa native and Magnolia Springs resident, died Saturday, October 23,1999. He was 80.
Brown, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WWII, is survived by his wife, Edith King Brown of Magnolia Springs; one son, David A. Brown of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Gayle M. Cahn of Orange Beach and Carolyn L. Millard of Ames, Iowa; one sister Barbara Hope Klay of Orange City, Iowa.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Rest Memorial Park.

Percy H. Tidwell
BERMUDA - Percy H. Tidwell, a Westville, Fla. native and Bermuda resident, died Saturday at a Monroe County hospital. He was 101.
Tidwell was a member of the Bermuda Methodist Church for 80 years.
He is survived by his wife, Edna O. Tidwell of Bermuda; two sons, Lowell H. Tidwell of Bay Minette and Macon Bryan Tidwell of Selma; one daughter, Hilda H. Butts of Monroeville; three stepdaughters, Lindell McInnis of Repton, Shirley Conner of Mobile and Carol Sammons of Montgomery; one sister, Betty Roberts of Dothan; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Bermuda Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bermuda Methodist Church Cemetery.

Louise Sullivan
NEW CARLISLE, Ohio - Louise Hester Crawford Sullivan, an Alexandria, Va., native and New Carlisle, Ohio, resident, died Wednesday at a nursing home in New Carlisle. She was 81.
She is survived by her husband, Bert Sullivan, and her daughter, Iris Sullivan Sleeper, both of New Carlisle.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Cope Funeral Home Chapel in Evergreen. Burial will be in Buffington Cemetery.

James S. Dunn Jr.
James Shelton Dunn Jr., a native of Montgomery County and resident of Mobile, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 57.
Survivors include his wife, Terry Dunn of Mobile, and a sister, Nancy Trawick of Murray, Ky.
Graveside services are set for 1 p.m. today at Magnolia Cemetery, with Cope Funeral Home of Evergreen directing.
Carlie Grace Tait
Carlie Grace Helms-Tait, age 2 days, died Friday at a local hospital.
Survivors include her parents, Larry "Nicky" Tait Jr. and Heather M. Helms; a twin bother, Noah Reese Helms-Tait; a sister, Morgan C. Nolfe; and her grandparents, Chuck Helms, Paulette Johnson, Larry N. Tait Sr. and Virginia Lyndall, all of Mobile.
Graveside services took place Monday at Mobile Memorial Gardens, with Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in charge.

Robert P. Cole
ROBERTSDALE - Robert Pharis "Robbie" Cole, a native of Baldwin County and a resident of Robertsdale, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1999. He was 17 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Pharis and Cindy Cole of Robertsdale; one brother, Nicholas Arthur Cole of Robertsdale; his grandparents, Eileen McComb of Flint, Mich., and Ethel Harris of Loxley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Cremation and funeral arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home.
Bertrum J. Browning
BAY MINETTE - Bertrum James Browning, a native of Whistler and a resident of Bay Minette, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at North Baldwin Hospital. He was 65 years old.
Browning was a retired electronics supervisor with the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Browning of Bay Minette; a son, James M. Browning of Alabaster; two daughters, Beverly Joan Hofer of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Kathy Joy Moore of Vernon, Fla.; his mother, Carrie Thomas Browning of Montrose; three brothers, Thomas E. Browning of Eight Mile, John W. Browning of Satsuma and Charles M. Browning of Daphne; two sisters, Elsie Chonak of Epping, N.H., and Lucille Boyles of Semmes; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette with the Rev. Henry Cox officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Mildred D. McAlister
MAGNOLIA SPRINGS - Mildred Dorgan McAlister, a homemaker and avid gardener, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 80.
Mrs. McAlister, a native of Dallas, Texas, was a longtime resident of Mobile before moving to Magnolia Springs in 1985. She was a 1936 graduate of Murphy High School. She attended Arlington Hall School, the University of Texas and the University of Alabama.
She was a member of the Magnolia Springs Garden Club and Community Association.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert Ewing McAlister Jr. of Fairhope; and a daughter, Cathryn McAlister Foley of Orange Beach; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway, with graveside services at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
