Lila Ann Booker
Lila Ann Booker, a native of Blue Hill, Neb., who resided in Excel, died Thursday at a Mobile hospital. She was 57.
Mrs. Booker, a member of Ambassador Baptist Church, is survived by two sons, Steven Luker of Uriah and Thomas Luker of Perdue Hill; two daughters, Patty Morris of Uriah and Cindy Barnes of Excel; her mother, Levita Joyce of Harvard, Neb.; four brothers, Vernon Fielder, Dewayne Fielder, Jack Fielder, all of Nebraska, and Joseph Fielder of Florida; a sister, Mary Schumm of Nebraska; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and a step-great grandchild.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Ambassador Baptist Church, with burial at Uriah Cemetery.
Johnson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

William McNeal Jr.
MOSSY HEAD, Fla. — William Monroe McNeal Jr., a native of Prichard and a retiree of Gulf Power Co. after 30 years, died Friday at his home. He was 61.
McNeal, who resided in Mossy Head, was a former longtime resident of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Julie R. McNeal of Mossy Head; three daughters, Gwendolyn Black of Mary Esther, Fla., Shirley Riera-Gomez of Navarre, Fla., and Jamie McNeal Miller of Mobile; his siblings, Willie Louise Gardner, Shirley E. Thompson and Gloria Jean Kiley, all of Semmes, Molly F. McVay of Eight Mile, Thomas Gerald McNeal of Tyler, Ala., and Dana C. Patrick of North Oxford, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Mobile Memorial Funeral Home, with burial at Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Roy Leo Pate Jr.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Roy Leo Pate Jr., a Mobile native and an Oklahoma City resident, died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He was 53.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Paul Pate of Mobile and Roy Leo Pate III of Florida; four daughters, Holly Franklin of Minnesota, Shannon A. Dennis, Kelly N. Britton and Tiffany J. Pate, all of Florida; his mother Martha Ellen Pate of Mobile; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 5 p.m. today at Woodmont Baptist Church.

David W. Phillips
David Wayne Phillips, a native of Sylacauga, Ala., and resident of Creola, died Sunday at the family residence. He was 45.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria Phillips; four children, Brandy Jackson and Emily Keith, both of Creola, Kevin Keith of Saraland and Chris Keith of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Theresa Blackburn of Center Point, Ala., and Alice Nash of Lake City, Fla.; a brother, Gary Phillips of Pelham, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, with services at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Creola Cemetery.

John F. Hempfleng Sr
John Frederick Hempfleng Sr., who for the past 10 years was employed by NYCO as a building monitor at AmSouth Center Office Building, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 74.
Hempfleng, a native of Mobile and Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he retired as chief of police at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, before returning to Mobile.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Lucille Gray Hempfleng; seven children, Frances McCue of San Antonio, Carol Graddy, Lewis Hempfleng and Robert Hempfleng, all of Mobile, John F. Hempfleng Jr. of Theodore, Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Hempfleng of Lavernia, Texas, and Patsy Ann Bowen of Florsville, Texas; eight siblings, Edgar "Juney" Hempfleng of Evergreen, Ala., Bobby Hempfleng of Summerdale, Charles Hempfleng of Mobile, C.C. Hempfleng, Virginia Wiley and Linda Hoss, all of Mobile, and Jimmy Hempfleng and Sara Sigouin, both of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Serenity Funeral Home, with services at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Thomas C. Humphrey Jr.
Thomas Clyde Humphrey Jr., a retired insurance agent with American Life Insurance Co., died at his home on Monday. He was 59.
Humphrey was a native of Mason, Ohio, and resident of Mobile. A veteran, he was a member of Azalea Hills Christian Church on Cottage Hill and McFarland Road.
Survivors include his wife, Dillene Humphrey of Mobile; a son, Thomas Clyde Humphrey III; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Humphrey and Kimberly Jayne Humphrey of Birmingham; and two sisters, Lynn Jones of Cincinnati and Ramona Hughes of Panama City, Fla.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Azalea Hills Christian Church, with services at noon. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rosehill Mason Cemetery in Mason, Ohio. Gilmer's Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

BALDWIN COUNTY

Pearlie M. Johnson
DAPHNE — Pearlie Mae Johnson, a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 86.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Brewton, Ala., was a resident of Daphne.
She served as a deaconess at her church. In addition, she was a member of Daphne Pride No. 387 Order of the Eastern Star, the St. Cypren Lodge No. 57 University Brotherhood and a former member of Bessie Smith Allen Federated Club.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Lee Johnson Sr. of Daphne; 11 children, Virgie M. Nettles, Willie Lee Johnson Jr., Bennie M. Buchanan and Elouise Wilson, all of Daphne, Bernice Hare of Little Rock, Ark., Josephine Jackson, Annette Milton and Joe L. Johnson, all of Mobile, Freddie L. Johnson of Germany, Horace S. Johnson of Omaha, Neb., and Melinda Durgin of Fairhope; two sisters, Mary L. Drakford of Mobile and Minnie B. Harris of Cleveland; a brother, James Williams of New Orleans; 41 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home in Mobile. Viewing also will be after 9 a.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Fairhope.

Calvin Thompson
ATLANTA — Calvin Thompson, a native Mobilian and resident of Atlanta, died Wednesday in a Mobile hospital after an illness. He was 58.
Thompson's craftsmanship was reflected in many homes in the Whistler community.
Survivors include a son, Sean Thompson; a daughter, Kelly Thompson; two brothers, Arthur Thompson Jr. and Rudolph Thompson; and two sisters, Ethel Dorsey and Tiney Spraggins.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lovett's Funeral Chapel in Mobile, with services at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Whistler Cemetery.

Adrien F. Blanchet
PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Adrien F. Blanchet, a resident of Pawtucket and formerly of Mobile, died Sunday in Pawtucket at the age of 71.
The Korean War veteran was a member of the Elks Lodge, where he had served as a past exalted ruler. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past grand knight.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of East Providence, R.I.
Survivors include his wife, Claire Blanchet; three sons, Norman Blanchet, Raymond Blanchet and Larry Blanchet; and two daughters, Patricia Blanchet and Suzanne Blanchet, all of Pawtucket; four brothers, the Rev. Leo J. Blanchet, M.S., pastor of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Whistler, Brother Normand Blanchet, M.S., of Whistler, Eugene B. Blanchet Jr. of Mobile and Joseph F. Blanchet of Pawtucket ; four sisters, Sister Louise Blanchet, P.O.O.F., and Sister Florida Blanchet, P.O.O.F., Beatrice Pelletier and Marguerite Ballow, all of Pawtucket.
Arrangements will be announced by Gilmer's Funeral Service on Zeigler Boulevard.

Erah Anderson
Erah Anderson, a retired dietitian, died Tuesday at Little Sisters of the Poor. She was 88.
Mrs. Anderson, a native of Enterprise, Miss., was a resident of Mobile for the past 17 years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Smith of Mobile; and a son, Rick Anderson of Mobile; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Enterprise Baptist Church in Mississippi, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Webb Funeral Home of Meridian, Miss.

Berneice Cephas
Berneice Cephas, a former Department of Human Resources employee, died Saturday at a local nursing facility. She was 70.
Ms. Cephas, a lifelong Mobilian, had worked with DHR as a caregiver for the elderly.
Survivors include three children, Frederick Cephas Sr. of Augusta, Ga., and Shirley C. Kyles and Myron D. Cephas, both of Mobile; three sisters, Irene Douglas, Lorene Young and Francis Logan, all of Mobile; and two brothers, Clanford Cephas and William Cephas, both of Mobile; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing also will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 5051 Ebenezer Drive, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Daryl A. Joiner
Daryl Anthony Joiner, a self-employed auto mechanic, died Saturday in Mobile. He was 38.
Joiner was a Mobile resident and had attended Mary G. Montgomery High School.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Bennie L. Joiner and Marie Joiner of Meridian, Miss.; his mother and stepfather, Helen Manasco and Eddie Manasco Jr. of DeSoto, Miss.; three daughters, Alana Manasco of De Soto, and Allison Joiner and Kelsey Joiner, both of Mobile; two brothers, Danny L. Joiner and Gary C. Joiner, both of Mobile; and two stepbrothers, Frank B. Douglas and Christopher E. Douglas, both of Meridian.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. today at Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery, with visitation at Mount Horeb Baptist Church from 1 p.m. until service time.
Arrangements are by Barham Funeral Home of Meridian.

Ora D. Jones
Ora Dea Jones, a former public school teacher, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 77.
Mrs. Jones was a native and resident of Mobile.
She received her bachelor's degree from Alabama State College and her master's degree from the University of South Alabama. She also held a Christian education degree.
Mrs. Jones took part in a number of civic organizations. Her affiliations included the Girl Scouts, the YWCA "Y Teens," and the NAACP.
She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school secretary and teacher, department superintendent, usher, secretary of the Missionary Society and member of the Sunday school choir.
Survivors include a sister, Vernetta Hendrieth of Mobile; and a brother, William H. Callier of Cleveland.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing also will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1012 Adams St., with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery.

Roscoe Tanner
TANNER WILLIAMS — Roscoe Tanner, a native and resident of Tanner Williams, died Monday at his residence. He was 80.
He was the owner of a grocery store in Tanner Williams for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred B. Tanner of Tanner Williams; four sons, Dempsey T. Tanner of Escatawpa, Miss., Melvin C. Tanner, Gillary Tanner and Donnie D. Tanner of Tanner Williams; two sisters, Stella Pierce of Tanner Williams and Ruby Germany of Mobile; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Burial will be in Joyner Cemetery in Tanner Williams.

CLARKE COUNTY

Jason D. Courington
COFFEEVILLE — Jason Donald Courington, an employee of Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Jackson, Ala., died Monday in a traffic accident in Coffeeville. He was 24.
Courington was a native of Saraland and a resident Coffeeville. He worked as a sheeter operator at the mill.
Survivors include his wife, Jami Paul Courington; a daughter, Katelyn Courington; his parents, Donald and Josephine Courington; and a brother, Victor Courington, all of Coffeeville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Graveside services are scheduled for 1130 a.m. Thursday at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Coffeeville.

Jeffery G. Shepherd
COFFEEVILLE — Jeffery Glenn "Jeff" Shepherd, an instrument fitter for Brown & Root, died Monday at an area hospital from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. He was 23.
Shepherd, a native of Grove Hill, Ala., was a resident of Coffeeville and a member of Jones Chapel Church of Christ.
Survivors include his parents, Denise and Donald Glen Shepherd; a brother, Scott Shepherd; two sisters, Ashton Shepherd and Tara Shepherd; and his grandparents, Golden Shepherd and Frank Harper, all of Coffeeville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson, Ala. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones Chapel Church of Christ, with burial in Jones Chapel Cemetery in Coffeeville.

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Tommy R. Moss
MILLRY — The Rev. Tommy R. Moss, a pastor and evangelist for the Church of God, Cleveland, Tenn., for 32 years, died Monday at his home. He was 60.
Moss, a resident of Millry, was a self-employed businessman.
He had attended Mobile College.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Rene Moss of Millry; two sons, Steve Moss of Saraland and Victor Moss of Millry; two daughters, Renee Chambers of Meridian, Miss., and Charlene Hopkins of Conway, Ark.; two brothers, G.T. Lewis Moss and James Moss, both of Chatom; six sisters, Mary Coxwell, Frances Brown, Carolyn Moss and Dot Stinson, all of Chatom, Gracie Howard of Citronelle and Betty Butler of Fairhope; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Chatom Church of God, followed by services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Methodist Cemetery in Millry.
Arrangements are by Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom.

Albert M. Philips Sr.
SILVERHILL — Albert M. Philips Sr., a native of Gettysburg, S.D., and a resident of Silverhill, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999.
Phillips, 97, had served as Silverhill's postmaster for 35 years.
He is survived by four daughters, Joyce Clark of Spanish Fort, Barbara Young and Nancy Ewing, both of Silverhill, and Norma Schafer of Foley; two sons, Austin Philips of Beaufort, S.C., and Albert Mike Philips Jr. of Silverhill; one sister, Jennie Wilson of Silverhill; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale with the Rev. Jeff Hunter officiating. Burial will take place in the Silverhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that contributions be made to a favorite charity or to Silverhill Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.

Dorothy J. Johnson
FAIRHOPE — Dorothy J. Johnson, a native of Mississippi and a long-time resident of Fairhope, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999. She was 72.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. Garrick and Elizabeth J. Maute, both of Fairhope; three brothers, Raymond Jones of Taylorsville, Miss., L.D. Jones of Texas, J.T. Jones of Taylorsville; one sister, Lilla Mae Bush of Moss Point, Miss.; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens in Fairhope. The Rev. A.B. Sawyer will officiate. Arrangements are by Fairhope Funeral Home in Fairhope.

Marion Faye Crumbley
DAPHNE — Marion Faye Crumbley died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at Mercy Medical Hospice in Daphne.
Ms. Crumbley, 67, retired from the Alabama school system in 1994 after 40 years in the classroom. In the last 27 years of her career she taught in the English Department at Calhoun Junior College in Decatur.
She also taught in Cullman, Heflin and Fairhope high schools.
The Cullman County native is survived by her sister, Dorothy Coleman of Fairhope, and one nephew, Michael Coleman of Pensacola.
Private graveside services were held Monday at Bay Minette Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Jecklin officiated and the eulogy was given by Harry Moore of Athens, Ala., a teaching colleague at Calhoun Junior College.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Mercy Medical, P.O. Box 1090, Daphne, AL 36526-9987.
Arrangements were by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.

Walter William Godfrey
FOLEY — Walter William Godfrey, a native of Asheville, N.C., and a resident of Foley, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999. He was 71.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Godfrey of Foley; a son, Wayne Godfrey of Greenville, S.C.; three daughters, Sandra Satterfield and Melanie Singleton, both of Foley, and Joan Stafford of Greer, S.C.; a sister, Vever Jones of Asheville, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial following in Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
Arrangements are being handled by Pine Rest Funeral Home of Foley.

Eugene Earl Johnson
FOLEY — Eugene Earl Johnson, 68, of Foley died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.
Johnson was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Protective Benevolent Order Elks Club for 23 years.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Jeanette Johnson of Foley; two daughters, Jody Vanderpool of Elberta and Ann Marie Johnson of New York; three sisters, Hope Reed and Loretta Metz, both of New Jersey, and Lou Conners of Florida; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services for Johnson will be held at a later date.
Bayview Funeral Home of Foley is handling arrangements.
