MOBILE COUNTY
Dan Brooks
Dan Brooks, a former driver with Mayflower Movers, died Sunday at his Mobile residence.
Brooks, 85, was a native of Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Broadus Brooks of Mobile; a son, George Edmond "Scutter" Brooks; a sister, Janice Mary Bell; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Malcolm Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dixie F. Dunn
Dixie Foster Dunn, a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 87.
Born in the Panama Canal Zone, Mrs. Dunn lived most her life in Mobile. She was a member of the Dental Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Sally Wisdom of Escondido, Calif., and Becky Megginson of Mobile; a sister, Suzanne Grizzard of Biloxi, Miss.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Jesus in the Chapel section of Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Memorial Fund or to a favorite charity.
Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Eula Mae Melton
Eula Mae Melton, a retiree who worked for more than 30 years at International Paper, died Saturday at a local health facility.
A member of College Park Baptist Church, Mrs. Melton resided in Chickasaw. She was a native of Semmes.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat N. Bacon of Semmes; two sons, Euby Glover and Willie Glover, both of Texas; four sisters, Gertrude Johnson of Saraland, Roselle Twilley of Mobile, Josephine Bryant of Birmingham and Barbara Pfister of Semmes.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile. with burial at Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to College Park Baptist Church or to Mercy Medical of Mobile.
Erna C. Milling
Erna C. "Ernie" Milling, a retired telephone company electrical technician, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 79.
Milling, a longtime resident of Mobile, was a native of Dixon, Miss. He worked more than 44 years with AT&T, Western Electric and Southern Bell. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers Club.
He also had served as a board member and a choir member at First Church of God in Mobile for the past several years.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla A. Milling of Mobile; two children, Philip E. Milling of Austin, Texas, and Cheryl A. Horton of Morrisville, N.C.; seven stepchildren, David O. Richardson of Jesup, Ga., Jack E. Richardson of Jackson Center, Ohio, E. Ruth Hutchinson of Live Oak, Fla., Melanie B. Roe and Douglas B. Richardson, both of Sidney, Ohio, Gail E. Fleming of Conover, Ohio, and Matthew S. Richardson of Nokomis, Fla.; two sisters, Mertis Mitchell and Nadine Slaughter, both of Philadelphia, Miss.; two brothers, Jack Milling of Florence, Miss., and Doyle Milling of Pearl, Miss.; two grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 at Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road. Services are set for 1030 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A second visitation is planned Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia, Miss. Services there are set for 10 a.m. Friday, with burial at Morrow Cemetery in Dixon, Miss.
Memorials may be made to First Church of God in Mobile.
Lela M. Rutledge
Lela Mae Rutledge, a member of Grace and Truth Holiness Church of Jesus Christ Deliverance, died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 90.
Mrs. Rutledge, who resided in Prichard, was a native of Lamison, Ala., and former longtime resident of Thomaston, Ala.
Survivors include a son, L.T. Vaughn of Prichard; five sisters, Barnette Crenshaw, Katie Coleman and Ida Hall, all of Prichard, Annie Perkins and Lether Calhoun, both of Pine Hill, Ala.; a brother, James Perkins of Pine Hill; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.
Viewing will be today from noon to 5 p.m. at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. A second viewing is planned Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Faith City Cathedral Pentecostal Deliverance Church, 521 Telegraph Road in Prichard, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin. Burial will be at Whispering Pines Cemetery.

Ellis Harrell
ANTIOCH - Ellis Harrell, a retired operator with Alabama River Pulp, died Monday at a hospital in Mobile. He was 68.
Harrell, an Alabama native, resided in the Antioch community near Grove Hill. He was a former member of the Antioch Fire Department.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Retha Harrell; a son, Keith Ellis Harrell; a daughter, Nancy Wolfe; and three brothers, Edward Harrell, Arnold Lee Harrell and R.L. Harrell, all of Antioch; a sister, Mildred McIntyre of Jackson, Ala.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Antioch Baptist Church. Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial at the church cemetery.

Jerry E. Maughon
ATMORE - Jerry E. Maughon, a self-employed welder, died of natural causes Sunday in Bessemer, Ala. He was 46.
Maughon, who resided in Atmore, was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert E. Maughon Jr. of Atmore and Jimmy M. Maughon of Stockton, and a sister, Wendy L. Wright of Atmore.
Visitation will be at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore on Thursday from 930 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services begin. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

John D. Douglas
PITTSBURGH, Texas - John Daniel Douglas, a native of Mobile who resided in Pittsburgh, died Saturday. He was 77.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Douglas; six children, Michael Dyess, Joel Dyess, Jeffrey Dyess, Donald Douglas, Margaret Beach and John "Douglas" Andrews; a brother, William Douglas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1030 a.m. until noon at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Evelyn Lowrey
MONTGOMERY - Evelyn Shelby Lowrey of Montgomery, a former longtime resident of Burnt Corn, died Sunday. She was 85.
Mrs. Lowrey was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the English Speaking Union, the Helen Keller Study Club and Burnt Corn Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Graves Lowrey Jr. of Montgomery; two daughters, Shelby Lowrey Jones of Houston and Anne Lowrey McMillan of Montgomery; three sisters, Frances Shelby Brewer and Nancy Shelby Thurmond, both of Charleston, Miss., and Mayme Shelby Dernoncourt of Leawood, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 530 to 730 at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at th funeral home, with burial at Puryearville Cemetery in Burnt Corn.
Larry W. McBride
PINEVILLE, La. - Larry Wayne McBride, a self-employed tree surgeon, died Thursday at his home. He was 40.
McBride, who resided in Pineville, was a native of Monroe County, Ala.
Survivors include his daughter, Samantha Martin of Alexandria, La.; his parents, Velma and Zollie McBride of Monroeville; six brothers, Marion McBride, Edward McBride, Jerry McBride, Ray McBride, Johnny McBride and Ricky McBride, all of Monroeville; four sisters, Carolyn Rowell of Monroeville, Betty White of Alexandria, La., Deborah Warren of Excel and Barbara Jay of Frisco City.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Cemetery in Monroeville.

John Tyree
QUITMAN, Miss. - John Tyree, a native of Evergreen, Ala., who resided in Quitman, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Tyree, 94, was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Survivors include his son, Calvin Tyree of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Rita Jenkins of Meridian, Miss.; a sister, Lizzie Holmes of Brewton, Ala.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler, Ala., with burial at Hopewell Cemetery in Lavaca, Ala.

EARNEST LEE PATTERSON
ROBERTSDALE - Earnest Lee Patterson, a native of Baldwin County and a resident of Robertsdale, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999. He was 88 years old.
He is survived by his wife, M. Leona Patterson; two sons, Elbert B. Patterson and Bill Patterson; three daughters, Louise Boykin, Sarah Kimbler and Lucille Stallings; and one sister, Catherine Parker, all of Robertsdale; and five brothers, Leslie Patterson and Johnny Patterson, both of Robertsdale, Clifton Patterson and Earl Patterson, both of Pensacola, and Walter Patterson of Loxley; 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 until 8 tonight at Mack Funeral Home Chapel in Robertsdale. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial following in Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Robertsdale.

FAIRHOPE - Thomas H. Armstrong Sr., a native of Tuscaloosa and a resident of Fairhope, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at a local health-care facility. He attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church and was 61 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie B. Armstrong of Fairhope; one son, Tommy Armstrong Jr. of Fairhope; one sister, Pat Ellis of Pascagoula, Miss.; one brother, J.M. Armstrong of Tuscaloosa; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Colony Cemetery with Father Gordon Milsted officiating.
The family suggests that contributions be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church Building Fund, 370 S. Section St., Fairhope, AL 36532.
Funeral arrangements are by Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope.
HENRY H. WELLS
FAIRHOPE - Henry H. Wells, a native of Indiana and a resident of Fairhope, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at a local health-care facility.
Wells, 76, was a longtime employee of Gayfers department store, starting in 1959 in Mobile and retiring in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Joyce Wells of Fairhope.
A memorial service will be held in Scottsburg, Ind., at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.

Marie Georgia Kirsch, a lifelong Mobilian, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 91.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.

Myrtle W. Lalande
Myrtle Wells Lalande, a lifelong resident of Mobile, died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 90.
Survivors include a son, Elbert J. Lalande; a sister, Marie Wells Anthony; and a brother, Ira J. Wells Sr., all of Mobile.

Ratha Pettaway, a member of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, died Thursday at a local health care facility. She was 94.
Mrs. Pettaway, who resided in Mobile, was a native of Minter, Ala.
Survivors include six children, Maggie Wilson, Nathaniel Jones Sr., Carrie Jones, Sip Pettaway and George Morris, all of Mobile, and Dorothy Lorene Pettaway of Hempstead, N.Y.; two granddaughters whom she reared, Wanda Pettaway of Mobile and Brenda Pettaway of Missouri; two sisters, Katie Boykins of Minter and Carrie Coleman of New York City; 38 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

CONYERS, Ga. - Cornelia "Connie" Bell, a retired Fort MacPherson payroll clerk, died Monday in Conyers. She was 89.
Mrs. Bell, who resided in Conyers, was a native of Mobile. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Conyers.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. "Ray" Bell Sr. of Conyers; two stepsons, Raymond E. Bell Jr. and Malra C. Bell; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Thursday evening at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial at Catholic Cemetery.
Charles Collins
FLINT, Mich. - Charles Collins, a native of Plateau and a longtime resident of Flint, died Monday at his home. He was 74.
Collins, affectionately known as "Billbo" to family and friends, attended Mobile County Training School. He was retired from General Motors.
Survivors include his children; a brother; several sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
