Mrs. Reccie D. Long
A longtime resident of Mobile, died at a local hospital on Monday, November 22, 1999. She was a member of Airport Blvd. Baptist Church for over forty years. Mrs. Long is preceded in death by her husband, William ``Billy" Long and is survived by her children, Sharon Mooring of Tampa, FL, Paul Long of Salem, OR, Raymond ``Ray'' Long of Mobile, Donald ``Don'' Long of Mobile, Jerry Long of Mobile, Lynda Young of Mobile and Kathryn ``Kathy'' Long of Salem, OR; sisters, Edith Armstrong of Mobile, Dina Adkins of Munford, TN, Benny Garcia of Orlando, FL, Amonda Davis of W. Born September 22, 1925, St. Louis, Missouri passed away November 21, 1999 in Houston, Texas. Her family and friends will forever remember her grace and unselfish spirit. Dorothy was a registered nurse for 56 years working and giving of her time; most recently at University of South Alabama in Mobile. Dorothy and Walt Weddle made Mobile their home for over forty years. They were members and actively involved at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Preceded in death by husband, Col. Walter M. Weddle. Survived by children, Walter M. Age 81, a retired Petroleum Geologist died Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at a local hospital. He was a native of Dallas, TX and a resident of Fairhope since 1994. Mr. Newton was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, the Geological Society of America and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and entered the oil business in Midland, TX and later worked in New Orleans, El Dorado, AR and Houston. Mr. Newton retired in 1982 to Pass Christian, MS before moving to Fairhope. He was a lifelong avid golfer and was a volunteer for Friends of the Library in Fairhope. Mr. Newton is survived by his loving wife Melba Bowman Newton of Fairhope; a son, George Kenneth Newton, Jr. of Allen, TX and Saratoga, CA; a daughter Nancy Newton Cummins of New Orleans, LA; a brother, Charles Samuel Newton of Brownsville, TX; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be h el d Saturday, November 27, 1999 at 1100 AM from Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope. Mr. Clifton (Spanish) Reid
A native of Mobile, AL and resident of Prichard, AL, born September 10, 1924 departed this life at a local hospital on November 19, 1999. He accepted Christ at an early age and later united with Blooming Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. W. McDaniel, Sr . He served as a faithful member and trustee until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Reid of Mobile, AL, and his sisters. Loretha Martin and Odel White. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife for over 51 years, Selma Reid, Prichard, AL; one son, Arthur Patterson, Prichard, AL; sisters, Charletta Sellers, Mobile, AL and Earnestine (Elder Caesar) Conico, Prichard, AL; three sisters-in-law, Irene Robinson, Prichard, AL, Carrie Turner, Millry, AL and Mary Turner, Prichard , AL; god son, Lewis James, Jr., devoted nephew, Dea con James Leverett, devoted niece, Bettie Rembert, devoted cousin, Robert Williams , devoted friend, David Adams; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His remains will lie in state at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Friday, November 26, 1999 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. and after 9 a.m. at Blooming Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 354 Highlands Ave. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at which time Rev. Charles Bradley, Pastor will conduct the funeral service. Interment
