Family, friends and former colleagues filled the Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home in Chagrin Falls. March 26 to pay their respects to the family of Robert C. Uhl, age 55, who died suddenly March 24 at his home. Surrounding those assembled were floral arrangements, family photos and a touching elementary school essay, "My dad is my hero," written by youngest son, Robert L. Uhl Jr.
Robert C. Uhl was born July 7, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was graduated from Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics. He was a staff engineer for the Society of Automotive Engineers in Warrendale, Pennsylvania.

Friends and family shared their personal reflections during A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving, officiated by the Rev. Rob Henderson at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bainbridge Twp. Frank Obernyer, a childhood and longtime friend, spoke of Bob's irreverent humor and playful insults. "He was 100% Bob; what you see is what you get." Frank ended with a moving prayer, asking Bob to watch over those he's left behind.
Bill Scott and Peg Weir, 20-year colleagues at ASM International, shared their perspectives. Bill talked about the many ways in which Bob had been a friend to him, while Peg spoke of the teacher, coach and mentor in Bob.
In a humorous turn, Bob Cipiti, friend of the Uhls since they joined Lord of Life 20 years ago, imagined what Bob's first meeting with God might have been like. "Heaven will never be the same." He challenged the congregation to pay tribute to Bob in a way he would have liked, saying "What would Bob want us to do for him?"
Finally, Bob and Sharon's son, Mark Liviskie, related favorite memories spent with his father. And while he could get angry at his dad at times, Mark commented that he and sister Heather were never treated differently than Bob's own biological children. Mark gratefully reflected on the role Bob had in his life, "He taught me how to be a man", and upon reaching the next level of their relationship - both father and friend.
Pastor Henderson concluded with a homily recognizing the difficult journey the family has undergone since Monday's tragedy. He urged them to remember, celebrate and give thanks for a man "so unassuming," yet able to cultivate deep, lifelong friendships.
Contributions on behalf of Robert C. Uhl Sr. may be made to Milton Hershey School Alumni Association (MHSAA), P.O. Box 133, Hershey, PA 17033.
My deepest sympathies to Sharon, Heather, Mark, Robert and Bethany. The love and support of family, friends and acquaintances are a tribute to the life he lived. Bob, you will be greatly missed by many. - Laura S. Guritza, friend and former colleague.
