Othu 'Ruth' Comer, 82, of South Salem died 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Greenfield Area Medical Center. She was born September 28, 1918, in Summerville, Georgia, to the late E.P. and Pearl (Wilson) Nichols.
On April 18, 1942, she married Harold Comer, who survives.
Also surviving are half-brother, William Nichols, Kentucky; nephew, Tommy Nichols, Louisville, Ky.; niece, Eddiamae Dalton, Louisville, Ky., and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, T.P. Nichols.
Mrs. Comer was a homemaker and a member of Lattaville United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home, Greenfield with Pastor Paul Goshorn officiating.

Robert E. Hamilton, age 52, of Greenfield, died unexpectedly at his home Friday morning, August 2, 1996.
He was the husband of the former Carol A. Ebright, who survives.

Donald E. Butts, 43, of Loveland, formerly of Seaman, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born at West Union in Adams County on Jan. 3, 1958, the son of the late Vernon and Dorothy J. (McKenzie) Butts.
He was a truck driver for J. R. Jerguson, was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 100 and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2001 at the Lewis-Sullivan Funeral Home in Seaman with the Rev. Jimmy Webb officiating.
Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery.

Martha Ellen Barnhart, 70, of Bainbridge died at 7:56 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at the Greenfield Area Medical Center.
She was born June 3, 1931 in Ross County, the daughter of Harold D. Hester and Nora (Spurgeon) Hester.
She is survived by her husband, Donald 'Jake' Barnhart, whom she married on Nov. 10, 1951; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Lloyd
Clouser, of Bainbridge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Sharmin Barnhart, of Bainbridge, Rodger and Marsha Barnhart, of Chillicothe, and
Jeff and Lori Barnhart, of Bainbridge; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, seven sisters and four brothers.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother and both parents.
She was a homemaker and was a graduate of Buckskin High School.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield, where the Rev. Paul Goshorn will officiate. Burial will be in the South Salem Cemetery.

Robert Edward Bowles, age 22, of Bainbridge, died Thursday,
August 15, 1996 after suffering a heart attack.
He was born July 2, 1974 in Washington, C.H., the son of Terry
Robert Bowles and Debra Howard Knisely. He was a 1993 graduate of Edward
Lee McClain High School in Greenfield.
Survivors include his father, Terry Bowles of Bonita Springs,
Fla.; his mother and stepfather, Debra and Michael Knisely of Bainbridge;
three sisters, Jamie, Jackie and Jan Bowles; one stepsister, Brandi Knisely
of Texas; Grandparents Robert and Beverly Howard and step-grandparents Edwin
and Geraldine Knisely of Bainbridge; Great grandmother Oletha Rittenhouse of
Washington C.H.; nine aunts and uncles, Susan and George Duke of Englewood,
OH, Sandra and Jim Bach, Kelley and Stuart McNeil, Waneta Pooler and Carol
Knisely, all of Greenfield, Shirley and Ron Leasure, Sandra and Frank White
and Patricia and Mike Free of Bainbridge, and Sue Lindsay of Spring, Texas;
six uncles, Scott Howard, Troy Howard, Bill and Sally Bowles, Mike and
Rhonda Bowles of Bainbridge, Don and Sharon Bowles of Greenfield, and Tom
and Mary Bowles of South Carolina. He is also survived by a special friend,
Molly Martin of Greenfield.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Edward and Chloe Bowles
and Elsie Rittenhouse.
Robert was employed at Ross Metal and Andy Beatty Farms. He was a
member of the Bainbridge Church of Chris.

Bainbridge Church of Christ, where Troy Villars and Mike Free will

DEWEY.
Lewis G. Dewey, age 76, of Frankfort, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday,
September 4, 1996 at Valley View Care Center in Frankfort.
He was born February 8, 1920 in Washington Court House, the son of
Mack and Virgie (Moore) Dewey. Mr. Dewey was a retired timberman, a World
War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Joseph Ellsworth White American
Legion Post 483.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Temple) Dewey, whom he married on
January 21, 1946; one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Robert Speakman of
Washington C.H.; one son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Kathy Dewey of
Frankfort; sister Ellene Storts of Frankfort; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Harley and Mag Dewey of Beaver, OH and Charles and Edith Ann Dewey of
Waverly; sisters-in-law Dorothy Bossert, Viola Lykins and Marian Shaffer and
her husband, Ivan; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd Dewey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at the
Fisher-Anderson-Ebright Funeral Home in Frankfort, with the Rev. Jack Norman
officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort, where
military honors will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion.

MARTIN LUTHER SEVER. 1923-2001.
Martin Luther Sever, 77, of Hillsboro, died at 11:45 a.m. Aug. 4, 2001 at
home with his special companion, Mary Priest, in the loving care of his
family and the Clinton County Hospice.
He was born Sept. 20, 1923 at Austin, son of Charles and Nellie
Sever. On Nov. 10, 1945 he married Evelyn Kinnamon. They had nine
children. Evelyn preceded him in death on July 8, 1977.
Surviving are four sons: Charles of Chillicothe, Lawrence (Ina),
of Greenfield, Robert (Shirley), of Frankfort, Lee, of Clarksburg; two
daughters, Jan (David) Garcia, of Loxahatchee, Fla., and Jean Ann (Roger) of
Chillicothe; step grandchildren, Pamela (John) Mottie, of Hillsboro and
Thomas (Ruth) Priest, of Highland; 28 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, James, of Washington
C.H.; four sisters, Vivian 'Till' Smith, of Fairborn, Virginia Bradley, of
Springboro, Mary Lou Tangeman, of Frankfort, Lib Sowers, of Washington C.H.,
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Ann McCloud
and Evelyn Mae Sever; a son, Marvin Seyfang; three brothers, John, Bill and
Donald Sever; sister, Polly Starkey; and great grandson, Jacob McDonald.
He served with the U.S. Army in World War II in Germany. He was a
lifetime member of the VFW in Greenfield, Frankfort American Legion and the
AmVets of Hillsboro and also belonged to the Eagles Lodge in Greenfield.
Mart was a professional wrestler, known as 'Tiger'. He was retired
and a previous worker of many trades. He was a wonderful father and
companion with a host of friends and loved by all who knew him. At this
time, Mary and family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and
support during this loss.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 in the
Frankfort United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glen Hiles and Craig
Reichert officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in
Frankfort where military rites will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion.

Hiram Mullins, 52, of Sabina, formerly of New Vienna, died at 2:20 a.m.
Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
He was born May 2, 1949 in Wheelright, Ky., the son of the late James
and Pricie Mullins.
His wife, Rita Mullins, survives.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 at the L. Eugene
Smith & Son Funeral Home in New Vienna.

Kenneth E. Massie, 71, of Bloomingburg, died on Wednesday, Oct. 24,
2001 at Mount Carmel Medical Center.
He was born in Pickaway County on June 20, 1930 to Oliver and
Mildred (Oty) Massie.
Mr. Massie served in the Ohio National Guard and lived most of his
life in Fayette County. He was retired from Pennington Bakery after 35
years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee (Scott) Massie of
Bloomingburg; children, Dorothy (Rodney) Whiteside, Robert 'Bob' (Jane Ann)

Verlia M. Williams, 85, of Greenfield, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001 at
Edgewood Manor.
She was born on Jan. 11, 1916, in Clarksburg, to John and Margaret
(Stevenson) Roberts. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Washington Avenue
House of Prayer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Forrest Williams in 1982; two brothers, Gerald and Wilbur Roberts; and four
sisters, Lucille Miley, Betty Groves, Garnett Cottrill and Leola Riley.
She is survived by her children, Donald Williams, of Washington C.H.,
Joe (Faith) Williams, of Frankfort, Tom Williams and Larry (Linda)
Williams, both of Greenfield, eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren
and three great-great grandchildren; brother, Harold Roberts, of Dayton;

PIKETON - Mrs. Florence Lawson, 75, of Route 2 died at 2:15 a.m.
Saturday in Pike County Hospital after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1891, in Pike County, she was the daughter of James F.
and Sarah Ellen Swiger Gleason. In 1912, she was married to Frank A.
Lawson, who died Jan. 2, 1958.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Glenora Litterst of Frankfort and
Mrs. Georgia Jackson of Route 2; three sons, Walter of Mansfield, Harold of
Waverly Route 2 and James of Route 2; 12 grandchildren; four great
grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Francis Silcott of Waverly, Rte. 2.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Howe Co. Funeral Home here.

Edgar W. Crowe Jr., 55, of New Holland, died on Monday, Oct. 22,
2001 at 10:42 a.m. in the Fayette County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 26, 1946 in Chillicothe to Edgar and Marie
(Lansing) Crowe Sr., both deceased. He spent most of his life in New
Holland. Mr. Crowe had been an employee of The Morrison Farm. He was a
member of the Church on Frontline in Clarksburg.
Mr. Crowe is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Williams) Crowe, whom he
married on March 8, 1978; three children, Wendell, Jennifer and Brittnie
Crowe, all at home; four brothers, Richard (Pam) Crowe of New Holland, Larry
Crowe of Clarksburg, Robert (Melinda) Crowe of Jeffersonville, and Dave
(Bobbie) Crowe of Jackson; a sister, Linda (Dwight) Hester of Chillicothe;
his mother-in-law, Wanda Williams of Bainbridge; several nieces and nephews;
and special friends June and Sparky Boysel of Mt. Sterling and Wendell
Morrison of New Holland.

Ruth A. Reisinger Altman, 60, of Clarksburg, died unexpectedly
at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 in Mt. Carmel West Medical Center in
Columbus.
She was born June 30, 1941 in Ross County, the daughter of the
late Wilbur 'Bill' and Herma Reeves Sever.
On July 19, 1990 she married James Altman who survives.

She was born June 1, 1916 in Ross County, the daughter of John Henry
Cartwright and Olive (Beechler) Cartwright. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was a private duty nurse.
She was preceded in death by brother, Lewis Edward Cartwright;
grandson, Joe Staats and both parents.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Evelyn J. Tom, of
Hillsboro, Judy and Elmo Purdin, of Greenfield; two sons and

SOUTH SALEM - Rev. Ronald Green of Columbus and Rev. H. F.
Miller officiated at last rites for Alexander Spurgeon, 82, at the Methodist
church here at 2 p.m. today.
Interment
was made in the local cemetery by the Murray Co. of
Greenfield.
Mr. Spurgeon died at 5 a.m. Saturday at his home in Lower Twin
community after a lingering illness of several months. He was widely known
in this section of Ross county where he spent most of his life.
Surviving are the widow; one son, Lafayette at home, and four
daughters, Mrs. Harold Hester, Mrs. Harriett Benson, Mrs. Glenn Ryan and
Mrs. Cora Hoffman.

"Funeral services were held at the South Salem Methodist church at
2:30 p.m. Wednesday for Mrs. Lillie Spurgeon, of near Fruitdale, who passed
away at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus. She had been in failing health for
two years. The deceased was a former resident of the Jasper community. She
was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Levy and was united in marriage to
Alexander Spurgeon, who preceded her in death. Besides a daughter, Mrs.
Hattie Spurgeon Benson, who met an untimely death at her home near
Greenfield, several years ago. Surviving are a son, Lafe, of Fruitdale and
three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Huffman, of Fruitdale; Mrs. Glenn Ryan and Mrs.
Harold Hester, of Lyndon, Ohio.

Pauline Eubanks, 96, of Bainbridge, died at 4:40 a.m. Oct 31, 2001
at Heartland Nursing Home, Hillsboro.
She was born Jan. 22, 1905 in Ross County, the daughter of Robert
P. and Anna Sterling Jones. She married Henry Eubanks, who died in 1972.
She is survived by daughter, Helen Brewsbaugh, of Bainbridge.
She was a member of the Bainbridge Church of Christ, where the
service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov 5, 2001, with Troy Villars
officiating. Burial will be in the Bainbridge Cemetery.

William C. Carman, 74, retired farmer and a past worthy president
of the Eagles lodge, died early today in his home, 347 Lafayette st. He
had been ill for eight years.
A native of Fayette county, he was born Nov. 19, 1879, a son of
William and Lydia Roff Carman.
He was married to Bessie Hollar, who survives with two daughters and
three sons; Mrs. Walter Beechler, Lyndon Rt. 1, Mrs. Mora Puckett, Rt. 3,
Robert Carman, of Columbus, Kenneth, of Dayton, and Theodore, at home; two
brothers, Harry Carman, of New Holland, and John Carman, of Fort Lauderdale,
Fla., and 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was
pre-deceased by two daughters.
Service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Murray funeral home
with Rev. Frank Milner officiating. Interment
will be made in South Salem
cemetery.
