Marion J. Sindel
(1913 - 2000)
EDGERTON - Marion J. Sindel, 87, of rural Edgerton, died Monday evening, Feb. 28, 2000, in Park View Nursing Center, Edgerton, following a lingering illness.
Born Feb. 4, 1913, near Edgerton, he was the son of Estella (Mowry) and Fred Sindel, a graduate of Edgerton High School, and was a lifelong Edgerton area farmer, retiring in 1975. On Feb. 29, 1936, he married C. Fern Wertman, and she preceded him in death on July 24, 1996. Surviving are a son, Jack (and wife, Melanie) of Edgerton; two daughters, Mrs. John (Jean) Goebel and Mrs. Tom (Shirley) Wickerham, both of Edgerton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Sindel in 1996; three brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, on Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Lloyd Turnbull officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
Memorials may be made to the West Milford Church of Christ or Hospice, the Caring Way of Williams and Fulton Counties.
Anna Konecny
(1906 - 2000)
BOWLING GREEN - Anna Konecny, 93, of Bowling Green, a former Bryan resident, died Monday morning, Feb. 28, 2000, in Bowling Green.
Born April 18, 1906, in Austria/Hungary, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Motycka) and Martin Studenka. On Aug. 20, 1927, she married Frank Konecny, and he died in 1931.
She attended the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green, and worked as a homemaker. Surviving are a son, Charles of Bowling Green; a sister, Lydia Sameck of Grosse Isle, Mich.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Henry and an infant son, Frank; a sister, Mary Simek; and four brothers, John, Frank, Charles and Emil.
Visitation will be at the Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A rosary service will be Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 Wednesday, both at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Scheleter officiating, with burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Archbold.

Ronald J. Jodry

STRYKER - Services for Ronald J. Jodry, 82, who died Saturday evening, Feb. 26, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident, are scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker. Pastors Thurman Payton and David Jodry will officiate. Burial will be in the French Cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

Atha E. Stahl
AKRON - Atha E. Stahl, 89, of Akron, a former Williams County resident, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Pebble Creek Nursing Home. She had lived in Akron the last eight years.
Born in Alvordton, she was the daughter of Lucy (Miller) and Harvey Stahl and was a missionary teacher in Kentucky for 30 years with the United Brethren denomination. A member of the Alvordton United Brethren Church, she loved children and raised a mission child, Sue, as her daughter.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Rev. David (Sue) Atkinson of Lakemore; two grandchildren, Mrs. Kenneth (Shaunna) Bolton of California and Mrs. Alan (Cynthia) Mellinger of Westerville; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Stahl of Florida; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Merle.
Friends may call at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, from 5-8 p.m. today, and at the Alvordton United Brethren Church from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Alvordton United Brethren Church with the Rev. Devon Strine officiating. Burial will be in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.

Clyde C. Swilling
(1916 - 2000)
STRYKER - Clyde C. Swilling, 83, of Stryker, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in the Community Hospitals of Williams County-Montpelier.
Born on June 11, 1916, in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of Pansy (Slater) and Clyde Swilling, and married Sadie Unrue Besancon on May 24, 1997, and she survives. Before his retirement he was an engineer for the U.S. Government. Mr. Swilling was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stryker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Faith Lambert of Arlington, Va.; a stepdaughter, Marie Besancon; and two stepsons, Michael (and wife, Constance) Besancon of Evanston, Ill., Charles (Sharron) Besancon of New Bern, N.C.; a granddaughter and 11 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and a brother.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held in the First Baptist Church in Stryker on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Douglass officiating. Burial will be later in the National Memorial Garden in Fairfax, Va.
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church.

William B. Parish

HICKSVILLE - William B. Parish, 58, of Hicksville, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 12, 1942, in Upper Sandusky, he was the son of Eleanor (Gum) and Herbert Parish, and graduated from North Side High School with the class of 1960. A member of the Hicksville Nazarene Church, he had worked for many years for the Dana Corp. at Churubusco, Ind.
Surviving are a daughter, Natalie McLaughlin of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a son, Bruce Parish of Toledo; three grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn Payne of Knoxville, Tenn.
Friends may call at the Brown Funeral home in Hicksville after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Knapp officiating.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Upper Sandusky.

Raymond E. Miller

HICKSVILLE - Raymond E. Miller, 72, of Hicksville, died early Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday.
Born Sept. 16, 1927, at Saxton, Mo., he was the son of Mary (Gingerich) and Ezra Miller. On March 30, 1985, he was united in marriage with Nola Lamphiear at Fort Wayne, Ind., and she died June 27, 1997.
Mr. Miller worked for Coblentz Construction Co. in Hicksville and retired from Terry Industries in Edgerton in 1985 after 10 years of service.
Surviving are three sisters, Clara Mullett of Hicksville, Annie Gingerich of Frederickburg and Naomi Carpenter of Kernersville, N.C.; two brothers, Ora Miller of Millersburg and Edward Miller of Centerville, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Sharon Lamphiear of Napoleon, Shirley Thomas of Paulding and Susan Lamphiear of Fort Wayne; a stepson, Robert Lamphiear of Fort Wayne and five stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Friends may call at the Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville after 2 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Noah Delagrange officiating.
Burial will be in the Lost Creek Cemetery at Hicksville.
Mark Goldsmith
(1955 - 2000)
Mark Goldsmith, 45, of Bryan, died early today, Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. Born in Bryan on Feb. 19, 1955, he was the son of Alice Jean and Cecil William Goldsmith, and was a 1973 graduate of Bryan High School, of Miami University in 1977, and received his master's degree from USCLA in San Diego, Calif.
In 1984, he married Pamela Faroute, and she survives.
He was employed by Johnson Controls Inc. in San Diego, retiring in 1988. He was a past member of the Rogue River, Ore., Kiwanis Club and an active member of the Lebanon, Conn., Congregational Church. An accomplished instrumental musician, he sang in church choirs in California, Oregon and Connecticut
He was active in Williams County Playhouse, recently serving as lighting person for the local community theater.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father and stepmother, Cecil and Shirley Goldsmith, Bryan; his mother, Alice Jean Goldsmith, of Bryan; two sisters, Alona Jean McAfee of Bryan and Rebecca Susan Robinson of Windsor, Conn.
Preceding him in death from cystic fibrosis were brothers, William Ward in 1951, Robert Steven in 1957 and Alan James in 1976; grandparents, Winifred and Oscar Eaton of Bryan and Ona and Alonzo Goldsmith of Findlay.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Rice Funeral Home in Bryan. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dwight Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or a charity of the donorŐs choice.
Charles J. Kinsman
(1925 - 2000)
ARCHBOLD-Charles J. Kinsman, 74, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 at home. He was born March 15, 1925 in Adrian, Mich., the son of Charles and Mabel (Gillespie) Kinsman. On Dec. 25, 1946 he married Miriam Rupp and she preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 1998. On April 19, 1999 he married Mildred A. Lugbill and she survives.
An Archbold area resident for over 50 years, Mr. Kinsman farmed, worked for Boyers Construction, Clarence Baer Cabinet Co., Fielitz Cabinet Shop and Sauder Village. During World War II, he served in the Army 87th Infantry where he received three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
Mr. Kinsman was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church, the Gideon's International, T-Bone Club, a former member of the Farm Bureau, Cattle Feeders Assn., and received the State Farmer Degree from the Future Farmers of American.
Preceding Mr. Kinsman in death were his parents; first wife; an infant daughter, Shirley; two grandchildren, Deanne Fortier and Ryan Kinsman; an infant brother, Clarence; and an infant sister, Helen Kinsman.
He is survived by his wife; four sons: Larry (Candy) Kinsman, Dean (Marliyn) Kinsman, Douglas (Valerie) Kinsman, and Allan (Donna) Kinsman, all of Archbold; one daughter, Patricia (Charles) Nicholls of Archbold; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; four brothers: George Kinsman of Honolulu, Floyd (Dorthea) Kinsman of Northwood, Robert (Judy) Kinsman of Delta, and Merlin "Mert" (Judy) Kinsman of Archbold.
Visitation will be at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, 300 Park St. from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and from 3-9 p.m. on Sunday.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Church with Pastors Matthew Boyers and Thomas Louis officiating. Interment
will precede in the Pettisville Cemetery. Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are to be given to the Gideon's, Hospice, or Miracle Camp.
Shirley A. Van Nortwick
(1909 - 2000)
Shirley A. Van Nortwick, 90, of Bryan and a former resident of Kunkle, Bird Lake, Mich. and Hillsdale, Mich., died Friday morning, Feb. 25, 2000 in Harborside Healthcare of Northwest Ohio following a lingering illness.
Born February, 28, 1909, near Hicksville, to Rosa (Campbell) and Irwin Gie Haddix, she was a 1928 graduate of Edgerton High School. On Aug. 19, 1933 she married Orlo K. Van Nortwick and he preceeded her in death on Jan. 13, 1972.
Mrs. Van Nortwick was a member of the Hillsdale Assembly of God Church, 38 year member of Diamond Chapter #127, Order of Eastern Star of Osseo where she had served as Worthy Matron in 1962 and 1963. She became a member of the Moscow Chapter #166, O.E.S. of Moscow, Mich. when the Diamond Chapter merged with the Moscow Chapter and was honored as a Life member in 1994.
She is survived by three sons: Jerry Van Nortwick and Thomas O. (Karen) Van Nortwick both of Montpelier and Donald R. (Mignon) Van Nortwick of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Allen Haddix of Angola and Iven Haddix of St. Louis; five sisters, Sevilla Miller of Adrian, Corda Curtis of Angola, Elsie Stambaugh of Milton, Fla., Viola Keller of Columbia, and Iva Grace (Paul) Redmond of Pace, Fla. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 25 great grand children and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Van Nortwick was preceeded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Owen, Irwin and Stephen Haddix; a step-mother Thresia (Goebel) Haddix; and two grandsons, Thomas Michael and Andrew Glen.
Visitation will be at the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Eastern Star Memorial Services will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Sunday. Services for Mrs. Van Nortwick will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Allen G. Rutter officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery near Osseo, Mich. Preferred Memorials are to Hospice Care of Community Hospitals of Williams County.
Pluma Short
ARCHBOLD - Pluma Short, 93, of Archbold, died early this morning, March 1, 2000, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold. She was the widow of Sylvan Short.
Arrangements are pending at Short Funeral Home.
Doris E. Bonifas
CELINA - Doris E. Bonifas, 84, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Celina Manor. Born in Elliott, Ill., she was a retired bus driver at Cheryl Ann School.
Surviving are four sons, including Dennis Bonifas of Edgerton; six daughters; 33 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Emmit, died in 1998.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Lehman Funeral Home in Celina.
Funeral Mass will be Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina with burial at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.

J. Kirk Krutsch

CLEARWATER, Fla. - J. Kirk Krutsch, 83, of Palm Harbor, and formerly of Bryan, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He had moved to Florida in 1981.
Born in Defiance, Ohio, on Aug. 27, 1916, he was the son of Hazel (Kirk) and Joseph C. Krutsch and was married for 55 years to Annabelle (Fisher).
A member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Clearwater, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, graduated from Ohio State University, and received his master's degree from Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. He was director of compensation and benefits for Aro Corp. in Bryan for 15 years, and taught in Defiance High School.
He is survived by his wife, Annabelle of Palm Harbor; three sons, David of Orlando, Paul of Redlands, Calif. and Thomas of San Ramon, Calif.; a daughter, Kathi McClanahan of Grand Blanc, Mich.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Saturday morning in the church.
Hubert J. Hesselschwardt

DEFIANCE - Hubert J. Hesselschwardt, 74, of rural Defiance, died in his home Monday evening, Feb. 28, 2000.
Born on Oct. 13, 1925, in Washington Township, Defiance County, he was the son of Lillian (Grine) and Bernard Hesselschwardt. On April 26, 1952, he married Hildonna Sheet and she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Japan, he was a member of Marysdale-Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Men's Holy Name Society. He retired from General Motors in 1991 after 42 years as a journeyman millwright.
He was a life member of the Defiance Knights of Columbus, the Jewell American Legion, the Defiance Eagles, Defiance Fish and Game, National Rifle Association and UAW Local 211. He was also past member of the Noble Township Fire Dept. and the State Patrol Auxiliary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Lillian, of Defiance; two sons, Gale and Michael, both of Ney; two daughters, Donna Hesselschwardt of Defiance and Mrs. Mark (Deborah) Duquette of Barstow, Calif.; a brother, Edgar of Hicksville; three sisters, Mrs. Gilbert (Junella) Coolman of Ney, Mrs. James (Illa) Lutz of Edon and Mrs. Robert (Monica) Hearne of Defiance; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; four infant sons; and a brother, Marvin.
Visitation will be at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home in Defiance on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and on Friday from 2-9 p.m. A rosary service will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Marysdale Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Father William Martin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery where the Jewell American Legion will conduct honorary military graveside rites. Memorials may be given to Defiance County Hospice the Caring Way or the donor's choice.
Christein Dietrich
(1905 - 2000)
NEY - Christean Dietrich, 94, of Ney, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 26, 2000, in Community Hospital of Williams County-Bryan.
Born in Junction on Aug. 14, 1905, she was the daughter of Mary Katherine (Warnement) and Nicholas Grine, and had worked at Bryan Manufacturing for 10 years. She was the widow of Harold Watson Dietrich, who preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1983.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (and wife, Mary) and Forest (Madalyn) both of Ney; two daughters, Mrs. John (Luella) Weller of Ney and Nancy Dwyer of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Lillian Hesselschwardt of Defiance; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Robert Grine; and three sisters, Celia Bercaw, Helen Reader and Ida Kunish.
The family will receive friends in the Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home-Bryan, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Buchsteiner officiating. Burial will follow in Farmer Cemetery.
