MONTPELIER - W. Eugene Baker, 96, of Montpelier, died Sunday morning, July 9, 2000, in Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier, following a lingering illness.
Born near Montpelier on Jan. 7, 1904, to Hattie Evelyn (Reese) and Delbert Leroy Baker, he was a lifelong Montpelier resident. On July 14, 1932 he was married to B. Irene (Abbott) and she survives.
Before retiring in 1969, he had worked 30 years as a mechanic with Woodruff Auto Parts in Montpelier.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Baker; and a sister, Opal Lash.
The family will receive friends in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, with Pastor Don Harris officiating.

Cheryl Lynn Edinger
MONTPELIER - Cheryl Lynn Edinger, 54, of Montpelier, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in her home of an apparent heart attack.
Among her survivors are her husband, Robert.

EDGERTON - Harold J. Flegal, 63, of Edgerton, died Sunday evening, July 9, 2000, in his home, following an illness of several months.
He was born Feb. 26, 1937, in Blakeslee, to Kathryn (Dietsch) and Bernard Flegal. On Jan. 10, 1990, he married Cecelia "Cissy" (Brown) and she survives.
The owner of Harold Flegal Excavating, he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edgerton, as well as the Hamilton Fish and Game Club in Hamilton, Ind. and the Angola (Ind.) Moose Lodge.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Timothy (and wife, Julie) Flegal of Edgerton; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Christine) Bryant of Edgerton; five stepsons, Timothy (Marie) Brown of Farmington Hills, Mich., James (Schereene) Brown, Michael Brown, Anthony (Amanda) Brown, all of Edgerton, and David Matthew (Peggy) Brown of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert (Jennifer) Bowsher of Hicksville; a brother, James (Carla) Flegal of Edgerton; three sisters, JoAnn Vogelsong of Ney, Sandra Waldvogel of Stryker, and Pam Miller of Wauseon; and 20 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edgerton at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Edgerton.

Carl Haas Sr.
(1922 - 2000)
DELTA - Carl Haas Sr., 78, of Delta, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, in his home.
Born Feb. 1, 1922, in Fulton County, he was the son of Amelia (Stromberger) and Conrad Haas. On Feb. 24, 1946, he married Isabelle Sintobin, and she survives. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon.
A lifelong farmer who enjoyed raising watermelons and tomatoes, he was also employed with the Jeep Corp. for 15 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Carl Jr. of Delta, Harold (and wife, Lynette) of Perrysburg, Leslie (Debra) of Delta and Terry (Amy) of Toledo; a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Barbara) Lichtenwald of Delta; 10 grandchildren; seven sisters, Amelia Haas Kasper of Wauseon, Katherine Wanner of Lyons, Mrs. Robert (Rosa) Williams of Perrysburg, Bertha Graber of Pettisvile, Mrs. James (Martha) Wagner of Wauseon, Mrs. Hal (Irene) Garrow of Wauseon, and Laura Mull of Delta; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Dean Haas; a granddaughter and three sisters, Anna, Marie and Ada Lucille.
Visitation will be today from 4-9 p.m. and Tuesday 10 a.m-2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Revs. Timothy Sonnenberg and Scott Silcox officiating. Interment
will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Delta Fire and Rescue Department.

Ned A. Nisley

EDGERTON - Ned A. Nisley, 69, of rural Edgerton, died late Friday evening, July 7, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fort. Wayne, Ind., following an extended illness.
He was born July 10, 1930, near Kunkle, to Ruth (Stambaugh) and William Nisley. On July 14, 1950, in Farmer, he was married to Virginia Dietsch, and she survives.
A veteran of the United States Army during the Korean conflict, he was a truck driver for 18 years, most recently working for TMX trucking. He and his wife also operated Rosedale Stables and Harness Shop near Edgerton and he was a past president and member of the Buckeye Border Bluegrass Club. He was also a maintenance man for Milford Township.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joe Nisley of Bryan; three daughters, Mrs. Alonzo (Mary) Buchs of Edgerton, Cheryl Nisley of McComb, and Mrs. Walter (Rose) Carpenter of Edgerton; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly Perkins of Kunkle.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jac Nisley; and a granddaughter, Chasity Carpenter. Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. at the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor James O. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Farmer Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Sarah Elizabeth "Lib" DeGroff
WEST UNITY - Sarah Elizabeth "Lib" DeGroff, 85, died in her home Saturday, July 8, 2000.
She was born Feb. 7, 1915, in West Unity to Ruth (Heacock) and Fred Altman. A lifelong resident of West Unity, she was a graduate of West Unity High School in 1934. On Aug. 7, 1935, she married Maynard DeGroff and he survives.
From 1935 until 1973, she and her husband owned and operated the West Unity Bakery and Coffee Shop in West Unity.
Mrs. DeGroff was a member of the West Unity United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women of that church and had directed the children's choir for many years. She also sang in the adult choir. She was a member and former Worthy Matron of Unity Chapter #158 Order of the Eastern Star, West Unity.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, John of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Lenore Miller of Toledo and Mrs. Truman (Mary Jane) Evans of Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth DeGroff of Decatur, Ind. and Daniel DeGroff of Berne, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Keifer.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services were to have been today at Floral Grove Cemetery in West Unity, with Pastor Sue Babb officiating.

Herman C. Sanders
(1921 - 2000)
Herman C. Sanders, 78, died Friday, July 7, 2000 in Toledo Hospital. Mr. Sanders was a retired toll plaza supervisor with the Ohio Turnpike and a retired manager of the Fabricare Cleaners & Coin Laundry in Bryan. He was a member of the Bryan Eagles #2233, the Bryan Moose Lodge 1064 and a World War II army veteran.
Mr. Sanders was born in Fordsville, Ky. on December 20, 1921 to Willie B. and Filnea (Johnson) Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Howard and Louis.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley A. (Kilburn) Sanders; a son, James Spears of Columbus; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, James J. Sanders of Stanley, Ky.; two sisters, Charity Richards of Stanley, Ky., Louise Brown of Odon, Ind.; two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Henry E. (Irene) Ford, Mrs. Gerald (Jean) Wheetley; five brothers-in-laws, Calvin, Don, Willie, Willis and Jack Gentry; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be in the Rice Funeral Home in Bryan on Sunday, July 9 from 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Services for Herman C. Sanders will be held on Monday, July 10, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the Rice Funeral Home in Bryan. Burial will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery.
Memorials in the name of Herman C. Sanders may be made to the World War II Veterans Memorial.
Mildred J. Winover

McCLURE-Mildred J. Winover, 72, died Thursday, July 6, 2000 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
Mrs. Winover was a homemaker and babysitter. She was a member of the Archbold Church of Christ and the Ladies Auxiliary of Roberts-McMillen American Legion Post #322.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Lorentz, a brother, Fred Lorentz and her husband Kenneth J. Winover.
Surviving are a son, Roger Winover of McClure; daughter, Nancy Kline of Napoleon; daughter Mrs. Dan (Rose) Myers of Napoleon; brothers, Robert and Edward Lorentz of Bryan; brother, Jake Lorentz of Edgerton; sisters, Helen Castor and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Flory of Bryan and sister, Mrs. Rex (Ruth) Detwiller of West Unity.
Visitation will be Monday, July 10 from noon to 2 p.m. at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Inc. in McClure.
Graveside Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hockman Cemetery in McClure with Mr. Mike Harbour officiating.

Laurel A. Clingaman

DELTA - Laurel A. Clingaman, 97, formerly of Wauseon, died early Friday morning, July 7, 2000, at Our Country Home near Delta, where he had resided since December of 1999.
Born Dec. 2, 1902, near Archbold, he was the son of Leona (Rebeau) and Solomon Clingaman. He married Blanche Turney on Feb. 28, 1925, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1996. A retired farmer and lifetime area resident, he was a member of the West Franklin Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, Robert (and wife, Nancy) Clingaman of Delta; a daughter, Mrs. Gale (Carol) Burkholder of Fayette; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Evangeline Barnhart of Churubusco, Ind.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence; and a sister, Minnie Brown.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. on Saturday.
Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Archbold with Minister Larry Snow officiating. Interment
will follow in the Tedrow Cemetery.

Jack L. Harding

PIONEER - Jack L. Harding, 54, of Pioneer, died in his home early today, July 7, 2000.
He was born August 29, 1945 to Daisy (Landers) and Fern Harding. In 1965, he married Judy Yoder and she survives.
In 1999, he retired, after working 12 years as street superintendent for the Village of Pioneer. Prior to his village service, he was a self-employed carpenter. He was a social member of the Pioneer V.F.W.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Julie) Fackler of Pioneer; a brother, Warren "Bud" DeLong of Angola, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Norris (Bonita) Richmond of Angola; two grandchildren, Talisha and Derek Zuver, both of Pioneer; and five stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, four sisters and a grandson, Travis Harding.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Pioneer Church of the Nazarene, with interment
to follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.

Sarah M. "Sadie" Pilliod

SWANTON - Sarah Marie "Sadie" Pilliod, 76, of Swanton, died at her home Wednesday, July 5, 2000.
She was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Wauseon to Laura and David Njaim and was a member of St. Richard's Church and its Rosary Altar Society in Swanton. A graduate of Delta High School, class of 1941, she was employed by the Pet Milk Company, the Delta Livestock Auction, L&R Department Store, and for many years at her family's business, Njaim's Restaurant in Delta. For 10 years, she and her husband also tutored at St. Richard's School.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, David Pilliod of Swanton and Chris (and wife Deb) Pilliod of Sinking Spring, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Sarah) Anderson of Monclova and Mrs. Jeff (Mary) McMahon of Toledo; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Stanley (LaVerne) Shaffer of Stryker.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Soloman Njaim.
Relatives and friends may gather at St. Richard's Church from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Interment
will be at St. Richard's Cemetery.

Dona Lou Walton

MAUMEE - Dona Lou Walton, 62, of Maumee died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at her daughter's home in Montpelier.
She was born July 5, 1938, to Helen J. (McLaughlin) and James S. Thompson. After attending Libbey High School, she attained her GED. For approximately the last 20 years, Dona worked as a hospital aide, with persons who have developmental disabilities, at The Northwest Ohio Developmental Center in Toledo.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Karen) Benner of Montpelier; two sons, Jon (and wife, Amy) Walton of Newark, Del. and Don (Vicki) Walton of Walbridge; two brothers, Robert J. Thompson and Rowland E. Thompson, both of Toledo; two sisters, Rita J. Lewis of Toledo and Mrs. Thomas (Evelyn) Becker of Delta; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Thompson.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date, with Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier, in charge of local arrangements.

Raymond W. Schneider

STRYKER - Raymond W. Schneider, 81, of Stryker died Monday, July 3, 2000, in the Community Hospitals of Williams County in Bryan.
He was born on March 19, 1919, to Mayme (Neuenschwander) and George Schneider. A retired farmer and businessman, he married Esther Lorentz, who preceded him in death in 1998. Surviving are a son, Roy Schneider of Stryker; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Marsha) Riley of Stryker; Darla Goldsmith of Wauseon and Trisha Schneider of Defiance; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a daughter.
There will be no calling hours and the funeral services will be private. Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker is in charge of the arrangements.
Warren D. Richardson
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Warren D. Richardson, 56, of Ft. Lauderdale, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000.
Born in Hillsdale, Mich., and formerly from Bryan, Ohio, he was a travel consultant.
He is survived by his father, Denver Richardson of Bryan; daughters Lisa Lambo of Mason and Laura Hayden of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Terence (Judith) Lee of North Lauderdale; brothers Jeffrey (and wife, Rose) and Scott (Cindy), both of Bryan; long-time friend, Ron Chevalier and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Richardson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Fairchild Funeral Home, 299 N. Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale with funeral services to follow at 4 p.m.

Bonnie E. (Beard) Martens
MONTPELIER - Bonnie E. (Beard) Martens, 63, of St. Petersburg, Fla, and a longtime Montpelier resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Northview Hospital, St. Petersburg, following heart surgery.
Born April 16, 1937, in Montpelier, to Elva O. (Stantz) and Ralph Stahler, she had been a Montpelier area resident until relocating to Florida five years ago.

Linda Lou Gorsuch

WAUSEON - Linda Lou Gorsuch, 60, of Wauseon, died Saturday July 1, 2000, following an extended illness.
She was born in Defiance County on Oct. 4, 1939, to Vera (Ball) and Otto Kline. She was a home health care aide for many years and had recently become a member of St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon.
Surviving are two sons, William (and wife, Vickie) Gorsuch of Midland, Mich., Robert (Jeny) Gorsuch of Lompoc, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Sandy) Friess of Delta and Colleen Gorsuch of West Unity; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Keezer of Edgerton and Bob Kline of Ney; four sisters, Shirley Grant of Bryan, Norma Jean Schlosser of Swanton, Corey Spieser of Defiance and Mildred Heintz of Gaylord, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Thelma Maberson and an infant brother Buddy Keezer.

Ernest E. Gideon

MONTPELIER - Ernest E. Gideon, 56, of Decatur, Ill., died Tuesday night, June 20, 2000, in Costa Rica, after suffering an apparent heart attack while on vacation. Born Jan. 1, 1944, in Taylorville, Ill., he was the son of Betty L. (Davis) and John W. Gideon, and was a former resident of Montpelier. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had formerly been employed at Martin-Sprocket and Gear in Montpelier.
Surviving are his wife, Diane (Hazlet); a son, John E. "Cakes" Gideon of Montpelier; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Scott (Regina Faunce) Roberts of Montpelier; two grandchildren, Bryce and Connie Roberts, both of Montpelier.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the home of his sister-in-law and family, Linda and John Kreischer Jr., 420 S. East Ave., in Montpelier.
Graveside funeral services will be private at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.

Lucille I. Carr

HICKSVILLE - Lucille I. Carr, 87, of Hicksville, died Tuesday morning, July 4, 2000, at her daughter's home. She had been in failing health for the last three month. She was born June 27, 1913, in Defiance County to Mary (Mohr) and Charles Flory.
She graduated from Jewell High School. In 1933 she was married to Paul E. Carr, who died Sept. 25, 1980.
A lifelong homemaker, she was a member of the Hicksville Presbyterian Church, and a Sunday School teacher, church elder, deacon and member of the women's organization. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, All Together Club and was a Red Cross volunteer for many years. She received the Red Cross Citizen of the Year Award and was a member of the Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janis) Meyer and Mrs. Lynn (Suzanne) Haver, both of Hicksville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Quentin Flory of Jewell.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and an infant sister.
Friends may call today at the Brown Funeral Home after 2 p.m. and from 9-12 Thursday, also after 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hicksville First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Naugle officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery in Hicksville.
