MONTPELIER - Daniel W. Mullins Sr., 55, of Montpelier, died early Thursday morning, Feb. 2, 2001, in the Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan, following a brief illness.

Jackson Lavada Brady

Jackson Lavada Brady, 71, of Bryan and formerly of Knoxville, Tenn., died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at the Dilworth Center in Montpelier, where he had been a patient since Jan. 24.
Born in Knoxville on Jan. 10, 1930, to Grace (Brown) and Ramath Brady, he had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, and had retired in 1992 after a long career in the telecommunications industry.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Brown of Bryan; a son, Steven Brady of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandsons, Greg, Christopher and Toby Brown; a great-granddaughter, Kalyn Brown; a sister, Belva Fowler of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his second wife Edith (Dee Dee); his parents; three brothers; a sister; and an infant son.
Funeral services were to have been held at the Dante Baptist Church in Knoxville today with graveside services and interment
in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Dilworth Center in Montpelier.
Jack Stull

MONTPELIER - Jack Stull, 66, of Montpelier, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, 2001, in Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton.
Born Nov. 11, 1934, in Centerville, Mich., to Winonna (Slagle) and Harold Stull, he was married to Margaret Lyons on July 18, 1960, in Albion, Mich., and she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served as an SP3 from January 1955 until his Honorable Discharge in April 1957. He was employed by Salga Inc. until his retirement.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Terry Stull of Montpelier, Jerry Stull of Bryan and Wesley Stull of Montpelier; a brother, Harold Stull of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three sisters, Wilma Bible, Helen Stull and Betty Cluff, all of Montpelier; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Preceding him in death were his parents.
The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. on Friday at the Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home in Bryan.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Rose Lewis of The Prayer Chapel officiating. Interment
will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier, with veteran's services to be held graveside.

Lura Irene Roebuck

DEFIANCE - Lura Irene Roebuck, 84, of Defiance, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, 2001, in Defiance.
Born in Defiance on June 5, 1916, to Nettie (Diamond) and Glen Brubaker, she was married to the Rev. Victor C. Roebuck in 1934, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
A graduate of Defiance High School, she received her bachelor's degree from Ashland University, her master's degree from Purdue University, and did post graduate studies at Cambridge University. A teacher, she taught at Defiance High School from 1966-80, and at Defiance College from 1980-84.
She served with her husband at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Tiro from 1937-42, at the EUB in Bryan from 1942-59, at the EUB in Shelby from 1959-65, and at the EUB in Hicksville from 1965-71.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Christine) Brennan of Defiance and Mrs. David (Janet) Wagner of Goodrich, Mich.; a son, Dr. David Roebuck of Bryan; two sisters, Doris Holley of Defiance and Marguerite Pearson of St. Augustine, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; and a daughter, Roberta Vest.
Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance, and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Defiance.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church, with Rev. George Kreger officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Defiance. Memorials may be made to the Mission India.
Donald E. Kirkendall

PIONEER - Donald E. Kirkendall, 69, of Pioneer, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in the Community Hospitals of Williams County in Bryan.
Born July 17, 1931, in Putnam Co., to Bertha (Miller) and Lewis Kirkendall, he was married to Betty J. Gay on Jan. 17, 1954, in Statesboro, Ga., and she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a 1949 graduate of Pioneer High School, and had retired in 1994, after approximately 42 years as a heavy equipment operator in road construction. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 103 in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was also a member of the Pioneer American Legion, the Pioneer VFW and the Loyal Order of Moose in Montpelier.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Busch of Wauseon and Mrs. Steve (Dawn) Robison of West Unity; two sons, Terry M. Kirkendall of Pioneer and Master Sgt. Mark (and wife, Pam) Kirkendall of Wiesbaden, Germany; three brothers, Lewis (Barb) and Rolland (Lael) of Pioneer, and Dale (Billie Sue) of Montpelier; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Pauline) Alpaugh of Pioneer and Mrs. Dick (Wava) Oser of Louisville, Ky.; and seven grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; and a son, Steve A. Kirkendall in November 1984. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Lee Ortman officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer, with graveside military rites by the Pioneer Veterans.

Roy B. Sanders

EDGERTON - Roy B. Sanders, 77, of Edgerton, died early Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, 2001, in his home, following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Edgerton, to Julia Frances (Bell) and Charles B. Sanders, he was married to Margaret E. Jennings on Oct. 19, 1946, in Edgerton, and she survives.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edgerton, where he had served as deacon since 1987, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 1494, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Rappe Assembly and Do It Right Farm Bureau Council.
He was employed by International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Ind., for 25 years, until his retirement in 1983. Following retirement, he worked for Krill Funeral Service in Edgerton and had also worked for the Ohio State Highway Department for two years, and for Peverly's Port-a-Pit Chicken in Edgerton.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Michael (and wife, Jeanette) Sanders of Fort Wayne and Douglas (Sandra) Sanders of Hebron, Ky.; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Martha) Esoldo of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Mrs. Cletus (Rita) Herman of Edgerton; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Renate) Sanders of Southern Pines, N.C., and Anthony (Kathy) Sanders of Edgerton; a sister, Mary Sanders of Edgerton; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine and JoAnn Sanders, both of Edgerton.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, John and Paul Sanders and Willard Worthington; and a sister, Ruth Ann Sanders.
Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton on Thursday after 4 p.m. and on Friday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m., with a scripture service to be held at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Oedy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Edgerton.

PAULDING - Jerald Gene Rodriguez, 31, of Paulding, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident in Defiance County.
Calling hours will be at the DenHerder Funeral Home in Paulding on Wednesday, from 2-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 8-9 a.m. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulding, with Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery in Paulding.

CAMDEN, Mich. - Barbara Julia Lawson, 46, of Camden, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale.
Born in Paulding, Ohio, on Dec. 6, 1954, to Frances (Sanchez) and Martin Vasquez, she was married to Danny Lee Lawson on Sept. 9, 1974, and he survives.
She was employed at the Hillsdale Community Health Center as an X-ray technician, and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her mother, Frances Vasquez of Bryan, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Jolene Rose) Hurst of Camden; a son, David Lee (and wife, Kim) Lawson, a member of the U.S. Army stationed in South Korea; three grandchildren, Griffin, James and Jessica; a sister, Mary Vasquez of San Fransisco, Calif.; and five brothers, Frank of Oklahoma, Martin (Donna) of Albuquerque, N.M., Xavier and Alvin (Chris) , both of Bryan, Paul (Judy) of Pioneer, Ohio, and Julian (Gabriel) of Germany.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale, with a Scripture service to be held at 6:30.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Fr. Thomas Butler officiating. Interment
will be at Frontier Cemetery.

DEFIANCE - William G. Smith, 73, of Defiance, died early this morning, Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Defiance Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1927, in Williams County, to Alta (Luke) and Ira Smith, he married Marie I. Breininger in 1962, and she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the First Church of Christ in Defiance, and had retired in 1983, after 32 years as a repairman and in service at the G.M. Central Foundry.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, William Smith Jr. of Sherwood; three daughters, Judith Anderson of Arthur, Janet Valle of Oakwood and Laura Race of Bethel; three stepsons, Eugene Thompson of Wren, Larry Thompson of Abilene, Texas, and James Thompson of Angola, Ind.; six stepdaughters, Rose Marie Karlstadt, Barbara Fowler and Linda Thompson of Bryan; Patty Ann Shankster of Milford, Ind., Sherry Thompson of Mary Ester, Fla., Lela Castro of Imperial, Calif.; a brother, John Smith of Kendalville, Ind.; 49 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a stepson Jerry Lee Thompson.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home in Defiance.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens in Defiance County, where VFW Post No. 3360 will conduct graveside military rites.

PIONEER - Marie A. Jones, 85, of Pioneer, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Grande Pointe Nursing Home in Richmond Heights.
Born April 13, 1915, in Celina, to Nora (Brodbeck) and Ernest Rice, she was married to Lawrence E. Jones, and he preceded her in death in April 1982.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Stanley (and wife, Karen) Jones of Lakeland, Fla., and Richard (Josephine) Jones of Euclid; a sister, Mrs. Ken (Bernice) Carnell of Sun City West, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Timothy, Jennifer, Amanda and Daniel; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Benjamin.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a son, Robert in 1958; two brothers, Vernon and Robert; and a sister, Margaret Deerhake.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer.

Mervin A. Farber
(1906 - 2001)
ARCHBOLD - Mervin A. Farber, 94, of Archbold, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Fulton County Health Center.
Born in Stryker on Feb. 4, 1906, to Anna (Braun) and Adolph Farber, he married Edna Rufenacht, and she preceded him in death in 1994. A 1925 graduate of Stryker High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Dennison University, and a Master of Arts in Education from The Ohio State University in 1942.
He taught science and coached many sports at Archbold High School from 1929-49, where he still holds the record of "Most Winningest Coach," and was also responsible for giving Archbold the nickname, "Blue Streaks." From 1949-54, he was Wauseon High School principal, and also taught math and science at Delta and Wauseon.
He had worked as an insurance salesman for 20 years, and from 1954-60 he owned and operated the Farber-Meier Hardware Store in Wauseon. He was the first administrator of the Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold from 1963-69.
He was chairman of the Fulton County Historical Society for 10 years and past chairman of the Fulton County Senior Center Advisory Board; a past-president of the Fulton County Human Services Advisory Board, the Fulton County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Wauseon Lions Club, the NWOAL and the former Archbold Commercial Club.
He was a member of the American Association of Commons Club, Wauseon Exchange Club, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, where he served as district director for four years. A member of the Wauseon Evangelical Mennonite Church, he was an adult Sunday School teacher for 51 years, and served as church chairman on the Deacon Board and served as secretary for the Evangelical Mennonite Church National Conference for two terms.
He was the organizer and first president of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association, and in 1982, he was named Senior Citizen of the Year by the Ohio Department of Aging. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Jeanine) Hall of Archbold; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, was a brother, Harold L. Farber.
Visitation was to have been Sunday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Wauseon, with the Rev. David Conn officiating. Interment
will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.

PETTISVILLE - Earl A. Nafziger, 85, of Pettisville, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2001, at Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon, where he had been since Jan. 11.
Born April 8, 1915, near Archbold, to Malinda (Rufenacht) and Charley Nafziger, he married Blanche Wyse on May 18, 1938, and she survives.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold/Pettisville area, he farmed for many years, and also worked at the Archbold Ladder Co. Following his retirement, he delivered donated food and materials to soup kitchens and food banks in the Toledo area. He was a member of the Central Mennonite Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Janice Nafziger of Archbold, Mrs. Harold (Rachel) Lindsay of Maugansville, Md., and Rhoda Schrag of Goshen, Ind.; nine sons, Charles (and wife, Esther) of LaJunta, Colo., Ralph of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ellis (Pat) of Wauseon, Joseph (Joyce) of Kissimmee, Fla., Emerson (Cynthia) of Champaign, Ill., Verlin (Donna) of Whitmore Lake, Mich., Robert (Deborah) of Wauseon, Roger (Laurie) of Goshen, Ind., and John (Beth) of Wauseon; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Vern J. (Evelyn) Nafziger of Archbold; and a sister, Pauline Rossman of Wauseon.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Nafziger; two brothers, Ora Nafziger and Loren Nafziger; and a sister, Lillian Sauder.

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Francis J. "Pat" Gray, 88, of Newburgh, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh.
Born Jan. 18, 1913, to Clara (Wood) and Patrick Gray, he was married to Elizabeth Halvey, who preceded him in death on July 14, 1974. On Sept. 7, 1975, he married Thyra Stillwell, who survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, and was retired in 1977 as an inspector at DuPont in Newburgh.
He was a member of the Winona Lake Fire Co., the Benevolent Association of Winona Lake Fire Co., American Legion Post No. 1420 in Newburgh, the Order of United Commercial Travelers of America No. 414, and the DuPont Quarter Century Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Thyra; are a son, Michael "Mack" (and wife, Linda) Gray of Montpelier, Ohio; their daughters, Mrs. Randal (Kelly) Buchanan and Amy Travis; and their grandchildren, Jakob, Dalton and Miranda Buchanan; a stepson, Adrian W. Stillwell IV of Newburgh; a stepdaughter, Patricia S. Williams of Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, Elizabeth, was a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" DaBrusin. Visitation was to have been held Friday at DiDonato-Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh.

HICKSVILLE - Robert "Bob" D. Beverly, 73, of Hicksville, died Tuesday evening, April 10, 2001, at the Fountain Manor Care Center in Hicksville, where he had been a resident since Oct. 28, 1997.
Born in DeKalb County, Ind., on Dec. 17, 1927, to Mary Ethel (Lenherr) and Howard Beverly, he was married to Beverly Winebrenner on Feb. 14, 1948, in Defiance, and she survives.
He attended Hicksville High School and was owner and operator of Beverly Blacktop and Excavation for 35 years in Hicksville. A charter member of the Hicksville Eagles, he was past president of the Hicksville Development Corp., a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Bryan and the International Brotherhood Operation Engineers Local 18.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Lora Yoder of Hicksville; three sons, Bob Beverly Jr., Danny Beverly and Ron Beverly, all of Hicksville; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lelah Hoover of Pleasant Lake, Ind. and Cheryl Hamilton of Hicksville.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Carl Beverly and Harold Beverly.

BELLEVUE - Agnes M. Miller, 92, of Bellevue, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Bellevue Hospital.
Born in Havanna, Ohio, on May 21, 1908, to Catherine (Miller) and Jacob Hay, she was married to Alfred L. Miller on Oct. 19, 1932, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1970.
A homemaker and lifelong Bellevue area resident, she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bellevue, and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Young at Heart and the Neighborhood Club.
Surviving are four sons, Clayton (and wife, Marilyn) of Bellevue, Charles (Anita) of Monroeville, Paul (Debbie) of Bellevue and Fr. Joseph E. Miller, CPPS of Centerville, Iowa; eight daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Catherine) McConnell of Bellevue, Mrs. Frank (Rita) Smith of Altona, Ill., Mrs. Herb (Bernadette) Stockmaster of Attica, Martha Turner and Mrs. Dale (Helen) Gasteier, both of Bellevue, Ann Pertteus of Huron, Mrs. Leroy (Rose) Nelson of Edon and Mrs. Terry (Bertha) Eishenhauer of Bellevue; 40 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

EDGERTON - Paul F. Schott, 82, of rural Edgerton, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he had been a patient since Monday. Born Dec. 30, 1918, near Edgerton, to Carrie Regina (Heisler) and Daniel Jacob Schott, he was married to Edna Mae Krill on March 29, 1947, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church near Edgerton, and she survives.
A lifelong area resident and farmer, he was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Greg (and Brenda Dickey) Schott and Ned Schott, both of Edgerton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Verne C. Schott in 1960.
Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton, and one hour prior to the service in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday.

HICKSVILLE - Myra S. Terry, 64, of Hicksville, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at her home.
Born June 29, 1936, in Corbin, Ky., to Nora (Sampson) and William Gambrel, she was married to Sammy G. Terry in Corbin on March 29, 1953, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1989. A 1953 graduate of Corbin High School, she moved to the Hicksville area in 1953 and graduated from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, Ind. and received her RN degree from Purdue University. She was employed at Hicksville Hospital, Parkview Hospital, and retired from the Harborside Care Center in Bryan in December 2000.
She was a member of the Hicksville First Church of Christ.
Surviving are two sons, Donald R. Terry of New Haven, Ind., and Paul J. Terry of Hicksville; two daughters, Anna S. Ferguson of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Shelly Reeves of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four sisters, Edna Caudill of Louisville, Ky., Jesse Garrett of North Carolina, Dorothy Hocheim of Virginia and Peggy Mehler of London, Ky.; and five brothers, Harry Gambrel of Virginia, Herbert C. "Bunny" Gambrel and Aaron Gambrel, both of Covington, Ky., Paul Gambrel of Corbin, Ky. and Joseph Gambrel of Lexington, Ky.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a brother, William; and two sisters, Ann Selby and Jean Thomas.
Friends may call at Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville after 2 p.m. today and at the Corbin Funeral Home in Corbin, Ky. after noon on Saturday.
Funeral services will be in the Corbin Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Saturday, with Harold Gambrel officiating. Burial will be in the Worley Cemetery in Corbin.
Donna M. Huber

ARCHBOLD - Donna M. Huber, 73, of Archbold, died Wednesday morning, April 11, 2001, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, where she was admitted earlier that morning.
Born June 22, 1927, near Archbold, to Mabel (Rupp) and Walter Wyse, she was married to William Huber on Aug. 12, 1950, and he survives.
A lifelong Archbold area resident, she was a bookkeeper at the former Vernier McLaughlin Probeck in Archbold and was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Wauseon. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Bill, are two brothers, Herb (and wife, Avon) Wyse of Pettisville and Walter J. (Carolyn) Wyse Jr. of Marysville; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; and two brothers, Marlin Wyse and Leon Wyse. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. on Friday in the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor David Conn officiating. Interment
will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Marilyn J. DeVore

SALINE, Mich. - Marilyn J. DeVore, 68, of Saline, and a Pioneer, Ohio, native, died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2001, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, following a lingering illness.
Born June 26, 1932, in Bridgewater Township, Williams County, Ohio, to Doris (Fiser) and Ralph C. Kurtz, she had been a Saline resident for the past 25 years. On July 30, 1966, she married Glen E. DeVore, and he survives.
A graduate of Pioneer High School, she was a 1958 graduate of Huntington College in Indiana and received a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, in 1965. She had retired in 1995 from Ann Arbor Public Schools, where she had worked as an elementary teacher for 25 years. Following retirement, she became a mentor in the Host Program for Ann Arbor Public Schools.
A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Christ in Saline, she was active with the Monthly Book Discussion Club of the Saline Public Library.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, David (and wife, Rena) DeVore of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Mary Beth) Pickford of Pioneer; two grandchildren, Amanda and Brittany Pickford; and two sisters-in-law, Wilma Kurtz of Pioneer and Ruth Luginbill of Bluffton, Ind. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Richard Kurtz; an infant sister, Pauline Kurtz; and a brother-in-law, Dale Luginbill.
The family will receive friends in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the North Bridgewater Church of God near Pioneer, with the Rev. Ken Peterkin of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier.

Roy E. Nofziger

ARCHBOLD - Roy E. Nofziger, 87, of Archbold, died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2001, at the Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon, where he had been a resident since April 4.
Born July 22, 1913, near Wauseon, to Caroline (Burkholder) and Jacob Nofziger, he was married to Lucille Frey on July 22, 1934, and she survives.
A farmer, he came into the Pettisville Grain Co. as a co-owner and operator in 1947 and continued until his retirement in 1985. He served on the Board of Directors of Tiffin Valley Bank for several years and was a charter member of the North Clinton Mennonite Church in Wauseon. He was a Pettisville resident for many years, before moving to the Fairlawn Complex in Archbold in 1993.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Rodney (and wife, Sandra) Nofziger of Pettisville and Dr. Terry (Jan) Nofziger of Paoli, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Lowell "Sie" (Jueldine) Rupp of Pettisville and Mrs. Mark (Jeanne) Birky of Hopedale, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter-in-law, Mary Helen Nofziger; five brothers, Clarence, Willis, Jesse, Elmer and Lloyd Nofziger; and a sister, Alma Beck.
Friends may call from 3-4:30 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the Fairlawn Chapel in Archbold. Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the chapel, with Pastors Brad Faler, Gary Blosser and Charles Gautsche officiating. Interment

Albert E. Haney

HICKSVILLE - Albert E. Haney, 84, of Hicksville, died early Tuesday morning, April 10, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare Center in Bryan.
Born in Haviland on Sept. 3, 1916, to Anna (Rentsch) and Fred Haney, he was married to Ruth Gordon in 1951, and she survives.
A lifelong farmer, he was a member of the Fairview Grange and attended Bethel Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Darwin A. (Nancy) Schroeder of Mark Center and Mrs. William (Linda) Ames of Grover Hill; and five grandchildren, Billy, Joy, Tony, Tina and Jeremy.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Ernest.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, with Pastor Donald Foust officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery in Paulding County.

Sylvia Ann Foute

DEFIANCE - Sylvia Ann Foute, 55, of Defiance, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at the Mease Hospital in Dunedin, Fla., where she had been vacationing.
Born in Cook County, Ill., on June 17, 1945, to Minnie (Brown) and Ernest Christie, she was married to Gerald A. Foute on Sept. 11, 1965, and he survives.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women organization.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Brett J. (and wife, Donna) Foute of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Allen W. (Tami K.) Foute of Sherwood; two grandchildren, Collin and Sarah Bishop of Sherwood; a sister, Bonnie DeDuel of Harvard, Ill.; two brothers, Jack Christie of Richmond, Ill., and Mike Christie of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother; and a sister.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in the Rice Funeral Home in Sherwood. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Sherwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Barry Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood. Marie Elizabeth Tisi

DEFIANCE - Marie Elizabeth Tisi, 55, of Defiance, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at County Road C, west of Ohio 108 in Wauseon, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born Aug. 15, 1945, in Canton, to Jean and George Machuga, she was married to Charles L. Tisi on April 8, 1967, and he also died as a result of the accident.
A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, she taught school for 27 years, spending 22 years at Farmer Elementary School. She was a member of the Teacher's Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Melissa R. Tisi of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Amy Tisi of Cleveland; her parents, Jean and George Machuga of Erie, Pa.; and a brother, Dr. Michael G. Machuga of Erie. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mast-Mock Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance, with a vigil service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
Services for Mr. and Mrs. Tisi will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, with Father Tim Kummerer officiating. Burial will be in the Evansport Cemetery in Defiance County.

Charles Louis Tisi

DEFIANCE - Charles Louis Tisi, 59, of Defiance, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at County Road C, west of Ohio 108 in Wauseon, as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Geneva on April 24, 1941, to Marian Tarantine and Dominic Tisi, he was married to Marie E. Machuga on April 8, 1967, and she also died as a result of the accident.
A U.S. Air Force SSG veteran, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was employed at T.R.W. in Fayette, in public relations/human resource management for five years, retiring in 2000. He had also worked at Ohio Art in Bryan, Clarke-American in Bowling Green and S-K Tools in Defiance.
Surviving are two daughters, Melissa R. Tisi of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Amy Tisi of Cleveland; a brother, Albert Tisi of Chesnee, S.C.; and a sister, Rosemarie Tisi of Twinsburg.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and three brothers, William, Arthur and John Tisi. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mast-Mock Hoffman Funeral Home in Defiance, with a vigil service to be held at 7:30 p.m.

Laverne E. "Vern" Browning

TONTOGANY - Laverne E. "Vern" Browning, 76, of Tontogany, and formerly of Oregon, Ohio, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, in the Dilworth Center of the Community Hospitals of Williams County-Montpelier.
Born April 17, 1924, in Weston, to Ida (Johnson) and Charles Browning, he was married to Bette Jane Dodd, and she preceded him in death.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was retired as a mechanic for a Gross Automotive, a Toledo Ford dealership, in 1997. Having lived most of his life in Oregon, he was at one time owner and operator of two service stations on Ohio 2 in Oregon, and one on Interstate 280 in Wood County. He had also been the service manager for Bill Miller Ford in Oregon.
Surviving are a brother, Donald Browning of Raleigh, N.C.; four nieces; seven nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, were his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at the Chapel at Restlawn Memorial Park on Genoa Road on Saturday at 11 a.m.

FAYETTE - Virginia R. Sands, 75, of Fayette, died late Sunday evening, April 8, 2001, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon.
She was born in Jackson County, Mich., on March 10, 1926, to Celesta Lucinda (Harris) and Eben Paul Cady. She was employed as a brake shoe grinder at Dayton Walther Co. in Fayette and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in West Unity.
Surviving are her husband, Virgil W. Sands of Fayette; a son, Wayne (and wife, Sharon) Sands of West Unity; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Ila) Dossett of Montpelier and Linda Sands and Ed Minturn of Morenci, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and a daughter, Diana Hunter.
By her request, there will be no visitation or service. Graveside services will be at the Floral Grove Cemetery in West Unity at a later date.

Regina Laverne Smith

HICKSVILLE - Regina Laverne Smith, 88, of Hicksville, died early Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the Fountain Manor Care Center in Hicksville, where she had been a resident since December 1999.
Born in New Castle, Ind., on Feb. 20, 1913, to Ida (Scranton) and Lyman T. Winn, she was married to Ralph A. Smith on March 19, 1937, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1991.
A 1930 graduate of Hicksville High School and a 1931 graduate of the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind., she was a member of the Hicksville Church of Christ, the Loyal Workers Club of Hicksville and a former member of the Farmer Get-Together Club.
She and her husband lived in Mark Center until moving to the Hicksville area in 1957, where they farmed until 1974. She had worked at the Hicksville Grain Company for several years before her retirement.
Surviving are a son, Larry J. Smith of Villa Grove, Ill.; two granddaughters, Julie Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M., and Karen Smith of Columbus; and a great-granddaughter.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, was a sister, Lodema L. Otis of Hicksville. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville.

Ruby I. Smith

HUBER HEIGHTS - Ruby (Eveson) Smith, 88, of Huber Heights, died Thursday, April 5, 2001.
Born in Windsor Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 4, 1912, she was married to Everett R. Smith on March 9, 1931, in Bowling Green, and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1965. She was a lifetime member of the North Dayton Democratic Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Betty) Bishop of Bryan; eight grandchildren including Craig (and wife, Cheryl) Bishop, Mrs. Dan (Pam) Shuck and Mrs. Mike (Dina) Culler, all of Bryan; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a nephew, Morris Foster of Windsor Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a daughter, Edna in 1997; a son, Everett "Smitty" Smith Jr.; a sister, Flory Foster; and a brother, Thomas Eveson.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at Willowview Cemetery in Dayton.
