Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sonnenberg Mennonite Church near Kidron, with the Rev. Dennis R. Kuhns officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the services at the church. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements. Surviving are children, Lloyd D. Geiser Jr. and Debra B. Geiser, both of New Stanton; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; brothers, Warren and James Purdy, both of Florida, Daniel Purdy of West Salem and David Purdy of Lebanon.

PALATKA, Fla. -- Ellis D. "Red" Edwards, 72, of Palatka, Fla., formerly of West Salem, died Thursday, Dec. 10, at St. Augustine Health & Rehabilitation Center in Florida. WOOSTER -- Leah Jane McNutt, 93, formerly of Bloomington Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 11, at Doylestown Health Care Center, following a period of declining health. Memorial Services will be Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at McGaw Chapel at the College of Wooster with the Rev. Carroll Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Doylestown Health Care Center Activity Department, 95 Black Drive, Doylestown 44230. Arrangements are being handled by Murray Funeral Home in Creston. She married Wilfrid Daniel McNutt on June 15, 1931. He died Feb. 20, 1986. Surviving are children, Don and Betty McNutt of Doylestown, Thomas and Peggy McNutt of Orlando, Fla., and Sarah and Harry Kinter of Caterbury, N.H.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Eunice Kastner of Chatham, Mass.

SUGARCREEK -- Palmer Zook, 95, formerly of Cherry Ridge Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 12, at Walnut Hills Retirement Center in Walnut Creek. He married Dona Fern Hershberger on June 18, 1927. She died Jan. 28, 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Emily Ann Vance of the home; her parents of Burbank; a brother, Kenneth Saal of Burbank; a sister, Kathlene (Richard) Frase of Wooster; her grandmother, Edith Saal of Rittman; and three nephews.

Dale Van Curen
AKRON -- Dale A. Van Curen, 64, of Akron, formerly of the Riceland area, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Barberton Citizen's Hospital. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home in Canal Fulton, with the Rev. Howard Powell officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, North Lawrence. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society; or to a charity of the donor's choice. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Parker) Van Curen; a sister, Reva Turley of Flushing; a brother, Alan Van Curen of Cadiz; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Clifford Whapham
WOOSTER -- Clifford E. "Cliff" Whapham, 73, formerly of 314 S. Bever St., died Wednesday morning, Dec. 16, 1998, at Akron City Hospital, after a long illness. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Wayne County Care Center, Wooster, with the Revs. Rufus Thompson and Claude L. McComas officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 68 of Wooster. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the Chapel. ORRVILLE -- Dorothy Helen (Adams) McMillan, 88, of OrrVilla Retirement Center in Orrville, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998. Burial will be Saturday at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Asa "Baz' Plummer
WORTHINGTON -- Asa Bazel "Baz" Plummer, 93, formerly of Worthington, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Burn Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati 45229-3095. Arrangements are being handled by Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society in Columbus. Surviving are a son, John Plummer of 2280 Friar Tuck Circle, Wooster; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Marilyn Grabo of Pendleton, Ind.

Paul Smucker
ORRVILLE -- Paul H. Smucker, of Orrville died Thursday, Dec. 17, at his home, after a short illness. He was born on April 21, 1917 in Orrville to Willard and Letha (Highnam) Smucker. He was the grandson of Jerome M. Smucker, the founder of The J. M. Smucker Company. Under Paul Smucker's leadership, The J. M. Smucker Company grew from a small, regional jam and jelly manufacturer to a company of international scope. Today, it is the nation's preeminent producer of branded preserves, jams, jellies, and other fruit spread products, health and natural foods, beverages, ice cream toppings, and natural peanut butter. Mr. Smucker is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Lorraine Smith, by his daughter, Susan Smucker Wagstaff and son-in-law, Reid Wagstaff of Carmel, Calif., his son, Tim and daughter-in-law, Jennifer of Orrville, Ohio, and his son Richard and daughter-in-law, Emily of Medina, Ohio. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Marcella Smucker Clark of Scottsdale, Arizona. The arrangements for Mr. Smucker are being handled by Auble Funeral Home of Orrville. No funeral service is planned and the family has requested that no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions may be sent either to the Paul H. Smucker Scholarship Fund at Wayne College of The University of Akron, 1901 Smucker Road, Orrville, Ohio 44667 or to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 1736 Cleveland Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691. A memorial service for Mr. Smucker will be held at Fisher Auditorium at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio, at 11 a.m. on January 9, 1999.

Betty Gerhart
ORRVILLE -- Betty J. Gerhart, 66, of 425 OrrVilla Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 17, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville with the Rev. Randy Gehres officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home, where a VFW Auxiliary service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Kerry Weeman, Bruce and Rhonda Weeman, and Brian and Mary Weeman, all of Orrville, and Bradley and Shelly Weeman of Dalton, two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Rolland Romanchik, and Beverly and Chris Merkle, all of Orrville; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sue and Don North of Orrville; twenty two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Kenneth Lorentz of Wadsworth and Richard Lorentz of Barberton.

Herman Hileman
POLK -- Herman H. Hileman, 80, of 1290 County Road 251, died Thursday, Dec. 17, at his residence. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville with the Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial will be at Red Haw Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home . Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Haw United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Betty Thomas, Norman (Ann) Hileman and Harold (Tammy) Hileman, all of Polk; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

WOOSTER -- Arilla (Miller) Jones, 84, of 311 E. South St., Apt. 104, died Friday, Dec. 18, at Wooster Community Hospital. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Bonnie Sours of Jeromesville; Lena Dillinger of Tacoma, Wash.; Geneva Ward of Fort Gay, W.Va.; Norma Schoolcraft, Donna Mears, Charles, Albert Lee, and Grover Miller, all of Wooster; stepchildren, Delores Shapiro of Marietta, Calif., Raymond Jones of Wooster, Randy, Dennis, Donna and Debbie Jones, all of Millersburg; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Morris of Wooster and Evelyn Taylor of Polk.
