STANWOOD -- Madaline V. Houmard, 83, of Stanwood, was pronounced dead on arrival Sunday morning, Aug. 16, at Doctors Hospital in Massillon, after a long illness. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, with the Rev. Jon L. Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. Surviving are children, Vera Indorf and Larry Houmard, both of Stanwood; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

RED HAW -- Roy S. "Sam" Ward, 79, formerly of 1043 Township Road 133, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15, at West View Manor Nursing Home, where he had resided since July 1994. CANAL FULTON -- Gertrude P. (Heller) Fetter, 94, of Canal Fulton, died Monday, Aug. 17, at Rose Lane Health Center. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home in Canal Fulton, with pastor Terry Mohr officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery. She was born in Canal Fulton to Leonard and Sarah (Greisinger) Pfaffle and was a nurses' aide at Massillon City Hospital and had worked for Ohio Bell in Akron and Cleveland. Surviving are grandchildren, Nancy Stoll and Scott Heller, great-granddaughters, Amy and Lindsay Stoll, and a daughter-in-law, Mary Heller, all of Canal Fulton; three stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

STUARTS DRAFT, Va. -- Stanley Theodore Hershberger, 42, of Route 4, died Sunday evening, Aug. 16, at his residence. He was the adopted son of David W. Hershberger and the brother of Nathan Hershberger, both of Fredericksburg. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Christian Fellowship Church, with Bennie Byler and Tim Yoder officiating. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Free Funeral Home in Coshocton, with the Revs. Peter Shults and Carolyn Mann officiating. Burial will be at Plainfield Cemetery. John Johnston Jr.
WOOSTER -- John C. Johnston Jr., a founding member of the law partnership of Critchfield, Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston in Wooster, Ohio, died Sunday, August 16, 1998 at the age of 82, after an extended illness. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marie (Wolf) Johnston, whom he married Sept. 6, 1947; sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Gennie S. of Wooster and Gordon W. and Catherine T. of Columbus; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth "Beth", Douglas, Amy and Ty; a sister, Marilynn (Mrs. C.P.) Gruber of Binghamton, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at McGaw Chapel on the campus of The College of Wooster at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 1998. The family will receive friends at McGaw Chapel after the service and from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.

DALTON -- Miriam R. Hofacre, 87, of Dalton, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, at Doctors Hospital near Massillon, after a brief illness. WADSWORTH -- Ethel (Farnsworth) McElroy, 98, of Wadsworth, died Monday, Aug. 17, at Magnolia Care & Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy illness. She was the mother of Elva Gordon of Rittman. Surviving in addition to her daughter, are another daughter, Ruby (Ken) Rasor of Wadsworth; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ervin Hodge
WOOSTER -- Ervin A. Hodge passed away at his home on August 13, 1998, in East Union Township on the farm where he was born on October 5, 1925. His parents were Clayton and Marie (Richwine) Hodge. Surviving are his wife, Marion (Dennis) Hodge, whom he married June 19, 1949; children, Cherie Brasee, Daniel and Tamara Hodge, Deborah and James Morris, Jon and Peggy Hodge, Thomas and Bonnie Hodge, Laurie and Richard Harsh, and Joel Hodge; 13 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; brothers and a sister, Robert Hodge of Canal Fulton, Richard Hodge of Shreve, and Sevilla Jewell of Wooster. Calling hours will be at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home on Friday from 6-9 p.m. Services will be held at East Union Lutheran Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at East Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.

Ammon Hostetler Jr.
ORRVILLE -- Ammon J. Hostetler Jr., 65, 1200 N. Crownhill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville. Services will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Bruce Hostetler officiating. Burial will be at East Chippewa Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Surviving are brothers, Norman Hostetler of Marshallville, John, Alvin, Irvin and Homer Hostetler, all of Orrville and Orie Hostetler of Lake Wales, Fla.; and a sister, Isa Gochenaur of Apple Creek.

Tom Stradley Jr.
BRANTLEY, Ala. -- R.T. "Tom" Stradley Jr., 49, P.O. Box 147-A, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, at his residence from an accidental drowning. He was the son-in-law of Maxine Wirt of Wooster. Burial was in Glenwood, Ala. Surviving in addition to his mother-in-law and wife, are a daughter, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Agnes Crawford
WALNUT CREEK -- Agnes Crawford, 88, of Carlisle Court, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. John G. Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are a son, the Rev. John G. Crawford, and a sister, Mary Castle, both of Cleveland.

Frances Olewiler
ASHLAND -- Frances L. Olewiler, 84, formerly of Ashland County Road 2075 (near Perrysville), died Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, at Brethren Care Center, Ashland, after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Ashland, with the Rev. Ivan V. Beatty officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, 1196 Township Road 1506, Ashland 44805. Surviving in addition to her husband are sisters, Naomi Riffle and Marjorie Heldenbrand, both of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.

HOLMESVILLE -- Mattie J. Miller, 79, 7577 Township Road 551, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, at her home after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Malva Yoder officiating. Burial will be at the Yoder Cemetery, Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the residence. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, David (Arie) Miller and Mrs. David (Erma) Troyer, both of Millersburg, John (Frieda) Miller and Allen (Betty Ann) Miller, both of Holmesville and Mrs. Aden (Nora) Kurtz of Dundee; 37 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brothers, Dan J. Weaver of Millersburg, Ben J. Weaver of Fredericksburg and Abe J. Weaver of Sarasota, Fla.; and sisters, Mrs. Harry (Sarah) Yoder of Blacksville, S.C., and Mrs. Malva (Fannie) Shetler of Fredericksburg.

Milo Bridenstine
WEST SALEM -- Milo P. Bridenstine, 77, of West Salem, died Thursday, Aug. 20, at his home. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Red Haw United Methodist Church, Polk, with the Revs. John Dailey and John Fitch officiating. Burial will be at Red Haw Cemetery, Polk. Friends may call tonight (Friday) from 7-9 at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, or a half hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Red Haw United Methodist Church, 1101 County Road 175, Polk 44866. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Paul L. (Betty) Bridenstine of West Salem, Lee (Sue) Bridenstine of Gaines, Mich., and Lakalynn (William E.) Arnold of Orrville; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Earl (Caryol) Bridenstine of Smithville.

MILLERSBURG -- Benny J. Yoder, 18-month-old son of Jonas D. and Anna Mae (Miller) Yoder, 4654 County Road 19, died Thursday, Aug. 20, at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron. Services will be Sunday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Henry Nisley officiating. Burial will be at the Erb Family Cemetery, Clark Township, Holmes County. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Junior J., and sisters, Martha, Edna, Linda and Mary Ann, all of the home; grandparents, David and Mary Ann Yoder of Millersburg and Dan and Anna Miller of New Bedford; and a great-grandfather, Roy D. Miller of Baltic.
