Eva G. Willis
Eva G. Willis, 76, of Glen View, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1926, at Glen White, she was the daughter of the late Everett Snuffer and Magdeline Mutter Snuffer.
Mrs. Willis was a homemaker and a member of the Glen View Independent Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Darrell R., Isaac, Roy, and Tommy Snuffer; and two sisters, Donna Edwards and Ruth Harris.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James A. Willis; a son, James E. Willis and wife, Delores Ann of Winchester, Ky.; a daughter, Rebecca Back and her husband, William of Crab Orchard; and grandchildren, Keith Willis, Jennifer Alimento, Seth Scott and Brooke Back.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Pastor Duane Pease officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Violet D. Wilson
FAYETTEVILLE - Violet Daisy Hubbard Wilson, 82, of Route 2, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Heartland of Charleston, Charleston following a short illness.
Born March 7, 1921, at Spanishburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy Hatcher Hubbard.
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a member of the Kincaid United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Avril Owen Wilson; two brothers, Carlos and Mason Hubbard; and three sisters, Hazel James, Josie Canterbury and Vira Day.
Survivors include a son, Bill Wilson and wife, Melissa of Oak Hill; a halfsister, Ethel Brown of Kincaid; two grandsons, Ryan Wilson of Oak Hill and Brett Wilson of Oak Hill; and a granddaughter, Erin Crumb of Oak Hill.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Arolette Stover officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arley Lewis Burnside
Arley Lewis Burnside, 82, of Rock Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2003, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Born Sept. 3, 1920, at Rock Creek, he was the son of the late Andrew S. and Betty Ellen Lemon Burnside.
Mr. Burnside was a former coal miner, an Army veteran of World War II and a retired agent for Peoples Life Insurance Co. He was a member of Rebecca Chapel United Methodist Church, Rock Creek.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd C. Burnside; three sisters, Martha J. Wilfong, Dessie Peters and Edith Jarrell; and three brothers, John H., Quincy M. and Benjamin H. Burnside.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Evelyn Farley Burnside; two sons, Lonnie and Eddie, both of Rock Creek; a brother, Joseph Reed Burnside of Uniontown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Rebecca Chapel United Methodist Church, Rock Creek, with the Revs. Mike Kessinger, Larry Brown and Larry Kinder officiating. Eulogist will be James L. Farley. The singers will be the Turner Family. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery, Rock Creek.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.
Pallbearers will be Lewis Earl Clay, Jim Wright, Richard Cantley, Scott Shuster, Bill Jarrell and Mike Rizzuto.

Brenda L. Chapman
Brenda L. Chapman, 57, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, after a long battle with lung cancer. She had resided on Summers Street in Beckley for the past 15 years.
Born May 19, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Edward K. Huff of Portland, Ore., the late Elizabeth B. Persinger of Crab Orchard, and was raised by her maternal grandparents, the late John L. and Stella Black Persinger of Crab Orchard.
Her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Anne and James E. Crouch Jr. of Crab Orchard, and her two precious grandchildren, Michael James and Paige Breanne Crouch, who were the light of her life, survive her. She is also survived by six sisters, Peggy Young and husband, Richard, of Talcott, Eva Jacob and husband, Ralph, of Delaware, Ohio, Louise Milam and husband, Kenny, of Mabscott, Donna Cadle and husband, Jack, of Beckley, Janet Pietkoski and husband, John, of Oak Hill and Sandi Ross of Delaware, Ohio; three brothers, James F. Stull and wife, Peggy, of Nicholas County, Dennis Collins and wife, Mary, of Everett, Wash., and David Collins and wife, Cecilia, of Sagamore, Mass.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ms. Chapman was a charter member of United Neighborhood Crime and Improvement Watch, served on the Advisory Board of Beckley Main Street, the Executive Board of the Family Resource Network, and was a member of the Raleigh County Community Council. She also volunteered her time to nonprofit organizations, including United Way of Southern West Virginia, MUSTER Project and America's Promise.
Service will be 8 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Paul Zutaut officiating.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
According to her wishes, her body will then be cremated. Her family will gather at Charlie White Cemetery, Fayette County, at a later date to scatter her remains.

Lala Ratliff Keeney
MCROSS - Lala Ratliff Keeney, 97, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Heartland of Rainelle nursing home after a long illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1906, at Red Star, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Emma Mitchum Ratliff.
Mrs. Keeney was a member of McRoss Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Summers W. Keeney, on Feb. 9, 1973; three sisters, Reba Persinger, Gladys Morris and Irene Martin; three brothers, Hubert, Clarence and Luther Ratliff; a daughter, Kathleen Shawver; a son, Bobby Lee Keeney; a grandson, Sonny Shawver, and a granddaughter, Debbie Keeney.
Survivors include two sons, Billy W. Keeney of Corliss and Tom Keeney of Summersville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Service will be 3 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with the Revs. Gene Bennett and John Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
There will be no evening visitation.
Friends may call one hour before service today at the funeral home.

Ona Faye Likens
SIMON - Ona Faye Likens, 75, entered a new life Monday, April 21, 2003, at home with her family by her side.
Born Jan. 23, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Van Burgess and Bessie Brown Cook.
Mrs. Likens was of the Church of God faith and a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Micheal Chavez, Marcus and Tony Likens; her stepfather, who raised her, Julius Cook; and a brother, John Burgess.
Those left to mourn her loss are her husband of 42 years, Jerry Likens; a son, Joe Chavez of Columbus, Ohio; five daughters, Shirley Hunt and her husband, Roger, of Oceana, Maria Couron and her husband, Mike, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wanda Null of Cleveland, Bertha Kennedy of LaGrange, Ohio, and Myna Borlie and her husband, Paul, of Willoughby, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Rolland Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Casketbearers will be Richard Lusk, David Lusk, Darrell Brown, Paul Borlie, Josh Nelson and Tommy Wilson.
The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Texie Rae Plumley
UNION - Texie Rae Plumley, 89, formerly of Wolf Creek, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hinton, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 4, 1913, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Morris Summerfield and Rosetta Kincaid Lilly.
Mrs. Plumley was a homemaker and a former employee of the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Alderson and also with the Washington, D.C., Department of Corrections in Lorton, Va.
Mrs. Plumley was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, Alderson, past member of the Home Demonstration Club and was the Monroe County Belle in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Plumley; two sons, Glen R. Plumley and Phillip V. Plumley; a grandson whom she raised, Michael Plumley; three brothers, Watson, Joseph and Fredrick Lilly; and five sisters, Venia Bowling, Beulah Anderson, Virginia Ann Lilly, Edna Richmond and Peggy Lou Lilly.
Surviving are a son, James D. Plumley and his wife, Mary, of Union; a daughter, Edythe Berlekamp and her husband, Lowell, of Virginia; a sister, Bessie Martin and her husband, Rudolph, of Beaver; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside rites will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Lebanon Cemetery, Pickaway, with the Rev. Mikel Pugh officiating.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.

Epefania Madrangca Sulay
Epefania Madrangca Sulay, 85, of Beckley Avenue, Beckley, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born July 12, 1917, in Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Inocencio and Adriana Valle Madrangca.
Mrs. Sulay grew up in the Philippines as a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She moved to the U.S. in 1972, settling in San Francisco where she was a member of St. Andrews Parrish in Daly City, Calif. In 2000 she returned to the Philippines and moved to Beckley in 2002. Here she was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Her husband, Teodoro Yting Sulay, preceded her in death on April 27, 1986.
Survivors include two sons, Wilfredo M. Sulay and his wife, Luzvita, and their children, Gifrey John and Fregilu, all of Daly City, and Capt. Antonio M. Sulay and wife, Rosario Sia, and their children, Raymond and his wife, Lisa, Stefan and his wife, Rina, Antonio and Kendrick, all of Cebu, Philippines; a daughter, Catherine S. Malon and her husband, Vicente, and their children, Kathleen Marie and her husband, Michael Butcher, Vincent John and Christopher Theodore, all of Beckley; three great-grandchildren, Stephen, Sarah and Ras; and her siblings, Pedro Madrangca, Hemesie Madrangca and Fsidro Apao, all of Jimenez Misamis Occidental.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, where a vigil prayer service and rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
Funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Daly City. Rite of committal will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Duggan Mortuary, 500 West Lake Ave., Daly City.
