Bonnie Faye Crookshanks
KEIFFER - Bonnie Faye Crookshanks, 72, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea following a long illness.
Born June 15, 1931, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Belle Rudd King.
Mrs. Crookshanks was a homemaker and a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Keiffer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Crookshanks; several brothers and sisters; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include three sons, John "Rod" Crookshanks of Rupert, Ernest "Willie" Crookshanks of Keiffer and Jamie Malcomb of Rupert; two daughters, Charlene Wittebort of Rupert and Karen Crookshanks of Duo; a brother, Jim King of Crawley; a sister, Frances Carte of Rainelle; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Gary Eisenman officiating. Burial will follow in Burns Cemetery, Keiffer.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Agnes L. Jones Dolsey
Agnes L. Jones Dolsey, 85, of Beckley, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 25, 2003.
Born Dec. 7, 1917, in Appomattox, Va., she was the daughter of the late Whitt Jones and Mary West Jones Wilkes.
Mrs. Dolsey was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the No. 2 Choir, No. 2 District Choir, Sunday School, Prayer Service and Bible Study until her health no longer permitted.
She worked for a series of geriatric care facilities in the Beckley area.
She married John Edward Dolsey in Slab Fork, and they were together for 54 years at the time of his death in 1989. From this union three daughters were born.
Her beloved brother, Manuel Jones, preceded Mrs. Dolsey in death in 1968.
She will be eternally missed by her brother, Daniel Jones of Detroit, Mich.; daughters, Alice Page, formerly of Louisville, Ky., E. Bernice Jackson of Beckley and Mary Ann (Homer) Patterson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, James E. Madison of Highland, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a niece; three nephews; and other relatives and a host of friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Carey of New Hope Baptist Church and Dr. David McDowell of Ebenezer Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends may visit two hours before service today at the church.
Members of the church will serve as pallbearers and flower bearers.

Darlene Tucker Hedgecock
STICKNEY - Darlene Tucker Hedgecock, 53, formerly of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the home of her parents, Lee F. and Edith Bradley Tucker of Stickney, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 19, 1950, at Montcoal.
She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer and Martha Reed and Charles Henry and Oma Tucker.
Besides her parents, survivors include her three daughters, Julie Ranee Tolliver of Fairdale, Lisa Michelle Griffy of Naoma and Kelli Denise Tolliver of Brad-ley; two brothers, Terry Lee Tucker and wife, Ruth, of Rock Creek and Marty Kevin Tucker and wife, Tammy, of Beckley; three grandchildren, Joshua Griffy, Tristian Dickerson and Jordan Owens; special care helper, Ruth Tucker; and a host of friends.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with the Revs. David Cook and Jerry Brown officiating. Interment will follow.
Family and friends are to meet at 10:50 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery.

Anna Mae James
Anna Mae James, 69, of Prosperity, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born July 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Bertie Redden.
Mrs. James was a member of Prosperity Church of Christ.
Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Walter R. James; a sister, Betty Stanley; and a brother, Marcus Redden.
Survivors include her three loving daughters, Nellie Rose and husband, William, of Prosperity, Tammy Dunkley and husband, William, of Piney View and Ann Killen and husband, William, of Beckley; a brother, Kenneth Redden and wife, Ada, of Michigan; and eight precious grandchildren, Elizabeth Killen, Aaron Killen, Dustin Dunkley, Hannah Dunkley, Daniel Rose, David Rose, Abigail Rose and Rachael Rose.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Peace Mausoleum No. 2, Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Pastor Roger E. Pauley officiating.
Friends may call one hour before service today at the funeral home.

Anthony Kyle Johnson
Anthony Kyle Johnson, 22, died from injuries received in a car wreck Sunday, July 27, 2003.
Mr. Johnson was the son of Gloria Ann and Rhett Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the grandson of the late Annie Lou Lewis and the Rev. Eddie Lewis of Beckley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, 371 N.W. 136 Ave., Sunrise, Fla.

Leonard Ervin Logan
Leonard Ervin Logan, 57, of 518 Ewart Ave., Beckley, died at 9:10 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, at VA Medical Center, Beckley, following a four-month illness.
Born Feb. 1, 1946, in Pickshin, he was the son of Elizabeth L. (Boyce) Logan of Beckley and the late William J. Logan.
Mr. Logan was a disabled veteran. He attended Mount Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by brothers, John H., Ersal Ray and Beverly A. Logan.
Survivors include companion, Patricia Cosby; children, Nina Logan and Kim Logan, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin Cosby of Beckley and Angela Cosby of Roanoke, Va.; brothers and sisters, William J. Logan Jr. and wife, Donnay, of Cincinnati, Andrew L. Logan of Beckley, Lorean Woods and husband, Hosea, of Cincinnati, Mary Logan and Curtis of Atlanta, Ga., Betty Logan and Jesse of Cincinnati, Eddie L. Venable of Cincinnati and Mitchell L. Logan of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Logan and Joyce Logan, both of Beckley; a host of nieces and nephews and relatives and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 142 Mool Ave., Beckley, with the Rev. Jerry Staples officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Ray Ormandy
CALDWELL - William Ray Ormandy, 53, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in a Princeton hospital.
Born April 22, 1949, in Beckley, he was the son of William "Bill" and Jean Raye Blevins Ormandy of Beckley.
Mr. Ormandy spent his childhood at Maxwell Hill and spent most of his adult life in Daniels and Beckley. He was a 1967 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and spent his early life attending Memorial Baptist Church and his later life attending Trinity Baptist Church. He was an avid sportsman and a member of Cow Boy Action Shooting, the Shady Spring Shooting Society and the Single Action Shooting Society. Most of all Ray loved his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Lydia Ormandy; and maternal grandparents, George and Bessie Blevins.
Survivors include a daughter, Jenny Barker, and fiance, Jeffrey Whisman, of Daniels; two sons, Brandon Ormandy and wife, Debra, of Caldwell and Jason Ormandy and wife, Natasha, of Cool Ridge; four brothers, George David Ormandy and wife, Joyce, of Maryville, Tenn., Bill Mark Ormandy and wife, Nancy, of Raleigh, N.C., James Reed Ormandy and wife, Becky, of Beckley and Daniel Howard Ormandy and wife, Michelle, of Daniels; two sisters, Linda Beaver and husband, Berlin, of Beckley and Peggy Meadows and husband, John, of Salem, Va.; his former wife, Becky Rogers of Beckley; and nine grandchildren, Anthony, Katelyn, Sarah, Joshua, Zachary, and Brooklyn Ormandy, Allison Crain, Derek Barker and Aaron Williams.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Danny Winders and Jim Franklin officiating.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Sons and brothers will serve as pallbearers.

Jennie Katherine Martin Pettyford
Jennie Katherine Martin Pettyford, 99, also known as Too Mama, was born Aug. 16, 1904, in Richmond, Ky. She departed this life Wednesday, July 30, 2003. She was born to the union of Lewis and Susan Reed Martin. She was educated in the public schools of Richmond, Ky.
At an early age she confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church. She was a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Charleston. In the former years, Too Mama's health prevented her from being active in her church. She also resided in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she was very active in civic duties.
Her early years were spent as a domestic for Greyhound where she retired and then decided to work as a child care worker in New York. She had an opportunity to work for (at that time) the heavyweight champion of the world, Floyd Patterson. She worked for his family for over 15 years. She also worked for families in Ohio and West Virginia.
She married J.D. Haynes (deceased) of Berea, Ky. To this union they were blessed with a lovely daughter, Katherine Haynes Dobson (now deceased).
She was also married to Truman Randolph (deceased) of Charleston. Mr. Randolph departed this life in 1950.
In 1960, she married Eugene Pettyford of Portsmouth, Ohio. He died in 1970.
Too Mama was one of 12 children. All are now deceased.
Those who preceded her in death were Lewis Martin, Robert Martin, Harry Martin, Hasbrook Martin, Eldridge Martin, Ellen Pearl Martin, Leila Tennell, Ada Sharp, Nannette Hughley, Sarah Watkins and Estella Chenault.
She leaves to cherish her memory one grandson, Richard Carl Dobson and wife, Lynn; four great-grandchildren, Richard Tracey Dobson of Atlanta, Ga., Tamela Dobson of Cleveland, Ohio, Ceddrick Cumming of Cleveland and Theopolis Cummings of Valdosta, Ga.; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Tynell, Tynazia, Micheal, Kri-shauna, Breon, Jekya and Britt-nie.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Durgan Funeral Home Chapel, 1501 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop Fred Simms and the Rev. Aaron Hairston officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richmond, Ky.
Friends may meet one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home.

Rebecca Lynn Cowley Plantz
SOUTH CHARLESTON - Rebecca Lynn Cowley Plantz, 38, formerly of the Seng Creek area of Whitesville, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the home of her parents, Richard and Sue Tabor Cowley of Seng Creek, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 25, 1965, in Charleston.
Mrs. Plantz was a graduate of Sherman High School. She received her BSN degree from WVU and her BA degree from UC. She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She was on the dean's list of WVU Institute of Technology and member of the Statewide Independent Living Council. She was employed with the Workers' Compensation Division of the State of West Virginia.
Besides her parents, survivors include her husband, Robert M. Plantz; grandmother, Sylvia Wills Tabor of Arnett; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God, Sylvester, with the Revs. Bartholomew Perry and Jack Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Maxine Russell
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Maxine Russell, 72, formerly of Middleport, Ohio, and Meadow Bridge, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the LaVida Llena Assisted Living Home in Albuquerque.
Born May 7, 1931, in Meadow Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Etsie Bryan McGraw and the late Grace Cozart McGraw.
Mrs. Russell was formerly employed as a registered nurse in the office of Dr. J.J. Davis. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Middleport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Kay Russell.
Survivors include her daughter, Kayte Mullen and husband, Sean, of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Kellie Mullen of Oklahoma, Terrie Mullen of Hawaii, Courtney Mullen of New Mexico and Casey Mullen of New Mexico; two sisters, Shirley McGraw of Meadow Bridge and Marie Griffith of Rainelle; and a brother, Ernest McGraw of Meadow Bridge.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville, with the Rev. Allen Johnson officiating.

Dale 'Jeep Freak' Shumate
SAULSVILLE - Dale "Jeep Freak" Shumate, 67, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at his residence.
Born Feb. 28, 1936, at Saulsville, he was the son of the late Virgil A. and Amanda Privett Shumate.
Mr. Shumate attended Maple Meadow Chapel, where he served as deacon. He was retired from Peake Oil and Gas. Mr. Shumate was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was a very loving and caring person to all and will be sadly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Shumate; and a sister, Beulah Dixon.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley Canada Shumate; a son, Stephen Dale Shumate and wife, Christine Cook Shumate, of Saulsville; a daughter, Rita Shumate McAllister and husband, Melvin, of Saulsville; a sister, Jacqueline Wimmer of Sophia; a brother, Dewane Shumate and wife, June, of Glen Fork; two grandchildren, Jared Shumate and wife, Tina Neece Shumate, of Saulsville and Jessica Shumate Belcher and husband, Jessie Belcher III, of Mullens; and a great-grandson, Dustin Jared Shumate of Saulsville.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Revs. Darrell McNeely and Lee Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in Shumate Family Cemetery, Saulsville.

E. June Stewart
GROTON, N.Y. - E. June Stewart, 73, of 200 W. South St., died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.
Born March 3, 1930, in Whitby, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl Phillips Mills.
Moving from Vermont to Groton three years ago to be closer to her daughter, she had made her home at Center Village Court. She had enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by former husbands, Daniel Schweitz in 1964 and James Stewart in 1999.
Survivors include her daughters, Gail and Donald Canterbury of Cortland, N.Y., and Nena and Larry O'Brien of Portsmouth, Va.; stepchildren, Malcolm and Kathy Stewart of London, John and Cindy Stewart of Lebanon, N.H., and Susan Stewart of Vancouver, Canada; eight grandchildren; and her siblings, Orvella Moses of Waterloo, N.Y., and Ernest Mills, Elizabeth Candedo and Anna Cochran, all of West Virginia.
A celebration of her life was 4 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Larry O'Brien officiating at Zirbel Funeral Home, Groton. The family received friends 3 to 4 p.m. prior to service. Interment was 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, N.Y.
In honor of Mrs. Stewart's life, the family graciously accepts donations made to the Center Village Court, 200 W. South St., Groton, NY 13073.

John Hunter Williams
John Hunter Williams, 82, of Route 3, Fayetteville, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the home of his caregivers, John and Barbara Kinley in Oak Hill, following a long illness.
Born March 8, 1921, at Durbin, he was the son of the late John Luther and Frona Flynn Williams.
Mr. Williams was a retired chemical engineer for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. He served in the US Navy as a pilot.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Barlow Williams; a brother, Robert Williams; and a sister, Millie Williams.
Survivors include a son, John Hunter Williams Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Millie W. Petersen of Fayetteville; and grandchildren, Drew and Julie Petersen of Fayetteville.
Graveside rites and committal will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Arbovale Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Burial will follow.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Flynn Foundations, Scholarship Fund, Cullowhee, NC 2723 or Salvation Army, 312 S. Fayette St., Beckley, WV 25801.
