Betty J. Lunger
Betty J. Lunger, 76, of 105 Point Breeze Ave., South Renovo, died March 23, 2002, in Bucktail Medical Center, South Renovo.
Born March 13, 1926 in Noyes Township, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Sadie Troutman.
She married M. Ned Lunger on Aug. 2, 1941. He survives.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Renovo.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.
Kermit L. Miller
Kermit L. Miller, 74, of 4663 Nittany Valley Drive, Lamar, died March 23, 2002, in Centre Community Hospital, State College.
Born Aug. 10, 1927 in Tylersville, he was the son of the late Torrence and Nettie Troutner Miller.
He and his wife, Elaine Grieb Miller, were married Sept. 14, 1956 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mill Hall. She survives.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., March 27, 2002, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mill Hall. Rev. Eric Deibler, his pastor, will officiate. Interment
will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Mill Hall. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.
The family will provide the flowers and requests memorial contributions to either St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Southern Clinton County Sportsmen’s Association, through the funeral home.
Harry Lee Herman
Harry Lee Herman, 85, of 57196 Keltner Road, Elkhart, Ind., died Friday, March 22, 2002, in Elkhart General Hospital.
Born Feb. 9, 1917 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Harry Herman and the former Ruth Gorham.
He was married to Edith V. Ammerman on Aug. 5, 1936 in Jersey Shore.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today in the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Burial was in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart. Memorials may be given to the family.
Robert B. Ilgen
Robert B. Ilgen, 84, of Ridge Crest, Howard, died Friday, March 22, 2002, in Susque-View Home, Lock Haven.
Born July 19, 1917 in Farmer Mills, he was the son of John Ilgen and the former Emma Breon Stoner.
His first wife, Virginia Bechtol, preceded him in death. His second wife, Grace Dolan, survives in Susque-View Home.
Also surviving is a daughter, Connie I. Ambrose of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Private arrangements are being made at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 50 Court St. 306A, Brooklyn, N.Y., 11201.
Josephine B. Kunes Fisher
Josephine B. Kunes Fisher, 84, formerly of 902 W. Third St., Lock Haven, died March 22, 2002, in the Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit.
Born Sept. 7, 1917 in Beech Creek, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Elsie Bitner Kunes.
She was married to James W. Fisher, who preceded her in death June 8, 1997.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at 1 p.m., in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. The Rev. Michael Abernathy will officiate. Burial will be in Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday. Memorials may be sent to the Lock Haven First Church of Christ.
John C. Barner
John C. Barner, 82, of Kinley Road, Williamsport, died Friday, March 22, 2002, in his son Steven’s residence.
Born Feb. 25, 1920 in Loganton, he was the son of the late Grant U. Barner and Sadie C. Fidler.
He was married to Frances G. Lodge, who died March 25, 1970, and Alta I. Confer, who died Sept. 23, 1989.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, Eastville. Pastor Ken Geisewite will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Loganton. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Main and Water streets, Loganton.
Anna Eggler Fritz
Anna Eggler Fritz, 89, of 90 South Vista Drive, Lock Haven, died March 24, 2002, at the ManorCare Health Services in Jersey Shore. She had been in failing health and had been a patient at the Jersey Shore Hospital for a short time before being admitted to ManorCare.
She was born in Driftwood, Sept. 7, 1912, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Mazie Thomas Eggler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Fritz, who died April 3, 1991. They were united in marriage April 24, 1954 in Oval.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at 3 p.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Robert D. Kitchen of the United Lutheran Church, Lock Haven. Interment
will be in the Dunnstown Cemetery, Woodward Township. Friends will be received in the funeral home one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the United Lutheran Church through the funeral home.

Charles (Charlie) Matthews
Charles (Charlie) Matthews passed away on March 18, 2002, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Loganton on Dec. 24, 1935 to Thelma and Mickey Matthews. He was preceded in death by his father, Mickey, and a brother, James.
Charlie married Jenell Stephenson on July 6, 1963. He is survived by his wife and mother, Thelma. Private services will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Loganton on March 26, 2002.

Charles (Charlie) Matthews
Charles (Charlie) Matthews passed away on March 18, 2002 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Loganton on Dec. 24, 1935 to Thelma and Mickey Matthews. He was preceded in death by his father, Mickey.
Charlie married Jenell Stephenson on July 6, 1963. He is survived by his wife and mother, Thelma. Private services will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Loganton on March 26, 2002. Winifred G. Smith
Winifred G. Smith, Winnie to friends and family, 77, passed away at the home of her daughter, Jane Harpster, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 1, 1925 in Platea, she was the daughter of Oscar and Edith Johnson Erickson.
She married Ellis R. Smith in January 1947. He preceded her in death in December 1967.
Funeral services will in the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Barbara S. Ammann officiating. Burial will be in Schenck Cemetery, Howard.
Janice G. (Desmond) Redos
Janice G. (Desmond) Redos, 74, of South Renovo, died at Geisinger Medical Center on Tuesday, March 19, 2002.
She was born in Renovo on Oct. 15, 1927, daughter of the late Joseph B. and Mary Genevieve (Smith) Desmond.
On Nov. 10, 1947 in Hagerstown, Md., she married Michael J. Redos, who survives. In 1991, they renewed their wedding vows with the pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be in the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, at noon Saturday, with Rev. Mahlon Nevel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Hyner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the Bucktail Medical Center in her memory.
Shirley Anne Bauman
Shirley Anne Bauman, 64, of 1803 Elmhurst Ave., Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in ManorCare in Jersey Shore, where she had been a guest since September.
She was born in South Avis, May 29, 1937, a daughter of James Everett and Margaret Bay Ricker.
She married Freddy Bauman on Jan. 16, 1960, and he survives.
Private family services will be conducted in the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” on Friday afternoon, March 22, 2002, with her pastor Rev. Kerry R. Aucker officiating, assisted by Rev. George J. Morten, pastor of Fairplay Gospel Church. Interment
will be private in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.

Marcia K. Verelli, 69, a resident of State College since 1982, formerly of Curwensville, died March 19, 2002, in the Williamsport Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1932 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Neil B. and Estelle (Smith) Kleckner.
On Oct. 21, 1951 in Lock Haven, she was married to Joseph P. Verelli, he survives.

John Herman Smith, 82, of 1308 Almond St., Williamsport, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Manor Care Health Services North. He was a former resident of Laurelton and Lock Haven.
He was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Lycoming County, the son of John and Alice Fry Smith.
The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30. The Rev. Robert Kitchen will officiate.
Burial will be in Dunnstown Cemetery.
Jane H. Lee
Jane H. Lee, 85, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away on March 8, 2002.
She was born Gretchen Jane Haberstroh in Lock Haven, daughter of John Haberstroh and Gretchen (Sechrist) Haberstroh.
Her first husband, Wilmer David Rosenberger; and her second husband, Clarence Edward Lee, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lee is buried in Scottsdale, Ariz.
James H. Chaplain
James H. Chaplain, 51, of 14 Winner Lane, Lock Haven, died March 19, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health a short time.
Mr. Chaplain was born in Lock Haven, Nov. 2, 1950, and was the son of Mildred Crider Chaplain of Castanea and the late Charles H. Chaplain Sr.
He was united in marriage Jan. 24, 1996 to Gail Reeder Chaplain, who survives at home.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 21, 2002, at 8 p.m., in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Wayne H. Hixon of the Assembly of God Church in Mill Hall. Friends will be received in the funeral home Thursday evening, from 6 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Marian E. Gamble, 78, formerly of Jersey Shore, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at the Williamsport Home.
She was born in Linden, Aug. 30, 1923, the daughter of Jacob Shem and Hazel Moyer Gamble.
Graveside services will be Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the Jersey Shore Cemetery, at 11:30 a.m., with her cousin Rev. Wayne Stebbins officiating. Her family will provide the flowers. Rearick-Carpenter “A Life Celebration Home” of Jersey Shore is handling the arrangements.
Margaret Regina Nonemaker
Margaret Regina Nonemaker, 82, formerly a guest at ManorCare in Jersey Shore, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at the Williamsport Hospital.
She was born in McElhattan, Nov. 20, 1919, a daughter of Robert and Buelah Camp McKinney.
She was married to Edward L. Nonemaker Sr., who died in 1992.

Althea L. (Moore) Workman
Althea L. (Moore) Workman, 84, of Lock Haven, died Sunday, March 17, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born Oct. 18, 1917 in Peal, a daughter of the late Thomas Everett and Anna Poorman Moore.
She is survived by Edward Angelo Workman, whom she married on Nov. 5, 1936 in Lock Haven. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last November.
Funeral services will be at Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, with the Rev. Mark Riley and Capt. Leslie Hilty officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Travis James DeHaas, 22, of Gillette, Wyo., formerly of Blanchard, died March 14, 2002, in his home.
He was the son of Doyle A. DeHaas of Blanchard and Wanda D. DeHaas of Howard, both survive.
He married Danielle (Schaff) DeHaas on July 20, 2001 in Gillette, Wyo. She survives at home.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, 837 Main St., Howard. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Baptist Cemetery in Blanchard.

David L. Cole, 29, formerly of 233 Cherry Run Road, Lamar, who resided there from June 2000 to January 2002, died March 8, 2002, at his home in Northridge, Calif.
He was born in Los Angeles, Calif. on June 12, 1972, the son of Larry A. Cole of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and Janice K. Buchan of Lamar, both survive.

Norman J. Miller, 89, formerly of Kephart Plaza, Lock Haven, died Friday, March 15, 2002, in Lock Haven Hospital.
Born Aug. 9, 1912 in Roaring Branch, he was a son of the late Clarence and Rosa Messner Miller.
His first wife, Verna M. Spotts Miller, died in 1975, and his second wife, Mary McLean Miller, died in 1986.
Funeral services were Monday, March 18, 2002, at Hillview Wesleyan Church. The Rev. Kenneth W. Louden officiated. Interment

Elva I. (Wagner) Slopey, 85, of Woolrich, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Williamsport Hospital.
She was born in Beech Creek on Sept. 6, 1916, a daughter of the late Harvey and Anna Knarr Wagner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Slopey, in 1961.

She was born May 30, 1935 in Chester, the daughter of the late Charles and Willowmena Shane Ward.
On March 7, 1959, she married Kenneth A. Neff who survives.

Loretta R. (Remick) Berry, 87, of Lock Haven, died Thursday, March 14, 2002 in Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit.
She was born March 28, 1914 in Lock Haven, a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Bertha Smith Remick.
She was married to Ward J. Berry, who preceded her in death in January 1962.
Private family funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Michael Abernathy will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. There will be no public viewing. The family will provide the flowers. Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Boulevard, Mill Hall is in charge of the services.

Faye N. Brunner, 92, died Thursday evening, March 14, 2002 at ManorCare in Jersey Shore where she had been a guest for a short time. She was formerly of 101 Locust St.
She was born in Jersey Shore on Sept. 10, 1909, a daughter of John and Jennie Packard Nolan. Her husband Frank died Sept. 27, 1995.

Donna D. Pick, 55, of 601 Farwell Ave., Renovo, died March 15, 2002 in her home.
She was born in Renovo on Aug. 4, 1946 and was the devoted mother of three children. She was the daughter of the late Leslie Dowling and Mabel Aikeley. She was a 1964 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She married Larry W. Pick in August of 1964. He survives.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
