Margaret Jane Frederick, 72, of 3016 Amarillo Ave., Simi Valley, Calif., died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in the Simi Valley Hospital.
Born in Lock Haven on May 23,1929, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Josephine Markle.
She married Robert Conrad Frederick on Aug. 11, 1951 in Coatesville. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1979.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 in the Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin, with interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Robert Desmond
Robert Desmond, 62, of Buffalo, N.Y., died suddenly at his home on Oct. 13, 2001. He was a former resident of Renovo.
Born March 22, 1939 in Renovo, he was the son of the late William F. Desmond and Bertha Marsh-Desmond Kost.
His wife, Ruby Desmond of Buffalo, survives.; three sons; two daughters; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His mother, Bertha Kost of Renovo, also survives.

Robert J. Burns
Robert J. Burns, 96, of Pine Creek Township, Jersey Shore, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001 at the Jersey Shore Hospital.
Born Nov. 4, 1904 in Snow Shoe, he was the son of the late James and Anna Harvey Burns. He was a 1929 graduate of the former Avis High School.
On April 21, 1955, he married Wilhelmina M. May at St. Agnes Church in Lock Haven. She preceded him in death on April 20, 1990.
A funeral mass will be at St. Agnes Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, Monday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. Neil R. Dadey, committal in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Moriarity-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with a Vigil of the Deceased at 3 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary by the Lock Haven Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Gladys L. Myers Selden
Gladys L. Myers Selden, 75, formerly of Avis and Lock Haven, passed away at 2 p.m., Oct. 22, 2001, in the North Shore Hospital in Long Island, N.Y.
She was born in Avis to Lattie Crider Myers and Clarence Myers, now deceased.
In June of 1955, she left Lock Haven after her marriage to the late Bill Selden of Long Beach, N.Y. Interment will be in St. James By the Sea Episcopal Church, near her home in Long Island, N.Y., at noon Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001.

Carmel Ripoli Petyk
Carmel Ripoli Petyk, 85, of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Susquehanna Center Nursing Home, Harrisburg.
Born June 6, 1916, in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary P. Boccarato Ripoli.
She was a 1932 graduate of Lock Haven High School.
In 1945 at St. Agnes Church, Lock Haven, she married Paul A. Petyk, who died Dec. 5, 1965.
A Funeral Mass will be at St. Agnes Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, Friday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. Neil R. Dadey. Committal will be at St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a Vigil of the Deceased at 3 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Agnes Church through the funeral home.

Andrew Jon Recene
Andrew Jon Recene, of Hallstead, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Aug. 20, 1982, he was the son of James and Anna Recene, who survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 22, with Rev. Chris Scarinzi and Rev. William Lansberry III officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Great Bend.

John F. Marshall
John F. Marshall, 91, of 342 E. Water St., Lock Haven, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at ManorCare Health Services in Jersey Shore.
He was born Feb. 21, 1910 in Renovo, and was a fourth generation native of Clinton County. His wife, Marian, preceded him in death on April 23, 1979. He then married Virginia Smith on Sept. 7, 1981. She survives.
A memorial service will be in Immaculate Conception Church, 310 W. Water St., Lock Haven, Lock Haven, Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. Daniel R. O’Neill. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends will be received in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lock Haven University Foundation or the Ross Library through the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.

Dr. Gilbert L. Nicklas
Dr. Gilbert L. Nicklas, fondly known as “Nick” or “Doc,” formerly of Crestmont, died around 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. He was 76.
Born in Baltimore, Md. on June 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. John M. Nicklas.
Dr. Nicklas is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen, of Cary, N.C. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Joslin Diabetes Foundation or to the American Heart Association.

Herbert E. Berckmueller
Herbert E. Berckmueller, 92, died Sunday, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.
His wife, Esther J. Triggs-Berckmueller, survives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily, in 1984.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with calling one hour prior in Grace Episcopal Church, 10010 Aurora Place, and calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in D.O. McComb and Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Avenue, Fort Wayne, Ind. Burial will be in Lock Haven.
Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.

Miriam N.M. Wills
Miriam Naomi Mark Wills, 99, died Oct. 21, 2001, at Susque-View Home. She formerly resided at Fulmer’s Personal Care Home in Dunnstown and had lived most of her life at 214 Central Ave., Avis.
She was born Dec. 4, 1901 in Coburn, a daughter of the late William H. and Barbara Vianna Styers Mark.
Mrs. Wills was united in marriage Nov. 1, 1955 to Gustin D. Wills, who died Oct. 25, 1958.
There will be no visitation. Services will be at the convenience of the family at the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Marie Lewis of the Dunnstown United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

Letitia M. Jones
Letitia M. Jones (nee Manila), 81, of 1100 Concord Ave., Drexel Hill, formerly of Glenside, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1920 in Renovo.
The funeral will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Easton Road and Fairhill Avenue, Glenside. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in William R. May Funeral Home, Easton Road and Keswick Avenue, Glenside. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Renovo, at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 525 Plymouth Road, Plymouth Meeting.

Ethel Anderson
Ethel Anderson, 96, formerly of Shintown, died at ManorCare Health Services, Jersey Shore, of cardio-respiratory failure.
She was born April 14, 1905 in Westport and lived in Shintown where her parents settled upon leaving Westport. She graduated from Lock Haven Normal School in 1927 and taught school for a number of years. Mrs. Anderson had also lived in New York, Maryland and Florida.
Her husband, Eugene Anderson, was district manager for Benjamin Moore Paint Company. He died in 1987, after the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at noon in Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo with the Rev. John Godissart officiating. Burial will follow in North Bend Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Kirby Health Center, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.18709.

Isabel E. Pons
Isabel E. Pons, 87, of 1 Pinetree Road, Lock Haven, died Oct. 21, 2001 in Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit.
She was born in Lock Haven on Sept. 19, 1914, a daughter of the late Paul H. and Ada Swisher Welch. She was the widow of Henry Pons, who preceded her in death May 13, 1985.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001 in Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. There will be no visitation. The Rev. Kenneth Page will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Library.

Charles A. Grand, born in Lock Haven, died Oct. 19, 2001.
He was the beloved husband of Mary (nee Pietras) Grand. The family will be present to receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Urban-Amigone Funeral Home, 3645 Genesee St., where funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and from the Chapel of Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 10 a.m.

John F. Marshall, 91, of 342 E. Water St., Lock Haven, a guest of ManorCare Health Services, Jersey Shore, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at ManorCare.

Dr. Gilbert L. Nicklas, 76, formerly of Crestmont, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Raleigh, N.C.

Mrs. Helen L. Hopkins, 96, formerly of R.R. 1 Trout Run, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 in the ManorCare Health Center in Jersey Shore.
Born Nov. 13, 1904 in White Pine, she was the daughter of Joseph B. Wood and the former Alvertta M. English.
She was united in marriage Jan. 11, 1922 to Stuart E. Hopkins. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1961.
Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. in the Steam Valley Bible Church. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Summit Cemetery at White Pine. Rev. Gerald C. Peet, her pastor, will officiate.
The Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of the arrangements.

Victor L. McGaha
Victor L. McGaha, 89, of Renovo, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 in the Bucktail Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1912 in Billings, Okla., he was a son of the late William M. and Orpha E. Morgan McGaha.
He married the former Lucylle M. Medler on Dec. 22, 1941. She survives at home. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last December.
Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, with the Rev. Mahlon Nevel officiating. Burial will follow in the North Bend Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church, Route 120, North Bend, Pa. 17760.

Billy E. Stewart
Billy E. Stewart, 86, of 520 S. Highland St., Lock Haven, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001 at his home.
Born in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Russell W. and Frances Pricklemeyer Stewart.
He was married to Marjorie Passell Stewart. She died June 11, 1993.
Burial and services will be at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Ceder Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lock Haven E.M.S.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, 11 a.m., at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, with the Rev. Mahlon Nevel officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

Angelo A. Caruso
Angelo A. Caruso, 83, of 1198 Hillview St., Lock Haven, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Elk Regional Medical Center, St. Marys, due to an automobile accident.
Born April 18, 1918 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Carmen and Ralpheala Capello Caruso.
He was married to Anna Catherine Carlson in November of 1950 in Brookville. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2000.

His wife, Dorothy Henson Seeley Wrisley of Elmira Heights, N.Y., survives. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m., in the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Ronald Troup, pastor of the Monroeton United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Betty J. Weaver, 73, of 405 Cherry St., Montoursville, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital.
Born May 13, 1928 in Newberry, she was the daughter of Joseph T. and Katherine Brocious Arrowsmith.
She was the widow of E. Randolph Weaver, who died Jan. 29, 1996. There will be a memorial service Friday at 2 p.m., at the Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm St., Montoursville, with her pastor, G. Oliver Wagner, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends will be received in the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.
Arrangements are being handled by the Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.

Bruce L. Hull, 506 W. Fairview St., Avis, died Oct. 15, 2001, in the Williamsport Hospital.
Born Aug. 3, 1928 in Flemington, he was the son of the late Oran L. and Mary L. Bachman Hull.
He was married to Jacqueline A. Greninger Hull on Aug. 7, 1948. She survives.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the Avis United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mark Woodring will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from noon until the time of services Friday in the church.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Avis United Methodist Church, Citizens Hose Company No. 5, or the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are under the directions of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington.

Beverly G. Foley, 57, formerly of Renovo, died at Lock Haven Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001.
She was born in Lock Haven on Sept. 24, 1944, a daughter of the late John A. and Sara (Saltsman) Getz.
Her husband, Richard J. Foley, whom she married on Aug. 22, 1972, survives. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Thursday with Fr. Donald Boslett celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Hyner. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
Maxwell Funeral Home of Renovo is in charge of the arrangements.

Eva Z. Weber
Eva Zaner Weber, 86, of Hanover, died 12:05 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover. She was the wife of the late Ray M. Zaner and the late William O. Weber.
Born April 20, 1915 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Rev. John A. and Alta R. (Wertz) Hoover.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in the chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, with Pastor Thomas K. Cartwright and Pastor Jim Hollister officiating.
There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Homewood. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery, Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., with Mrs. Weber’s nephew, Rev. John Hoover, officiating.

W. Glenn Adams
W. Glenn Adams, 91, formerly of 342 Willow Lane, Mill Hall, died Oct. 15, 2001, in ManorCare, Jersey Shore.
Born March 14, 1910 in Greenburr, he was the son of the late James Garfield and Carrie Kahl Adams.
He was married to Beatrice Kress Adams in April of 1938 in Lock Haven. She preceded him in death Jan. 10, 1986.
Funeral services will be Oct. 17, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall. The Rev. James E. VanZandt, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A B.P.O.E. 182 Elks service will be 6:30 p.m. and a Masonic memorial service will be 8:30 p.m., both Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society and the Covenant United Methodist Church, through the funeral home.
