ARTHUR HOWARD BAILEY
Arthur Howard Bailey, 94, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, at his home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Chumuckla, Fla., on May 11, 1905. Mr. Bailey was a Christian who has gone home to be with the Lord. He served the Lord as deacon at the Southside Baptist Church, Eight Avenue Baptist Church, and Cedarlawn Baptist Church, where he was a charter member. He served his community as a general building contractor for over 30 years in the Pensacola area.
His wife of 71 years, Maude Polk Bailey, and a son, Willard E. Bailey, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Mildred Mitchell and Glenda House; daughter-in-law, Ruth Bailey; daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Buddy Wehmeier, Doris and Roy Inge, Drucilla (Dru) and Linwood Belich, all of Pensacola; son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Betty Bailey of Crestview, Fla.; foster son, J.C. Innman of West Monroe, La.; sister, Lena Jones of Pensacola; and 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 1999, with the Reverends Steve Bailey and Henry Willett officiating.
Burial services will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bob Bailey, Rick Bailey, Kevin Belich, Donnie House, Don Inge, and David Wehmeier.

EDNA MARGARET BALKUM (FAIRCLOTH)
Edna Margaret Balkum (Faircloth), 76, of Pensacola, died Saturday, November 13, 1999.
Mrs. Balkum was a native of Santa Rosa County, but resided in Pensacola most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Whitfield ``Buster'' Balkum.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Weddeke and Cindy Oblinger; sons, Thomas Vincent Benton, Rickie Thomas Balkum, and James David Balkum; a sister, Velma Staples; brothers, James Faircloth, Paul Faircloth, Robert Faircloth, and G.E. Faircloth; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Herbert Shepherd officiating.
Burial will be in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.

MRS. JIMMIE FAY BOYKIN
Mrs. Jimmie Fay Boykin of Pensacola, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Boykin was born in Basic City, Miss., on November 8, 1936. She moved to Pensacola, with her family in 1963, where she provided a warm and loving home for many years. In addition to her many duties as a housewife, she also assisted in her husband's hydraulics business by being everything from the bookkeeper to the forklift operator. She was able to accomplish all this and still find the time to bake some of the finest pecan pies ever tasted in the South. Her family loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Mr. Billie Joe Boykin.
Survivors include her son, Eric Boykin; daughter, Julie Goforth and her husband Earl Goforth; daughter, Denece Lockwood and her husband Gary Lockwood; grandsons, Scott and Adam Lockwood; and many friends and family in Mississippi.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 1999, in Eastern Gate Funeral Home with the burial immediately following at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Boykin, Earl Goforth, Gary Lockwood, Scott Lockwood, and Adam Lockwood.

CAPTAIN ROBERT EDWARD ELLIOTT, JR.
Captain Robert Edward Elliott, Jr., Chaplain, US Navy, Retired, age 88, passed away Tuesday morning, November 9, 1999, at an Augusta, Ga. hospital.
Mr. Elliott was the youngest of 12 children, born to Robert Edward Elliott, founder of Elliott Sons Funeral Homes, and Corinthia Shipp Elliott, of Augusta, Ga. A 1929 graduate of the Richmond Academy, he continued his educational pursuits graduating from the Citadel in 1933 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. He was the Regiment Adjutant with the rank of Cadet Captain. At commencement he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves. He continued studying an additional six years at the University of Georgia and Emory University, where he earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Divinity.
He was ordained a Minister in the Methodist Church and was assigned by the Presiding Bishop of the North Georgia Conference to a local church.
When WWII broke out, he was transferred to the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps. He served 30 years as a Chaplain on Active duty, allover the world: on board ships, shore duty, individual billets and the staffs of three Three Star Admirals.
He joined the Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade and served during WWII aboard an Assault Landing Ship in the Pacific Ocean. During the Korean and Vietnam Conflict, he served both on board ship and ground duty. During his 35 years in the U.S. Navy he earned 14 Battle Ribbons, two Bronze Stars, and may Letters of Commendation from various commands.
He retired on September 30, 1973, in Pensacola, with the rank of Naval Captain serving on the staff for the Chief of Naval Education and Training and returned to Augusta, Ga. in 1980. After moving back home to Augusta, Mr. Elliott became a Community Leader through his various memberships. He was a member of the Retired Officer's Association, Ft. Gordon, Ga., the Augusta Chapter of Military Order of World Ward, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Augusta West Rotary Club, where he most recently was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, he attended Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, and was a member of the North Georgia Conference of Ordained Methodist Ministers.
He is survived by his spouse of 22 years, Linda J. Elliott of Martinez, Ga.; his former spouse, Samille Saye Elliott of Madisonville, Ky.; five children and their spouses, Katherine A. Elliott, Special Education Teacher, of Anchorage, Alaska, Robert E. Elliott, III, Civil Engineer, of Camas, Wash., Col. Barrett S. Elliott, U.S. Air Force, of Ramstein A.B., Germany, Dr. Allen S. Elliott, M.D., of Madisonville, Ky., and J. Mark Elliott, Nuclear Engineer, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; three step-children and their spouses, M. Allison Ferreira of Pensacola, Lori F. Touma of Dallas, Texas, and H. Mark Ferreira of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Miss Elinor C. Elliott of Evans, Ga. and Mrs. Joseph W. Evans of Martinez, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, David B. Smith, Jr., Corinthia A. Manueal, Mark A. Elliott, Eric A. Elliott, Allen L. Elliott, Letha S. Elliott, Katherine E. Elliott, Robert E. Elliott, IV, Barrett M. Elliott, Sarah W. Elliott, and Paul R. Elliott; and five great- grandchildren, Misty R. Smith, Barrett D. Smith, Sabrina A. Manuel, Sam M. Manuel, and Valentia E. Pollard.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 12, 1999, at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, with Dr. David Jones and Colonel Leo Peacock, Chaplain, U.S. Army, Retired, officiating.
Interment
will follow in Westover Memorial Park with Full Military Honors.

CHARLES F. GUND
Charles Frederick Gund, 86, of Pensacola, died peacefully Sunday, November 14, 1999, at a local hospital.
Mr. Gund was born February 28, 1913, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the eldest son of Martin G. and Elise B. Gund. He was a proud graduate of Tulane University. In 1942, he married Marie Giuffria. Mr. Gund and his wife moved from New Orleans to Pensacola in 1943. In 1944 Mr. Gund, with Harold Cleaveland and Thomas Saltmarsh, founded the accounting firm of Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund, where he actively served clients until early 1999. In long years of community activity, Mr. Gund was a charter member and fellow of the University of West Florida Foundation, President of the Board of Directors of Lakeview Center, President of the Pensacola Exchange Club, and President of the Council of his church, Immanuel Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie; sons, Fred of Pensacola, Ted and his wife Judy of Pensacola, Ed and his wife Sharon of Washington, D.C., Charles, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Pensacola; daughter, Nancy of Washington, D.C.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Stephen Kamprath officiating.
Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

WILLIAM LEE HEARN
William Lee Hearn, 78, of Pensacola, died Monday, November 15, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Hearn had worked as a plumber and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in World War II.
He is survived by a son, Lee Hearn Poole.

Robin W. Hill, 51, of Pensacola, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, at a local hospital.
Robin was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was a 3rd degree mason and member of Pensacola Lodge 42.

Mrs. Fannie Dell Merritt, age 89, of Pensacola, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Merritt was a native and lifelong resident of Pensacola.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Daniel and Ida Henderson; husband, Howard E. Merritt; and grandson, Mike McNair.
Mrs. Merritt is survived by three daughters, Annie L. Burris of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Nell (Benny) McNair and Myrtle Leach, both of Pensacola; one son, John W. (Susan) Merritt of Sevierville, Tenn.; one granddaughter; two grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, D.W. (Grace) Henderson of Fayetville, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Betty Lou Wood, 70, of Pensacola, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Wood was a native of Etowah, Tenn., and a member of Circle Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Janet Wood of Pensacola; a daughter, Cindy Plumley; two grandchildren, Scott and Jeremy Plumley; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Lois Jones of Chicago, Ill. and John Michael and Sue Jones of Cleveland, Tenn.; a half-sister and her husband, Ethleen and Wint Key of Tenn.; and special friends, Hubert and Willie Mosley.

Ileta White Smith, 65, of Milton, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith and attended the Pinehaven Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl White, and a sister, Phyllis White Roberts.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, William Smith of Milton; three brothers, Collis (Gladys) White of Pensacola, Clinton White of Pea Ridge, and Jerry L. (Nina) White of Ft. Annie Doris McGlothren Auclair, 62, of Cantonment, died Sunday, November 14, 1999 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard L. Auclair. Mrs. Auclair was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Margree Woods; her mother and step-father, Ernest and Neoma Lucille Walker; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

ESSIE E. "BILLIE" HIGDON BALDWIN
Essie E. "Billie" Higdon Baldwin, 79, of Pensacola entered her heavenly home to dwell with the Lord forever on Monday, November 15, 1999, at The Specialty Care Center of Pensacola, where she had been an Alzheimer's patient for the past five years.
A lifelong resident of Escambia County, Billie was born September 22, 1920, in Enon (Bay Springs), the daughter of Jake B. and Mable Lewis Higdon. Billie was a long-time member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church and had been active in the United Methodist Women's Group.
Billie is survived by her deeply devoted husband, Charles J. Baldwin; a son and daughter-in-law, Joel G. "Bill" and Beth Lucas; one grandson and his wife, J. Mark and Stephanie Lucas; two great-grandsons, Jake and Josh Lucas, all of Pensacola. She also leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and J.P. Brantley of Molino; a sister-in-law, June Higdon of Pensacola; a nephew, Ellis Baldwin III and his wife, Sue and their family of New Orleans; a cousin, Marie Bowman Bush and family of Milton.
The family extends their appreciation to the nurses, staff, and all the personnel of The Specialty Center Care of Pensacola and to Hospice of Northwest Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert C. McKibben, officiating.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Willie D. Mr. Carey Louis Galle', Jr., a native of Biloxi, Miss., and a resident of Mobile, Ala., died Sunday November 14, 1999, in a Mobile, Ala. hospital.
Mr. Galle' was a certified public accountant and shareholder in the firm of Wilkins Miller, P.C.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Stringfield Galle'; four children, Natalie D. Galle' and Carey L. Galle' III, both of Fullerton, Calif., James O. Galle' and Anne Louise Galle', both of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Marilyn Galle' Wren of Kerrville, Texas; grandmother, Annie Louise Galle'.

Rosemary S. Johnson, of Pensacola departed this earthen vessel and went to be with the Lord on November 11, 1999.

Johnson, Jr. of New York; father, Tellis Samuel of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Wanda (Gwen) Samuel, Cynthia (Alfie) Gray and Tonika Hughley, all of Atlanta, GA; brother, Curtis L. Samuel of Pensacola, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

ROSE S. POTTER
Rose S. Potter, 86, of Grand Court Pensacola, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 1999.
Rose was a Navy wife for thirty years and moved to Pensacola in 1973. After her husband's death in 1975, she became a foster parent and was a member of the Foster Parent Association, the Panama Canal Elks Club and the Fleet Reserve. Rose was an accomplished violinist and painter and grew African violets.
Rose is preceded in death by her beloved husband, LCDR George E. Potter, U.S. Navy (Ret.) and grandson, Timothy Edwin Hay.
Rose is survived by four sons, Charles Edwin Potter, Richard Jackson Potter, George Arthur Potter and James William Potter; two daughters, Carolyn Rose Hay and Gloria Mae Boyles; brother, Earl Schweizer; sister, Georgia Roddam; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:15 a.m., Thursday, November 18, 1999 at Barrancas National Cemetery with Rev. William Bottoms, officiating.
