Lawrence Batista Gottardi, age 91, formerly of Indiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 9, 2003, in Rockville, MD.
Son of Leslie Batista and Esther Lind Gottardi, he was born August 29, 1912, in Yatesboro.
Mr. Gottardi grew up in Yatesboro and lived most of his life in Indiana after moving here in 1949. He was a faithful member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Gottardi was a retired employee of the Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Company, whom he had served for 50 years. He was a baseball enthusiast, world traveler, and an accomplished post-retirement golfer. Mr. Gottardi loved 'big band' music and was, himself, a musician and the leader of a local dance band in the early 1930's. Family and friends will remember Mr. Gottardi as a man of great faith, integrity, honesty, and fidelity. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. His life was richly blessed by God and well-lived for himself and his family.
Survived by one daughter, Dr. Constance J. M. Gottardi, Coraopolis; three sons: Robert L. Gottardi and wife, Marge, Pittsburgh; Dr. Leslie P. Gottardi and wife, Debbie, North Myrtle Beach, SC; Major General Larry D. Gottardi and wife, Jane, Fort McPherson, GA; eight grandchildren: Dr. Larry R Sadler and wife, Dr. Mary Lynn, Winter Park, FL Lance R Sadler and wife, Melissa, Spokane, WA; Virginia Gottardi Lutz, Freeport; Betta Gottardi, Pittsburgh; David, Matthew, Andrew and Sarah Gottardi, Georgia; five great grandchildren: Madison and Mackenzie Sadler, Florida; Grace and Maxwell Sadler, Washington, and Heather Lutz, Freeport; a sister-in-law, Bertha Matty Bell, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Kathryn Matty Gottardi in 2002; one brother, Peter A. Gottardi.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 12 at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. where a parish wake service will be held at 3 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at St. Bernard Church. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Harry H. Treese, age 82, of Indiana, died February 7, 2004, at his home.
Son of Ford Wesley and Annie Spiker Treese, he was born December 25, 1921, in Decker's Point.
Mr. Treese lived most of his life in Indiana County where he was a coal miner for Scott's Coal Mining. He was a former member of Blairsville V.F.W., Sagamore V.F. W. #6555, and the Blairsville Eagles #1488. Mr. Treese was a life member of the NuMine Sportsman Club and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survived by four children: Donald Treese and wife, Donna, Blacklick; Richard Treese and fianc', Gloria Patterson, Indiana; Kenneth Treese, Blacklick; Donna Jean Treese and fianc' Tim Bish, Indiana; one sister, Corabelle Smith and husband, Raymond, Sprankles Mills; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Belle Treese in 1998; nine children: Bernard, Robert Lee, John Mark, Gloria Jean, Shirley Ann, Barbra Kay, Kerry Lynn, Cathy Marie, and Linda Kay Treese; two brothers: Blaine and Murray Treese; and sister, Edna Ashbaugh.
Friends will be received Thursday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the time of service, at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. with The Rev. Reid S. Blystone officiating. Interment will be in Montgomery Cemetery.
Military rites will be accorded by the Indiana V.F.W. Post #1989.

Lydia Cathryn Mikesell Rodgers, age 92, of Zelienople, Allegheny County, died Sunday, February 08, 2004, at the LAS St. John Lutheran Affiliate in Mars, PA.
Daughter of William P. and Olive Shirley Mikesell, she was born January 6, 1912, in Colver, Cambria County.
Mrs. Rodgers lived her entire life in Western Pennsylvania. She worked for the A.C. Company in the Pittsburgh Airport Hotel. She was a former member of the Dilltown Baptist and St. Paul's Methodist Churches, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Senior Citizens Sunday School and Choir. Mrs. Rodgers was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survived by three children: George E. Rodgers, III and wife, Marie, Franklin Park; Nancy R. Milliron and husband, William, Acme; William P. Rodgers and wife, Carol, Gibsonia; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George E. Rodgers, Jr. in 1979; one brother, Paul William Mikesell; and one sister, Mary Smith.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Leah Bergstrom officiating. Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

William Moretti, age 84, of Indiana, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Son of Nazzareno and Limbania Campana Moretti, he was born September 7, 1919 in White Twp., Indiana County.
Mr. Moretti lived his entire life in Indiana County where he was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church. He worked as a coal miner for R&P Coal Company for 46 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of U.M.W.A. local #1412, and enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting and music, especially dancing polkas. He also enjoyed playing his accordion and singing Italian Songs.
Survived by his wife of sixty years, Rose Barletta Moretti; two daughters: Regina R. Mahoney and husband, Stephen, Gainsville, VA; Patricia L. Point and husband, Patrick, Las Vegas, NV; two brothers: Lawrence Moretti, Indiana; Robert Moretti and wife Mary of Creekside; two sisters: Louise Pacconi and husband Joseph of Indiana and Leona Frech of Creekside ; two grandsons: Jeffrey D. Zapach of Danville and Martin E. Badman of Las Vegas, NV; one great granddaughter, Brittany Nichole Zapach of Danville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Vincent and Raymond Moretti, two sisters: Amenia Cerovich, and Evelyn Starry; one granddaughter: Tracy Lynn Zapach; three nephews: Raymond and Ronald Moretti, and Thomas Frech.
Friends will be received Tuesday, April 20, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at St. Bernard Church. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Richard H. 'Dick' Ruffner, age 71, of Clymer, died Saturday May29, 2004 in Rayne Twp. Indiana, Co.
Son of George and Gertrude Donahue Ruffner, he was born May 29, 1933 in Tanoma.
Mr. Ruffner lived all his life in the Rayne, Twp. area where he belonged to the Tanoma United Methodist Church. He worked for All-Star Dairy as a deliveryman and later for Fisher Scientific as a drill press operator. Mr. Ruffner, along with his brother Don were the caretakers of Ruffner Cemetery.
Survived by his wife Doris I. Houck Ruffner, one son Allen E Ruffner and wife Johna of Tanoma: Three step children; Robert V Houck and wife Karen of Home; Betsy A. Hazlett and husband Richard of North Ohlmstead, OH; Lisa M. Renninger and husband John T. of Penn Run. Also survived by his brother Don Ruffner and his wife Donna of Tanoma; one sister Nancy Kahabka and her husband Raymond of Cheektowaga, NY. Two grandchildren, Heather and Nathan Ruffner. step grandaughter Kate Celia; Eight step grandchildren, Vernon Houck; Jason Houck; Kurtis Arnold; Kristina Arnold; Michael Arnold; Jeffery Arnold; Amanda Renninger; Seth Renninger; and nine great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Ruth Ella Fleming and Betty Alice Muckle.

Norman J. Warden, age 72, of Homer City, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Son of James E. and Helen B. Stivison Warden, he was born May 12, 1932, in Lucernemines.
Mr. Warden lived in Michigan and worked for Ford Motor Company prior to moving back to Homer City. He was a member of the American Legion Post #493 of Homer City and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Warden served in the U. S. Army.
Survived by three sons: Dennis, Duyane and Kevin Warden; one sister, Norma J. Overdorf and husband, Glen, Brush Valley; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; one son, Keith Warden; and one brother, Eugene Warden.
Friends will be received Tuesday, June 1 from 7-9 p.m. at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2 with the Rev. John A. Logan, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Marybelle Bash, age 90, of Kent, died Friday May 28, 2003 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Daughter of Henry and Mary Holstein Shirey, she was born April 6, 1914, in Parkwood.
Mrs. Bash lived her entire life in Indiana County. She worked in food service for the Indiana Area School District and was a cook for Reefer's Restaurant. Mrs. Bash enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking, and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survived by four children: Clair F. and David C. Bash, both of Kent; Daniel W. Bash and wife, Elaine, Indiana; Patricia A. Cochran, Kent; one sister, Dorothy Hamilton, Parkwood; two brothers: Robert Shirey, Parkwood; Samuel Shirey, Addison, NY; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jess 'Jack' Bash in 1954; two sisters: Boletta Brewer; Cressie Devlin.

Helen Fae (Lightcap) Bonnett Campbell, age 89, of Englewood, Ohio, formerly of Indiana, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at her home.
Daughter of Wilmer Earl and Anna Caroline Schurr Lightcap, she was born in Indiana.
Mrs. Campbell graduated from Indiana High School in 1933 and from Indiana State Teachers College in 1942. Prior to moving to Ohio Helen worked as a Home Economics Teacher at various schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Helen was an active member of the Concord United Methodist Church in Englewood, the Jonathan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Dayton Christian Women's Club.
Survived by two daughters: Paula Jo Campbell of Scottsdale, AZ; and Elizabeth Ann Campbell of Vandalia, OH; two sisters: Mary Carolyn Buterbaugh, Indiana; Elizabeth Jane Whitesell, Greensburg; one brother-in-law, Robert Boyle Campbell, Tacoma, WA; and many other family members and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James Clair Bonnett during World War II; her second husband of 48 years, Joseph Kier Campbell in 1997; one sister, Annabelle Wolfe; and one brother, Wilmer Earl Lightcap, Jr.
Friends will be received Thursday, June 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the time of service at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. Rev. Dr. Elizabeth B. Rogers will officiate, and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Kathryn Alice Abels Stratton, age 78, of Indiana, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 25, 2004, at her home.
Daughter of Elliot 'Buck' and Faith Bachtel Abels, she was born January 10, 1926, in Parkersburg, WV.
Mrs. Stratton graduated from Berea College, Kentucky in 1947, McCormick Theological Seminary in1950, (the only woman in the class), completed residency PhD requirements in Philosophy of Religion at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, New York City in 1953, and completed the PhD in English Literature in 1982 while teaching at IUP. Mrs. Stratton taught at Freeport High School, Freeport, Long Island, NY, and also at IUP where she was a counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program, co-founder of the Program for Scholars, and an exchange professor in China and Hungary. She retired from IUP in 1994 as Professor Emeritus. Mrs. Stratton served churches in Gary, Indiana; Evanston, Illinois; Hempstead, Long Island, NY; Wilkinsburg, PA; and was ordained by Kiskiminetas Presbytery at Black Lick Presbyterian Church where she served as Pastor. She later served at Plumville Presbyterian Church and preached in most of the churches of Kiskiminetas Presbytery. She loved gardening, teaching, and traveling. She traveled through the fifty states and fifty nations throughout the world.
Survived by her husband, E. Vincent Stratton; two daughters: LTC Bonnie A.S. Elkins and husband, LTC Steven M., Indiana; Holly F. Stratton and husband, David Stone, Evanston, IL; one sister, Lois Ann Abels Pike, Parkersburg, WV; four beloved grandchildren: Steven, Shannon, and Sarah Elkins, and Aaron Stone.
Preceded in death by her parents.
By pre-planning her body was donated through the Humanity Gifts Registry to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Hannah Rachel Jasper Williams, age 91, a resident of Rose Haven, formerly of Aultman died Monday, August 30, 2004, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Daughter of Arin W. and Lucy Louis Jasper, she was born October 2, 1912, in Coalport, Clearfield County.
Mrs. Williams was a kind and gentle lady who lived most of her life in Indiana County.
Survived by one son, Paul D. Williams and his wife, Gloria Homer City.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Acey Williams in 1977; one son, Harry E. Williams; two brothers; and five sisters.
Visitation and services will be private with Pastor Charles A. Harvey, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

The Rev. Charles E. Focht, age 65, of Carlisle, went to be with His Lord and Saviour Sunday morning, August 29, 2004, while at home in the presence of his family. He fought the good fight, he finished the course, he kept the faith. (2 Tim.4:7)
Son of Evore Gittens and Virginia Robinson Focht, he was born January 1, 1939, in Philadelphia.
Charles attended Germantown High School before enlisting with the US Marine Corps. He attended Elohim Bible Institute in New York and Tabernacle Baptist College in South Carolina, before earning a Bachelor's Degree in Religion from Northwestern College in Iowa. He pastured the Tylersport Chapel in Tylersport, PA and the Meridian C&MA Church in Meridian, PA. Rev. Focht participated in wheelchair athletics for over 2 decades, serving on numerous US Teams, including the US Paralympic Team to the 1992 Paralympics held in Barcelona, Spain. He attended Boiling Springs Bible Chapel in Boiling Springs, PA.
Survived by his mother, Warminster, PA; his wife of 44 years, Margaret Flick Focht; 2 sons: Mark, Mt. Gretna; Mike, Titusville, FL; 3 daughters: Diana Focht, Enola; Debbie Reel and husband, John; Shermans Dale; Amy Gross and husband, Brian, Middletown; 6 grandchildren: Phillip, Christie, Samuel, and Anna, Shermans Dale; Matthew and Mitchell, Middletown; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Preceded in death by his father.
There will be no visitation. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. in Boiling Springs Bible Chapel, 4th St. Boiling Springs with Edwad Bailey officiating. A graveside service and burial will take place Thursday, Sept. 2 in Union Cemetery, Shelocta, PA.

Dr. A. Carolyn Newsom, age 95, of Indiana, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at St. Andrew's Village where she resided for the past 12 years.
Daughter of Walter Lee and Elizabeth Bradfield Newsom, she was born March 9, 1909, in Dangerfield, TX.
Dr. Newsom, an educator, graduated from Texas Women's University, Denton, and earned a PhD. from Iowa State University with additional graduate study at Ohio State and Columbia University. She held academic positions at California State University, Santa Barbara, Louisiana State University, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of Graystone Presbyterian Church and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survived by three nieces, Carolyn Scheele, NJ, Kathy Newsom, TX; Patricia Peck, NY; two grand nieces, Dr. Elizabeth Thompson, NY; and Melissa Scheele, NJ.
Preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Graystone Presbyterian Church Chapel with The Rev. Richard E. Hurley officiating.

Martha I. Dixson Kunkle, age 92, of Indiana, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Daughter of Aaron W. and Mary A. Hinton Craven, she was born October 30, 1912, in White Twp., Indiana County.
Mrs. Kunkle lived most of her life in Creekside and was a homemaker. She attended Washington Presbyterian Church and enjoyed bingo and crocheting.
Survived by her husband, Lyle Kunkle; five children: Mary K. Gibson and husband, Donald; Frances 'Sissy' McDowell and husband, Robert, both of Indiana; Stanley E. Dixson and wife, Mary, Falconer, NY; Gerald R. Dixson, and wife, Josie, Homer City; Barbara A. Mlakar and husband, William, Lucernemines; two stepchildren: Joann V. Jeffries, Creekside; Howard L. Kunkle, Shelocta RD #1; one sister, Catherine Peterman, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and twelve step great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Stanley G. Dixson in 1943; one stepdaughter, Linda K. Kunkle; two brothers: George and Lynn Craven; three sisters: infant, Elva; Mildred Lydick, and Ethel Craven.

Emma V. Sandy, age 83, of Lucernemines, died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Daughter of James and Diletta Fafone Sandy, she was born May 4, 1921, in Lucernemines.
Miss Sandy lived her entire life in Lucernemines and was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. She was a member of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lucernemines and the Pioneers of America.
Survived by one brother, Daniel Sandy and wife, Sophie, Bethesda, MD; two sisters: Elizabeth Sandy and Evan Smithula, both of Lucernemines; nieces: Diletta Poprich and Heather Smithula; great great nieces: Rayann Smithula and Layken Bekina; and other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Randy and Albert Sandy; four sisters: Greda and Dorothy Sandy, Mary Louise Poprich, and infant, Geneva Sandy.

Elizabeth Sandy, age 95, of Lucernemines, died Saturday April 2, 2005, at her residence.
Daughter of James and Diletta Fafone Sandy, she was born March 18, 1910, in Lucernemines.
Miss Sandy lived her entire life in Lucernemines where she was a member of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church. Miss Sandy was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and taking care of all her family.
Survived by one brother, Daniel Sandy and his wife Sophie, Bethesda, MD; one sister Eva Smithula, of Lucernemines; nieces: Diletta Poprich and Heather Smithula; nephew, Stephen Smithula; great nephews: Stephen Smithula and Patrick Davis; great great nieces: Rayann Smithula and Layken Bekina; and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Randy and Albert Sandy; five sisters: Greda, Dorothy and Emma Sandy, Mary Louise Poprich and infant Geneva Sandy.

Charles Minnick, age 88, of Indiana, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at St. Andrew's Village.
Son of Albert S. and Louise F. Hamer Minnick, he was born February 12, 1917, in Port Vue, PA.
Mr. Minnick was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Charles retired from Firth-Sterling Steel Co. of McKeesport, was a veteran of World Was II, and a member of V.F.W. Post 1989 in Indiana.
Survived by his wife, Margaret Gregory Minnick; two sons: Bernard and wife, Penny of Casselberry Fl.; Charles G. and wife, Cynthia of Erie; three grandchildren: Gregory C. and wife, Sarah of Harrisburg, Brandon M. and friend, Bobbie of Erie; Theresa and husband, Dan of West Mifflin; and four great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard.
Friends will be received Wednesday, April 6 from 1-3 p.m. at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Jefferson memorial Park.

Ivys L. Fornear, age 89, of Indiana, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Communities at Indian Haven.
Daughter of Rev. Dr. Thomas K. and Keturah R. Stringer Fornear, she was born June 15, 1915, in Pittsburgh.
Miss Fornear lived her early life in Windber. She graduated from Windber High School then from the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She did private duty nursing for her hospital for many years followed by working as a registered nurse for the Veterans Administration at Martinsburg, WV, Oakland in Pittsburgh, and the Veterans Hospital in Butler. Miss Fornear was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and its Mary Circle, the Indiana Symphony Society, Indiana Arts Council, and lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Nurses Association District #6. She loved to travel, and her trips took her to Europe, England, the Middle East, and Alaska. Miss Fornear also enjoyed attending concerts, plays, and sports events at IUP.
Survived by her sister, Olive M. Fornear of Indiana; nieces: Judith Fabian and husband, Tom; Shelly and Ellen Fornear, all of Youngstown, OH; Mary Fogel of Austin, TX.; nephews: Thomas Fornear and wife, Kerry of Philadelphia; Dr. E. James Fogel and wife, Judy of Ithaca, NY.
Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank Fornear; a sister, Jean L. Fogel; and brother-in-law, Dr. Ernest Fogel.
The family will receive friends in the parlors of Grace United Methodist Church Sunday, April 24th from 1 p.m. to the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. Rev. Dr. Brad Lauster and Rev. Linda B. Chambers will officiate, and interment will be private in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
Memorial contribution can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Seventh and Church Streets, Indiana PA 15701 or to VNA/Hospice, 850 Hospital Drive, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
