Douglas E. Hale Sr.
God chose to take our beloved husband, father and friend, Douglas E. Hale Sr., age 55, of Shalimar, Fla., on Nov. 26, 1997.
Doug was born on March 1, 1942, and was from Pikeville, Tenn., but had lived in Shalimar for the past 26 years. He was an avid Gator fan; Elks Lodge member; and coached the Shalimar Little League Team. Doug also served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Delores Faye Hale of Shalimar; son and daughter-in-law, Doug E. Jr. and Machele Hale of Niceville, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, VondaKay and Darren Bensley of Texas; sisters, Faye Cunningham, Joyce Lewis and Margie Bedwell, all of Tennessee; mother-in-law, Rhoda Gibson; and granddaughter, Meagan Hale.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Little Chapel Funeral Home. Interment
will follow in Heritage Gardens, Niceville.
Flowers will be accepted, or those who wish may make a donation to the Fort Walton Beach Boys and Girls Club or the Elks Children's Hospital in care of the Elks Lodge.

David Jerome Andersen
David J. Andersen, lieutenant colonel, U.S. Air Force retired, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, with his family at his bedside. He was 75 years old and had resided at 16 Longwood Drive in Shalimar, Fla., for 16 years.
David grew up in Humboldt, Iowa, and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. On July 1, 1942, he joined the Army Air Force, beginning a 27-year military career.
A pioneer of both helicopter and amphibian flight, David was one of the few survivors of early, experimental helicopter testing. Along with Charles Lindbergh, Frank Piasaki and Igor Sikosky, he was a charter member of the Twirly Birds, a fraternal association of rotary-wing pilots.
His further historical participation included service as Project Officer for the first Project Jaguar sampling missile and A bomb and early H bomb tests. David flew air-sea rescue missions during the 1950s. Of all his military accomplishments, he placed most importance on his 28 credited rescues of fellow downed or stranded airmen. He was a Vietnam veteran.
After his retirement from the Air Force, Col. Andersen and his family returned to Shalimar, where he served as Florida's State Coordinator for the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia.
He was a member of the Fort Walton Beach Board of Realtors for 20 years.
David was married to his wife and cherished companion, Delphine Alaire Green, for 47 years. Others who will miss him dearly are his sister, Lillian Glasscock, of Fort Myers, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law Ann and David Andersen, of Fairfax, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law Libby and Howard Hill, of Niceville, Fla., Nanci and Christopher Osborne, of Springfield, Va., and Barbara and Jimmy O'Quinn, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at McLaughlin Mortuary at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, with the Rev. Tilman Singleton officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary one hour prior to the service.

Herbert E. Schussler
Herbert "Mickey" E. Schussler, retired Air Force Lt. Col., age 76, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in a local hospital on Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997. He was born on Nov. 9, 1921, in New Orleans. He had been a resident of the local area for the past 30 years, after serving a distinguished Air Force career. He was originally from New Orleans. He was Catholic by faith. "Mickey" was an active member of both the F.S.U. Booster Club and the YMCA. He was a decorated World War II veteran bombardier participating in 35 European missions. He served in both SAC and TAC, receiving numerous letters for his accomplishments. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and acquaintances.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elinor, of 50 years; son, Russell Paul, and daughter-in-law, Laurie Schussler, of Andalusia, Ala.; daughters, Peggy Wade, of Shiloh, Ga., Jane Marie Baker, and son-in-law, Tom Baker, of Lubbock, Texas, Sue Natole, and son-in-law, Rich Natole, of Orlando, Fla.; sister Barbara Montague, of Fort Walton Beach; six grandchildren, Rhett Wade, Lee Wade, Tom Baker, Rory Schussler, Tessa Schussler and Luke Schussler.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at McLaughlin Mortuary. Harvey H. Langley Jr.
Harvey H. Langley Jr., age 73, of 1455 Vinson Ray Rd., Baker, Fla., passed away Sunday morning Nov. 30, 1997, at his home. He was a native of Mobile, Ala., but has resided in Okaloosa County since 1946. Mr. Langley was retired from the civil service as a firefighter, served in the U.S. Navy, and a veteran of World War II and the Pacific. He was a member of the Golden Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Langley is survived by his wife, Jeanne Langley, of Baker, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Marge Langley, of Lafayette, La., Hal and Yvonne Langley, of Baker, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Rob McDaniels, and Brenda Langley, all of Gainesville, Fla.; sister Cherry Wilkens, of Milligan, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Wilson and Rev. James Paul officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pyron Chapel Cemetery with Whitehurst Funeral Home directing.
Visitation for Mr. Langley was held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Sherman Hoover McLamb
MSgt. Sherman H. McLamb, age 68, of Niceville, Fla., passed away in a Niceville hospital on Nov. 29, 1997, after an extended illness.
He was born in Benson, N.C., on Dec. 28, 1928, to Charlie and Lessie McLamb and moved to the area 30 years ago. He retired from the U.S. Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., in 1971 with over 20 years service. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Sergeants Association and the A.A.R.P.
MSgt. McLamb is survived by his wife, Joann Wojtala McLamb, of Niceville, Fla.; son, Kenny McLain, of Jamestown, N.D.; three daughters, Karen McLamb, of Crestview, Cathy Gall, of St. Marys, Ga., and Wanda Lee, of Amarillo, Texas; sister, Stella Hicks, of Richmond, Va.; brother, Sherrill McLamb, of Benson, N.C., and five grandchildren, Jesse Gall, Brandi McLain, Sheena McLain, Ryan Carr and Jonathan Carr.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Emerald Coast Funeral Home.

Bobby Mann
Bobby (Bondo Bob) Mann, age 59, died of cancer Nov. 29, 1997.
He was born in Atlanta and had lived in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., since 1993.
Survivors are his fiance, Connie VanderSluis; brother, Howard Mann, both of Fort Walton Beach; sisters, Doris Larson of Hernando, Fla., and Margarette Schever of Atlanta. He will surely be missed.
Bobby operated a business selling supplies to auto paint and body shops.
There will be no services.
Hospice of Northwest Florida tended to Bobby in his final weeks. They are a very caring, compassionate group of people and a heartfelt thank you goes out to them.

Glenn L. Fancett
Glenn L. Fancett, treasurer of the Destin Snowbird Club, passed away Nov. 30, 1997, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
He was born in Utica, N.Y., in 1924. For the past 30 years he had resided at Cedar Lake, Clayville, N.Y. Since his retirement in 1986 he has spent the winter months in Destin, Fla.
Mr. Fancett retired from Dairylea Milk Co-op after spending many years as a salesman for Emil Steinhorst & Sons. During World War II he served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army European Operation, receiving many service medals for his performance and bravery.
He lived a loving and caring life and served his community well, making many friends along the way. He was supervisor of the town of Litchfield from 1980 to his retirement. He served as a director of the Cedar Lake Golf and Country Club; secretary of Central Milk Sanitarians for approximately 20 years; and had served as a church councilman at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church, both in Utica.
Mr. Fancett was a Mason, joining Amicable Lodge 664 in New Hartford, N.Y., since 1951. He later transferred his membership to Guilford Lodge 656 in Greensboro, N.C.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy S. Fancett; two sons, Thomas of St. Amant, La., and his wife Kristi, and Scott of Greensboro and his wife Carolyn; and five grandchildren, Donna, Diane, Clair and Carly of Louisiana, and Leslie Rettig of Vancouver, Wash.
A memorial service will be held for Glenn at Grace Lutheran Church, 4100 Two Trees Road, Destin, on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m.

Morris E. Mace
Senior Master Sgt. Morris E. Mace, U.S. Air Force retired, born July 31, 1937, in Huntington, W.Va., passed away Nov. 28, 1997, in Tacoma, Wash.
Senior Master Sgt. Mace served 23 years in the Air Force, was decorated twice, serving in Vietnam, and received two Bronze Stars. After his retirement he served as a supply technician in the 62nd Supply Squadron at McChord Air Force Base for the past 18 years. He was a member of Lakewood Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10018. He will be missed by all.
Survivors include his spouse of 35 years, Mary G. Mace, who also works at McChord Air Force Base in the 446th MSS Air Force Reserve; sons, Michael, Sean and Ronald Mace; mother, Thelma M. Mace; and sister, Donna S. Moore of Mary Esther, Fla.; sister, Sharon L. Houp of Niceville, Fla.; and grandchildren, Christopher E. and Ryan D. Mace of Tacoma, and Amanda V. Scharpe of Puyallup.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Mountain View Valley Chapel.
Donations may be made in Mr. Morris' memory to the Cancer Unit of the University of Washington or the Cancer Unit at Madigan Army Medical Center. Interment
will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.
James Edward Farmer Sr.
James Edward Farmer Sr., age 76, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away at his home on Nov. 29, 1997, after an extended illness.
He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Dec. 22, 1920, and moved to the area 19 years ago. Mr. Farmer was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired as a master servant from the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Mary Esther United Methodist Church; United Methodist Mens Club; American Legion; and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Farmer is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Farmer of Mary Esther; sons, James Edward Farmer Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., and David Virgin Farmer of Gainesville; daughter, E. Jeanette Farmer of Mary Esther; brother, Virgil Wilmuth Farmer of Greenville, S.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Daniel Anthony Parker
Daniel Anthony "Andy" Parker, age 45, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 1997.
Andy was born in Monroe, La., on Jan. 20, 1952, and had been a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County, Fla. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces (Army).
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Mae Parker of Niceville, Fla.; daughter, Melissa K. Parker of Fort Walton Beach; sisters, Elizabeth A. Mihelich of Fort Walton Beach, and Linda Carol Anchors of Atlanta; nephews, Lanny A. Mihelich of Fort Walton Beach, Ryan Michael Anchors and Phillip Daniel Anchors of Atlanta.
His interests included cooking, woodworking, music and spending time with his pet dog, Rocky. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Little Chapel Funeral Home to pay our final respects.

Donn Harris Bicksler
Donn H. Bicksler, age 62, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in a local hospital on Dec. 2, 1997, after an extended illness.
He was born in Penn Yan, N.Y., on April 18, 1935, and moved to the area in 1973 from Dallas. He was a systems analyst with civil service.
Mr. Bicksler is survived by his wife, Catherine Brooks Bicksler; daughter, Catherine Lawrence Bicksler Pate, both of Fort Walton Beach; mother, Nellie Bicksler of Fort Mill, S.C.; sister, Sylvia Parkyn of Birch Tree, Mo.; and granddaughter, Amelia Catherine Pate. Mr. Bicksler was of the Episcopal faith and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family received friends at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in Beal Memorial Cemetery with Mr. Jack Wible officiating.

Robert J. Hansen
Robert J. Hansen, age 72, passed away at his Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., home Nov. 28, 1997, after a two-year battle with lung cancer.
He served in World War II as a medic in the 2nd Battalion of the 254th Infantry Regiment of the 63rd Infantry Division, where he earned two Purple Heart medals plus others. He was born, raised and worked for the IRS for 30 years in St. Paul, Minn., before he retired. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved working with wood. He built a home for he and his wife, Marion Reifler Hansen, in Minnesota, and a home in Santa Rosa Beach, which is their permanent residence now.
Mr. Hansen was always active in all civic activities, including the South Walton Lions who presented him with the Melvin Jones Fellow in October 1997. The IRS selected him as the Civil Servant of the Year. He served nine years on two different school boards in various offices, including treasurer for the school boards and almost all other clubs he belonged to -- with his CPA training he was a natural. He was a member of the American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Hockey Club in North St. Paul; his church in North St. Paul; and many other clubs.
He and his wife, Marion Reifler Hansen, joined the Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club in 1984, and he almost immediately got involved with the Beautification Committee of the Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club. They have built many things, repaired many things, and loved doing it.
He was married to Loretta Vesey, who preceded him in death in 1971. They raised two children. The survivors are his wife, Marion; son, Robert C. Hansen of New Brighton, Minn., who presented him with three grandchildren, Brian, David and Kevin; and daughter, Catherine, who lives in St. Paul; brother, James, who lives in North St. Paul; sisters, Muriel Shroyer of Emily, Minn., and Doris Nelson of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Francis M. McDaniel
Francis M. McDaniel, age 66, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Columbia Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
He was a retied truck driver with Flavorich, Barbers and Borden dairies; a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a U.S. Army veteran of Korea; and had resided in this area for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. McDaniel of DeFuniak Springs; son, Robert Francis McDaniel of Canada; daughters, Sandra Jo Whitaker of Fort Walton Beach, and Maxine Diane King of Morton, Miss.; brothers, Junior C. McDaniel of Santa Maria, Calif., and Paul J. McDaniel of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Lewis R. McDaniel of Crestview, Fla.; sisters, Margaret Smith of Canton, Ohio, Lillian Criss, Agnes McCue and Rosalee Sinsel, all of Grafton, W.Va.; and four granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, with the Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs beginning at 1 p.m. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.

Janis M. Peterson
Janis M. Peterson, age 41, of Destin, Fla., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, after a brief illness.
Jan was born on Dec. 10, 1955, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, and traveled extensively throughout the world with her military family. She moved to this area in 1973.
Janis worked in the food and beverage industry prior to obtaining her Real Estate and Brokerage License and Community Association Management License. She was co-founder of Dale E. Peterson Realty; and was preceded in death by her infant sister, Patricia Helen Janca.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Dale E. Peterson of Destin; daughters, Michelle and Lauren Peterson, both of Destin; parents, Robert D. and Virginia Janca of Destin; brother and sister-in-law, David and Edith Janca of Destin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marta and Larry Nicodemus of Tallahassee, Fla., Melissa and Jim Myers of Shalimar, Fla., Rebecca and Scott McFarland of Destin, and Sheila and Michael Gibler of Fort Polk, La.; grandmother, Helen Janca; grandmother-in-law, Mildred "Mimi" Redmond; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ouida Cox and Phil Rojas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Eunice Peterson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kent and Wanda Peterson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marsha and Dale Hull; and nieces and nephews, Brooke and Ben Janca, Christian Myers, Caroline Gibler, Natalie and Alena Peterson.
