Curtis Cates
Curtis Cates, age 76, of Crestview, Fla., passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997.
He was born in Ocean Springs, Miss., but lived most of his life in Okaloosa County, Fla. Mr. Cates was a member of First Baptist Church in Crestview. He was also an avid fox hunter.
Survivors include his two sons and daughters, John and Joyce Cates of Shalimar, Fla., and Tom and Patty Cates of Ocean City, N.J.; a loving companion, Nellie Neel of Crestview; one brother, William H. Cates; five sisters, Ethel Byrd, Edith Desporte, Lois Miller, Elsie Tisdale and Opal Smith; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the First Baptist Church of Crestview at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Francis Picker officiating. Burial will follow in the Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery with Masonic services. Mr. Cates' remains will lie in state at the church for one hour before funeral services.
Whitehurst Funeral Home, Crestview, is in charge of arrangements.

Edmond B. Carter
Edmond B. Carter, age 63, of Niceville, Fla., passed away on Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1934, in Birmingham, Ala. He had been a resident of the local area for the past four years, moving here from Lake Worth, Fla. He was Baptist by faith. He will be best known for his loving relationship with his family -- to Edmond, his family always came first.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alberta, of 29 years; sons, John Bemiss of Charleston, S.C., Robert Bemiss of Centerport, N.Y., and Martin Carter and Wayne Carter, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughters, Nancy Tufano of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Cathy Borden of Lake Worth, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.
In keeping with the wishes of the family, Edmond will be memorialized by cremation, and his remains placed in Memory Gardens in Lake Worth at a later date.

Robert Lee Baker
Robert Lee Baker, age 81, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997.
Mr. Baker was born in Fort Payne, Ala., and had been a resident of Florida since 1956. He was Protestant by faith and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Baker was a veteran of World War II, and later retired from the U.S. civil service with over 32 years of service.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Locust, in January 1997. Survivors include his loving wife Mabel of Fort Walton Beach; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert P. Baker of Shalimar, Fla., and Donald R. and Jerrie Baker of Fort Walton Beach; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn S. and John Hoover of Mary Esther, Fla., and Barbara and Pat Weigle of Fort Walton Beach; brothers, Hobson H. Baker of Fort Payne, and Vance H. Baker of Alexander City, Ala.; grandchildren, Scott Ksiazek, Vickie Smith, Misty Baker and Dale Wayne Baker; and great-grandchildren, Garrett Smith, Aimee Baker and Andrew Baker.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services and interment in Fischer Cemetery, Fort Payne, will be under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Fort Payne.

George Carl Schultz
George Carl Schultz, age 60, of Navarre, Fla. passed away in a Fort Walton Beach, Fla., hospital on Dec. 16, 1997, after an extended illness.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1937, in Bloseburg, Pa., to George C. and Mary Pine Schultz. He moved to the area in 1983 and he was employed by the Okaloosa County Mosquito Control Program. He was a U.S. Army veteran and Catholic by faith.
Mr. Schultz is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Schultz of Navarre; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy C. and Kathy Schultz of Hazel Green, Ala.; two daughters, Paula Schultz-Denney and her husband Robert of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Stacey Schultz and her fiance, Jeff Jacobus of Navarre; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Tom Coates of Watsontown, Pa.; grandchildren, Christopher Beck, Meghan Schultz, Hazel Green, Ashleigh Schultz-Denney, Addison Denney, Trevor Denney and Brandie Washington; a great grandchild, Kyla Beck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19, in the chapel of Emerald Coast Funeral Home with Rev. James G. Cole officiating. Mr. Schultz will be memorialized by cremation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart and Lung Association.

Frank L. Plympton
Frank L. Plympton, age 91, of Laurel Hill, Fla., left this world to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997. Frank was a long-time resident of Laurel Hill.
He is survived by a special son, Thomas Boswell of Laurel Hill; and two daughters, Roberta (Bobbie) Bowen and Ina Gill, both of Laurel Hill. He leaves behind four grandchildren, George Bowen, Frank Bowen, Mickey Gill and Blue Gill; and five great-grandchildren: Tony Bowen, Jerry Bowen, Casey Bowen, Carla Steele and Chelsea Bowen. There are two great-great-grandchildren, Eric Gill and Cody Shannon Steele.
A memorial service will be held at the McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, with the Rev. Donnie Cadenhead officiating.

Col. Edwin C. Evans
Col. Edwin C. Evans, U.S. Air Force retired, age 80, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away on Dec. 14, 1997. in a Fort Walton Beach hospital.
Col. Evans was born on July 22, 1917, to William E. and Sadie Barbara Clowe Evans of Hocking County, Ohio, and attended Ohio State University before entering the U.S. Army as an air cadet in 1940. After being commissioned in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a regular officer, highlights of his military career included serving in the European Theater during World War II, flying the Berlin Airlift with the Strategic Air Command, serving on the Joint Chiefs of Staff with NATO's 4th Allied Tactical Air Force, and in the Military Airlift Command, and graduating from the Armed Forces Industrial College. He retired from active duty on Aug. 31, 1969, at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., having completed over 29 years of military service.
Col. Evans was a member of the Order of Daedalians, the Retired Officers Association, and the Mary Esther United Methodist Church.
Col. Evans was preceded in death by his brother, William E. Evans, and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise M. Evans of Fort Walton Beach; two sons and daughters-in-law, Col. (U.S. Army, retired) Richard E. and Chandra Evans of Fairfax, Va., and Maj. (U.S. Army, retired) Charles E. and Lisa P. Evans of Winter Park, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Tricia A. Evans, Kari E. Evans and Todd E. Evans, all of Fairfax.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Mary Esther United Methodist Church, 703 E. Miracle Strip Pkwy., Mary Esther, FL 32569.
A graveside funeral service, with full military honors, will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Family and friends may send flowers to the Mary Esther United Methodist Church for Saturday's memorial service. Donations may also be made in memory of Edwin Evans to the Mary Esther United Methodist Church or to the American Heart Association.

Virginia M. Dungan
Virginia M. Dungan, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 15, 1997.
She resided in Crestview, Fla., for the past 21/2 years but had lived in Pensacola, Fla., for over 30 years. Virginia was born in Independence, Mo., in 1920, where she lived most of her life until she married Alma L. Dungan, who preceded her in death.
Virginia was a beloved member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held the priesthood office of Priest. She attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, and the University of Missouri at Columbia, and graduated from nursing school in Independence, Mo. As a registered nurse, she served the Red Cross in Hawaii during World War II, was a visiting nurse and worked with cerebral palsy children in Escambia County, Fla., and was "nursie" to many at summer youth camps. In recent years she donated her gifts from God by serving her church in many ways. She was a reviewer for correspondents taking home study classes through the RLDS's Temple School. She had personally received credit for 50 classes and held five certificates in advanced studies. Virginia had a great love for people and always shared of herself.
Virginia leaves her two daughters, Joni Wilson of Independence, Mo., and Susan Barnes of Crestview, Fla.; their husbands, T.R. Wilson and Terry Barnes; and four cherished grandchildren, Tristan and Brianna Wilson, and Teresa and Daniel Barnes. She also leaves three sisters, Enid Cruce of Independence, Mo., and Billie Mead and Mary Ellen McNabb, both in the Pensacola area. Her stepchildren are David Dungan, Don Dungan, Dan Dungan, Faye Pendarvis and Linda Booker. Through them she has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
On Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m., the family will receive friends at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Crestview, at the corner of W. First Street and Lee Street. High Priest Carl Hope and Elder Jackson McNabb will officiate at the memorial service celebrating her life at 3 p.m., followed by dinner provided by her loving church family.

Ervin Coachman Sr.
Ervin Coachman Sr., age 51, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Coachman was born on June 2, 1946, in Port St. Joe, Fla. In his early years he was converted and baptized at Zion Fair Baptist Church in Port St. Joe under the pastorate of the late Rev. Chas P. Price. He served faithfully there as a member of the Sunday School and the Junior Male Chorus. Some 25 years ago he moved to Fort Walton Beach. He joined Mercy and Grace Deliverance Temple Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Alee Gainer, where he remained until his death.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Mrs. Millie Coachman; daughters, Paula and Yolanda Coachman of Port St. Joe, Fla., Cassandra Coachman of Naples, Fla., Krystal Coachman of Fort Walton Beach, Denise McQueen of Atlanta, and Valerie Lawlar of Clinton, Md.; sons, Corey, Julius, Chris and Ervin Jr. all of Fort Walton Beach, Harold (Patrice) of Crestview, Shawn (Janis) of Pensacola, Fla., Michael of Atlanta, and Anthony of Mobile, Ala.; sisters, Edna (Ozzie), Annie and Beatrice, all of Daytona Beach, Fla., Bessie of Los Angeles, and Mary Joyce (Charles) of Melbourne, Fla.; brothers, John L. Coachman of Daytona Beach, Fla., Henry Lee (Sylvia) of Conway, S.C., and Willie of Los Angeles; aunts, Mrs. Virgie Baldwin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mrs. Alberta McWhite of Harrisburg, Pa.; uncle, Curtis Coachman of Brooklyn; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two aunts-in-law; one uncle-in-law; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends; and two devoted friends, David Jackon and Jerry Morris, both of Fort Walton Beach.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mercy and Grace Temple, 233 Burnette Ave., Fort Walton Beach.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Gregg Chapel AME Church, 34 Carson Drive, Fort Walton Beach, and the interment will be in Beal Memorial Cemetery.

Mattie M. Davis
Mattie M. Davis, age 82, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Dec. 14, 1997, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Mrs. Davis was born December 2, 1915, in China Grove, Ala. She was retired from Smith's and was a member of Beulah First Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach.
She is survived by four sons, L.C. Davis of Daytona Beach, Fla., J.D. Davis (Gladys) of Miami, Fla., Johnnie Davis (Sylvia) of New Haven, Conn., and Jammie Davis (Bobbie) of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Minnie Davis of Fort Walton Beach, Annie Mae Byrd (Arthur) and Dortha Jean Curry (Allen) of Hamilton, Okla.; four brothers, James Coleman (Thelma) and C.B. Coleman (Ruby) of Hamilton, Okla., Robert Coleman (Jerri) of Marietta, Ga., and Adell Coleman of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters, Ethel Calton of Hamilton, Okla., Pastoria Gillis (Willie) of Fitzpatrick, Ala., Bessie Brundage of Fort Walton Beach, and Annie Barns (Quillie) of Compton, Calif.; one aunt, M. Sue, and one uncle, Charlie Towsend, both of Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Beulah First Baptist Church, 109 McGriff Street, Fort Walton Beach, with the Rev. S. L. Thigpen officiating. The remains will be placed in the church two hours before the funeral.

George W. Adams, Sr.
George W. Adams, Sr., born Nov. 16, 1907, in Savannah, Ga., died at Magnolia Nursing and Convalescent Home in Pensacola, Fla., Dec. 17, 1997, after a brief illness.
Mr. Adams had served in the U.S. Army Cavalry and was a retired purchasing director for A&P Tea Co. after serving with them for 41 years in Birmingham. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was Past Master of the Birmingham, Alabama, Chapter, Masonic Temple. He was also a member of the Center Point Baptist Church of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Carl Adams, Sr., and Joseph Adams.
He is survived by two sons, George W. Adams, Jr., of Houston, Texas, and Robert C. Adams of Meridian, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. Rita Shake of Raleigh, N.C., and Rita Adams of Crestview, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
It was Mr. Adams wish to be cremated and his ashes scattered in a private family service at a later date.

Josephine B. McCants
Funeral service for Josephine B. McCants, 82, former Fort Walton Beach, Fla., resident, was held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Lawton, Okla., with Rev. Bob John, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. McCants died Wednesday, Dec., 10, 1997, in a local hospital.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Lawton, Okla., under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Josephine B. McCants was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Stapleton, Neb., where she attended and graduated from high school. She attended Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, Fla., and obtained an associate degree in computer technology. She was a licensed cosmetologist in Florida. She owned and operated a restaurant in Stapleton, Neb. She retired from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., as a Civil Service computer operator in 1981, after thirty-five years of service. She was an avid genealogist. She was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former member of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maureen VanArsdale.
Survivors include three sons, Bernard L. McCants of North Platte, Neb., Kenneth G. McCants of Ashland, Neb., and Dennis V. McCants of Lawton, Okla.; thirteen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Christine Mohnasky
Mrs. Christine Mohnasky, age 78, of Niceville, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, in a local hospital. Mrs. Mohnasky was born in Andalusia, Ala., and had lived in Niceville since 1962. She was previously employed with billeting at Eglin Air Force Base, worked at the base day care center, and worked a short time at the Eglin Hospital. She was a member of the Edgewater Garden Club and a member of the First Baptist Church of Niceville where she was in the choir, taught second grade Sunday school, and worked in the church nursery.
Mrs. Mohnasky is survived by her beloved husband John; three sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Mack and Margaret Spear of Niceville, Fla., Jimmy L. and Violet Spear of Ledyard, Conn., and Tom M. Mohnasky of Laurel Hill, Fla.; one sister, Nellie Mae Harrison of Laurel Hill, Fla.; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Niceville with the Rev. Gerald Reeves officiating. Mrs. Mohnasky will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., with Whitehurst Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be held on Sunday Dec. 21, 1997, at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

James "Jim" Gerald Harrell
James "Jim" Gerald Harrell, age 68, passed away Wednesday, Dec., 17, 1997, at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy Harrell; five children, Stephen, Gary, Debbie, Melody and Suzanne. Other family members include a brother, sister and eight grandchildren as well as a mother-in-law, three sister-in-laws and two daughter-in-laws.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years and served state side and abroad in Japan, Greenland, Thailand and Vietnam during the war. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant in April 1972.
At his untimely death he was employed at Emerald Coast Cartage as terminal manager in Fort Walton Beach.
We all experience unique memories but we all share common pain. Jim has been our provider, our comforter, our mentor and friend. His warmth, generosity and love will be with us in our hearts forever.
Family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at McLaughlin Twin City Funeral Home in Niceville.
Funeral services will be conducted from First Assembly of God Church in Niceville on Dec. 20, 1997, at 2 p.m. with Rev. George Skipper and Boyce Teas officiating.
Interment will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery, Niceville, Fla., with military honors.

A.M. Teixeira
C/MSGT A.M. "Tex" Teixeira passed away on December 18, 1997. "Tex" was born on November 17, 1927, in Hillsboro, N.H. He served thirty years in the United States Air Force from 1945 to 1975.
Tex is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Bonnie Teixeira; son, Michael Teixeira; daughter, Debbie Kohlenstein; son, Mark Teixeira; son-in-law, Frank Kohlenstein; daughter-in-law, Karen Teixeira; and three cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Kortney, and Kenzie Teixeira.
He is also survived by sisters, Louise Horvath; Maxine Boyd; Catherine Teixeira; brother, Ronnie Teixeira; brother-in-laws, Mike Horvath, George Boyd; Kenneth Dowell; sister-in-laws, Loretta Teixeira and Elizabeth Dowell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He had a special relationship with his mother-in-law, Louise Dowell.
Tex was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed by family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was a jazz enthusiast for many years. He and his wife, Bonnie, attended Chapel 2 on Eglin Air Force Base. Across the years and miles, Tex touched many lives with his smile and friendship.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Waterfront Rescue Mission in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., or to the American Lung Association.
A visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at McLaughlin Twin City Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at McLaughlin Twin City Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1997, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., at 1:15 p.m.

Randell Ellis Aultman
Randell Ellis Aultman, age 60, died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997. He was the youngest son of Houston and Kate Aultman and was born and reared in Crestview, Fla. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crestview.
He attended Gupton-Jones School of Mortuary Science in Texas. He began his career with Whitehurst Funeral Home of Crestview while in high school, later interning with Wilson Funeral Home and Smith Funeral Home of Panama City, Fla.
Mr. Aultman opened Aultman Funeral Home in Jay, Fla., in early 1962. He later purchased Whitehurst Funeral Home in Crestview in late 1965 and operated it until approximately 1970. He then opened Aultman Funeral Home at its present site on Pine Street.
He was a member of various civic groups in Crestview, a member of the Hadji Shrine Temple in Pensacola, Fla., and served on the City Council of the City of Crestview.
He is survived by his three children, Robert of Key Largo, Fla., Kimberley of Panama City, and John and his wife, Christina, of Panama City.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lois Aultman and Donald Ray Aultman, and his parents, Houston and Kate Aultman.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at noon in the McLaughlin Aultman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Francis Picker officiating. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Park Cemetery in Crestview.

Peter C. Badali
Peter C. Badali, age 63, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died peacefully in his sleep the mroning of Dec. 20, 1997. Peter was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1959. Peter moved back to Fort Walton Beach from Washington, D.C., in 1991, after retiring from Honeywell Inc. Peter's life was filled with achievements: son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor. He ended his successful 30-year career with Honeywell as a vice president. During that time he provided many people with the knowledge and understanding of both life and business, passing on his beliefs in God and family, ethics and honesty. He will be truly missed by many, both young and old.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Mary Jo Badali, of Fort Walton Beach; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Renee Badali, of Springhill, Tenn.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jack Head, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Lisa and Whit Harris, of Fort Walton Beach, and Tracy and BobDhyani, of Rockville, Md.; his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Marie Badali, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the McLaughlin Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 1997. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, with Father Raymond Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach.

Amos Elbert Hulion
Amos Elbert Hulion, age 75, of New Harmony died Saturday in Gainsville, Fla. Mr. Hulion was born March 3, 1922, and a lifelong resident of New Harmony. He was Southern Baptist by faith, and a member of New Harmony Baptist church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from U.S. Civil Service at Eglin Air Force Base.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Cubie and Mary Hulion, of Interlacher, Fla.; four sisters, Milbra Richards, of Niceville, Fla., Ruby Blackwell, of Windsor, Fla., Sabra Weeks, of Niceville, and Mary Carlislo, of Windsor; two grandchildren, Tracy and Brian Hulion, of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at New Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. Ed Anthony will officiate.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Comander Funeral Home.
Comander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
