Jan Edward Seifert
Jan Edward Seifert, 64, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Saturday,
April 26, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Services will be held at 10:30
a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in
Norman.
Mr. Seifert was born June 16, 1938 in Pittsburg, Kansas to
Opal and John A. Seifert. Jan’s earned degrees include a BM and MA
in Trumpet Performance from Pittsburg State University and an MLS
from University of Illinois. He taught music at Arkansas State
University in Jonesboro. He moved to Champaign Illinois where he
served as Head of the Undergraduate Library at the University of
Illinois. In 1976 he moved his family to Norman. He was a librarian
at the University of Oklahoma for more than twenty years in the
capacity of Director of Public Services, Head of the Fine Arts
Libraries, Head of Branch Libraries and Interim Coordinator of
Collection Development.
Jan is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter Gretchen;
granddaughters, Sydney and Sophie; son, Kurt; son, Erich and wife
Elizabeth. Jan loved his friends as his family.
Joan Seward
Joan Seward, 77, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday,
April 10, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Ms. Seward was born
June 3, 1925 in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Clint and Edith Jackson
Seward. She grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana and graduated
from Wiley High School there. She worked for the Indiana
National Bank in Indianapolis, Indiana where she served as Vice
President. Ms. Seward moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1993
from Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended the Memorial
Presbyterian Church in Norman.
Ms. Seward was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her twin sister, Jeanette Wallenbrock, and
husband, Dale of Norman, OK; sister, Mary Evelyn Baker of
Norman, OK; three nephews, Terry Wallenbrock and wife,
Angela of Columbus, OH, Robert Wallenbrock and wife,
Sharene of Indianapolis, IN. and Dr. Mark Wallenbrock of
Columbus, OH.; one niece, Penny Bailey of Albuquerque, NM;
four great-nieces, Catherine Wallenbrock of Columbus, OH.,
Nicole Wallenbrock and Beth Bailey, both of New York, NY
and Jennifer Froderman of Indianapolis, IN; and four greatnephews,
Eric Wallenbrock of France, Kristopher Wallenbrock
of Nashville, TX, Bryan Bailey of Texas and Tate Froderman.
Fannie Estelle Smith
Fannie Estelle Smith, 82, died Saturday, April 12, at Grace Living
Center in Norman, Oklahoma . She was born September 13,1920 in
Vandalia, Red River Co., Texas to Margie Hubbard Johnson. Her father,
Roscoe Owen Johnson, was killed in an automobile accident before she was
born. She attended Lexington and Noble High Schools. She married James
Albert Smith at Paoli, OK on April 8, 1939. She was a member of Trinity
Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and
planted a huge vegetable garden every year, then canned everything. She was
an accomplished seamstress. She made a quilt and crocheted an afghan for
each of her children and grandchildren and gave away many more to friends
and relatives.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a
son, Ronald A. Smith; a great-granddaughter, Sara Protiva; two brothers,
Hughston Johnson and Owen Johnson; and three sisters, Trula Thompson,
Ada Jeffries and Beulah Clark. She is survived by two sons, Michael G.
Smith and his wife, Kay of Oklahoma City and Gordon A. Smith of
Broomfield, CO; a daughter, Merilyn J. Pope and her husband, Paul, of
Norman; daughter-in-law, Pam Westbrook-Smith of Oklahoma City;
grandsons, Burl and Bruce Simpson of Norman, Berry Simpson of San
Antonio, Andy Smith of Broken Arrow, Galen and Jim Smith of Oklahoma
City and Chris Smith of Broomfield, CO; granddaughters, Jacque Protiva of
Texarkana, Valerie Jury of Moore, Terri Whitlock of Noble and Jessie Smith
of Broomfield; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Arthur Kenneth Bernier
Arthur Kenneth Bernier, 69, of
Norman died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at
Norman Regional Hospital. Visitation will be
held at Havenbrook Funeral Home, in
Norman, on Thursday and Friday. A
memorial service will be held at Havenbrook
Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 A.M.,
Saturday, May 1, 2004.
Ken was born March 19, 1935 to
Viola and A.C. "Coon" Bernier in Norman,
Oklahoma. He attended Norman Public
Schools through the eighth grade then left to
attend high school at Thomas Jefferson School for Boys in St. Louis.
After graduation, he attended Harvard University graduating Cum
Laude with a B.A. of Architectural Sciences. He then returned to
Norman and in 1958 married Jane Frances Mead, also of Norman. He
served in the U. S. Army from 1957-1959. After the completion of his
military service, Ken began what would become a long career with
WesternElectric/A. T.& T. He also obtained his Juris Doctorate from
Oklahoma City University School of Law. At. A.T. & T. he served
in many capacities including, Affirmative Action Officer, before
retiring as their Regional Department Chief for Benefits.
Ken was a proud and devoted husband, father and grandfather
and will also be remembered for his selfless dedication to numerous
community causes. He was a member of many boards including the
Community After School Program and the Pioneer Multi-County
Library System. In addition to being a board member, he also served
terms as Board President/Chair for the United Way, Transition
House, Children's Arts Network, and Jazz In June. He volunteered at
KGOU Public Radio and was active in the realization of Norman's
new animal adoption shelter. Ken was a past nominee for Norman's
Volunteer of the Year and in 2001 was awarded the Norman Arts and
Humanities Council Person in the Arts Award.
He belonged to various organizations including Sooner
Rotary, the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Norman Chamber of
Commerce, and McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include
his wife, Jane; daughters, Michelle Little and husband, Sam, of
Edmond, Christie Tongier and husband, Jason, of Norman and Sarah
Gillard - to whom Ken was a surrogate father- and husband, Phil, of
Tonbridge, England; grandchildren Stephanie, Jessica, Madeline, Nia,
Serena, Ben, and Francesca; brother, R. Dell Bernier and wife,
Debby, of Tulsa; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Charles William Hickman
Charles William Hickman, 67, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Friday, April 9, 2004,
at Norman Regional Hospital after a lengthy
battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Funeral
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday,
April 16, 2004, at Havenbrook Funeral Home
Chapel with Reverend David Spain officiating.
Interment
will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery
in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Hickman was born August 30, 1936, in El Reno,
Oklahoma, to V.A. and Mary Ella Hickman. He graduated from
Norman High School in 1955 and attended the University of
Oklahoma where he was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma
marching band. He received a degree from the Draughan School of
Business.
Mr. Hickman married Kay Katherine Lee on June 12, 1959,
in Norman. He was employed for twenty-three years as manager of
the O.U. Book Exchange. After retirement from O.U. he worked for
Dillards at Crossroads Mall in Norman.
Mr. Hickman was a resident at Noble Health Care Center,
where he served as president of the Residents’ Council. Under his
leadership, the residents had a flag pole installed on the front lawn.
Following a flag-lowering ceremony, the staff of Noble Health Care
Center placed the American flag with him as a final tribute. During
his time at Noble Health Care he enjoyed playing bingo, leading the
"Coffee & News" group and many visits from his beloved toy poodle,
Kira.
Mr. Hickman was preceded in death be his parents, V.A. and
Mary Ella Hickman, and brother, Herbert. Survivors include his wife,
Kay, of the home; and two daughters, Dana Katherine and Lee Danise
of Norman, OK.
Following interment
at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, there will be a family
visitation at 104 E. Haddock in Norman.

John was born on May 26, 1948 in Norman, Oklahoma to
Merle F. and Mary Lou (Jansing) Krohmer. He grew up in Norman
and graduated from Norman High School. He then joined the U. S.
Army. After he was honorably discharged from the Army he returned
to Norman and was self employed. John was a member of St. Joseph
Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and
friends.
John was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by
his father, Merle F. Krohmer of Norman; brother, James D. Krohmer
of Norman; nephews, Jason and Christopher Krohmer both of
Norman.
Robert Allen Lehman
Robert Allen Lehman, 63, of Norman,
Oklahoma, died peacefully in his sleep
Saturday, April 24, 2004 in Norman,

Mr. Lehman was born December 4, 1939 in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, to Ida Mae and J.J. Lehman. He graduated from Harding
High School in 1958 despite a spinal cord injury suffered his Junior
year. At the University of Oklahoma he was a member of Sigma
Alpha Epsilon social fraternity where he held many offices including
Rush Chairman. Ever the entrepreneur, he designed, built and
managed the Boomerang restaurant in Norman, which was a favorite
of students and residents alike, for over thirty years. He had a
philanthropic spirit exhibited by his enthusiastic support of the Arts
and Athletics at O.U. He was instrumental in the formation of the
extremely successful Wine and Beer Import business plus a myriad
of other ventures. He cherished his friendships, old and new, loved
to entertain and treasured lively conversation. He was a loving son
and brother who dedicated his life to his countless friends. He will
be greatly missed.
Mr. Lehman was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors
include his brother, Jerry and sister-in-law, Barbara of Laguna Niguel,
CA

Mrs. Mathews was born January 18, 1922 in Greenville,
Texas, to James F. and Lucy (Bell) Cook. She was a longtime
resident of Norman before moving to Harlingen, Texas in 1986. She
recently moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Dora was married for sixtyone
years to Ted P. Mathews. She was actively involved in
community service, volunteering for the Cerebral Palsy Center in
Norman and as a Reading Mentor for Harlingen Public Schools in
Texas. She was a member of both the Norman and Harlingen Golf
and Country Clubs, and the Town and Country Garden Club in
Norman. Dora loved playing bridge and golf. She was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen, TX and the First Christian
Church in Norman.
Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Ted, of the home; son, Richard Cook
Mathews and wife, Erin, of Dallas, TX; daughter, Lucy Ann Mathews
Vaught and husband, Gary, of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Claudine
Ibbotson of Abilene, TX; two grandsons, Grant Mathews Vaught and
wife, Lindy Rae, of Indianapolis, IN and Travis Hayden Mathews of
Dallas, TX; great-grandson, Logan Lane Vaught; and nephew,

Shirley Ann Niece, 63, of Norman, Oklahoma, loving wife,
mother, sister and friend, passed away Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004

Mrs Niece was born March 13, 1941 in Purcell, Oklahoma, to
George Edward and Edith Faye (Henson) Dean. She married Robert
"Bob" Lee Niece on April 14, 1968 at the Little Axe Methodist
Church. She was dearly loved and will be missed very much. She
liked little black curly puppies, plants, shopping and pretty nicknacks.
Shirley was the most wonderful and beloved woman God ever made.
Mrs. Niece was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors
include her loving husband, Bob of the home; daughter, Linda Lee
Barnett and husband, Brent of Rosebud, Texas; six brothers, Clifford
Dean of Norman, Bobby Dean of Arkansas, Ralph of Louisiana, Ray

David was born February 4,1925, in Ft. Cobb; OK, to
Thomas and Mary Woodrow. He was the oldest and only son of
seven children. The Woodrows moved to Norman in 1939. In his
senior year at Norman High School, he was drafted into the Army
and served in first invasion of the Battle of Normandy. He was
honorably discharged on August 29, 1944. After returning home
he married Yvonne Wilder on October 6, 1945.
David was plant manager at Norman Concrete, formerly
Makins Concrete, before retiring in 1992. David loved to travel,
eat, and garden, and in his later years, loved going to the mall and
having coffee in the afternoon. He especially loved and enjoyed his
ten grandchildren and visiting with his many wonderful friends.
Mr. Woodrow is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas
and Mary; a sister, Mary Jo; and his father- and mother-in-law,
Leonard & Marie Wilder. Survivors include his loving wife of
fifty-nine years, Yvonne Jo; three sons, David L. Woodrow, Jr. and
wife, Nancy, Kenneth Woodrow and wife, Ann, all of Norman,
Oklahoma, and Michael L. Woodrow and wife, Denise, of Purcell,
OK; daughter, Sandra J. Chenot and husband, Alan of Norman,
OK; ten grandchildren, Heather, Sommer, Amy, Kyle, Clif, David,
Allison, Jace, Addie, and Erin; and five sisters, Patricia Merkle and
husband, Joe, Betty Morgan, Janie Murphy and husband, Marc, all
of Norman, JoNell Grissom and husband, Nolan, and Wanda

Austin Derek McKaig, 22, of Norman, Oklahoma died Thursday,
July 31, 2003, in McClain County. Funeral Services will be held 10:30

will follow at 4:00
p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma with full military

Austin was born August 27, 1980 in Enid, Oklahoma. He grew up in Enid, moving to
Norman in 1990, where he graduated from Norman High School in 1999. He attended O.U. for 3
½ years prior to joining the U. S. Army. Austin was proud to serve his country. He graduated with
a degree in Communication from AIT School in Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Austin was a Private E 3 and
was scheduled to serve in Korea. He was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity while at O. U.
and a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman. Austin enjoyed his friends, family and was
an avid O.U. and Dallas Cowboy football fan. He loved to make people laugh. He was a joy to
everyone he met and loved by all.
Austin was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Russell McKaig. He is survived
by his parents, Tony & Janis McKaig of the home; brother, Tyler McKaig of the home; paternal
grandmother, Chloe Ann McKaig of Cedar Valley, Oklahoma and maternal grandparents, Ruby &
Arlynn Baker of Enid, Oklahoma.

Oscar Folsom, Jr.
Oscar Folsom, Jr., of Norman died Wednesday, August 6. Oscar, Jr. was born June 29,
1922 in Caney, Oklahoma to Oscar Folsom, Sr. and Blanche Ballard Folsom. Oscar
graduated from Atoka High School in May 1940. He then attended Murray State School of
Agriculture, Tishomingo, Oklahoma from September 1940 to June 1942. After a career in
the U.S. Navy--August 1942 to May 1963--he attended the University of Oklahoma,
Norman, from January 1964 to January 1966. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank
of Lieutenant Commander. After his service in the Navy, he completed his education at the
University of Oklahoma receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree with a
specialization in mathematics. Oscar was the first naval aviator from Atoka County,
Oklahoma. During his naval career he received numerous commendations/citations for
meritorious acts while participating in aerial flights as a pilot of carrier based fighter planes
in operations against the enemy. He flew off of numerous carriers and had approximately
500 carrier landings as a fighter pilot. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the
Korean War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. After completing his degree in education he
taught mathematics and aerospace at Western Oaks Junior High School in the Putnam City
School District for 20 years.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents. Oscar is survived by his wife, Laura Bryan
Folsom, of the home; one son, David Folsom and wife, Sharon, of Oklahoma City; one
stepdaughter, Cynthia Blair Sarem-Aslani and husband, Hormoz, of Phoenix, AZ.; four
step-grandchildren, Bryan Sarem-Aslani and wife, Ashley, of Norman, Martina Sarem-
Aslani Yoder and husband, Brandon, of Gilbert, AZ., Laura Sakeen Sarem-Aslani and
Nancy Sarem-Aslani of Phoenix, AZ.; and one step-great grandson, Aiden Sarem-Aslani
of Norman; four brothers, James O. Folsom and wife, Stella of Tulsa, OK., John B. Folsom
and wife, Marge of Banning, CA., William J. Folsom and wife, Nan, of Waynesboro, VA.,
Charles H Folsom and wife, Ruth Ann, of Shreveport, LA.; and one sister, Mary Folsom
Kyle and husband, Ted, of Woodward, OK.; and many nieces and nephews.

the wonderful care given Oscar during a long, extended illness with Parkinson's disease.

Anthony George Anglin
Anthony George Anglin, 39, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
suddenly on Monday, February 9, 2004 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under
the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Anglin was born December 29, 1964 in San Bernardino,
California, the loving son to Harold "Buck" and Barbara (Prince)
Anglin. He moved to Norman in 1992 from Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. Anglin was preceded in death by his brother, Michael
Wayne Anglin and grandparents, Lavern and Dan Anglin and Herman
Prince. Survivors include his parents, Buck and Barbara Anglin of
Norman.

Churchill E. Blakey
Churchill E. Blakey, 50, Norman, died Saturday, Feb. 21, in a traffic accident on Interstate
35. He was born May 10, 1953, in Oklahoma City, to Churchill and Gail Blakey. He attended
schools in Oklahoma City and in the mid-1960s moved to Norman with his family. He attended
Norman Public Schools including Norman High School. He later attended The George Junior
Republic near Ithaca, N.Y., and Pima Junior College in Tucson, Ariz.
Churchill was a child of the ’60s. He loved to experience life, and in his youth traveled to
Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco with several friends. He was an avid reader, loved poetry and
politics and was committed to liberal causes. Many years of his life were served in prison, but the
Lord set him free and he was devoted to helping those still in the darkness to find God’s grace. For
the past nine years, Churchill was a valued employee of "Top of the World," a worldwide
manufacturer of sports apparel based in Norman. Churchill loved music, especially blues, jazz and
classical rock ’n’ roll. He was generous to a fault and devoted to his two cats, Iggy and Periwinkle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Churchill Blakey, in 1975. Survivors include his
mother, Gail Blakey of Norman; sister, Carol Blakey of Oklahoma City; and brother, Tom Blakey
of Norman.
