Kenneth Earl Horner
Kenneth Earl Horner, 86, of Norman, Oklahoma died
Saturday, February 22, 2003 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Funeral
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at the
First Free Will Baptist Church of Norman with Reverend Joe Grizzle
officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Norman,
Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Dalin Horner, Chandler Gillespie,
Byron Horner, Bryan Horner, Bradford Gillespie, Brett Horner,
David Jones & Matt Davison. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Kenneth was born in May, Oklahoma on November 14, 1916,
to Byron Earl and Vernila May Horner. He met his future wife, Hazel
Alton, in 1934 while he was playing for community dances at the
K.P.Hall. They were married Christmas Eve, 1935.
Kenneth was a U.S. Army veteran and served in post World
War II Philippine Islands in the reconstruction effort. Following his
military service he had a life-long career of heavy equipment
operation and maintenance with local companies of Harris
Construction and Chapman Construction. He retired in 1979 and
lived in Norman until his death. Kenneth was preceeded in death by
his wife, Hazel, two sons, Byron Kay and Norman Eugene "Chip".
He is survived by three sons, Jerry Horner and his wife, Norma of
Tahlequah, OK, Ken Horner and his wife, Roxanne of Norman, and
Richard and his wife, Nancy of Stillwater; two daughters, Elaine and
her husband, Chandler Gillespie of Raleigh, N.C. and Sherry
Hutcheman of Bartlesville, OK; eleven grandchildren and eight greatgranchildren
and several wonderful, caring friends.
Kenneth accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his saviour almost
four years ago. Though he was almost blind in this life, he can now
see his beloved wife whom he has joined.

W. D. (Bill) Bishop
W. D. (Bill) Bishop, 82, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Thursday, February 6, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Funeral Services
will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 10, 2003 at Faith
Assembly of God Church in Norman, Oklahoma with Reverend John
L. Gifford officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery
in Norman, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Will Bishop, Cody
Dennis, Darrel Dionne, Ralph Graham, Bill Prater and Tim
Thompson. Honorary Bearers will be Bob Bailey, Virgil Branson,
Van Fullerton, Vic Meyers and C.A. Wiggins. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Bishop was born December 11, 1920 in Mena, Arkansas,
to Frank and Bryla Wilson Bishop. He grew up in a number of rural
Oklahoma and Arkansas towns where his mother was a school
teacher in one room school houses. He moved to Norman from
Pawnee, Oklahoma in the mid 1930s. During World War II, Mr.
Bishop worked on the construction of the U.S. Navy Base in Norman,
Oklahoma. After the war, he worked with the Standard Oil Company
in California. He returned to Norman in 1946. Mr. Bishop started a
construction firm in the late 1940s and built houses in Norman
through the 1950s. He then became a commercial builder and from
the 1960s through the 1970s and he built a number of U.S. Post
Offices in Oklahoma and Eastern Arkansas. He retired from building
during the 1980s. Mr. Bishop was a member of the Faith Assembly
of God Church in Norman where he supervised a building expansion
project for the church in 1998 . Mr. Bishop was a member of the
Church building committee from 1987 until his death also serving
some years as chairman. He also worked for the Oklahoma City
Metro Tech. during the mid 1980s, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by his parents and brother,
Frank Bishop. Survivors include one son, William (Billy) D. Bishop
Jr. of Norman, Oklahoma; two daughters, Brenda Bishop of
Birmingham, Alabama and Lynn Woodward and husband, Paul of
Taft, California; nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

JoAnn Carolyn Carver
JoAnn entered into this world
September 1, 1940, born to Dave and Ruth
Propst Vaughan at Kings Mountain, North
Carolina and left for her heavenly home on
Monday, February 24, 2003. Services to
celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 P.M.,
Friday, February 28, 2003 at Havenbrook
Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with
Hugh English officiating. Interment will
follow at the Sunset Memorial Park
Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.
JoAnn spent most of her young life in the Anadarko and
Lawton area. After having a family, she went back to Rose State
College, getting a G.E.D. and Associates Degree. JoAnn lived and
traveled to many states but most of her time was spent in the Shawnee
and Norman area. She was employed by many of the Shawnee
restaurants, Western Electric and retired from Tinker Air Force Base
as a supervisor after thirty three years. Her spare time was spent with
her children, grandchildren and collecting clowns of which she had
over four hundred.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Brian and
a daughter, Diane. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Roberta Motes
of Fletcher, OK.; five daughters, Janie Soto and husband, Tony of
Norman, Lynda Shafer and fiancé, John Yates of OKC, Robin Wertz
of Chowchilla, CA., Christy Carver of OKC, and Traci Putman of
Norman; two grandchildren she adopted and raised, Kelly Carver and
Jerry Carver of Norman; seven grandchildren, Jon Michael Melott of
Norman, Jason Melott of OKC., Charles, Ashley and Christopher
Wertz of Winton, CA., Chelsea and Anthony Putman of Norman; two
great-grandchildren, Slade Carver of Norman, Connor Melott of
OKC; her extended family, Tony Gardner, Stephanie and Aaron
Scott, Linda Mitchell, Ashley and Richard (Bam Bam ) Chruch,
Joshua Scott and Erin Nabinger; three brothers; Don Vaughan and
wife, Katie of Novato, CA, Bill Vaughan and wife, Donna of Sparta,
MO, Johnny Vaughan and wife, Carolyn of Shawnee, OK; stepfather,
John Johnson of Santa Anna, Texas; "buddies", Millie Sawyer,
Maxine Melott and Louise Cowden; countless other relatives and
friends in Oklahoma and North Carolina.

Jessie Louada Clore
Jessie Louada Clore, 85, of Norman,
Oklahoma, died Monday, February 3, 2003
in Norman, Oklahoma. The family will
receive friends on Tuesday, February 4,
2003 between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00
P.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at
Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa,
Oklahoma with Reverend Catherine
Bennett officiating. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Clore was born January 11, 1918 in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
to Frank William and Grace Edna Cooper Fowler. She grew up in
Tulsa and graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1935. She
received her B.A. degree from the University of Tulsa. Mrs. Clore
moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1952 before returning to Tulsa in
1966. She served as a secretary for the Public School Administration
in Forth Worth, Texas and then for the Public School Administration
in Tulsa, Oklahoma for fourteen years. She married Hubert Charles
Clore in 1940, and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1989.
Mrs. Clore moved to Norman in October 1994 from Tulsa. She was
a member of First Christian Church in Tulsa and Norman, Oklahoma,
the Oklahoma Educators Association, the American Association of
Retired Persons and a former Garden Club member.
Mrs. Clore was preceded in death by her parents and husband,
Hubert. Survivors include
two sons, Lawrence Clore and wife, Martha of Houston, Texas and
Ralph Clore and wife, Nancy of Norman, Oklahoma; seven
grandchildren, Robert W. Clore, Lisa Swisher and husband, Kyle,
James Clore and wife, Lynn, Kathy Clore, Larry Clore, Katy Clore
and Mike Clore; and three great-grandsons, Jake Swisher, Benjamin
Clore and Luke Swisher.

Dr. Henry R. Dvorak
Dr. Henry R. Dvorak, 80, of Norman,
died Saturday, February 15, 2003 in Norman,
OK. A memorial service for Henry will be
held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17,
2003, at First Baptist Church, Norman with
Rev. Mike Bumgarner officiating.
Havenbrook Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
A native of Houston, Dr. Dvorak’s
parents were Frank and Frances Nemec
Dvorak. He graduated from the University of
Houston, and volunteered in the U. S. Army in 1942. While in the
service, he worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge, TN. After
the war, he attended the University of Texas, Austin, where he earned
a M. S. and Ph.D in Nuclear Physics. In 1951, he and Polly Edwards,
also a student at the University, were married. In 1953, they moved
to Fort Worth, TX, where he was employed at General Dynamics as
an Engineer and in Management. In 1977, he took early retirement
from General Dynamics, and his family moved to Norman, where he
worked with Wesson Associates, an Oil-Field Safety Consulting
Company. He was also employed at Tinker Air Force Base for 8
years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the American Physical
Society, Sigma Xi, Sigma Pi Sigma, and other professional societies.
Dr. Dvorak was an active member of the Broadway Baptist
Church in Fort Worth and First Baptist Church in Norman, where he
served as an ordained Deacon and taught an Adult Men’s Bible Class.
He was also a volunteer at the Family Life Center.
He is survived by his wife, Polly, and his children and their
families: Karen and her husband Jim Mareck, Henry and John James
of Austin, TX; David of Oklahoma City; Suzanne and her husband,
Jack Alston, Vivian and Annalee of Austin; John and his wife, Pam
of Boston, MA; Mark and his wife, Julie, Jacob, Catherine and Ethan
of Norman. He also leaves a sister, Elsie Kadera, and her husband,
George, of McKinney, TX, and many other relatives and friends. He
had a lifetime love for planes, trains and automobiles. His dry sense
of humor will be missed by all of us. He led by example, being a
kind and gentle man who cherished his family and church above all
else.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist
Church Habitat for Humanity Home Fund.

Ruth Beatrice Mahan
Ruth Beatrice Mahan, 93, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Sunday, February 2, 2003 in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. Funeral Services
will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Brian Dowd
officiating. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in
Norman, Oklahoma. Pallbearers are Clint Andis, Keith Andis, Bill
Mahan, Eugene Mahan, Brandon Mahan, Duane Johnson, Steve
Lightfoot. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral
Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Mahan was born October 26, 1909 in Mound Valley,
Kansas. She was the third of four children born to L.W. and
Josephine Johnson. She married her childhood sweetheart, Oren
Mahan on August 4, 1925. There were two children born to this
union, Eldon and Norman. She worked for J.J. Newberrys in
Parsons, Kansas for more than twenty years. After her retirement, she
and her husband moved to Norman, Oklahoma where she spent the
next several years babysitting. Mrs. Mahan was preceded in
death by her husband, parents and all her siblings. Survivors include
her children, Eldon and wife, Debbie of Piedmont, and Norma and
husband, Jim Andis of Norman, OK; eight grandchildren and
nineteen great-grandchildren. Also many other friends and relatives.

Mary Brook McDaniel
Mary Brook McDaniel, 22, of
Norman died February 15, in Oklahoma
City. A service to celebrate her life will be
held Tuesday Feb. 18th at the Havenbrook
Memorial Chapel at 7:00 pm in Norman.
Funeral service will be held at the Mallory
Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler at 2:00
pm Wednesday February 19th with Rev.
A. J. Robinson officiating.
Burial will be at the Garland Cemetery Stigler, Oklahoma
under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home. Pallbearers in
Norman will be Tom Fightmaster, Robert Fightmaster, Randy
Prince, Ron Bahner, Gerald Franklin, and Dick Watts. Pallbearers
in Stigler will be Ray Jordan, Ronnie Brigance, Henry Kates,
Kimberly Kates, Walter Kates, Marion Kates, Glenn Kates, and
Jerry Kates.
Mary Brook was born August 11, 1980 in Norman to Bud
and Lora (Kates) McDaniel. She was a 2002 graduate of Norman
North High School. Mary Brook was a very enthusiastic student
with a zest for living. She was active in Special Olympics and was
recognized as Boomer Sooner Athlete of the Year while at Norman
North High School. Mary Brook was considered a fighter to the
end. She lived for 22 years facing major obstacles due to Down's
Syndrome and Cystic Fibrosis.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Elvin and
Frieda McDaniel and Papa Charlie Kates. Survivors included
her parents of the home, Bud and Lora McDaniel; one brother,
Robert Brandon and wife, Dana of Norman; one grandmother,
Helen Kates of Stigler; aunts and uncles, Donna Kates and
husband, Robert Bonner of Oklahoma City, Nancy and Steve Self
of Sapulpa, Gary and Pat Kates of Stigler, Gay and David Sellers
of Oklahoma City, Kenneth and Gerry McDaniel of Maud, Bill
and Kay McDaniel of Flint, Texas, & Diane and Tom Fightmaster
of Houston, Texas. She is survived by two nieces, Hailey and
Brooke McDaniel and one nephew Kyle McDaniel. Also, a host
of cousins, Edie, Justin, Cathy, Caroline, Christine, Cindy, Kelly,
Ken, Lisa, Mark, Dana, Robert, Stephanie, Jamy, Kristy and Larry.
She also had numerous second cousins and very special friends.

Louise Foree McGee
Louise Foree McGee, beloved wife,
mother and grandmother, died Feb. 24,
2003 in Tulsa. A life-long Norman resident,
Louise was born in Norman on April 26,
1916. A graduate of Norman High School,
she attended the University of Oklahoma
for two years. She also served as a
caseworker for the former Department of
Public We1fare. A devoted Christian, she
met her husband, Jodie Leslie McGee, on
the steps of Norman's First Baptist Church
where seven years later they married on
March 4, 1944. Married 52 years, together they raised their two
daughters in Norman. She and her husband relocated to Tulsa in 1995
to be close to their daughters and grandchildren.
An active gardener, Louise was a charter and active member
for 50 years in Norman's Edgemere Garden Club. She was also a
member of Eastern Star. Louise loved playing bridge and over the
years, she and her husband forged many wonderful relationships
across the bridge table. Both Louise and Leslie were active, long-time
members of Norman's First Baptist Church.
Louise is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jodie Leslie
McGee, parents George, and Gertrude Foree, and brother Raymond
Foree. She is survived by her two daughters -- Nancy McGee Young
and husband, Gary, of Tulsa, and Lynda McGee Barksdale and
husband, Bill, of Okmulgee. She is also survived by her three
granddaughters, Holly Young Morris and husband, Mark, of
Spindale, N.C.; Leslee Young Stewart and husband, Jonathan, of
Tulsa; and Leah Barksdale of Norman.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the
American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Suite
4B, Staten Island, NY, 10305-1946, or a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 1
p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook, in Norman..
Immediately following the service, the family will host a reception for
relatives and friends at Legend's Restaurant, 1313 W. Lindsey,
Norman.

Jaymee Jo Oliver
Jaymee Jo Oliver, 19, of Norman,
Oklahoma, died Monday, February 17, 2003
of injuries received in an automobile
accident near Lebanon, Missouri. Funeral
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M, Thursday,
February 20, 2003 at McFarlin Memorial
United Methodist Church in Norman,
Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the
Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Pallbearers
will be Lee Weaver, Jan Russell, Byron Balden, Jack Bower, Rick
Tocco and Alain Harewood. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Jaymee was born August 7, 1983 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She moved to Norman in 1993 and attended schools here since the
4th grade. She graduated from Norman North High School in 2001,
and was attending U.C.O. Jaymee enjoyed traveling and interior
decorating. She loved music and enjoyed fine cuisine and the culinary
arts. Jaymee was engaged to be married to Chris Townsend.
Survivors include her parents, Dan and Lisa Dunson of the
home; father, Martin Kelso Oliver of Iowa; brother, Logan Dunson
of the home; maternal grandparents, AnnaBess and Steve Maly of
Edmond, OK and Bonnie and Dan Rice of Grand Forks, N.D.;
paternal grandparents, Charles and Margaret Dunson of Enid, OK and
Thelma and Duane Belknap of Wyoming, Minn.; and special aunt,
Kristi Balden of Enid, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. on
Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral Home in
Norman.

Charles P. Ross
Charles P. Ross of Norman,
Oklahoma, departed this earth on
Monday, February 10, 2003, five weeks
shy of his 93rd birthday. Funeral services
will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m.,
February 13, 2003, at Havenbrook
Funeral Home in Norman with Reverend
Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will follow
at Norman IOOF Cemetery.
Mr. Ross was born on St. Patrick's Day,
March 17, 1910, in a one-room cabin
outside of Carrollton, Mississippi, to Andrew and Florence Ross.
Charles was one of nine children. At the age of 14 he left school,
the Mississippi Delta cotton fields and hopped a freight to
California to seek a better life. On November 25, 1933 he married
Betty Westervelt.
In 1935 they moved back to Oklahoma where he went to
work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He attended the
University of Oklahoma, and in 1956 he went to work as a GS-13
supervisory electronic engineer for the Department of Air Force,
Southern Communication Area at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring
in 1974.
In 1988 his beloved wife, Betty preceded him in death.
Also preceding him were his parents, four brothers and three
sisters.
Charles is survived by two sons, Lanny and his wife, Janet
of Clinton, Oklahoma and John and his wife, Ann of Norman,
Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Karie Ross Dombrowski and
husband, Dave of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Jeffrey Ross and
wife, Amy of Clinton, Oklahoma, Lisa Ross Grobmyer and
husband, Jimmy of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jennifer Ross Taylor
and husband, Marc of Mansfield, Texas and Lindsay Ross Lee and
husband, Ian of Mansfield, Texas; and his nine great
grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Bessie Pond of West
Palm Beach, Florida; a sister-in-law, Nan Westervelt of Norman,
Oklahoma and a Special Friend, Joy Massey of Norman,
Oklahoma. .

Magdalen Elizabeth Schaefer
Magdalen Elizabeth Schaefer, 75, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Friday, February
14, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. A Vigil
will be held Monday, February 17, 2003, at
7:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church,
with Deacon Jeff Willard officiating. Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30
a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at St.
Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Edward
Menasco officiating. Interment will follow
at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be George Jansing, Jon Jansing, Benny Jansing,
Larry Morris, Lynn Morris and Gene Alexander. Honorary
pallbearers will be George Schaefer and Greg Jansing. Services are
under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman,
Oklahoma.
Mrs. Schaefer was born September 28, 1927 in Norman, OK,
to Ben D. and Lena Frances Hoffelder Jansing. She married Donovan
John Schaefer in Norman on April 11, 1953. She worked as a medical
secretary for Dr. Fred C. Buffington, Dr. Hal Belnap, Dr. Jerry Lue,
Dr. J. Kin Pirtle and Dr. Gary Livingston. She enjoyed needlepoint,
sewing and fishing. They went to Ontario, Canada each year to fish.
She also enjoyed her pet dog, Maxwell. Mrs. Schaefer was a member
of the Golden Agers Group at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She lived
in Norman all her life.
Mrs. Schaefer was preceded in death by her parents, Ben D.
and Lena Frances Hoffelder Jansing; sister, Clara Ann Jansing
Russell; brother, Earl; and Juanita Jansing. Survivors include her
husband, Donovan, of the home, a son, Alan D. Schaefer and wife,
Kimberly D., of Norman, OK; a sister, Helen C. Jansing Morris and
husband, Lonnie, of Norman; a brother, Bernard D. Jansing and wife,
Frances, of Norman; and a brother-in-law, James L. Russell of
Norman.

Loreta Ann Waller
Loreta Ann Waller, 86, of Norman,
Oklahoma died Friday, February 21, 2003
in Norman. Funeral Services will be held
at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2003
at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist
Church in Norman, Oklahoma with
Reverend Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will
follow at the Nowata Memorial Cemetery
in Nowata, Oklahoma. The family will be
available to welcome family and friends
from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday evening, February 24, 2003
at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be John Davis and
James Moore and grandsons, Jonathan Stapp, Josh Moore, Jeremy
Davis and William Waller. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mrs. Waller was born July 18, 1916 to H. J. and LuCreta Hill
Deardorff in Jasper, Missouri. In 1926, the family moved to the
Nowata area of Oklahoma, where Loreta attended school. She
graduated from high school in 1936 and completed her college
education at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Loreta married William A. Waller on December 29, 1939 in
Claremore, Oklahoma. She started her teaching career in Nowata and
along with her husband, Bill, taught at a number of schools
throughout the state. She moved to Norman in 1960 from Buffalo
Valley, Oklahoma. In 1960, Loreta began teaching first grade at John
Adams Elementary School in Norman. She continued to start first
graders on the road to knowledge in the same classroom for 24 years,
retiring in 1984, with a total of 42 years in teaching. She was a
lifelong Methodist, a proud fifty year member of Eastern Star and was
active in the teaching sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota.
Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by her husband, William

husband, John, of Norman; step-daughter, Madella White and her
husband, David, of Sullivan, Missouri; grandchildren: Shelley Ivey,
Rebecca and Josh Moore; Jonathan Stapp, Sarah and Jeremy Davis;
Courtney, Lindsey, William, Ashley, Hayley and Kelsey Waller;
great-grandchildren: Shawney and Brandon Ivey; Paige Moore and Braedon Edwards.
