Frances Elizabeth Walker, 57, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Monday, June 14,
2004 in Norman, Oklahoma. Memorial
Services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday,
June 17, 2004 at McFarlin Memorial United
Methodist Church, 419 S. University Blvd in
Norman, Oklahoma with Reverend Trevor
Smith officiating. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Ms. Walker was born June 6, 1947, in Carlsbad, California,
to Hugh and Margaret (Donnelly) Walker. She graduated from Lake
Elsinor High School in California in 1965. She moved to Bartlesville,
Oklahoma in 1973. Frances attended the Tri-County Vo-Tech in
Bartlesville, graduating from the nursing program there. She moved
to Estes Park, Colorado and worked as a nurse at the Timberline
Medical facility from 1989 to 1999. She moved to Norman,
Oklahoma in 1999 and worked in Dr. Carol Anderson’s Medical
office in Norman until her death. Frances was a member of the Red
Hat Society and was a member of McFarlin Memorial United
Methodist Church in Norman.
Ms. Walker was preceded in death by parents. Survivors
include three daughters, Caryn Ross and husband, Jack, of Norman,
Sunday Godfrey and husband, Bruce, of Baltimore, MD, and Molly
Lloyd and husband, Ron, of Nellis A.F.B., Las Vegas, NV.; and five
grandchildren; Jackson Ross of Norman, MollyAnne Lloyd of Nellis
A.F.B, Las Vegas, NV, Caytie Ross of Norman, Samuel Godfrey of
Baltimore, MD and Madison Lloyd of Nellis A.F.B., Las Vegas, NV.

Milton Zeni
Milton Zeni, 78, of Norman, Oklahoma,
died Friday, June 18, 2004 in Norman,
Oklahoma. Memorial Services will be held at
11:00 A.M., Monday, June 21, 2004 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home with Chaplain Harry
Smith officiating. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Zeni was born January 29,1926 in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Guido P. and Maria
Valentonetti Zeni. He married Betty Lou Kelm
on May 22, 1948, in Madison, Wisconsin. Milton graduated college
with a B.S. Degree in Geology at the University of Wisconsin.
Milton and Betty lived in Wisconsin, Nevada, Utah, California,
Oklahoma, and Colorado. In 1977, Milton and Betty returned to
Oklahoma, first moving to Edmond and then to Norman in 1994, to
be near their daughters. Milton and Betty were able to travel
extensively around the world before Milton was diagnosed with
Alzheimer’s Disease and Betty’s health began to fail. He loved
Oklahoma and was an avid O.U. sports fan.
Mr. Zeni was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Betty
Lou Zeni, on January 17, 2004. Survivors include his son, Thomas
Zeni and his wife, Lauris, of Williamsburg, Virginia; two daughters,
Laurie Wynn and Susan Pickett of Norman; five grandchildren, JR
Stalcup and wife, Kimberly, of Naples, Florida, Brenden Zeni, of
Williamsburg, Virginia, Ashley Zeni, of College Station, Texas, and
Justin and Brooke Pickett, of Norman
In lieu of flowers, the families suggest donations be made to
either the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Milton, or the
American Heart Association.
Doris Loraine Hayes
Doris Loraine Hayes, 73, of Norman, Oklahoma died Friday,
March 28, 2003 in Norman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30
a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home
Chapel with Reverend Lavonn Brown officiating. Interment
will
follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The
family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday,
March 31, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Services are under
the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mrs. Hayes was born December 13, 1929, in Durant,
Oklahoma to Pate and Leona Witt Lifsey. She graduated from
Chickasha High School in 1947. She came to Norman in 1967 from
Venezuela. She attended Moore-Norman Vo-Tech. and later
graduated from Rose State College as a Registered Nurse. Doris
worked at Norman Regional Hospital in C. C. U. as a RN for eighteen
years. After retirement, she worked at the Postal Training Center as
a health nurse for four years. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Norman and the Norman Buckaroos Square Dance Club.
Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Jack
Austin Hayes, in December of 1967 and son Jack, Jr. She is survived
by two daughters, Vicki Hallman, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and
Becky Hazzard and husband, Jay, of Houston, Texas; three
grandchildren, Kendal Hallman, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jenna
Hazzard and James Hazzard, both of Houston, Texas and cousin,
Truman Wilkerson, of Norman, Oklahoma.
Hildreth Roberts
Hildreth Roberts, 84, died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at IOOF Cemetery in Norman, with Andrew Tevington officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Roberts was born in Tunis, Missouri, on March 19, 1919, to Ray John and Cora Ellen Griffith. She grew up around the oilfields where her father worked.
Mrs. Roberts graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City, and studied physical education at Harden-Simmons in Weatherford, Texas and at the University of Oklahoma. Hildreth met the love of her life, Arthur D. "Ug" Roberts, in high school and they were married March 21, 1942. They lived most of their married life and raised their family in Norman. Her joy in life and her top priority was always her family.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Pebble Haney; and her husband. Survivors include her sons, Arthur D "Butch" Roberts, Jr. and wife, Lynda, Michael Ray Roberts and wife, Charlie, all of Norman and Richard Dale Roberts and wife, Vicki, and Ray John Roberts, of Oklahoma City; daughters, Jo Ann Hart and husband, Dean, of Pauls Valley and Cindy Jo Adams and husband, Craig of Norman, grandchildren, Butch Roberts and wife, Rachelle, Todd Roberts and wife, Stephanie, and Nikki Roberts, all of Norman and Richie Roberts , of Tulsa; great grandchildren, Derek Adams, Reid Roberts, Rylee Roberts, and Avery Roberts all of Norman and Desiree Budd, of Moore.
CECILE MAE BUCKLEY
Cecile Mae Buckley, age 98, died May 22, 2003 in Norman Regional Hospital. She had been a resident of Grace Living Center for almost four years. She was born October 1, 1904, in Ware, Union County, Illinois. She was the third child born to W. W. Earnhart and Elizabeth Wildy Earnhart.
Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, May 26, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the Norman I.O.O.F Cemetery with Rev. James Ehrlich of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
On January 14, 1926, she married Claude E. Buckley in the Memorial House in Doniphan, Ripley County, Missouri. They were married by J. P. Campbell. In the early years of their marriage, they resided in Ripley County on a farm homesteaded, several years before the Civil War, by Mr. Buckley's great-grandfather, Samuel Brightwell. Their five children were all born in Ripley County and in the fall of 1934 they moved to Pittsburg County, Oklahoma and in 1943, they moved to Atoka County, Oklahoma, where all their children graduated from high school. They were engaged in farming and ranching and in 1957, they sold over a section of land to Oklahoma City to be used in construction of a reservoir on North Boggy Creek. It is now known as the Atoka Lake and supplies water to Oklahoma City. After selling their land to Oklahoma City they moved to Farris, Oklahoma where one of their daughters lived. They moved to Norman. Oklahoma in 1975.
Mrs. Buckley enjoyed growing flowers and always setting a full table of food for the family and visitors. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman.
Mrs. Buckley was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, a son-in. law, Ben F. Clark; her parents; I brother, William Earnhart, and 2 sisters, Emma Bates and Alice Gamblin. Survivors include one son, James W. Buckley and wife, Mary, of Norman; four daughters, Leatrice Clark of Norman, Margaret McClendon and husband, Francis, of Farris, Oklahoma; Jessie Doerr and husband, James, of Wichita, Kansas and Alice Hooker and her husband, Beaty, of Norman; eleven grandchildren: B. Frank Clark of Oklahoma City; Claudia Busse of Norman; Linda Brauner, of Canadian, Texas; James W. Buckley, II of Grapevine, Texas; Tina Chumbley of Marlow, Oklahoma, Vicki McClendon of Los Angeles, California; Kirk McClendon of Farris, Oklahoma; Karen Doerr of Wichita, Kansas, Ed Doerr of Shenandoah, Iowa, Billy Hooker of Springdale, Arkansas; Stephanie Keesee of Lexington, Oklahoma; fifteen great-grandchildren: Lydia Busse, Jordan Busse, Lacey Busse, Brandi Wagner, Amber Laurent, Matthew Laurent, Britten Chumbley, Jennifer Chumbley, Kiel McClendon, Jacob Doerr, Braden Doerr, Dustin Hooker, Colton Hooker, Lorra Hooker, Derek Keesee; and two great-great grandchildren: twins Dylan and Nicholas Wagner.
The Honorable Alan J. Couch
Judge Alan Jay Couch, 67, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Monday, May 19, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma from complications of a bacterial infection and stroke. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, May 22, 2003 at First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster, Norman, Oklahoma, with the Reverend David Spain officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Dianne Kovacs Peters, minister of St. Stephens United Methodist Church, Norman. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Judge Couch was born on October 17th, 1935 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Robert Ray and Billie Mae Bradshaw Couch. He grew up in Bristow, Oklahoma and graduated from Bristow High School. He graduated from Phillips University before completing his studies at the University of Oklahoma School of Law and Oklahoma City University School of Law. Judge Couch was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Cleveland County Bar Association and served as Associate District Judge of Cleveland County from 1972 until his death.
He was chairman of the original Oklahoma Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Oversight Committee for several years and taught and designed programs for judges, attorneys, and court workers across Oklahoma and the United States. Judge Couch previously served on the board of trustees for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He established and assisted in writing legislation to create the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth. He received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Liberty Bell Award from the Oklahoma Bar Association for outstanding contributions to the Administration of Justice. He was one of four founders of the Norman Alcohol and Information Center. He also founded Oklahoma’s first Court Appointed Special Advocate program which protects alleged abused and neglected children and the nation’s first Divorce Visitation Arbitration program which assists families of divorce.
Judge Couch served in the National Guard. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and past President of the Norman Rotary Club.
The Couch family were recipients of the first Norman Family of the Year Award in 1978. Judge Couch served as Santa for the residents of the Phil Smalley Children’s Center since 1980. In 1996 he received the Norman Human Rights Award.
Judge Couch was a proud artist, boasting with good-humor to be more accomplished than his sister, also an artist. He enjoyed working with large canvasses and particularly in the mediums of oils and acrylics.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Norman.
Judge Couch is preceded in death by this parents. Survivors include his daughter, Tiffany Couch and her mother, Donna of Norman, OK; a sister, Sharon Couch of Bixby, OK; and a granddog Nick.

John Philip (Phil) Edwards, 75,

Mr. Edwards was born March 22, 1928, in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, to Ora Russell and Audrey Rose (Stansbury) Edwards. He
graduated from Classen High School and attended the University of
Oklahoma. He married Ramona Ruth Keen on June 25, 1950, in
Sapulpa, Oklahoma, at the Linden Street Christian Church. They
lived in Oklahoma City for two years before moving to McAlester,
Oklahoma. They moved to Norman in 1955. Mr. Edwards managed
Campus Art Supply on Campus Corner for twenty-three years before
retiring in June 1995. He also held management positions at
Firestone, Sharpes, The Bootery, and Varsity Book Shop. Mr.
Edwards was an active member of Kiwanis for fifty years, serving as
president in 1988-89. He was an active member of the First Baptist
Church in Norman. He enjoyed spending time with family,
photography and gardening. He also enjoyed singing in church choirs
throughout the years.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors
include his wife, Ramona; three sons, John P. Edwards Jr. and wife,
Teri, of North Richland Hills, TX; Don R. Edwards and wife, Pam,
of Matthews, N.C.; and Dave L. Edwards and wife, Melissa, of
Norman, OK; sister, Ruth Cross of Woodward, OK; eight
grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Gordon Russell Flygare, Colonel,
USAF (ret), 95, of Norman, Oklahoma,
died Sunday, November 30, 2003 in
Norman, Oklahoma. Memorial Services

December 12, 2003 at St. Mark The
Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman,
Oklahoma with Reverend Thomas J.
Boyer officiating. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman, Oklahoma.
Gordon was born on January 25, 1906 in LaSalle, Minnesota,
to Frank Oscar and Ebba Marie Applequist Flygare. He graduated
from Sherburn High School in Sherburn, Minnesota
Gordon was raised on his parents farm in southern Minnesota and
graduated from Sherburn High School in 1922. While always having
a love for the traditional farm of the Midwest, Gordon also showed
a talent for mechanical things. He spent the next ten years working
with automobiles and later airplanes.
Colonel Flygare enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1932 in
the 109th Observation Squadron. Besides his military duties, Gordon
and a partner found time and money to buy a private plane. This
aircraft was a key component of his courtship of Dorothy O’Neill,
culminating in their marriage in 1937.
Before WWII, Gordon and Dorothy had 2 children, Gordon in 1938
and Helen in 1942. During WWII he served with the 107th Tactical
Reconnaissance Squadron, formerly a part of the Michigan National
Guard, in England, France and Germany.
Returning to Minnesota after the war, Gordon served with the Air
National Guard until activated in 1952. During the Korean Conflict,
he served as Director of Materiel for the 3rd Bomb Wing.
Gordon, now a Lieutenant Colonel, remained on active duty with the
Air Force. Following a assignment with the Oklahoma City Air
Material Area at Tinker AFB, he was stationed in Saigon, South Viet
Nam for the year of 1961.
His military decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze
Star.
Colonel Flygare retired from active duty in 1964 and resided in Cocoa
Beach, FL until 1990. Residing in Norman since 1990, he enjoyed
beekeeping and gardening, loves that he had acquired as in his youth.
He particularly enjoyed keeping bees, in Florida and after moving to
Norman. Finally, a few years ago, failing eyesight in his mid nineties
made him sell his beloved hives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy O’Neill,
and a brother, Alden W. Flygare. He is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, Gordon and Ann Flygare or Norman and a daughter
and son-in-law, Frank and Helen Moran, of Santa Fe, NM. Also
surviving is a sister, Ferne Nelson and a brother Kenneth Flygare of
Minnesota.
Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer Flygare and Karen Voyles
of Oklahoma, Peggy Salas, Tom Moran of Texas, and Dorothy
Cassetta of Florida and 4 great-grandsons.
Jredia Wilson Orr
Jredia Wilson Orr, 89, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday,
November 4, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Mrs. Orr was born
October 20, 1914 in Reform, Mississippi, to Fred Gunter and
Margaret Almedia (Smith) Wilson. She was a long time resident of
Marks, Mississippi and was employed as a clerical assistant to the
Superintendent of Education in Quitman County, Mississippi for
twelve years. Jredia married Clifton Linwood Orr on February 14,
1948 in Reno, Nevada. After their marriage, they established a home
in Memphis, Tennessee where they lived until moving to Norman,
Oklahoma in 1974. She lived at the Rambling Oaks Assisted Living
Center for the last three years. Jredia was a member of McFarlin
Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma
Mrs. Orr was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Clifton in 1998 and one brother and one sister. Survivors include son,
James C. Orr and wife, Donna L. of Orlando, Fl and daughter, Reda
Wilson Jarvis and husband, Dr. Robert of Norman; grandchildren, Dr.
J. Matthew and wife, Stephanie of Macon, GA, Staff Sgt. Brian C.
Orr of Destin, FL, Dr. Nicole Jarvis of Norman, OK and Robert L.
Jarvis Jr and wife, Laura of Edmond, OK; and great-grandchildren,

Colonel Samuel Houston Roane
Samuel Houston Roane of
Norman, Oklahoma, aged 67, died
Wednesday November 12, 2003 at home,
he had suffered a lengthy illness prior to
his death. Reverend David Jones of
Oklahoma City will officiate the services
on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at
10:00 a.m. at the Havenbrook Funeral
Home Chapel in Norman. Interment
will
follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in
Norman, Oklahoma.
A native of Norman, Roane was born on June 6, 1936 to
Alta Mae and Walter Houston Roane. Sam attended elementary
and high school in the city of Norman. He graduated from
Oklahoma State University, receiving a B. S. in Geology in 1960.
Sam was a Captain for Northwest Airlines, Inc. until his
retirement in 1996. Sam was also a Lt. Col. in the United States
Air Force Reserve with the 934th Tactical Air Command, flying
C-130's, until his retirement in 1994. Sam and Marjorie attended
Bethel Baptist Church in Norman for the past few years.
Sam was preceded in death by his young brother, Marvin
Dickey Roane, and his parents, Alta Mae Boyd and Walter
Houston Roane. He is survived by his wife of the home, Marjorie
Ama Black Roane, and his son, Samuel Houston Roane, Jr., who
resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and one grandchild, Iris
Seichrist-Roane. He also leaves behind his sister and her husband,
Nina and Gerald Spotts, of Norman, his younger brother and his
wife, Dr. and Mrs. James B. Roane, of Norman, his brother-in-law
and his wife, Amos E. Black, III and Kay, and his sister-in-law,
Mary E. Black Osborn of Ponca City, nieces, Cheryl Ponder,
Deborah Spotts-Kalkhan Ronda Morgan, Stephanie Roane, and
Christy Ponder and nephews, Robert Roane, Stephen Roane,
Gerald D. Spotts, David Gene Johnson and Timothy Earl Johnson,
Joshua Black, Amos E. Black, IV, Great Nephews Levi Johnson,
Gabriel Johnson, Daniel Morgan, Jason Ponder, Cameron Spotts-
Kalkhan and Jarrett Spotts-Rames. Sam leaves a host of friends
who loved him and will miss him very much.
Sam and his wife resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota for
thirty-three years before moving back to Norman, Oklahoma in
2000. Sam loved flying both commercial and private planes and
spending time at his cabin and island in Ontario, Canada.

Dustin Boyd Thomas
Dustin Boyd Thomas, 19, formerly of Norman died Thursday,
November 13, 2003. Dustin was born December 20th, 1983 in Norman
to Gene Boyd Thomas and Trudy (Thomas) Davison. He attended
Norman Public Schools and was a 2001 Graduate of Norman High. He
was in the Gifted and Talented Program throughout his school years and
graduated early as a junior. Following graduation he attended the
University of Oklahoma before relocating to Kansas City, Missouri. He
recently returned and was living in Oklahoma City. Dustin was a member
of Bethel Baptist Church of Norman where he accepted Christ at the age
of seven. Growing up he was active in little league baseball and was
invited to play in the Little League World Series. At age 13 he went on a
mission trip to Romania with his grandfather. In highschool he was a
member of the chess team, sang in the choir and participated in track as
a pole-vaulter. He was an avid dirtbike rider and spent many weekends
riding motocross with his dad and good friends. He had a passion for
Mustangs and would talk your ear off about them if you would let him.
Dustin was an incredible young man and was loved by all who knew him.
He will live forever in our hearts.
Dustin is survived by his father, Gene Thomas of Norman; mother
Trudy Thomas Davison of Norman; a brother, Trevor Davison of
Norman; his paternal grandparents, Jimmie and Gwen Thomas of
Norman; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Phyllis Furr of Norman;
Great Grandmother, Oleta Furr of Noble; Aunts and Uncles, Bill and
Bonnie Thomas of Findlay, Ohio; Jay and Cindy Thomas of Oklahoma
City; Allan and Carolyn Smith of Japan; Shawn and TaRena Furr and
family of Lexington; cousins, Marc and Ashley Thomas of Findlay, Ohio;

Hilda A. Dumler
Hilda A. Dumler, 89, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday,
November 6, 2003 while a resident of Noble Health Care Center.
Hilda A. Dumler was born in Okeene, Oklahoma on November 19,
1913 to Louis and Martha Vogt. She was a graduate of Okeene High
School. She was married to Herman Dumler in 1932 and to this union
was born two children, a daughter, Shirley, and a son, Don. She and
Herman lived in Okeene, Altus and Oklahoma City before moving to
Norman in 1994, where they lived until moving into Noble Health
Care Center in 2002.
She was a homemaker, expert seamstress and especially loved
cooking, all of which greatly benefitted her children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Zion Baptist
Church of Okeene, First Baptist of Altus, Trinity Baptist of Oklahoma
City and First Baptist of Norman, serving in the choir, women's
missionary group and as a Sunday School teacher.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, and four
brothers and three sisters, and is survived by her daughter, Shirley and
husband Don Geis of Norman; son, Don Dumler of New York City;
sister, Estella Wehrenberg of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren, Ken
Geis and wife, Lisa of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Scott Geis and wife,
Dee of DePere, Wisconsin, Laura Ackerman and husband Paul of
Alamo, California and Mark Geis and wife Laurie of Alexandria,
Virginia; and six great-grandchildren.
