Loyce Kort Garon, 76, of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Louisville, passed away January 15, 2007.
Mrs. Garon overcame a life long battle with polio to graduate from Douglas College at Rutger's University in New Brunswick, NJ to become a speech therapist.She was also a hospice volunteer and patient advocate at Menorah Manor where she resided for the past fifteen years.
Loyce was the loving wife of Dr. Max Garon.
She leaves behind her sisters Doris Tishler, Roselee Boron and her husband Dr. Edward Boron, as well as her brother, Louis Kort.Loyce was a spectacular aunt to 13 nieces and nephews and 8 grand nieces and grand nephews.She will be missed by her many friends and lives that she touched with love.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, January 18 at the funeral home with burial in The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway.Visitation will begin after 12:30 pm Thursday.

Lois Stern,82, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 15, at Baptist East Hospital as a result of heart failure.
She was a native of Louisville, the daughter of Lillian (Moseson) and Joseph Levens and a graduate of Louisville Girls High School.
Lois worked for many years for Bank of Louisville, beginning as a teller and retiring as a vice-president.She was also a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Louisville Chapter and The Temple.
Kahlman 'Kal' Stern, her husband of 59 years, survives her, along with her three children, Bobbi (Mark) Goldman, Doug (Jennifer Clements) and Craig; five grandchildren; and her sister, Rose Rita (Jerome) Wurmser, of Lexington.
The funeral will be at 3:30 pm, Thursday, January 18, at the funeral home, with burial in The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin after 2:30 pm.

Ben B. Weitz, 97, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Jefferson Manor Nursing Home.
He was the former owner of Bennets Women's Clothing stores in Louisville and throughout Kentucky. He was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun and its board of directors, as well as a board member of Four Courts Senior Center and was a longtime former member of Standard Country Club. In addition, he was an active member of numerous business organizations.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Fannie, of 69 years; four children, Sandra Tasman, Sharon (Dr. Mark) Sexter, Edwin (Sara) Weitz and Lynne (Dr. Burt) Waxman; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2007, at 1:00pm, at Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway.

Leila Doris Natkin Ginsburg, passed peacefully on January 4, 2007, at Jefferson Manor Nursing Home at the age of 76.
A member of both Keneseth Israel and Adath Jeshurun congregations before succumbing to her illness, she was actively involved in the community, NCJW, the synagogue sisterhood and was a member of the Louisville Board of Realtors.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, David and Yetta Natkin; daughters, Miriam and Melanie; and her granddaughter, Cari Eileen Kleinman.
She is survived by Irvin Ginsburg; her brother, Dr. Gerald Natkin (Yudit) of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Dr. Leslie Rowland (Dr. Michael); son, Edward Ginsburg (Jill) of Louisville; daughter, Sharon Kleinman (Michael) of Carmel, IN; son, Terry Ginsburg (Vickie) of Dayton, OH; 8 grandchildren; and one great grandson.
There will be a private graveside service followed by interment
at Keneseth Israel Cemetery.
The family invites friends to the home of Drs. Leslie and Michael Rowland from 2:30 PM until 5 PM on Sunday, January 7, for a minyan service and visitation.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Jefferson Manor as well as Hospice of Louisville for the loving care they provided, and asks that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Hospice of Louisville or to the Cari Kleinman Fund in care of Congregation Adath Jeshurun.

Edwin B. Kaplin, 79, passed away January 1, 2007, at Baptist Hospital East. Eddie was born March 17, 1927.
Eddie was the owner of Kaplin Drugs at 1101 Dixie Highway. He was currently employed as a Pharmacist with The Medicine Shoppe in Shepherdsville. He graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Pharmacy. Eddie served as a naval veteran of World War II, and was a lifelong member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun synagogue.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Florence Kaplin.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon; his three daughters Robin Hedderich (Tom), Shellye Kaplin, and Leslye Dicken (Dennis); his five grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Dubinsky, Josh Hedderich, Lauren Dicken and Adam Dicken; one great grandchild, Nathan Dubinsky; and his sister, Harriet Perellis.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 3, at 11:30 AM with visitation beginning after 10:30 AM, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, 2926 Preston Highway.

Richard D. Shapero 63, was born June 11, 1943, and died at his home Sunday, December 31, 2006.
Richard was an attorney and Pin Ball Wizard. Richard's U.S. Supreme Court Case, Shapero vs. Kentucky Bar Association established laws regarding lawyer advertising in the United States.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Annie Rose and Robin; his beloved companion, Jodie Riebel; three brothers, Larry (Karen), Kenny (Chloe) and David (Francoise); four nieces and four nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at The Temple, 5101 U.S. Hwy 42.

Jerome W. Klein "Jimmie", 85, of Louisville, passed away Sunday evening, December 31, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Klein was a graduate of Louisville Male High School, attended The University of Michigan and graduated from the University of Louisville. He served in the Army Air Force with the 1083rd Signal Service Group as a Cryptographer in India and Burma during World War II. He received the AsiaticPacific Ribbon with 2 Combat Zone Stars.
He was a retired real estate developer and was a member of The Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mollie Klein and sister, Shirley Klein Sotsky.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Joan Klein; twin daughters, Cathy Schuster (J. Lon) and Vicki Davis (David); son, Randal Klein (Bobbi) of Farmington, UT; grandchildren, Bryce Schuster (Julie), Corey Schuster (Jacki) of Washington, DC, and Michael Davis of New York, NY.

Paula Tarbis, died Monday morning at her residence.
She was a member of Anshei Sfard Congregation and for 22 years, Paula was a devoted member of the Jewish Community Center staff.
She was a wonderful and kind person who loved animals and will be missed by all who knew her.
Paula is survived by her son, Mark Tarbis (Angela); a daughter, Laurel Tarbis; a sister, Barbara Russman; and her grandson, Noah Alexander Tarbis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the funeral home, with burial in Anshei Sfard Cemetery, 721 Locust Lane. Visitation will begin after 1:30 PM Tuesday.

Maury Kort, 83, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Baptist Hospital East.
He was the owner of Maury's Florescent and Appliance Company from 1946 until he retired in 1986. He attended Washington and Lee University where he was a cheerleader. He graduated from University of Louisville. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of The Temple and former member of the Board of Directors of the Standard Country Club.Maury was a scratch golfer and an avid boater and fisherman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen M. Kort; children, Mindy K. Jaffe (Irvin), Paula K. Kommor (Steve) and Colonel Jeff W. Katz (Marlene) of Darry, New Hampshire; stepdaughter, Karen L. Raff (Gil) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; stepson, Raymond Laib; sister, Pauline Mickler of Coral Gables, Florida; grandchildren, Rella Faye and Jamie K. Jaffe, Erin R. Kommor, Jonathon R. and Matthew J. He was the owner of the old S. L. Stiebel Company and Kentucky Coin Machine Distributors until his retirement. He was a member of The Temple and a former member of the Jewish Community Center and Standard Country Club. He was an Army veteran and a member of St. George Masonic Lodge #239 F & AM.
He is survived by a son, Jay (Karen) Waldman; daughter, Shelley Samuels of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Pauline Schwartz, 101, died Tuesday evening at Jefferson Manor. Mrs. Schwartz was a former member on Anshei Sfard Congregation.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruby Zakem of Louisville and Sirella Tresser of Davis, California; grandchildren, Marc Schwartz (Ann), Alan Tresser (Kathlene) of California, Karen Kahn (Dan) of Ashland, Oregon, Irene Tresser (Chris Brown) of Alaska, and Ben Tresser (Sari) of California; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen Blieden, 93, formerly Helen Brown, died Monday, December 18, 2006 at Jefferson Manor.
She was a super seamstress who made clothes to go in the windows of the old Stewart's Dept. Store. She started the Shopping Cart at Jewish Hospital, was a member of The Temple and was in charge of the Oneg Shabbats at The Temple for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her twin brother, Harold and six other siblings.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Barbara Goldberg; son-in-law, Eddie Goldberg; three grandchildren, Craig Goldberg of Boca Raton, FL, Brian Goldberg (Deborah), Marla Ambrose (Karl) of Gainesville, FL; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm Wednesday, December 20 (today), at the funeral home, with burial in The Temple Cemetery, 2716 Preston Highway. Visitation will begin after 3pm Wednesday.

Nathan "N. C." Frankel, 92, died Saturday, December 16, 2006, while attending festivities at The Scottish Rite Temple in Louisville.
N. C., who would have been 93 on Wednesday, December 20, was born in 1913. He was the son of Sarah and Leon Frankel and the late brother of Jean Frankel Traub.N. C., throughout his life, worked for the Frankel Coal Company and Churchill Downs Corporation.
He was a member of St. George Masonic Lodge, was also Past Master of the George Washington Lodge and a devoted member of Scottish Rite.He was a member of St. John's Day League, Scottish Rite, Kosair Temple, The Temple and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served in the Army Air Corp from 1941- 1945 in the Pacific Theater.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ada Ruth Kessel Frankel and a niece, Sally Lee Lewin.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Carolyn Kessel Russman; a step-son, Murrel Kessel; his nephews, David (Maria) andCharles (Mary) Traub; two great nephews, Danny and Aaron Traub; two great-nieces, Carolyn Weiss and Alice Lewin; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and his companion, Norma Leonhart.

Nathan Yesowitch, of Deland, Florida, died Friday, December 1, 2006, following a sudden illness.
He was a student at the Temple Beth-El Pre-school in Ormond Beach. He was a loving child who enjoyed trips with his family and swimming in the warm Florida waters.
He is survived by:his brother, Asher Yesowitch; parents, Brian and Martha Yesowitch; grandparents, Bill and Judy Yesowitch, of Louisville and Glenn and Pam Link of Augusta,Georgia; and great-grandparents, Henny Witzer of Louisville, Martha Pope of Cherryville, North Carolina and Shirley Yesowitch of Fresh Meadows, New York.

Melvin Perlman, PhD, 81, died Friday, November 17, 2006.
He was a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a PhD in psychology, former chief of psychology at Illinois State Psychiatric Institute and staff psychologist at Veteran Administration Hospital in Downey, Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II, and beloved husband of the late Miriam (Goodman) Perlman.
He was the cherished father of Sheri Weyhing (Jeff); loving "gampa" of Brandon and Krista; dear brother of Eddie (the late Elka) and the late Shirley (Ernie) Jacob; fond uncle; and friend to many.
Dr. Perlman was laid to rest November 20, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois next to his wife of 51 years. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, December 3, 2006 (today) at Herman Meyer & Son, in celebration of his distinguished life and career.

Leon J. Feitelson, 94, died Monday evening at Jefferson Place.
He was a WWII Navy veteran and a member of The Temple.For more than 30 years, Leon owned the West End Supermarket. After retiring, Leon moved to Clearwater, FL, where he lived for 28 years.
His wives, Betty and Mary Feitelson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his daughter, Maxine Bizer (Dr. Jerry); son, Dr. Philip Feitelson (Anne); grandchildren, Dr. Emori Bizer (Adam Brickler), Meredith Bizer, Gregory Feitelson (Shan), Dr. Anna Feitelson (Dr. Terry McCurry) and Dr. Jeremy Feitelson (Amy Landwehr); 5 great grandchildren; and his caregivers, Deena Nelson, Kristi James, Tina Hardin and Portia Jackson.

Dan (Dino) Glattstein, age 79, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 1:30 a.m.
He was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun and the Jewish Community Center.
A Holocaust survivor, Dan knew no bitterness but blessed the lives of his innumerable friends with his understanding, humor, compassion and ability to live life to its fullest. He enriched the lives of all who were privileged to know him.
He is survived by:his wife, Gila; his son Uri (Marilyn); and grandchildren, David and Emily Glattstein.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roni.
